These bagels have really grown on me. My husband and I recently moved into the neighborhood and have started coming here more frequently. At first, we were underwhelmed. These bagels are "just okay" I thought. To be fair, we are fans of the giant NY bagels, which these are not. Eltana bagels are are hand rolled water bagels that are finished off in a wood burning stove. They are small-ish, which can be a let down if you prefer Costco sized breakfast carbs. (If that's the case, they allow you to order an extra half of a bagel. Problem solved!) Once we stopped comparing them to NY bagels, we quickly became addicted to the chewy, dense, more appropriately proportioned Eltana bagel. & they are so fresh! Our favorites: the everything bagel (which is seasoned on BOTH SIDES!) and the salt bagel. They also have a gluten free bagel & several vegan options in place of cream cheese. The prices do seem a bit high, ($4 to put plain cream cheese on 1 bagel), but the cream cheese flavors are unique and worth it. & they are liberal with the cream cheese so you could easily take the excess and spread it on another bagel. As far as lunch goes, the flavors on the Chicken sandwich are excellent but I was let down that the sandwich is served cold. (And again, the sandwiches are made on the bagels so they are smaller). A few more positive things: Free parking in the back parking ramp. Good coffee! Service is friendly and fast. It's a great place to study/work. They have outdoor patio seating. They have a giant crossword puzzle printed weekly (with individual crossword sheets to work on) & have a few more games as well. It's fun to watch them make the bagels right in front of you. & They have accessible philanthropic efforts that give back to the community in tangible ways. ....Any other low-waste people out there? This place uses actual water cups instead of disposable cups. And uses minimal packaging for their to-go bagels. One occasional negative: they often leave the front door open which is not a big deal except the fruit flies can be a bit intrusive. LASTLY! Tuesdays are twice as nice! ...Which means if you buy a bagel on Tuesday then you get a free one to-go. read more

For $5 I got half a small piece on my bagel (they presented the bagel in two halves, face up so I could see just how little I was given). Glad there is a place serving Montreal style bagels which I grew up with and prefer over New York style. Crisp outside, moist and chewy inside with slight sweetness. Some reviews complaining about the size of the bagels but this is on par for Montreal style which tend to be smaller. Some reviews complaining about how hard the bagels are - they will by default toast your bagels for you but I recommend getting the bagels not toasted since it just makes it hard throughout and you lose the chewiness of a Montreal style bagel. Their cream cheeses are thick and they overload your bagel with it. I prefer it over the light, whipped style some other places serve. Their Zataar Scallion cream cheese is really good. I tried a bunch of other bagel places (Old Salt which is down the road, Rubenstein) and this is my favorite place so far for just bagel with cream cheese. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place because of the middle eastern flair even though I knew I was just going to get a lox bagel sandwich. Usually my lox sandwiches have come with the typical fixings of tomato, onion and capers. Here you have to pay extra for each one, that is quite ridiculous. At least give me one free "add on." I chose the capers because I love capers, but these were SO salty. The lox is already salted just enough so the sandwich was not very enjoyable because of the salt factor! The fact that they charge for a few little toppings and the sandwich is pretty small makes me disappointed and feels like I'm getting ripped off. As a customer since 2012, I have watched the level of service degrade to the point that I rarely visit, and regret it when I do. A massive overhaul in your staff is needed. My near-decade weekly visits have been reduced to a handful of times per year, exclusively due to unacceptably rude cashiers who continuously leave me feeling like I'm inconveniencing them when ordering a bagel and coffee. I'm always kind, and I genuinely understand how difficult a customer facing role can be. However, when a long-term patron who says please, thank you, is patient, and tips 20% signs up to Yelp exclusively to leave a complaint for your business, you probably should prioritize enhancing your customer experience. Eltana is doing neighborhood bagel drops - taking pre-paid orders in a zipcode and then delivering a few days later. We got our vagel drop this week and were so hapoy to re-stock our Eltana stash. Pro tip: get freezer bags (free) Split the bagels and the freeze for later. Toast right from the freezer if you've pre-split them! We get 1 doz everything and 1 doz salt. Also got tubs of salmon cream cheese, honey almond cream cheese and the red pepper walnut spread. All delicious. We also got 32 oz Shashuka- a savory tomato and pepper stew (not spicy). We added some poached eggs and creme fraiche and had a great lunch. read more

They have Gluten Free options, but they are NOT CELIAC FRIENDLY. The gal that helped us was very kind in saying that everything is cross contaminated there, aka using the same oven to cook the bagels and double dipping in the spreads. I did appreciate that she was very knowledgeable and up front about it not being Celiac Friendly. read more

Being from NY, I was somewhat skeptical of "wood fired" bagels, but I thought these were really good! And they have many great spreads, too.

I have been to the Eltana cafe located at stone way multiple times. I love their poppy bagel. It's crispy and fresh and better than the ones have had in NYC. The best part is the custom spreads that they have. I have tried most of the savory spreads (being a non-sweet tooth person). Za'atar Scallion Cream cheese and Red walnut pepper are my favorites. Just be aware that the cafe located in Seattle center may not always have fresh bagels. Tel Aviv latte is a very mild coffee with milk dominating the taste and is served in big portion. I usually go to this place for the bagels and the unique spreads. read more

These bagels are chewy and authentic, and not that large (I consider this good). They are also not overly salty or sweet - I think this is the only bagel place in town that I can say this about. I took away a star because the bagels are not always nice looking depending on who is rolling them, and the prices have gone up a lot (although prices everywhere have gone up). read more

Such a concept! I was first introduced to this bagel shop through the Savor Seattle food tour. Why would they bring me to a bagel shop? Because it is DELICIOUS. The bagels are different because they are first boiled before they are put in the wood fired oven. I wanted to love this place. Really. Ok, actually, I wanted to hate this place because I could eat myself clear to 400lbs on bagels alone. But, I looooove bagels. Love them. And was so excited to see a new bagel bakery go in just a block from home. Yay! But, I'm sorry to say, I'm just not a fan. They need salt, badly. Also, they are itty bitty. Also, they are dense with a very tough crust on the outside. Then, to make matters worse, they don't even ask if you want it toasted- they just do it. So, now you have an already tough/dense bagel, which has now been toasted and is ready to demolish the inside of your mouth. One other thing? I got there at about 7:02. They open at 7. The toasted bagel was still cold in the middle. How is that even possilbe 2 minutes after they open? Did I get a bagel from last night? I'm sure I'll give them another try. But for now? Living 5 min away from Eltana has become dangerous, since i'm always tempted to go for a freshly baked bagel in the mornings! Their bagels are very fresh & soft, especially if you visit early. I'd recommend their breakfast bagel (best value in my opinion), or date & walnut spread. However, the portions are very small, especially considering how pricey they are. Great little cafe in Wallingford! I came into Eltana since moving into the neighborhood. I got the drip coffee, and a breakfast sandwich. The sausage was delicious, but the egg was too bulky for the sandwich, and the bagel was on the small side. Also, just some general comments on the atmosphere, it felt very untidy and the milk, sugar, and lid area was very messy - not to mention the trash can to throw stirrers away was too far apart. Also, they have crossword puzzles you can complete as you sip on coffee/eat breakfast, which I think is cute since lots of families and couples visit this place. First things first, it's definitely expensive. Second, it's delicious. They cold brew their iced coffee in bottles, nifty! Their bagels are delicious and full of flavor. so the bagels ARE good, and there are a decent variety of toppings to make your basic bagel experience a nice one. Overall though, they are much smaller than I had hoped for the price they are asking - especially with the sandwiches. I really feel if I'm paying $7-8 for a bagel sandwich, they should specifically make some bagels a bit larger and reserve them to the side for the sandwiches. I ordered a bagel with lox from Eltana via Postmates. The delivery went smoothly but I was disappointed when I received my order. The bagel itself was small, and it was an everything/sesame seed bagel. I'm not sure if that's the default for the bagel with lox but they should give an option to change your preference. There was a good amount of cream cheese on the bagel but the bagel itself was smaller than your average bagel. Also, they did not put a good portion of lox on the bagel. I'm not a tight-wad but this bagel was $8.00 so I had higher expectations. After I ate it I was still hungry. Also, they over toasted the bagel so it was slightly burnt and the seeds tasted roasted. With so many other bagel options, I would not recommend Eltana. read more

I actually really enjoyed this place, but am only giving them three stars because of price and portion ratio. Their bagels and toppings are really good - the honey almond cream cheese is delicious! I recently had a dozen people over for Sunday brunch. I pre-ordered a variety of bagels and spreads. My friends devoured them. Good thing I got lots of the lox spreads. They were filled with big chunks of delicious lox. Heavenly on an everything bagel! Another popular spread was the za'atar. It would also be great on crackers. Proper bagels!! Can't stop thinking about them. These are nearly as good as the authentic Montreal bagels I used to drive 5+ hrs to to bring home to Toronto back in the day. Small, dense, bagels smothered in awesome spreads. Could be more chewy but still best you can get in Seattle. No, they are not the bloated bread rings that most Americans bakers east of NYC try to pass off. Those you can get at QFC and eat at home. These are worth leaving the house for. Way over priced for what you get. I've been there twice and I wont go back unless I have to. Some of the staff is just rude. I went in to get a simple coffee and was told I had to pour it myself out of a bottle and add the cream which is no big deal, its was the WAY I was told. Like I should know. I'd only been there once before and I ordered something else. The menu doesn't state that it comes like that so I don't know how I would have known. Plus I know I looked confused but I was given nothing but the bottle of cold brew and a cup and her back. It's no Murray's Bagels in NY, but I truly thing that Seattle bagels are just completely different than NY and that's ok!! I've learned to love them, especially Eltana. Smaller bagels (which makes you feel less guilty for eating 2!) and delicious spreads. I'd be hard pressed to give you my favorite, but I do have a soft spot for the Lox Spread. They also serve Shashuka, which I've had once, but it's a bummer that it's only served at certain times. read more

We live above Eltana on Stone Way and frequently stop in for breakfast. The bagels are Montreal style (smaller, with a great chew). I really enjoy the salt bagel in particular, it is fantastic in it's simplicity and goes great with one of their amazing cream cheeses. I really enjoy the spicy garlic and the olive herb. Eltana, you aspire towards values of staff who are "capable, curious, communicative and caring." The service you delivered to me today wouldn't have even cut it in a rural McDonald's. From other Yelp reviews here, it sounds like this an ongoing problem for you. Today, I went to Eltana to buy a single bagel to snack on, on the way to an appointment. I had about 8 minutes. There was no one ahead of me in line. The staff member at the counter barely acknowledged my entry, and kept working on the sandwiches he was making, ignoring me. Several minutes later, I ask one of the numerous other staff members who came out, "What do I do to buy a bagel? Am I just waiting for this guy to finish making sandwiches?" They explain that, yes, I just needed to wait for him. (aka: they couldn't sell me a bagel, either). Yet more minutes later, I realize I'm going to be late for my appointment. I tell the employee I have to leave for my appointment, and can't wait any longer. He's literally just like, "Okay". I walk out. Remedial customer service: #1: Your employee needs to tell the customer how long they'll be waiting upfront. If there's no line, people expect relatively prompt service. #2: When it was clear that I needed a quick transaction and didn't have 8 minutes to wait, you should have had a team members stop what they were doing and make the transaction happen -- or let me know from the start, so I'm not standing around for nothing. #3: When a customer is literally walking out because they can't wait any longer - the last thing your employee should be saying is "okay" and let the customer walk. As a small business owner myself, if I didn't have the time to process a payment, I would literally even be handing the person a free bagel as an act of service recovery. I've spent a good amount of money at Eltana over the years, but I won't be spending any more. read more
