Eltana is a fun bagel shop. It's wood-fired bagels..and in Seattle, they have their own style of baking bagels. The manager was wearing a t-shirt with Hebrew writing, so maybe she is a real Jew! That's a good thing. The bagel list is a bit esoteric..I saw the rainbow bagel and had to have it for Yelp purposes. It is a plain bagel with rainbow colors. I asked for lox cream cheese, but that was overpriced, so I decided on regular cream cheese. It got out to me real fast and it was decent. Sumac chicken sausage: this was the perfect portion for a breakfast bagel sandwich. Got it on a plain bagel with spicy garlic cream cheese and avocado! Loved the cream cheese flavor along with the rest of the sandwich!! Saffron chicken shawarma: got this on a plain bagel as well and it was sooo filling. Definitely a huge portion for breakfast but the meat was cooked perfectly. The scallion cream cheese paired nicely with the spices from the filling. The crunch from the cucumber and freshness of arugula made it light and refreshing! I would personally get this for brunch/lunch instead of brekkie! I used to live above the Eltana in Capitol Hill and one of the main hesitations I had about moving to Ballard was that I wouldn't be as close to these delicious bagels anymore. It's hard to find Montreal style bagels as the majority here in the US is New York style. As opposed to the NY style which is boiled, Mobtreal style is wood fired so expected will be different. We really enjoyed our bagels- slightly sweet and more toasty. The middle eastern smears were pretty interesting. We also had the bagel and lox- a bit stingy on the lox though. They had the rainbow bagels (extra upcharge to benefit a cause - I forget which) which were fun and colorful. We got an assortment and I liked the taste and texture of all. read more

The bagel was a little undercooked... but I didn't mind too much because I don't like dry bagels, and it definitely wasn't dry! The lox spread was pretty good, but the amount of salmon in the spread is not very consistent. On one half there was quite a bit- on the other, not so much. The girl that helped me was also very friendly and gave me a tester of the lox spread when I couldn't decide. Service was fast. The venue is pretty spacious, very open and has a good number of seats. Tiny bagels, what a treat. ((so sorry to repeat every other reviewer but...)) Coming from NY, I have pretty high bagel standards, and Eltana passes the test. I just wish they were...bigger. My go-to is the Lox on an everything bagel...mmm buttery salmon and crunchy toasted spices and pops of capers! But yes, it does feel like the same price you would pay for a very large normal sized bagel, but instead you are eating a smaller bagel, and feeling fat because you really want a bigger bagel. The za'atar cream cheese is super tasty, and a must-try. Nice staff, but I always feel like a starving impatient psychopath when I order in store, so I like to order online and pick up. I'd love for them to have a separate pickup table, I often feel like I am peering around and trying to make eye contact while waiting in line to ask for my order. read more

So stopped in with my co-worker this morning, bagels were really good soft and tasty, the honey- almonds was blended very well and just sweet enough to compliment the bagel. My co-worker has a Mexican style spread that had a nice jalapeño kick to it. The had a cool atmosphere and full coffee selection. The quality of these bagels have really declined over the last six months. Over the last year, I have purchased bagels from this store (via Postmates) at least twice a month, sometimes more, and the quality has degraded in three areas: (1) taste - the flavor is absent (2) mouthfeel - the bagels have become tougher, I almost wonder if they are serving day old bagels (3) the amount of cream cheese is negligible - maybe they want you to buy a tub of cream cheese rather than pay for an add on, but whatever it is, the quantity used to be generous and now is laughable (see pic for my latest delivery of a salt bagel with cream cheese add on). A tough, flavorless bagel with a negligible amount of cream cheese is unpleasant, I do not recommend. read more

Great cafe with a Mediterranean twist! I love the sesame bagels here. My favorite spread is the za'atar one; give it a try, you won't regret it! I've also had the lentil soup, which was good, but wished the lentils were softer/more cooked. The service is always good. 4 stars because the portions are unfortunately a little small for the price. Just a bagel with cream cheese is 4$. And the bowl of soup was a pretty tiny bowl. Don't come here super hungry, but it's a good place to chill. They even have some of their own crosswords you can do while sipping on your coffee. read more

I've only been to Eltana once, and it's the only local bagel shop I've tried so far, which I think is important context to share. I had the everything bagel (I will never get anything else lol) with the spicy garlic cream cheese spread, and omg. This is the first time in my life I think I've had "spicy" cream cheese which was ACTUALLY spicy. This particular schmear had fresh green chilis cut right into it (I think they were serrano, maybe?) and I definitely had to take breaks while eating it haha. It wasn't too spicy, just the right amount of heat to be enjoyable, and they served it with an orange slice which helped to cut the spice too. Overall, I felt like this was a pretty solid bagel and I'd definitely come back, either to have this one again or to try another spread from their intriguing menu of choices (ras al hanout butter?? Harissa hummus, anyone???). I went on a random weekday morning so it was pretty empty, so can't really speak to the ambiance as far as how it gets when it's more busy. read more

The bagels are ok... but when I'm paying $5 for a bagel with cream cheese, I expect a lot more. The coffee is also just ok. There are much better bagel spots in town (like Bean & Bagel in the U district). And if you simply want breakfast in the area, head 3 blocks south to Stone Way Cafe and try the breakfast burrito! For the same price as one bagel with toppings at Etlana, you can get a generous-sized breakfast burrito with protein, potatoes, egg, the works. Much better use of your money! read more

We occasionally get the lox plain bagels here. They're doing takeouts right now during the pandemic and will have everything in neat little containers. I actually prefer this since they usually spread thick cream cheese on these bagels and I like mine light. The bagels seem to have gotten smaller over the years or my eyes are playing tricks. I was so excited when I moved to Wallingford and found this bagel shop super close to my apartment. I read some reviews and they seemed very mixed so I was skeptical, but bagels are my guilty pleasure so I decided to give it a try. I went in right after they opened in the morning and there weren't any other customers. There were 3 people working the front and they completely ignored me upon walking in. They were just chatting and eventually told me they'd be right with me. One girl took my order, I asked for a drip coffee, and a bagel with spread. The other 2 started working on my bagel and then the girl who took my order proceeded to just stand there. I got my bagel quickly, but they clearly forgot about my coffee. I reminded her and then didn't even get an apology for the wait. The coffee was decent, but the bagel was tiny and still cost almost $6! Definitely not worth it. read more

Been awhile to indulge in bagels from Eltana. Stopped in around 8am and there was already a line out the door! A long time ago the kiddo (when he was much younger) and I stopped by, Eltana had just closed for the day. So sad and very dejected, but the kind soul who was closing offered us the remainders. A monstrous bag of generosity brightened an unemployed mom and preschooler's day back then. Eltana bagels are traditionally boiled and baked, but thankfully at a reasonable size. Not the bagels that are the size of your head! I got a bakers dozen ($17, 14 each) containing plain, everything (seeded), and cinnamon raisin. Lots of variety, it's hard to choose. Got shorted one (13 is an actual bakers dozen, so all is good), but the counter person seemed a bit understandably flustered because the system to take cards was offline. So transactions were taken by post-it. Back at home toasted one and slathered some whipped salmon cream cheese...delightful! That's the way to start a weekend, with a stop to Eltana. Things have changed for the better at Etlana, and it was already darned good in my book to start. I did sometimes have to fight the objections of friends and family members who were on the fence about this place, but perhaps no more. Eltana features chewy, smallish delicious bagels that are boiled and taste legitimate in both the density and taste categories, which for many bagel lovers , like myself, are key features to look for in the "real deal." What has improved is the menu, which now includes many lunch options, including tuna salad, lox and all the fixings, Shakshuka (a pepper, tomato, and egg stew) along with the oldies but goodies like their creamy sweet and savory spreads (my favorite is walnut honey) that amp up their relatively dry & chewy bagel with some creamy lushness. Another improvement is that although the chewiness has stayed the same, our first rounds of Eltana bagels were decidedly burnt and smoky, and now we are noticing they are slightly less so. An improvement. This new location in Wallingford (near to Lake Union) features outdoor patio seating and free and ample parking, to avoid the Capitol Hill hunt and peck. We used to be divided as a family on Etlana, with me as the cheerleader trying to plead my case for another visit, fighting against concerns about parking, menu options, bagel dryness, etc. It looks like this new menu and location has overcome most of the objections (maybe not dryness completely), putting us soundly on the same team. read more

I pass this place all the time, cant believe this place has slipped from my memory. I've been meaning to have breakfast here, so we decided to come by to have a coffee & bagel. Located at the bottom of an apartment building and next to Emerald City Athletics, if you cant find it, just go inside the gym and ask for directions, I'm sure they'll help. Nice looking shop, comfy looking, good amount of tables, window ledge seats and a large community table in the middle. A good selection of bagels to choose with your standard coffee drinks available too. We got a salt bagel and a cinnamon raisin bagel with 2 cups o' joe for here. Bagels were tasty, freshly made, soft & chewy inside, with a nice crust on the outside where you tear it with your teeth as you bite into it. You can see the gentleman making the bagels up front and putting it into the wood stove. Pretty cool! They will offer you samples of bagels too if you not sure on a particular flavor. Staff was great, super friendly, helpful and quick to get your bagel all toasted up, creamed up and called out to you. They dont call by name, so remember what you ordered! Didn't know this was a Mediterranean spot too, guess Ill have to come back to try those offerings. read more

These are some of the best bagels I have had. My favorite is the everything bagel with the honey almond cream cheese. The food is always fresh and I can get in and out pretty quickly, even on a busy Saturday morning. They make rainbow bagels, which are so cute and fun! Wow, just ordered for delivery from this wonderful Israeli cuisine bagel bakery and I am so impressed. The bagels are authentically dense and chewy, very flavorful. Wood fired! The real deal! The shakshuka arrived packed cold and in a deli container, with poached eggs on the side. I microwaved it foe a few minutes and it was glorious and perfect.
