Disappointing taste for the price. Tried the grouper and found it odd and bland. Second time here. $200 meal. Left hungry.

We had a mishap on our end with a reservation and Elvie's made it work, squeezing a table of 9 in at the last minute. Then they pulled the Eric, the maitre d', and had him serve our table. This place is an addiction. I have managed to taste about everything on the menu. If you go once you will dream of duck fat hash browns and Poutine. This was by far the worst experience I ever had at a restaurant. I don't normally post about my experience, but the food was not good at all. The noise was so loud that I actually got a headache from just sitting there, and when asked about the noise I was told by a manager it was normal. So, apparently if you go there you need to yell to have a conversation. The duck confit was overpowered by the beans. The truffle fries had no truffle, and the cold Pecan Pie Paris Brest was the worst. I will definitely never go back and will tell anyone who asks about it to definitely go somewhere else if they want a nice evening. read more

Look, these guys have a "we're a real good place".attitude; but, that's just it, more of an attitude than reality. Have gone many times when in toŵn, not out of my strong desire but will not anymore. Saturday night my brother was there party of four. In leaving he left his wool cap and jacket behind accidently. Everyone in the party laughed knowing what he'd done, "Guess you're going back to Elvie's". Went back with him the NEXT open time meal: breakfast Tueesday. No joke, they literally said, "I wasn't here Sat. night & neither was the manager. So...there really is nothing we can do." The manager never talked to us, they never asked for a phone number or any thing else. They just sttod behind the counter & stared at us as we left--BTY way too many employees. It has a great ambiance. Our waitress was so nice and attentive. My food was really good. I got the pancakes, bacon, grits, and eggs. I also got a sangria that I didn't like so much. My waitress was nice enough to take it and give me a mimosa that was way better. The crowd there and the places around was interesting. I loved the experience. read more

I really wanted to love this place, but I can't give more than four stars. Overall, pretty good. Loved the building, and service was very good. But, my eggs Benedict was very salty, and difficult to cut as it was placed in a bowl -- and the knife was so tiny it fell into my bowl as I tried to cut the English muffin down at the bottom of that bowl. And the orange juice was in a medium-sized glass FILLED with ice -- VERY little juice. I'll be back to try some other things. My friend's breakfast was great. Service was great. read more

My wife and I made our first trip to Elvie's last night. Everything was impeccable! The space is gorgeous. David did an amazing job waiting on us. I love that they have non-alcoholic beverages for the DDs. I had the Lady Grey Lemonade. We had the baked brie for a starter. It was delicious! The details really mattered here (honey was warm to match the brie instead of cool, bread was warmed through, not dry or brittle). My wife had the redfish almondine. Bright, complex, and clean flavor! For me the lemon made the dish. I had the steak frites. Steak was delicious. The big surprise was the duck fat fries - expertly made (double fried, seasoned well). We had the profiteroles and the caramel benne seed blondie for dessert. The blondie is now in my top tier of desserts in the city! I wasn't sure what benne seeds were. They use them to make a type of brittle with a nutty flavor that adds great texture to the dish. Each component of the dish is excellent, and the whole still manages to be greater than the sum of its parts. Our only small issue was the space was a little loud (solid surfaces and a full room). Ok. First trip and review. Portion size was good, somewhere between small plate and a full plate. Food was fresh and tasty. Nice decor. Only negative was wine list was lacking and seemed immature. By this I mean brands you never heard of, no description of the wines as "smoky oaky or sweet and crisp ". Wines went from $40 to quickly $150 to $300. Because of no description we went to wine by the glass. Never have understood restaurants regarding wine. They are in the business of flavor and taste but we have no idea what our $300 bottle of wine tastes like nor will we share it with you. It causes one to buy down on the wine offerings as we did. Service was bad. Five of us went there for lunch after Spring Market. The waiter took our order and then nothing! People were seated after us and the waiter took their orders but never came back to our table! After waiting over 40 minutes (we were enjoying our Bloody Mary's) and the tables seated after us had received their food, we got the waiter's attention and asked about our food. He left and came back and blamed the computer for not entering the order! Mind you he said he put it in the computer but the computer lost it! We asked about a comp for the meal and he said he would speak with the manager. In the meantime, we were suppose to be appeased by the little blackberry cocktail he brought us, which was "ugh." Waited another 15 minutes and out came the food. Food was good except the grits were on the cool side. We told the waiter and he made a face and turned and walked off. He did not offer to get hot grits for us. The manager never came over to speak with us. Got out bill, paid it and left. We will not be back. Elvie's just lost 5 customers who will not be returning! read more

We were lucky to find a table without reservations on a trip through town. What a cute place with an interesting breakfast/brunch menu. The grapefruit brûlée was delicious, as were the pancakes and French omelette. Definitely worth the out of the way stop for us. read more

We were made aware of Elvie's recently by someone from New Orleans who said we had to try Elvie's. Since then we have dined here every time we have been in Jackson. The food and service is excellent, they locally source the ingredients and make all food in-house. (except the ketchup and Duke's mayonnaise ) . Our server, Jen gave us an overview of the Owners vision for the restaurant. Elvie's is possibly the best restaurant gem in Jackson . A must try!
