Coffee and tea are not strong at all. Super watered down, lacking in flavor. With that said, it's a nice and pretty quiet cafe even on the weekends! ( hard to find in this area) Great spot to study/read at. Fan, free wifi, bathroom. You pick and choose your battles right? read more

Best Cappuccino and Latte in the neighborhood. I love that they have a wide variety of milk from whole, skim, half half to non dairy soy and almond and even almond chocolate. Good selection of tea as well. But the best is the great personal service. Especially the lovely and sweet girl barista. She always has a smile on her face and a friendly word for all her customers. Quiet little cafe with free wifi, reasonable prices and great big windows for people watching. Reasonable tea and iced tea selection, and was fairly empty on a Saturday afternoon. I'm writing this sitting on a bench just inside the windows looking out at 6th ave. The music and sounds of dishes being put away just add to the homey ambiance. I'll definitely be back! read more

My new favorite cafe!!!! This awesome spot tops Van Leeuwen, Ost, and Abraco (even though I love those nearby coffee houses dearly, too). Elsewhere's lattes and pour overs are excellent, and the small staff is incredibly friendly. It's bright, cozy, and never too crowded (yet) - an awesome place to relax and read. Plus, the owner and his big, beautiful, amazing dog often hang out outside - bonus points for animal lovers! read more

Cute little cafe with a very nice ambience, located in East Village/St Marks. A nice place to read a book and get some work done; quiet enough to hold a proper conversation too. A pity that coffee wasn't amazing - it was pretty average. read more

The current barista is friendly and warm, they play great music and the atmosphere is comfortable n cute unlike most coffee shops in the city that are larger and sterile feeling. Finally, finally, finally. A proper espresso - pulled short, full of flavor, and not bitter. The blend they use is a mix of S. American and Indian (!) which gives it that earthy backbone. My advice? Try at least one shot without milk or sugar. It may win you over to the purists' side. read more

With Abraço around the corner, the coffee competition is rather stiff in this part of the village and so the natural question is, "What would possess someone to opt for this new kid on the coffee block?" Naturally, the fact that Elsewhere Espresso provides seating of some variety lured me in and I was pleasantly surprised, though the establishment's baristas are still perfecting their craft, leading to a product that falls short of the coffee benchmarks set by more esteemed coffee institutions. Light and spacious, the space is perfectly welcoming for one's coffee needs. That said, there is a lot of open space relative to the seating, which seems like a waste in a neighborhood in which seating and space are most desirable commodities. Though the barista initially struck me as a bit curt, I began chatting to him during the course of my coffee consumption and, as it happens, he's an incredibly friendly chap with whom I was able to share war stories regarding my triumphs on the front lines of my Brooklyn coffee engagements. Intrepid coffee explorer? Not at all, I'm just another asshole who takes the stance that - as long as I'm not drinking coffee from a chain - I am better than you. That said, I know not of what I drink. So what about the coffee? Elsewhere Espresso has an excellent pour over selection and - at $2.50 a cup - this is a great deal cheaper than the $4 which is typical of such delights. However, having opted for some Indonesian variety, I was rather underwhelmed as the product tasted burnt and was certainly not up to the standard set by a place like Sweetleaf, which produces a perfectly delicate and rich concoction. That said, the baristas observed that they are still trying to optimize their techniques and, if they are able to improve their results over the upcoming months (they've only been open for approximately six months), they could become an interesting competitor, given their selection. Conclusion: At this point, the coffee results may be hit or miss. Regrettably, though the coffee was okay on the day, it was nowhere near the pour over standards set by my favorite coffee shops. While, at this point, I would not become a regular, with friendly staff, a good concept and a pleasant-enough storefront, I hope that - with time - the coffee comes to be a consistent player in the ensemble. If the lines at Abraço are horrendous and you're looking to be a guinea pig, as the baristas refine their coffee-making expertise, you could do worse than giving Elsewhere Espresso a try. read more

Nice open atmosphere in the summer in a quiet neighborhood of nyc. Went there at 8 in the morning and still managed to get my morning coffee fix fast unlike at Starbucks and whatever chain coffee stores. Go when Frankie works there (mornings on Sunday and Wednesdays + afternoon on Fridays) because she makes a really good espresso! I'd be down to go again to try out some other drinks by her! read more

Excellent espresso. Slightly expensive but the creamy nature of this concoction makes it a great success. Much enjoyable.

Staff is friendly in this little place. Coffee is above average and would be a go to location in most places, but with there being places like La Colombe Torrefaction nearby, this is a 4 star at best. Nothing bad, but in the east village this is absolutely NOT 5 stars. read more

I live right across the street from Elsewhere (so should have written this review aaaaages ago!). It's a really friendly and cute neighborhood place with great coffee. I'm not much of a fan of their baked goods but if your looking for a nice place to sit and read while you enjoy your morning coffee, this is definitely the spot for you. read more

I only went here once, and I plan to go back and may upgrade the rating after that. I love a block away and had been meaning to try this place for a while. It's tough b/c there are SO many really great cafes nearby. I went late morning and got a drip coffee (not pour over). It was $2 and I got it to stay, so it was served in a simple mug. But it was NOT very strong, although everyone else here said the coffee was quite strong. All the good coffee in the EV is strong, but this was pretty average. It wasn't bad, but I ended up walking to the LES for a proper, strong coffee at Roasting Plant! But I loved the space, the decor, the music and the all-glass front. And I adored that it was super quiet & chill! I'll go back again soon & try a pour-over or espresso drink and see what happens & update this post accordingly. read more

I ordered an almond milk latte and vegan salty choc chip cookie. Both items were so amazing. I've recently moved to the area and have been taste testing both coffees and vegan treats. This location severely rises above the rest (and my standards are pretty high!). The cookie particularly was fantastic- creamy, salty and delicious! Zero complaints or criticisms to make. Really weak espresso & customer service. Barista seemed uninterested in helping me when I walked in because she was busy talking to her friend. Americano was weak and bland...barista just dumped a bunch of milk in without asking me how much I wanted. Definitely won't be coming back. read more

my sister and i came here on saturday. we were out in the city for my birthday, and i wanted to try a coffee place. i heard good things about elsewhere espresso. it sounded like the type of place i'd like. i'm soooo glad i decided to come here! it's small and simplistic, and rustic in a modern way. looooove it! we both opted for iced latte with chocolate almond milk. and we both agree that it's the best iced latte we've ever had. not too chocolatey or sweet, and not too much ice, either. it layered up in a really awesome way. i'd totally come here again!! read more

Not great for hanging out (unless you get the front bench). But affordable pour-overs, really affordable drip coffees and taking credit cards is a plus. The barista was nice, the music inoffensive, the front window is sunny. It's too bad it's so weirdly uncomfortable here. I get that they don't want people to hang out here - probably make more money on to-go coffees, but having so few tables AND uncomfortable seating seems a bit over the top. I am actually amazed that in what must be one of the most expensive pieces of real estate, the entire center of this cafe is empty of tables. You could fit three (if generous) to six (if crowded) more tables in here. What a waste. And the tables they do have are accompanied by really narrow hard wooden benches. read more

Live across the street, tried it four times around the time it opened. I haven't been back, don't actually know why I came back after the first time. The guys behind the counter barely speak, just look at you with an empty face and clearly want to get back to the newspaper. Clearly they don't want you to hang around for too long - the benches and tables are very uncomfortable. Starbucks know how to do it - and the even give you a smile. read more
