Went here for a birthday celebration on a Tuesday night. We arrived just before 6pm. We had an outdoor table, and we were the only ones on the patio for a good long while. The view is dreamy. You are transported to another place. It was such a nice surprise to have the savory croissants. For the rest of our meal, we had: -Avocado tostada -Burger with 3x cooked fries -Grilled lobster -Grilled snap peas with kimchi aioli -German chocolate cake The croissants and the avocado tostada were our favorites. We also liked the our entrees as well. It was a nice change to have the snap peas in aioli. We were hoping the fries would be exactly like the fries (for fish and chips dish) at California English. They were close, but not identical. At the end, our server treated us to a birthday dessert of German Chocolate cake. That cake was huge, and delicious! Hats off to our server who was always cheerful, and managed to show up at the right times. We will definitely come back here. Some of the items on the menu are pricey, while other items are within reason. If anything, come here for some snacks, and enjoy the view. Waited at least a year before returning to the restaurant. My daughter wanted the kids steak so badly that she raved about 4 months ago when she ate there. So I treated her on 9/23/24. I expected a lot of noise in the dining room but there was not much. This was my final visit. Ever. It's so disappointing. Carlsbad is filled with too many lower quality mediocre restaurants. Its appalling. Land and rent is too overpriced to invite high quality restaurants in town. Anyway, Ordered the Beet and strawberry and yogurt salad. 4/5. Medium portion amount. Ordered the Denver Steak Wagyu 8oz. Top steakhouses offer multiple weights. Not here. I walked in wanting the filet mignon. The server talked me out of it. Price and size were basically the same. It came out sliced which i do not mind. Salted and Buttered like most steakhouses. It was tough and chewy. Was it a wagyu strip steak? Must have been.... but snake river? Come on. I should have been able to cut through it with a fork. Bad referral. I ate half of it and saved it for my son to see what he thought of it. My daughter's kids steak was tough as nails and lots of gristle. She liked it. I did not cause a scene but i wanted to really lay it in on the restaurant. I also did not want to embarrass her. Triple cooked fries have declined too. A lot of diners commented in the croissants. They were fine. They are not the mainstay of the establishment. They did not offer more rolls. Rude. $21 for a French 75. Absurd. Called it a Botanist Martini on the check. No wonder it was 21 bucks. Dessert was the best part of the meal besides the salad. Food arrived very very fast. Ember & Rye is located inside the Park Hyatt Aviara. We found seating at the bar and had a nice view of the golf course! Since we had reservations for dinner at another place, we only got a few items to munch on. We shared the grilled shishito peppers and the hamachi crudo. My friend also ordered a glass of wine. The appetizers were light and held us over until dinner. The bartenders were really friendly! They let us play with the bubbles that came with one of the cocktails- so fun! Would love to come back and dine in the main room next time! read more

We started off with the Lobster Knuckle Sandwich, and it was delicious. It was packed with flavorful lobster in a crispy roll. Then we shared the Thai Cobb Salad and the California Burrito. The Thai Cobb Salad needed better ratios of lettuces to toppings. We were left with a heap of lettuce, which took up more than half of the bowl, so half of the salad went uneaten (I don't typically eat lettuce on its own). And the California Burrito was underwhelming. We had a better version of this from a food truck in Orange County. The French fries were also nothing special. I have a feeling the dinner menu is better than the lunch menu, so I will have to return at some point for dinner. read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant. It turned out to be a mixed bag in terms of food. Our waitress had a bit of a bad attitude but she cleaned it up by the end of the meal. We had the avocado stuffed with crab and it was good and a very cool concept but the avocado overpowered the flavor of the crab. If they doubled the amount of crab this would be an incredible item. We ordered the corn creme brulee which was under the vegetable section but tasted like a dessert so it was disappointing as we were ordering it as a side vegetable. We then ordered the roasted cauliflower "pot roast". This was extremely disappointing. It had absolutely no flavor and was slightly undercooked so it was crunchy. It came with a sauce but not enough sauce to make up for the lack of flavor to the cauliflower. They gave us complimentary mini croissants as bread and they were very tasty and moist and flaky. For the entree we had the lobster pasta. It was quite goodf. The flavor of the sauce was good but it could have used more lobster. The pasta was cooked perfectly. For dessert they brought us a complimentary chocolate cake plate as it was my birthday. They made it very cute and although I actually don't like Chocolate cake I ate this one and it was super moist and tasty. It was very nice of them to provide a comp birthday plate. I think this restaurant is more oriented toward meat eaters as the meat seems to be the specialty on the menu. Service: Start to finish the service was top notch! Everyone was respectful, friendly, and checked on us frequently (without being overbearing)! I love the attention to detail- switching out plates & utensils between courses & bringing out a slab of knives to choose from for the steak. Food: -Complimentary garlic croissants: holy crap these were amazing! Some of the best croissants I've had! -Avocado tostada: MY FAV- MUST GET!! They packed it with tuna and everything tasted sooo fresh! I loved it! -Special roll of the day: I don't remember the name but the roll itself was pretty good. I wish the crispy bits were crispier as they tasted a bit soggy. -Steak: slightly over cooked and more medium than medium rare but had a delicious salt crusting and juicy! -Snow crab uni butter fettuccini: Portion was large and they didn't skimp on the snow crab! However, pasta itself was dry and needed more sauce. I didn't like it too muc -Sweet spicy Chinese greens: Sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy! I liked it! I should've ordered it with a different entree though- it didn't pair well with what we got. -Complimentary banana split for birthday: super nice touch! Ember & Rye is fantastic. We thought it was inside the Hyatt (which is beautiful by the way), but it is actually down the road/hill on the golf course by the pro shop. The Hyatt offers a free shuttle to the restaurant. Ember & Rye offers fine dining, but with a relaxed atmosphere. Everyone was raving about the Thor's Hammer steak; but I elected to go with a bacon wrapped filet. It was excellent. My wife had the lobster and she was equally impressed. They have a good variety of appetizers, vegetables, salads, and shareable starters: many unique designs and all fresh. We ended the night with a couple coffees, not because we really wanted a coffee; but because we wanted the mug to commemorate the experience. Next summer when we return to Carlsbad, the Ember & Rye will definitely be on our to-do list. read more

There's no way to describe Ember & Rye other than...amazing in every way. My Neptunes's Cut Swordfish was perfect. Absolutely delicious. We had a large group so ordered a couple of the $162 "Epic Snack Towers" which consisted of Avocado Tuna Tartare Tostadas, Beef Tartare, Crab Avo, Prawns, Lobster knuckle sandwiches and more, plus a couple orders of the Shishito peppers. All super tasty. I also enjoyed my "Not Too" Old Fashioned, the Japanese Wagyu Infused Bourbon was truly something special and different. Excellent sipper. Finally, a few of the people in our group ordered the "Smoking Ember" cocktail, and loved it...WOW what a presentation. 10/10 will take my wife here next time. read more

We came to SD for a conference and I found this restaurant on an Eater article of musts in SD. They were 100% right. We had amazing service (Erika in the photo). Erika gave us the best recommendations. When our steak was a overdone, she rushed it back and got us another one. She was very attentive and provided the best service we have had in a very long time. Here is what we got: Squash Blossoms: crispy and so flavorful. One of the best appetizers I have ever had Beef tar tar: delicious Sea bass: tender with an amazing sauce Corn and jalapeño salad: light and crunchy Beef steak tomatoes: melts in your mouth. Love the Zaatar Steak: Honestly this was fine, nothing spectacular. We enjoyed everything else more. I wish we lived in the area as this would be a regular spot for us, but unfortunately we don't. When looking for a place to have a celebratory dinner, we were concerned that this place had less than four stars, but we wanted to try it anyway. Now that we've eaten here, I understand some of the poor reviews. It was largely empty when we arrived and that's never a great sign but not a big deal. The space, however, was clean and pleasant. Our server greeted us promptly and was friendly and pleasant. So far so good. We were given the complimentary garlic croissants and, while they were tasty, we were surprised that they weren't warm. Definitely a missed opportunity as we both thought they'd be so much better if they were warm. They do offer these on the menu if you want to order more of them and I'd have been a bit pissed if I paid for cool croissants. We ordered steaks (Denver and New York) and shared two sides. Both steaks were a bit overcooked from the medium rare we ordered and they looked a bit smaller than the advertised 8 and 10 ounces. Additionally, neither steak was very warm. I'm guessing they rested the steaks before bringing them out but eating cool overcooked steaks was a bummer. Fortunately they were tasty and well seasoned. The triple-fried frites were ok. We expected better. The truffled-pepper ketchup tasted nothing like truffle and we pushed it aside. The Brussels sprouts were pretty good but nothing near amazing. We finished with the pina colada cake and it too was a disappointment. It simply tasted old, like it was sitting in a refrigerator for a few too many days. We didn't even finish it. In short, we expected a significantly better dining experience but it wasn't to be. read more

Decided to celebrate here tonight and normally I like to take my time to write reviews, but I am so full from all the food, that I figured I should sit up and write a review instead of falling into a food coma in my bed. This is the old Argyle steakhouse and they're rebranded it to Richard Blais's Ember & Rye and after careful review of the menu multiple times, I decided to make a reservation and drive 3 minutes over to have a great meal here. Things we ate: SNACK - Lobster Knuckle Sandwich - delicious and done well, but I felt like the caviar was overpowering the lobster a bit. Avocado Tostada - it's ahi with avocado on a tostada topped with a mango "egg" because it looks and has the consistency of an egg yolk, but it's mango sauce. Everything was good on this except for the stale tostada. I think if they made it fresh, it would really put this dish over the top. It's unique, fresh, and delicious, with the exception of the tostada. Garlic croissants - this was perfection and the garlic was not overpowering. I loved every bite or maybe because I missed having gluten and now that I can have it again, it's making me too happy. Dungeness Crab bucatini - I was disappointed that this wasn't lobster like it said on the website, but I love crab anyway so whatever, it was still delicious and I loved every bite. Corn creme brulee - I am thoroughly impressed that they were able to puree the creamed corn to have the consistency of the cream in the creme brulee and then have this bruleed topping. It was sweet, but not too sweet, savory enough to have as a side and we licked this plate clean. Roasted cauliflower "Pot Roast" with romesco sauce - this thing was so good and I loved the romesco sauce, I can see why it's a vegetarian's version of "pot roast" because it was hearty and filling. I didn't think I had room for dessert but after looking at the menu, I went for it and we got: Strawberry jello with smoked vanilla cream, it was light and perfectly balanced with fresh strawberries. Coffee crunch bundt cake with vanilla cake and honeycomb candy, it reminded me of Nothing Bundt cake and Addision joined partnership to make this dessert, beause the honeycomb candy reminds me of how they make it at Addison and the mini bundt cake reminded me of a bundtini I had from Nothing Bundt cakes. Either way, with this place being so close to my house and the food being so delicious, I plan to come back and plan to hang out at the bar, ordering drinks and good food. read more

But the food was just not what you'd expect from a fine-dining-San Diego area establishment. Pros: gorgeous place, friendly staff, sat us down promptly, fresh ingredients Cons: average tasting food, long wait, pricey for the boring flavors We ordered appetizers and entrées at the same time. No drinks. Shrimp cocktail, potato chips and dip, avocado tostada, 2 roast beef dips, a cheeseburger, and steak burrito. Unfortunately, 50 min lapsed between the appetizers and entrées. Way too long! Especially since they weren't busy. But we didn't complain and waited patiently hoping the food would be worth the wait because sometimes, the food is so fabulous that you forget it took so long. Right?! Not the case here. Chips (literally 3 flower shaped chips) and onion dip were odd in that it really lacked flavor and texture, although it looked pretty. The Shrimp Cocktail was good, not great. The avocado tostada was also good but nothing special. After a very long wait of 50 minutes our lunch was served. My filet burrito had a lot of meat but nothing else really. I like burritos with a lot of yummy flavors like a sauce with beans or veggies or cheese or something tasty. I had a couple of bites and was over it. The burger was terrible. She literally couldn't get past the first bite. The texture of the meat was really off. And for someone who's a cheeseburger aficionado ranging from In-N-Out to Flemmings famous happy hour burger, that's pretty terrible! The roast-beef dip sandwich was good. The triple fried french fries were great. Maybe triple frying them is why they took so long! Jk We sent the burger back and the server was very kind about it. She took it off the bill and offered us a free carrot cake for dessert to-go. The bill was still very high priced for such average tasting food. Nearly $150 without tip. Yikes! We left disappointed. We went for our anniversary with the kids. We had high expectations having known of Chef Blaise since his Top Chef debut and all in all were satisfied with the food, service, and restaurant as a whole and would definitely recommend it. Here's what we had: Garlic croissants, complimentary and a nice shakeup to the usual dinner breads served elsewhere because they are light and won't fill you up before the real food comes. Couple of tasty cocktails, sorry can't recall the names but see the pics. The lobster crab noodles were very thick rich and al dente. The squash blossom lettuce wraps were tasty, the scallop crudo perfect, filet mignon perfect, summer squash was very heavily seasoned imo. The broccolini and whipped mash are well prepared. The kids salmon plate was dry and bland but maybe thats intentional but my kids didn't love it and neither did I. The most interesting thing we had was the caviar. It was prepared in a way I had never seen and it was quite interesting. As with any caviar dish, I wish there was more caviar! But we did like it as an interesting appetizer but probably would have preferred it better had it been made into bites versus a shareable sundae. In the end, we all agreed it was a very good meal, not exorbitantantly priced, and deserving of repeat visits. Enjoy! read more

The service was slow it took a while for our server to take our main course order so we decided to order another $25 drink but unfortunately the drink took a while as well that we almost forgot about it. We had reservations for 4:30 PM Friday night. Ended up sitting at the bar and had dinner there since dining room was very quiet and not a lot of people. Even though they said reservations were full, the restaurant was basically empty until seven or so and then was less than halfway full. And this was not due to social distancing as the bar seats were close to each other and wildly packed. Unfortunately the dining room looks a bit like a cruise ship dining room, like a diner. Not very interesting. However the bar was quite busy. And beautiful. Seats very close to each other however, a bit unsettling even though we are opening up. I guess we are used to sitting far from each other but they did not place to seats that way. Lots of outdoor seating. Overlooking the golf course. Bartenders were not very attentive. Took a while to get service. Did not wipe down the surfaces between customers. But they made amazing looking cocktails as I was watching. We ordered a bottle of French Rosé which was super. We also ordered cucumbers, bone marrow. For dinner had cream spinach, Cauliflower, char salmon. All very delicious. Food came out literally within a couple of minutes of placing the order. Very deliciously cooked and healthy options. A bit bland. But I guess that's the healthier approach, which I like. Menu quite expensive FYI. The bone marrow was unbelievable. One of my favorites. Cream spinach was not too heavy, very nice. Cauliflower was cooked amazingly, see the pictures. The charger salmon was perfectly cooked, very yummy. We also ordered espresso martinis but they do not have espresso so we just drink it with regular coffee which was interesting. Chopped salad with a delicious green goddess dressing. Overall very fun night. Good experience. Chef Richard Blaise came around and I got a picture with him which was special. Definitely will be back. Will try sitting outside. Very enjoyable. What with all of the great restaurants under Richard Blais' guidance, it was an easy decision to take Ember and Rye for a spin. The menu appeared to be solid with a nice venue to boot. Unfortunately, this one fell a little short of expectations. To start, the restaurant is not located at the hotel, but down at the clubhouse. My mistake for turning right instead of left down toward the lagoon. Not an issue since I've enjoyed the course in the past. Entering the restaurant, it had a rustic, yet modern style. The bar area looks great with a great view of the lagoon. After being seated promptly, the noise level was very significant, not too much of an issue, but not what was expected. If having a conversation with a dinner guest is important, you'll have to speak a little louder that usual. The server arrived and took the drink order within a reasonable time. Unfortunately, one of the drinks arrived quickly, the other arrived about 20 minutes later. After speaking with the server about some options, I went with the Oyster and Pearl dish, Hamachi Crudo and the Chicken Francese. The Hamachi arrived first and was excellent. It was accompanied with a great sauce and had a great presentation. The Oyster dish was a little bit of a let down. Although it was fresh, it seemed to have been prepared earlier in the evening and the nitrogen pearls did not accentuate the oysters. The pearls were on the sweeter side and while that might appeal to some, it was nothing like I expected. Savory and spicy are my jam when it comes to oysters. Unfortunately, they were neither. Great appearance, but . . . As a side note, the Croissants were exceptional. On the recommendation of the server, I went with the Chicken Francese. When it arrived, the portion was a bit of a surprise. It was huge entre which many would welcome. I could only finish a third of it. The entre was served with a heavy portion of sauce and while the lemon curd was noticed, there seemed to be no hint of a chili flavor. The dish was okay, but not something I would order again. I have been delighted by so many of Chef Blais' creations, and will continue to visit them. Unfortunately, some of the items were over-worked and not necessary. While everyone seems to be struggling a bit getting their support teams to full levels, Ember and Rye was full of staff, yet the service, though professional and polite, was a little delayed. I will be back and encourage others to visit, but I encourage you to ask questions and order appropriately based upon what you read from the menu and hear from the server. Overall, the rating that I've posted is pretty fair and hope that others who visit come away with a superior experience. read more

Beautiful looking new venue overlooking the golf course. Having the grill/smoker outside was a nice touch and visual experience. Our waiter was spectacular, attentive and very personable. There seems to be a few quirks they still need to work out since all my small bites, appetizers and main entree all came out at once without proper spacing to allow my wife and I to enjoy our meal at a proper interval without worrying about our food getting cold. Nonetheless, my rating is based on the food which was less than spectacular and quite honestly a big disappointment since I was a fan of Richard Blais when he first started Juniper and Ivy. The Oysters and Pearls were delicious and reminiscent of Juniper and Ivy but that is where the comparison ends. The hot scotch egg and and triple cooked fries were decent but nothing special. I actually liked the maple cream spread more than the egg and the kimchi ketchup for the fries had no distinct kimchi flavor. The ember baked potato had a nice gimmicky presentation when brought out but was lukewarm which didn't allow for the butter or cheese to melt on top of it. But it did have a nice smoky flavor. The Avocado Tostada was ok with the mixture of the mango looking yolk as was the complimentary garlic croissants which were truly buttery and flaky. The corn creme brûlée was my favorite of the small dishes. For my entree, I ordered the stripped steak which came out lukewarm. It was flavorful but for that price point I felt like I have had better. To end the night, we ordered Christophe's Apple Pie and Chocolate Mousse. They definitely did themselves right on the desserts. The Apple pie was really good and had a lot of Apple filling. The Rye Caramel sauce was a nice complement to the dish. The chocolate mouse was nice and rich and the passion fruit curd evened out the boldness of the chocolate! My best friend brought me here for my birthday lunch. It is a beautiful restaurant with outdoor seating overlooking the golf course and parts of Batiquitos lagoon. I have not been to Ember & Rye so this was a special treat for me. The menu selection is only so-so. Our waiter took our wine order but immediately said he didn't have the 'key' to the wine refrigerator. He was looking for a manager who might. He did come back after several minutes and the wine I wanted was in the locked wine refrigerator but he brought a wine he did have access to. Then we gave him our food order. Lots of time later, mine came and it was all wrong. I said maybe it's someone else's? Waited for another 20 minutes (all during this time we had not seen our waiter) and my meal arrives. Once again, it was wrong. As we waited for the third arrival we asked another server if they could get us some wine - as we had not seen our waiter. Finally, my order comes out. This time with our waiter apologizing profusely, stating the first order was for someone else, so sorry. Didn't explain why the second order was messed up. The restaurant had maybe 14 patrons in it. My friend's salad was okay and thankfully she added grilled shrimp to give it flavor. And it was 2 shrimps for $10.00. Prior to Ember and Rye it was the Argyle and we frequently came to it for happy hour, dinners and lunches without absolutely no problem. Great menu, service and prices. From word of mouth as well as recommendations from our friends, my boyfriend and I decided to celebrate our 5 year anniversary at Ember & Rye. We've been to Juniper & Ivy before, so we had some expectations of Richard Blaise's new restaurant, to which he describes it as "not-your-parents' country club-meets-modern steakhouse," which I agree to! SETTING: When we first arrived, the weather was perfect for a sunset dinner, and per our reservation request, we were seated outside overlooking both the Golf Course and the Lagoon. The staff was extremely attentive and welcoming, from the hostess to all the waiters and other staff members. FOOD/DRINK: Smoking Ember ($24.00): It was hard not to get this cocktail seeing the charmful Citrus Smoke Bubble that was placed on top! Besides the fun bubble pop, the cocktail itself was delightful - the combination of Grapefruit, Agave, Lemon and Lime were amazing with the Mezcal! Hefe Weissbier ($10.00): My boyfriend is a big beer fanatic so he went with this choice, and there were no complaints here! Garlic Croissants ($3.00): They give you a free complimentary Croissant per person, but you can also order additional. I can see why they give you the option to - these were AMAZING. It might be silly to be so enthused by a complimentary bread, but I'm a huge pastry/bread lover, and these were amazingly flaky and buttery! Beef Tartare ($26.00): This was by far our favorite item of the whole night, which is saying a lot considering the entrees we ordered! The meat is seasoned with a housemade version of Catalina dressing and served with a Fried Egg on the side. We tried a piece each without the Egg and thought it was the best we've ever had - take two with the addition of the Egg and it was beyond our expectations! Corn Creme Brulee ($7.00): Beautiful caramelized top as Creme Brulees are known to have, but the contents are a savory sweet cream instead of your dessert version. I don't think I tasted too much corn here, but it was tasty regardless. Arctic Char Flambadou ($47.00): I'm no stranger to "XO" Sauce as it's used in a Dim Sum dish that I get almost every time, and Ember & Rye's version is very much similar, with some additional herbs and seasonings that liven it up just a bit. I love "XO" Sauce, and thought it was a great accompaniment to the delicious buttery Arctic Char. No part of the fish was dry in any way. Strip Steak ($55.00): Dry Aged for 14 Days, which you can tell from the tenderness of the meat. Celebrated my 30th birthday at the restaurant with 7 other friends. Restaurant is beautiful and overlooks the lagoon. Unfortunately our waitress was super busy and not as attentive with our table as you would think for how much you pay to dine here. Not sure if management is aware of how understaffed they are for quality service. We were impressed with the food. I ordered the flat iron steak and my husband ordered the bone-in beef short rib. We also ordered Chinese broccoli and sweet potato to share. The sweet potato was the highlight of the night! It was sweet and savory, hit the spot and have never had anything taste like that. Cocktails were awesome and delicious. My husband ordered the Not too Old Fashioned with the Wagyu jerky and loved it! Desserts were incredible too. I ordered the cheese cake and my friend ordered the monkey bread. Both delicious! We were excited to try the new Richard Blais restaurant in North County, which is a stones throw from where we live. The decor is lovely and the staff was friendly and thorough explaining the menu. The food however, felt like a complete miss. Here's what we ordered: Oysters and Pearl - what a disaster. The "pearls" tasted like hard pieces of candy that were accompanied on top of the 3 oysters that lacked in flavor. My husband loved his Thor's hammer steak and my bacon wrapped filet was good (the best thing so far). The sides - oh boy, here we go again trying to make what could be very simple feel like a science experiment. The creamed spinach felt like I was eating raw spinach. Dare I say it tasted too healthy. Where's the butter? The corn creme brûlée's texture was that of a sauce than of a side dish. It was so thinned out I could have use a straw to drink it. The onion rings however were very good. Our daughter ordered the kids burger and her bun looked so dense and dry. Where is the finesse that sets this restaurant above all else? How about a toasted brioche bun? She's a kid but she has taste buds. For dessert we ordered the apple pie for $16. I'll never see that money again. It was tough to cut through, cold, deflated my hopes of ending the night with a bang. There was nothing special about it, no wow factor. That's how I felt about my food overall. Worth the try: probably everything, all the dishes were so creative and delicious that we wish we could have ordered the whole menu then and there. We'll be back for sure! Tip: Make reservations ahead of time! Sit outside by the grill if you can, it's quite the setup, and the smell of the meat cooking is mouthwatering. We went during the nighttime, but Carlsbad and the nearby scenery are so gorgeous, the daytime would be an absolutely perfect time to go. What we got: Smoking Ember, The King & Rye, garlic croissant, hot scotch egg, avocado tostada, corn creme brulee, onion rings, arctic char flambadou, strip steak Smoking Ember: an Instagram-worthy cocktail with its citrus smoke bubble. Loved the fruity flavors mixed with the smoky mezcal in this drink. The King & Rye: a take on the Arnold Palmer and Whiskey Sour with delicious flavors of whiskey, lemon, and earl grey tea. Garlic Croissant: one complimentary croissant per person, so buttery and flaky with just the right amount of subtle garlic flavor. I couldn't stop thinking about it even after I got back home. I wish I could pick up a dozen of these for myself. Hot Scotch Egg: a nice soft boiled egg in a meat x bread crumb coating, what gets me is the maple-flavored spread it comes with. It's light, fluffy, and not too sweet. What a pairing. Avocado Tostada: tuna tartare on a tostada with a MANGO yolk. They completely fooled me, the mango was so creamy I thought it was egg yolk as I was cutting into it. The mango adds such a bright, lovely flavor to this dish. Corn Creme Brulee: a lovely take on creamed corn, slightly sweet with a gorgeous caramelized top. Onion Rings: onions in a beer and vodka batter, so good it supposedly can last a 2-hour car ride and still be crispy. Pretty good and no surprises here. It is what it is, nice, crispy onion rings! Arctic Char Flambadou: fish in "XO" sauce -- whatever is in that sauce, it's amazing. We kept telling the servers not to take the plate away because we weren't done with the sauce. Strip Steak: beef, dry-aged 14 days. Cheesy flavor notes. Also, to no surprise, delicious. My friends and I have been waiting for this restaurant opening for a while, and we were glad to finally try it out! We were amazed by Richard Blais' (Juniper & Ivy, The Crack Shack) new concept and had such a great time. Parking and service were no problem. This is a restaurant that can survive because it has a view, but the reliability of their food is very weak. They claim to be a "meat" place but their chefs have no clue how to even cook a basic hamburger. My wife ordered her burger medium well. It came out medium rare at best. We showed it to the server and they could see it was not cooked right so they took it back. It was returned but all they did was put the side of the cut burger on the grill to give the edge the appearance of being cooked. Fail! Again, showed the manager. He agreed it was terrible but by that time we were so frustrated by the terrible experience we were done with this place. The manager had no explaination as to how a meat place can't cook a simple burger even if given two chances. If you must go there, just get a cocktail. Save yourself the aggravation. I see others have gotten food poisoning here and I'm not surprised. Third rate and Hyatt should take some action. read more

Typical Blaise restaurant located in the nice hotel, had 7:09 reservations and still had to wait 15" for our table, no big deal. Had the oysters and pearls appetizers beet salad. Strip steak good, lobster good had sides of spinach, sweet potatoes, hassle back potatoes and asparagus- all good. Service was friendly and attentive. The food at Ember and Rye is amazing. Fresh seasonal specials are always creative and unique. You don't find selections like this elsewhere. The salmon and swordfish are favorites. The service is outstanding. Every one is friendly and welcoming. This is definitely a high end restaurant but the staff creates a friendly relaxed atmosphere. During the summer sitting out on the patio is heavenly. We usually sit in the bar and order food there instead of going into the restaurant. It's a very intimate and friendly place. The bartenders are exceptional. The drinks are excellent. Definitely our favorite restaurant and bar. read more

I came here because it's Richard Blais' restaurant. Overall experience was top notch service with mouth watering upscale golf course food. Must get: squash blossom, avocado tostada, corn Creme Brulee and of course a steak of your choice. The house bread is homemade garlic croissants which has pocket of airy layers with a crispy outer exterior. You only get one per person so don't expect to get another round unless you want to pay $3 per piece. In the snack bar section we ordered spicy cucumbers and squash blossom. The cucumbers were fresh with a slight kick, but the squash blossoms were the winner. It wasn't oily and the cheese stuffed inside held well to the fry. In salads and such we opted for the avocado tostada. The avocado prevented the tortilla from getting saturated from the tuna and the mango purée yolk helped bring the dish together. Our entree selections were the Dungeness crab bucatini, boneless ribeye and the burger. Don't be fooled by the pasta because it had a ton of fresh crab! I shared amongst two other people and we all got a fair share of crab. The burger was juicy, thin cut onions and sweet pickles. I am always weary about thick cut fries for how soggy and dry they can be, but of course these didn't lack in crunch paired with a sweet kimchi ketchup. Boneless ribeye was the favorite out of all the entrees. Cooked and seasoned well with the right amount of salt and sear. Our vegetables were the corn creme Brulee, sherry glazed mushrooms and crispy onion blossom. Honestly the corn Creme brûlee was a exactly what it sounds like. It's basically a savory Creme brûlée that can honestly be on the dessert menu. It was like sweet corn tomalito, but with a smoother texture. The mushrooms were so simple, yet complimented our steak well. The crispy onion blossom was coated lightly and just like the squash blossom wasn't absorbed with oil. Always save room for dessert! We got the apple pie and coffee crunch Bundt cake. The apple pie was massive and can be shared with two or three people. It was stacked high with thick pieces of apples and phylloigh dough crust topped with crush almonds. The whiskey caramel sauce by itself is when you can really taste the whiskey, but when added to the pie and ice cream it helped balance out the rich flavor of sweetness. The coffee crunch bundt cake is the dessert that lacked for me because the coffee flavor wasn't prominent. The vanilla cake was moist and fluffy, but add more honey comb because that was so good!
