We went for Valentines dinner. It had a set menu so limited choices. We were sat right away and the initial offerings and service were great. After our appetizer came we sat and waited and waited for our entree. When they came my wife's crab and lobster bucatini was luke warm and the lobster was chewy and over cooked. My entree of a tiger shrimp and filet were delivered completely cold. After a while we flagged down a server and sent back my plate. They exchanged the food and my steak was very good but the shrimp was over cooked. Dessert was a big disappointment. Not much taste and very bland. I've been waiting to try this restaurant but it was expensive for a lackluster meal. We never the mgr but they comped two drinks. My husband recently brought me here to have a special dinner before I was having a major surgery. It was not only one of the best meals we've ever had, but our service was incredible. Jenna took care of us from start to finish making every part of the meal special memorable and meaningful since we had such a large life thing happening in the future I recommend going to this place cause you get to pick your own steak knife for one. Ember & Rye is the best modern Steakhouse in San Diego my wife and I have been to. Beautiful scenery and ambiance as the restaurant sits on the 18th hole of the Aviara golf course. We had impeccable service from Erica and the assistants from beginning to end. We were quit hungry so she recommended the squash blossom lettuce wraps, the shrimp cocktail and the ahi tuna tostada. Absolutely phenomenal. Very well prepared and portioned. For entrees my wife ordered the Filet mignon. It came out at the perfect temperature and was very tender with a nice flavorful crust. I ordered the Japanese A5 Wagyu New York Steak and boy what a treat. Definitely A5 quality. The well marbled cut was trimmed and cooked to perfection. Was in the area and wanted to have a nice celebration dinner! The restaurant is beautiful and wasn't too crowded. Opted for an assortment of appetizers, drinks and food. Everything was good, nothing was really amazing for the price. Portions were bigger than I expected so we had a lot of leftovers. The pearl oysters were good, the truffle crab sushi was good, the strip steak was good, the Cesar salad was good, the best thing we had was the eggplant Parmesan with burrata. The roasted cauliflower could have used a bit more sauce and seasonings. The garlic croissants are amazing and a nice way to start the meal. The not so old fashion drink had a nice presentation. We recently had a family birthday lunch At Ember and Rye. It's not my first time to Ember and Rye, but I'm always surprised how easy it is to leave the stresses of life behind as you are enveloped by the gorgeous setting and the care oriented staff. This time we again had excellent service from Noah and Manjolla. The food is amazing from the beet salad and calamari to the S'mores. I had a perfectly grilled filet and was able to sample the blacked salmon and swordfish thanks to family generosity. Everything was exceptional including the wine and the crazy good cocktails. I wanted to love it because I'm a big fan of Richard Blais. But if I'm being truthful the meal was just ok. Let's break it down: -Garlic croissant (free) - was delicious. It was very garlicky but I know that's not for everyone. -Strip steak only came with steak and a lot of oil on the plate. Overly salty but cooked ok. This cut wasn't as tender. Chimchurri was decent as a topping but it was an additional fee. So was the horseradish. -Crab cakes had bits of corn, were ok, slightly fishy. -Caesar salad of sorts - name made it intriguing to figure out what was so special. Made with nuoc mam instead of anchovies. But let me tell you nuoc mam is made of anchovies so not really special or different. And it oddly had artichoke bits in there. It was lacking the real punch or depth of real anchovies. Pass on this. -Cedar plank salmon- others enjoyed their salmon but when I had a portion it tasted pretty bland to me. -crispy potatoes was the best side and was crispy as advertised. -tuna tartare nothing special but the turn off was the coconut bits on top made the whole thing taste weird. I'm a senior citizen and made a 5:30 PM reservation for two at Ember and Rye, for Valentine's Day dinner, ten days beforehand. On February 13th, I received a text stating their exorbitant Valentine's Day cost and asking if I still wanted the 5:30 PM reservation. Since it was too late to make a reservation elsewhere, I responded "yes", that I still wanted the reservation, and they confirmed. When we arrived, the hostess had no record of our reservation and would have turned us away, but I showed them the confirmation text. They seated us in the bar instead of the main dining room. Since they seem to treat seniors like second class citizens, and since they don't seem to have their act together, we won't be going back to Ember and Rye. read more

Was a five star before the fire but now it reopened and it's definitely lost alot of luster from its past. It's still beautiful but the food foremost has gone downhill. These pictures attached are just of what I could get without being obnoxious, but rest assured it was all quite tasty. The table had: garlic croissants, squash blossoms, sausage stuffed dates, the 1/2 chicken, filet, salmon, halibut, potato purée, mushrooms, asparagus, bottle service, chocolate mousse, and three surprise mini sundaes for the three occasions we were celebrating. (Not expected but very appreciated. We were even served some complimentary bubbles upon seating. How nice!) Our tab came to $466 before tip. (To say the service was impeccable would be an understatement, and I hope the tip conveyed as much.) One silly thing I'll share, the playlist!!! I FREAKING LOVED IT SO HARD!!! It sounded like one group of people singing their own renditions of songs most people should know, but in a completely different style appropriate for the venue. Food was not good, very pricey, service was good. Came here for dinner one night and ordered a few items to share. The bone marrow appetizer was very unique and tasty. However the entrees were both not good. Got the burger and that was very over cooked, the bun was very dry. The only thing I liked were the fried, sad for a steakhouse. The ribeye steak was pretty bad, you can see on the photo that it's a terrible cut, and full of strings and when you try to eat it, it's impossible to chew. The quality of meat is really bad. The only thing we liked were the 2 sides: carrots and the mushrooms. The main courses we got were all bad. The ambience is nice, service was nice. Bathrooms are clean. 4.5 The price tag is steep, but for special occasions, Ember & Rye is wonderful. Outside looks like the standard hotel / golf club check in. Inside is an inviting, sophisticated but comfortable dining hall. The bar sits behind the hostess and you get an expansive view of Batiquitos as soon as you walk in. There are a couple of dining areas with ample seating for intimate or large groups. We were near the service table and it was still very quiet. Onto the food: Thor's Hammer steak - 5/5 perfectly charred and cooked to specified temperature. Dry aged and seasoned but the meat shines. We split this, as it's definitely good enough for 2-3 people. Asparagus - 2/5 bland, even the capers barely had any flavor pops. The vinaigrette was really subdued and the asparagus was bland. Potato puree - 5/5 silky smooth and creamy. Pair that with anything and it would elevate it. Wedge salad - 4/5 chilled forks are a nice touch and the dressing and cheese aren't overpowering. Dressing was a bit runny. Garlic croissant - 4/5 flaky with subtle hints of garlic. These are complimentary! Apple pie - 4/5. they warned us it was large, and it is. The crust is wonderful and the sauce adds a nice sweetness to the tang of the apples. The only downside was the vanilla ice cream tasted more icy than creamy. Drinks: - complimentary rosé for our anniversary. Great touch to start the meal. - smoking ember - very IG worthy with the smoke bubble, but quite tasty - "not too" old fashioned - stiff, but balanced. I didn't taste the "infused" wagyu flavor Overall, solid solid restaurant. The staff is personable, yet they give you space to enjoy your meal. It's not an everyday place, but if you have something to celebrate you should definitely dine here. read more

Located in the Aviara Golf Club, this restaurant gives off modern, classy brunch vibes. The bill was pretty steep, considering this was for brunch, but the service and the food quality/taste were pretty high. We made a reservation since our party was larger but there was only one party already seated inside when we arrived. Not sure if they ever fill up and we didn't see the restaurant get busy at all during our time. When we arrived and all the way to the end, the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Ahi Tuna and Avocado Tostada: This comes as a highly recommended appetizer by the staff and friends. It's a little tough to share because the tuna and avocado are loaded onto one tostada. We tried our best to split it into 4 even pieces but the tostada just shattered. Nonetheless, everyone got to try an even share and it was really good. It was like eating poke from Hawaii, the tuna was fresh, avocado creamy. Crispy Onion Blossom: Another appetizer to share and it was good but no better than Outback Steakhouse so it didn't feel worth paying the premium price. The bottom didn't feel as cooked through as I would've liked and it was still very crunchy and had that burn of raw onions. Super California Burrito: This was my favorite because of the steak filet. The quality of the beef was amazing and I've never had something this good in a burrito. Super tender meat cut into large chunks. Highly recommend! Comes with a side of their triple cooked fries and kimchi ketchup (it tasted different but I couldn't taste kimchi). Mishima Ranch Wagyu Beef Burger: Another highly recommended dish by staff and friends. I usually can't tell the difference between wagyu and a regular beef patty and this time was no different. It was a good burger, don't get me wrong, but I really couldn't tell the difference and feel like I've had the same quality burger but with a normal beef patty. Sherry Glazed Mushrooms: Available as a side. I originally ordered this but the waitress misheard me as asking for mushrooms in the burger. They ended up bringing it out immediately and removed it from the bill! But these mushrooms are amazing. Small mushrooms, completely whole...just the right size for bite-size. It's a little salty so I had to eat other stuff in between but I would get it again. The King and Rye: I thought this was going to be a normal sized cocktail, even though it was kind of expensive. I figured it was just because of the classy brunch vibe but they brought it out in a giant goblet. Decently strong and delicious, I ordered this for the unique tea flavor with egg whites. I had one of their signature cocktails, the Palmer Peach and it was perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The garlic croissant was good, but the steak and sides were top tier! The steak was cooked perfectly, full of flavor with a nice crust on both sides. I ordered the potato puree and corn crème brûlée and they were excellent! The corn crème brûlée was very unique and it paired well with the steak. The portions and quality for the price point are incredible. This place is delicious! It's so cute, small, and perfect that I almost wanted to not share this secret, but we don't gatekeep here on Yelp. We must give credit where it's due. Upon arriving, you have to expect a wait, which is a great sign. This place is busy on a weekend morning, but for good reason. The people at the door were pleasant we got seated fairly quickly for being a Saturday morning. The food was just a chef's kiss! Everything we ordered was superb, and I left with a huge smile on my face. I love finding hole-in-the-wall places that are 5/5 stars. We also ordered the apple pie and carrot cake which were both delicious as well! Overall I'm glad I came here and will come back if I'm in the area! I have two complaints: it was quite dark when I got there and they couldn't adjust the lightning due to electoral issues but it eventually got brighter which was MUCH better. And TWO... Drinks and food came out quickly and we did not wait very long for any dishes. Drink selection was fun and unique. We had the popular ember smoked ember drink made with mezcal which was very good. We moved onto their red wine given their decent selection of cabs. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was the main course. For being a restaurant that specializes in steak I was disappointed with the ribeye. It was really tough and chewy.
