When I lived in the East Village, I'd come to this coffee shop almost everyday. I'd come for a great coffee to go, for a coffee date with a friend, to read my book on the bench that's basically outside, or to do work on my laptop all day. There is something about this coffee shop that just makes me feel so good to spend time in. Maybe it's the adorable ambience, the minimalist decor, the not-too-loud and always great music, or of course the awesome coffee. My only complaint is that I wish there was more seating! But even with the few seats, I've never had trouble getting one. Now that I don't live in the East Village anymore I don't get to come by as often, but I still try to go out of my way to get there whenever I can :) read more

Awesome find! Super cute cafe with great coffee, served in mugs if you order "for here", which is always a homie touch. I came here to study and found the cafe to be a nice study/work environment. There isn't a ton of seating, but if you can snag a seat, it's a great spot. They play jazz over the speakers, which sets the mood perfectly for an east village cafe. Another huge plus is their drip coffee is only $2.00!! That's cheaper than the commercial chains for coffee (Dunkin, Starbucks, etc.) A great find, would highly recommend a stop in! read more

Best ristretto in NYC, no joke. You like Abraço? Avoid the crowds and walk 1 block down to this place. You can actually sit down! Inside! Seriously, you can count the number of drops of espresso in the ristretto. Awesome. These guys are on another level. No run of the mill Marzocco with red lettering. They got that big bad monster mother with yellow lettering. You can taste the difference. Very new so check it out before its get overcrowded. Huge big windows, benches outside and great wood furniture if you want to chill out a bit. If this place doesn't become a hit, it just confirms New Yorkers have still not evolved beyond Starbucks pumpkin lattes. Seriously man. Try some real coffee. read more

LOVE THEIR AMERICANO!! Location: East village, I am here exploring you, starting from coffee shops. Elsewhere espresso is a great traditional coffee shop. Not fancy like coffee project, not commercial like beans, Elsewhere espresso is just being a legit place for a coffee break. They have wifi inside, and some tables for people to sit and chat and simply drink good coffee. they also offer pastries for customers to have a quick bite. Why not! Coffee: love their americano, very strong, very delicious, very wanna try twice in a day. Service: the girl is definily moaning against Monday since she's not smiling to anyone and gives me a feeling of this-is-monday-and-i-am-angry face. it's okay. Whenever the closest Starbucks is either too far or too crowded, I love finding small, local coffee shops. So while I was waiting for L to have lunch at Malai Marke, I went across the street to Elsewhere Espresso. And I fell in love. It's a quaint little coffee shop with free wifi and small tables - great for doing homework/studying or catching up with a friend. I was between a couple playing chess and a kid studying for his midterms. The shop also has copies of the day's newspapers for customers to read while enjoying a cup of joe. I'm definitely coming back here when I'm in the area - the barista was also absolutely hilarious. I'm not a fan of late people, so she and I decided to come up with different ideas to punish my friend for being late. I don't think I've had that much fun with a barista in a long time. I also love the fact that because this place is still relatively hidden, it's like a neighborhood gem. It's never really crowded and it's nice and quiet - super relaxing. read more

Really really like this coffeeshop. It just so happens that it's across the street from my guitar teacher. How convenient! Of late, I've taken to stopping in here for an hour before a lesson, to have a sip of cold brew & flip some pages of my latest volume. What to expect? I had an almond milk latte here today and it was so amazing! They also have tons of vegan options for other fancy drinks too. It's refreshing to see a coffee shop that a vegan can get a regular drink at. It's so easy to offer soy or almond milk, yet most places don't. I also had vegan brunch there today too! They were hosting a pop-up company who did vegan brunch today, and it was great! I will definitely go to more events like this in the future! read more

This was the worst shot I've had in New York. Anyone who saw the bubbly mess should have known it would be very off, but the barista handed over the cup without a second glance. I probably should have complained, but the fact that he didn't even notice the shot was funky made me doubt that he'd do anything to correct the situation. I found this place in a quest to find the closest place to my apartment, and it turns out it's WONDERFUL. I got an espresso (the most important quality test) and it was short pulled and perfect. Hot, black as night, with the slightest crema. Tastes like purity and sin at the same time. Sexually good. Soy cappucino and decaf espresso are just as good. The only issue is the pastries. I had the blueberry scone which was quite weak and the banana chocolate chip muffin which was OK. Maybe skip the pastries unless they improve them. So--lovely espresso, mediocre pastries. Should be four stars, by my book. But the SERVICE and the lovely LACK OF PRETENTION is so important. I feel so comfortable here and the team is small and confident and knowledgable. An atypical place for its location. No chic attitudes, but definitely a chic place. And uhhh, that espresso. read more

I got a french roast drip coffee that was absolutely delicious. I sat here on a Saturday afternoon for a good three hours reading and writing and it was awesome. It's so nice to find a place in NYC where you don't feel like you're being rushed out. People came in and out, but there was no loud obnoxious customers or blasting music. Totally what I needed. There isn't much seating and the tables are small, but I must have come at a great time because it never over crowded. If you appreciate good coffee, you'll love this place. read more

I have to say that I very much WANTED to like this place as I live right above it. But I have been happily surprised with the consistently delicious coffee, super nice staff and pretty fantastic pastries. I think they are getting them from LuLu's and MAN OH MAN was the pumpkin spice cinnamon bun thing pretty darn delicious. Really like the guy running it and the morning barista. I really should remember their names but I don't. Still, they greet me and my other with a smile every time. Very awesome place to get my morning coffee. There's probably space for a max of 8 people there if they all have their laptops but the place itself if pretty spacious and very chill. Nice local coffee shop near NYU Tisch with great coffee and service. I was visiting NY and waiting while my daughter did a dance audition. They offer pour overs, which I like because you can pick your coffee variety and it's freshly made. They offer a nice selection. I had an Ethiopian and a Sumatran. Both were delicious and made to the right strength, which is to say strong but not muddy. I also had a blueberry scone. It was small and not very sweet, which is actually the way I like a scone. The barista was very friendly. She brought my coffee to my table and was happy to chat. They have free wifi. It's not a big place but comfortable. There isn't a lot of seating so not sure how crowded it gets. It was exactly the place I wanted to relax on a Sat morning with a really good cup of coffee. read more

When I visited this quaint caffeinated destination, they were just in the opening moments of their enterprise. They have wifi for those who may be interested. Their hours, if I remember correctly, are 7 am to 7 pm. The use high quality coffee that was all fair-trade. They had vegan baked goods. I was not fond of the cinnamon roll, but then, I am not a vegan so I would prefer the real eggy-buttery deal. Since they were a novel location for coffee and baked goods, there were not a lot of people at the tables or in and out. I found a table easily each time I visited but be warned, there are not a lot of spaces to crash. They usually have a funny sign out front to attract in guests. On Sundays, the owner carries the New York Times but you will need to ask for it. Evidently, it is a hot commodity. In town with my family visiting for a week. So far, I have had two cappuccinos and a double espresso at Elsewhere. The two caps were on consecutive mornings and were excellent. The espresso was this afternoon and was, surprisingly, really bad. Rather than a nice brew topped with a proper crema, the cup was basically all one thick, bitter, almost soupy liquid. Foolishly, I didn't send it back, but I should have. It was a different girl this afternoon than it had been in the mornings, and she didn't seem nearly as comfortable with the equipment and the process as the morning girl does. I love coming to this small coffee shop. There's usually always a seat unless it's a weekend morning. Their coffee is STRONG and not for the weak hearted. I really enjoy it but just don't drink 2 large coffees at once :) The baristas are really nice and there are a lot of locals that come in, the music and the vibe are relaxing, and they always have fresh almond croissants. I had some time to kill and decided to walk here from Union Square to get a pastry and coffee. I should have known that at 5pm there would be no pastries, so I got a Cortado with Almond milk. Smooth, bold and creamy, it was super tasty. Plus soy and almond milk only costs 25 cents extra so I didn't feel ripped off like I would have felt at fourbucks. Will be back. read more

Very small and clean cafe in East Village. I'm surprised they don't put more tables in because the place feels like it has a lot of empty space in the middle of the store. There were a bunch of people on laptops plowing away when we came. The latte was a little bland, and the espresso flavor wasn't super rich like many of the refined espresso shops in the neighborhood. Pretty decent nonetheless. Their prices also seem steeper than some of the other coffee shops in the hood, but maybe that's just in comparison to the quality. No decaf! Vibe: super quaint (on the smaller side), plays cute old-fashioned background music that's lively - a mix of folky and more soothing music. Seating: a small counter of 4 bar stools, then about 4 small tables that fit 2 people each. They also have a really cute bench that is right in front and faces the window, so you can do some serious people watching. The drip coffee was so good! And super affordable - only $3 and didn't even have to pay extra for almond milk. I had a Sumatra, which the barista recommended. It was so delicious and unique - sweet bell pepper, light malt, and dark chocolate. I wanted to try the cookies as well but they were out. The barista was also super friendly. Great place to work solo or with another person - I came here to do some work and there are a few outlets, one set near the leftmost bar stools and one set near the backmost corner table. What I'd come back for: more drip coffee - they had 2 other types with really interesting fruity mixtures. New coffee shop in the EV, focused on just the basics. That means no syrups (except for chocolate), just coffee and the core espresso drinks (latte, cappuccino). Their strength appears to be in the latter, as I greatly preferred my husband's latte to my iced coffee. They don't have food on the menu, but they did offer the customers complimentary mixed nuts while we were there. Random, but nice. The space is on the small side, but the high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows (which were open on the warm fall day we were here) makes it feel open and airy nonetheless. I stopped in since i live on the street. Firstly, the service is not great. The single barista looked agitated and spoke to me like I was annoying her. She wasn't very good in handling the coffee and espresso as well. I had a latte- she just splashed the overly heated milk into the cup. It's still too hot to drink right now.
