If you're thinking about visiting Elvie's, don't hesitate! We decided to find a spot for breakfast after flying into Jackson in the early A.M. We looked on YELP and found Elvie's and decided to give it a shot! We're so glad we did! The warm, friendly greeting set the tone for a very hospitable experience. We perused the menu and soon the three of us, decided to order the pancakes, French classic omelet with sides of bacon and sausage (for extra protein), and a fried chicken biscuit with a side of potatoes. Everything was presented with care and attention to plating. The food was tasty & freshly prepared. The interior is modern and cozy and there are a few tables on the front patio. You can peruse the pictures of "Elvie" on the wall. There's also a framed James Beard nomination on the wall. We're so glad we picked this particular restaurant!

An evening draped in warmth, laughter, and fine conversation -- a night where every course told its own story. We began with a play of contrasts and texture: hand-cut beef tartare elevated by chive and dill, crowned with a whisper of smoked salt and served alongside golden-grilled bread. Beside it, Oysters Elvaretta -- kissed with bacon, Parmesan, and tender artichoke -- offering a briny depth softened by a crisp French baguette. The main courses arrived in a duet of indulgence. First, "Pork Two Ways" -- confit pork belly yielding beneath its crackling skin, paired with crisp rillettes, confit Alabama apples, silky miso butternut squash, and bright pickled mustard seeds that illuminated each bite. Then, Mississippi braised beef cheek, rich and unctuous, glazed in Hoover sauce and served with local carrots, a French onion soubise, and a touch of horseradish and toasted benne seeds -- a dish that spoke of patience, craft, and the quiet power of Southern terroir. Dessert brought a final note of comfort and grace. A salted caramel and chocolate brownie -- molten within -- paired with vanilla ice cream, benne seed crumble, and sea salt. Beside it, an espresso layered pudding with mascarpone, crisp wafers, and praline dulce de leche, each spoonful an embrace of brightness and depth. We lingered over a chilled glass of non-alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc, letting the evening stretch gently into memory -- a testament to shared company, exceptional ingredients, and the simple elegance of a meal prepared with devotion.

Elvie's is one of those neighborhood spots that just gets it. This breakfast plate hit the mark--simple, well-executed, and comforting, from the fluffy eggs to the biscuit and savory sausage. The service is friendly and attentive without hovering, and the ambiance has that warm Belhaven charm--relaxed, welcoming, and perfect for easing into your morning. A great place to slow down, enjoy a solid meal, and feel taken care of.

I would give the food five stars, the ambiance 4 stars, and the service 3 stars which gives an overall rating of four stars. I ordered a shrimp cocktail, a specialty drink called the Saint Valentine, and the chef's board. The chef's board is a fancy charcuterie style dish where the chef chooses the meats and it varies based on when you come in. I thought the meat selection was good and I really liked the pecan jam it comes with. My shrimp were juicy and tasty. The person I was with didn't like the menu too much and only ordered fries. The ambiance is nice because it's in a trendy part of town and they have a nice bar area and the lighting is just right. The reason why I only give service three stars is for a few reason. Firstly, the host sat me at the bar and I was waiting several minutes to be given a menu. I thought the people behind the bar would give me one. Then I saw the host sat a couple people beside me and he gave them menus... even though I hadn't been offered one. I had to ask the host to give me menus. Also I was bothered because I ordered the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and it wasn't given to me before my meal. I noticed it sitting on the counter (uncomfortably placed beside a used cup) and I asked for it. They did not give it to me because they said I needed to wait for my friend's fries to be done. I had to stare at my shrimp for 10-15 minutes just sitting on the counter while I was hungry because they wouldn't just hand it to me. I don't think I would come here again.

One of my favorites for the shrimp and grits! The roux has an authentic Cajun flavor and all of the spices and seasoning are balanced perfectly. The poached egg on top of the dish sets it off....and I'm not typically a "runny/sunny egg" girl! The duck fat hash browns are crisp. The service is always 10/10 and the ambiance is nice and quaint!

So we went there for breakfast. The menu is limited. Let's get started. Wait time to be seated (5) Host (5) Server(5) Mae Wait time for food to reach table (3) it was crowded and it took about 40 minutes for the food to reach our table Appearance of food (4) Taste of food (varied from 2-5) Omelette was good but ham very salty Hash browns for me was a miss Pancakes were a hit with the kids Bacon was a (1) because it was burned on the edges and raw in the middle. Bread for me was a (2) it was too hard. Orange juice (5+) That place was super small and super crowded. Apparently a lot of people dine there so maybe this first experience was unusual. Will I return, maybe but no time soon. Do I recommend this place, of course, the people are friendly and this may be the type of food some of you readers like. Overall I give them a (3) ForRealFran

Listed in the Michelin Guide, the food I received was under seasoned and over priced. I'm in Jackson for work once a year for work and this was one of my first stops. I had to ask for salt. They actually don't have salt and pepper shakers, so they gave me the salt and pepper on a plate. I have no issue with that but that shows you how (falsely) confident they are in the seasoning of their food. Same phrase, different restaurant, I WON'T BE BACK .

During a day stroll, I decided to visit this restaurant based on a friend's recommendation, and I was certainly not disappointed. It lived up to all the hype and awards I've read about. Being a fan of both boudin and escargot, I was thrilled to find they had combined these two for a limited time, and they were phenomenal, to say the least. A very southern cozy vibe especially at the bar. I sampled an array of cocktails, but my favorite was the Negroni served "IN" ice. The cocktail arrived in a glass with an ice ball and a small hammer. Initially, I was a bit confused but pleasantly intrigued. I was instructed to crack the ice to access my drink. After a few taps, the ice shattered, and the cocktail flowed out elegantly as the ice pieces danced to a smooth stop. I loved every second of my experience there and look forward to returning one day.

Came during a the 5k, so it was quite busy. I got an espresso martini and the Classic Americaine meal--both were fantastic! The martini had actual espresso instead of a liquor and didn't have a lot of syrups. The sausage had a kick to it which was delicious. The vibe was very relaxing and old school. I loved the bar set up. Was worth the wait!

We had a great meal on our visit. Absolutely loved everything that we put in our pudgy little mouths! We arrive to find a wait for tables but were able to slide right up to the bar on the left where the cooks line and expo are. This made for a birds eye view of the crew as they prepared the food for the restaurant full of patrons. Most people would probably hate the view, but I loved it. It was awesome to watch them assemble the various entrees. I had Churchill's breakfast to drink and loved it. I see why he was such a cool Prez now! Duck fat hash browns is a whole ass dish here and it is fucking fantastic! Get it and you will not be disappointed. Bloody Mary is great but paper straws suck!!! I really wished that I lived closer so I could come here all of the time. I wanted to come the last time I was in town but they were closed on Sunday. Damn it. I guess it will be next time. '24 - 26/100

I'm not sure if there is a better restaurant in the state of Mississippi. I call the chef a culinary genius!! The food is beyond amazing! The staff is all amazing! We love Nicole! They take reservations and I recommend making them. I can't say enough good things. If you are looking for an amazing meal start to finish look no further! read more

The food was middle of the road. Had the steak special recently and the fois gras butter was ice cold. My wife had the chicken special and could only eat half because of the gristle that was included. Service was weak and did not feel there was value for the money. read more

Always fresh and delicious and service is excellent! We are vegan and have been 3 times, each time without calling ahead. We have always been accommodated with an equally appealing option to those with us. They usually have a vegetarian option that can be made vegan, but on one occasion had them make a dish just for us! Also, excellet bar and wine selection. Easy to see why Hunter Evans is a James Beard nominee! read more

Superb! This gem is one that you'll want to make reservations at when possible. No matter breakfast, lunch, or dinner, we've been absolutely impressed by their menu offerings, craft cocktails, and service! We came because of the great reviews and were disappointed. 3 different waitresses waited on our table at different times. I ordered lunch burger well done. It came absolutely raw, barely browned. The wife ordered the Redfish and it was not bad. They brought my burger back after my wife had finished eating. The burger was ok . Fries were very good to be fair. Atmosphere was ok. The place was full of young college age people. They gave us a free desert for the mess up which was nice. The desert was excellent read more

I'd like to start this review off by saying the food that we had in the tasting menu was amazing! We especially loved the pork belly and sweet potato dish. Complements to the chef on great food. We were so excited to come to this restaurant and celebrate 10 years together. What was disappointing was how long it took for us to get each course. Also we were sat at a table where I faced the door to the kitchen. So every time the door was opened, bright fluorescent lights shown in my eyes. It wouldn't have been so bad but since it was a dimly lit restaurant, it was just a lot more noticeable (also we were there for 2 1/2 hours so you can imagine it happened a lot). The seat my husband was in was sat near or right on top of a floor vent. He didn't mention it while we were there but after we left he said that he was very cold the whole time. The restaurant is beautiful. The dim lighting is nice. But the restaurant was very loud and we couldn't understand anything our waiter was telling us about our tasting courses because of this. We also did not receive a menu to look at as our courses were being brought out to us so a lot of the times we weren't 100% sure on what we were eating. Our waiter did wear a mask the whole time and we do appreciate that. I don't think that had anything to do with us not being able to hear him. We came with friends and we basically kind of had to yell at each other to hear each other the whole time we were there. I have had tasting menus many times before, and it was not what we expected for the price that we paid. With a tasting menu you just expect to have great food and a great experience all rolled into one. So for us that was just disappointing. For a six course tasting menu we were there for 2 1/2 hours. I don't know if this is just growing pains or they were busier than normal but we will seriously have to consider whether or not we want to spend our time and money there again. read more

From the design of the restaurant to the thoughtful plating, Elvie's is quite a wonderful experience. Mixing classic Southern fare with a more modern approach can be risky, but in the case of this place, it's done superbly. Will be back anytime we are in Jackson--especially, if we're lucky enough get in for dinner reservations! read more

Every girls night we try to plan an outing a new restaurant. Somewhere we all have never been. Tonight at was Elvie's. Service was spectacular! Cocktails were top notch. The charcuterie board was AHHH MAZING!! The entrees... that's where they failed. I order redfish and it tasted like someone squeezed 20 lemons on top. One friend ordered a steak and she complained it was half fat. We finished with dessert. Let me tell you... that Espresso pudding was the STAR!! I'll certainly be returning for cocktails and dessert. I'll pass on the full dinner though. read more

The place was nice and had a good vibe, but the service was not the best. My friends and I constantly had to wave down our waitress to order or get a refill on drinks and when she walked by the table she would just give a side eye look and keep walking never really interacting or asking how the meal was. I got the stake and it tasted like a burned burger and I wished it was better seasoned and the fries that came with it were slightly soggy, but the sauce you get to dip them did make it better and the steak (you had to ask for the sauce). The only thing I really liked out of my order was the bread and butter. Overall, the experience at Elvie's was not that good, and I'm disappointed because I had other friend tell me how great it is. read more

Stopped here for lunch. First off, it's so cute inside. Absolutely adorable. Anyway, the food was delicious. The chicken sandwich was phenomenal. The chicken breast was like the size of my face lol! The bread was soft & yummy too. I'm also weirdly obsessed with their Caesar salad. Complimented the sandwich perfectly. Also Be prepared to parallel park. The time we went we were able to find a park quickly but still it's parallel parking lol. I plan to be a lunch regular, loved it. read more

Service sucked. I ordered my breakfast and asked if I could have my toast brought out first so I could eat it with my coffee . To my surprise the lady who took my order said NO ! Bread will only come out with the plate. I'm sorry , but I thought I'm the customer who is paying for this . After waiting for 30 minutes, they bring out the food and I wanted a refill for my coffee, but the waiter was no where to be found. Finally I asked another lady who was bringing the food out for the table next to mine if I could get a refill for my coffee and she was nice to bring me more coffee. They serve their coffee in small cups , so if you like coffee you might want to bring your own mug. Terrible service and I drove 12 miles to come out and try this out place. Great disappointment. read more

I've always had great meals. I think the food is great. My last visit, on Nov 6, was, frankly, not great. My food dropped a solid 10 minutes after the rest of the table. When I mentioned it to my waitress and asked if they had an expo, the manager came to speak. She (who apparently served as expo) was incredibly defensive, curt, and dismissive. She described how long it took to make a biscuit said she was sorry I was disappointed (not apologizing for her error) and before I could speak, she immediately walked away. Look, I understand food can get delayed... perhaps she felt that I was looking for a comp (I'd have flatly refused a comp if she offered) but the way the manager handled this really left a terrible impression. I went back and looked, and my family has spent nearly $1000 here over the past 18 months... when we didn't have to during a pandemic. It's doubtful we'll return now, which is a same. There are better ways to run a restaurant. Be nice, apologize, empathize, and fix the issue. That's all anyone wants. I didn't get that at my last visit. read more

Have lived here for 6 months now and first time eating here. This is my favorite restaurant in Jackson ! So so good. The fish was cooked perfectly . The dishes were interesting and so tasty... and the desert omg... the absolute best. This place did not disappoint. Only thing that I did not love was the red zin wine , preferred the cab merlot blend. The inside of the restaurant makes you feel like you're not in Mississippi. It was romantic and a perfect date night. Will be back here for sure . read more

If you have not tried Elvie'a, please stay away!! That way, the wait for all of this deliciousness will be shorter. I cannot begin to express how delicious everything I have ever had at Elvie's is. We had brunch at Elvie's yesterday. It was my choice because I could not wait to order the Citron dessert again. We ordered Duck Fat Hashbrowns and the Hashtag Fry and Elvaretta omelets. Best omelets ever. Bacon, fried oysters, hollandaise!! Heaven! Cheese grits-the bomb! I could have licked the plates if I were a plate licking kind of person. I'm not, but I seriously considered it. The Boozy Coffee was also a delicious addition to the breakfast. Try the Cereal milk punch. Elvie's mixologist is a mix-master. The Citron dessert was the perfect light finish to our breakfast. As good as the first time I had it. My compliments to the chef, the drink master, the wait staff, and heck, why not, anyone who delivers the supplies to create these delicacies. read more

My day and I had brunch there Saturday and the place was hopping at 11:30 After a few minutes we opted to sit at the bar and were well pleased with our place We watched and spoke with our mixoligest as she worked We Learned several tips on how the set up prior to service ( they make all their mixes ) great Food was a Wonderful selection of Shrimp and grits, while I had a eggs Benedict. Wonderful really is an understatement as to the selection we had We havE reservations in the evening next week Great to hAve this level of foOd aardvark service here in Jackson read more

Had the brisket poutine for breakfast. Comes with a poached egg, seemed more hard boiled than poached. The weight of the cheese was more than the weight of hollandaise (possibly one and a half ounces) which I'm assuming is what makes it poutine? Brisket was great potatoes were great. Calling a brisket with potatoes and cheese and an egg makes way more sense than calling it brisket poutine read more

This place knocked it out of the park on all fronts. From atmosphere and aesthetic to the quality and taste of the food. The creativity of the cocktails and amazing recipe combinations from Chef Hunter Evans are seriously impressive. I have been for breakfast and dinner, and both experiences were great. We're on a 10 day trip throughout the South and, after eating hotel breakfasts for the past several days, were looking forward to a real meal. We found Elvie's on Yelp. It looked good so we thought we'd give it a try. The hostess who seated us was not rude but not particularly friendly either. She sat us and immediately went back to standing at the hostess station, which was approximately 5 feet from our table. We sat at the table for 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging us, offering to get us drinks or take our order, say hello or good morning, etc. This is all while the rest of the patrons were being served and/or multiple restaurant staff stood around talking to each other, the hostess standing 5 feet from us at the hostess station, etc. We finally left, with no one acknowledging us on our way out either. The food that everyone else was eating looked good, it's disappointing we didn't get a chance to try it. read more

In fairness, I'm a certified Curmudgeon so I haven't been back since a poor service experience during the first month they were open. The food was tepid and order served completely out of sequence. (Probably a waiter issue). Adult beverages were in small glasses with BIG prices (imagine grandma's little juice glasses). Small space with lots of tables packed-in and constant movement with servers and patrons all trying to squeeze by, brushing up against you and jostling your arms while your trying to properly manage silverware. They couldn't help it...the table arrangement was awkward at best. Premium prices for a less than premium experience. I'm sure it's has to have improved by now...maybe you could try them out via Grub-hub or Waiter.com delivery first if you're claustrophobic. read more

First time for my son and daughter to the place so they had free range of menu. Never had bone marrow!! Was a delicacy in taste can't even express. Next caviar served with potato chip!!!! What??? Yes!! Beef tartare!! With French bread!!! That was too much. Entrees: OSSo Bosso! Duck, redfish!! Beef!!! OMG !!! The best in Jackson! Visiting from Jacksonville, Florida. This place was highly recommended. With a sweet southern, French style. The ambience is only the beginning of your experience. The staff is very welcoming and warm. The menu is simple yet perfected with choices of southern delights with a modern twist. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Most people know and recognize a unique culture around the food in New Orleans. It is fun, flavorful, nurturing, and communal. I got a front row seat of that from my grandmother.One of the great things about food is the ability to strike all those chords of emotions that come with being human. It would be an understatement to say that I had high expectations after someone informed me that the chef had allegedly been nominated for several James Beard awards. I decided to order a simple dish, the pastrami sandwich, to see how Elvie's could execute it. In my opinion, nothing could be simpler than making a delicious sandwich. Oh, how wrong I was! The pastrami on my sandwich was tough and thick. It was like trying to eat a slab of sun-dried ham. Every bite was a struggle. I had to drink gulps of water in an attempt to rehydrate the thick pastrami slabs as they lingered in my mouth. The sandwich didn't have a lot of flavor either. Overall, I was not impressed.
