We stayed at the resort for my birthday weekend so my boyfriend had made a reservation at Ember & Rye for my birthday dinner and WOW this meal was one of our favorite memories of the trip. The service, food and environment were all perfect. While I cannot remember our servers name, he made us feel so comfortable and was attentive during the entire meal. For the food, here's what we ordered: Ahi Tuna Tostada $24 Ingredients: Avocado, Thai Chili, Toasted Coconut, Pickled Shallot, Cilantro, Mango-Yuzu Yolk I was really excited to try this due to the mango-yuzu yolk that they had made and I was so impressed how they turned the puree into a yolk texture. The tuna was really fresh as well. Rigatoni Bolognese $34 Ingredients: Duck Confit, Burrata, Herb Bread Crumbs, Parmesan If there's something about me, it's that I love rigatoni and anything duck related. When the server had shared that there was duck confit in the bolognese, I immediately knew we had to order it Boneless Ribeye $88 16oz, Flannery Beef, Dry Aged 14 Days This was one of the BEST steaks I have ever had. You can also see them grill it outside if you'd like to watch your food be made. I thought this was really special. I highly recommend their steaks! J.R. Went to Carlsbad over the weekend for my husband's birthday. Found this place on yelp for his birthday dinner. The food was amazing. My pictures do not do it justice. The service very well done. Our server was very attentive to our party of seven. it's a very nice place Overlooking a golf course. Very upscale. The food was amazing. I give them 3/12-4 stars at most. The service is great! But the food over the past 3 yrs we have been coming has been declining.... Not sure what's going on with the restaurant, but, the first time we loved it! Like I said, the quality of food has been declining over the yrs... Food: * croissants-they bring you complementary starter of croissants. Amazing buttery, flaky goodness. (Had a bit since I can't really eat gluten foods). * gluten free bun- actually pretty good! Not the best but not the worst gluten free bun. * NY steaks - very tasty! * Swordfish Prime Rib- great piece of fish, but poorly executed.., all I tasted was butter and garlic. Totally missed a great piece of fish! Usually restaurants will over cook this meaty piece of fish. Here it's very juicy, but, it lacks flavor and they missed how great this piece of fish could have been with a different approach. * Fresh fries- perfectly cooked (maybe a bit salty..). But it was great French fries! * Hamachi Crudo - Cudo was ok.., didn't care for the finish profile of coconut at the end of my bit, didn't seem to mix well, left kind of a weird after taste. Coconut can either make it or break it since the taste isn't a settle flavor. The sashimi wasn't the best tasty fish either. * Ahi Tuna Tostada- it was ok. Just didn't wowed me. Dessert- * some sort of lemon custard like yoghurt dessert. Kind of reminds of Panna Cotte. I thought the food was just mediocre for such a high priced dining experience. The ambience was clean and casual, nothing fancy, their new reno after the fire was more of a chill, Californian, more of an upscale diner vibe. Would I come back again, probably not. Sad to say, since we stay at Park Hyatt and we go here whenever we stay at the hotel, very convenient. Also, not sure if it was right after the New Yr, but the place was dead. 4/5 Took my husband to Park Hyatt Aviara Golf Club for Father's Day and made a reservation at Ember & Rye right after his round. The setting is beautiful and perfect for a post-golf celebration--elegant, relaxed, and with great views. We started with the tuna tostada, which was fresh and flavorful (solid 8/10), and oysters, which were good but didn't quite wow us (7/10). We both ordered the boneless ribeye with mashed potato purée--and wow, the steaks were cooked to perfection. Juicy, tender, and seasoned just right. My husband even said that's the best steak he's had by far and he's very picky with his steaks! Now, the only downside: we waited nearly two hours for our entrées. It was definitely a long stretch, especially after a full day of golf. That said, our server handled it with grace, checking in often and offering us complimentary appetizers and drinks to help make up for the delay, which we really appreciated. Overall, we had a great experience, and the food (once it arrived) was fantastic. A beautiful experience with a visit from Chef Richard Blais himself! Made a reservation for a party of three, my husband and I took his mom out for her bday. Restaurant was easy to find with plentiful parking. Walking in, it feels so luxurious and upscale and there's a beautiful view of the golf course and lagoon. We were checked in and taken to our seat immediately. Our server, Alex was INCREDIBLE! He made the experience so personable and he was so attentive throughout our dinner. The croissants?!? HELLO? To die for! I'll take ten. We started with the beef tartare, banh mi meatballs, and the caesar. All three were extremely flavorful and unique. Would recommend any or all of those options! For main entrees we shared the crab & lobster bucatini and the boneless ribeye. The pasta was DEEEEELISH. The ribeye was heavenly as well. Buttery, tender, juicy, & rich. 100/10! For sides we ordered the fingerling potatoes, creamed spinach, and broccolini. The first two were okay, lots of flavor but I'm not a personal fan of the texture of creamed spinach. But the broccolini was incredible! Overall, the experience was fantastic between the food and the service! It was so cool to have Chef Blais come out and chat with us. It's not often that the chef comes out and chats with guests, let alone a celebrity chef! That was such a cool moment that we will always remember. My wife ordered the salmon and the puréed potatoes. I ordered the boneless aged ribeye and the beet salad. Both were outstanding....But that was about the food. Let me tell you about the experience. I do very well in life, all praise to God, and I eat at the best steakhouses wherever I go. Coast to coast and Europe. I've been to all the so-called "best rated/reviewed" steakhouses, that have the best variety of steaks and other goodies. That have the best reputations and the fanciest decor and all that fluff and stuff. But NONE are operationally perfect with their kitchen execution. Every single steakhouse I've been to there's always one slip up somewhere... And, I'm very picky on the way I like my steak. I like Pittsburgh "plus" generally. I ordered a boneless ribeye from Ember and Rye, and it came out medium unfortunately. I wasn't very happy since my wife's salmon came out perfect and she was able to be an eating and I wasn't. But! In life I'm not about mistakes, it's all about the recovery from them. The second steak was brought out and let me tell you, it might've been the best Pittsburgh plus steak I've ever had in my life. Also, they cooked these steaks on a true Santa Maria grill. If you're not familiar with that style of cooking over embers, often times that style grilling does not get the best sear. Even though it gets a good cook throughout the steak, I like a nice char as well. This Chef was absolutely perfect on the second steak. Charred perfectly and the inside was warm red. Not overly medium. Absolutely perfect steak. So when you go out of town and you're going out to dinner for a nice steak and you have expectations that are high. Every once in a while, you'll get a disappointment. And it's not so much about that as it is about the recovery of the restaurant. And then the customer service that follows. They actually took my steak off of my bill. I did not expect that. And they didn't have to do that. Yes it is an inconvenience when you're not eating your entrée at the same time as your table guests are, but I thought it was a very smart and generous move on the restaurants part. Obviously, I gave the the waitress a bigger tip because I was very impressed with her customer service throughout the experience. Not to mention, we had our 11 month old son with us who was probably a little noisier then they were used to at that time of the night. But definitely go to this place. Food was fine, but execution wasn't great, which is not really acceptable considering the price. Some interesting ideas, and a lot of good, but they just whiffed on the details that would elevate this restaurant above other typical "upscale" hotel restaurants. 3 stars is too low, 4 too high, but I'm rounding up because the FOH staff were all amazing. My wife and I ordered the beef tartare and beet salad for starters, followed by the beef and broccoli (med rare) for me, and the hanger steak (rare) with the corn creme brule as a side for my wife. We were with a group who also ordered a variety sides: fries, grilled chickories, potato puree, and the pineapple maple bacon. The starters were all solid. The beef tartare was good, chips served with it were tasty. Beet salad wasn't bad, but the peppermint flavor was a little off putting. It has mint listed as an ingredient, it just didn't taste fresh, tasted more like an extract. Our party got the buratta and caviar dip, both were good. My expectations of the mains were tempered a bit by the reviews, and while the food wasn't bad, it was just not up to the standards demanded by the price (or the name attached to it). For me, my steak wasn't cooked to temp. It was barely rare, and was fairly cool when it arrived at our table. Considering it was already sliced and I don't mind rare beef, I didn't send it back to be warmed, but it was disappointing. It was also over salted, not to the point where I was chugging water (friend of ours got the swordfish and said it was way too salty), but definitely on the salty side. Again, while these aren't major misgivings (missing temp happens in a busy restaurant), when you're paying almost 60 for an 8oz cut and some broccoli and brussel sprouts you expect things to be executed well. Shame since the flavors were there, and I'll definitely be borrowing inspiration for a meal at home. The sides were fine, potato puree was a little too loose for my preference, fries and ketchup were good, and the bacon was tasty but a little too sweet (it's also basically a huge piece of pork belly). We were meh on the corn creme brule. Fun idea, but it would be better if it celebrated the taste and texture of corn more, it was basically a corn flavored custard which was a little disappointing. Loved the grilled chickories though. The desserts were nice, table didn't like the S'mores cake, but I thought it was well balanced, and we loved the yuzu pot de creme. The biggest negative for me was the "Not Too" Old Fashioned. Honestly tasted, and looked, like a mixer from a local dive bar: high ball glass of crushed ice with eyeballed measurements, a cherry on a spear and badly peeled orange zest. I was honestly fairly annoyed I paid $23 for that garbage. FWIW, the rest of the party enjoyed their drinks. Service was great and attentive, ambiance is about what you would expect for the area and the fact it's attached to a hotel/golf club. Overall we had a good time with friends, but the food just didn't live up to the hype, especially considering the price. Better attention to detail from the kitchen and bar staff and I think it could be a winner. read more

I really want to highlight the service here. You can dress down and still feel like you're royalty (after all, this is within the property of a five star hotel). My server Erika was incredibly patient as we were busy with feeding and settling down a baby right when we arrived and she still showed up to see if we were ready or had questions even though I'm sure she could tell we weren't ready to order whatsoever so I appreciate her for still checking in on us. The young lady who refilled our water was also great and attentive. It's a nice fine dining experience without the pressure of trying to be bougie. We had the veal chop which was delicious, and the salmon which I don't think I'd order again but that's not to say it was bad, I'm just not a cooked salmon person (I just wanted to try a good chef's salmon bc i can never cook it right myself). At the end, Erika gave us a complimentary anniversary dessert. If I'm ever saying at Park Hyatt Aviara again, I'd eat here again just bc of the service--I really liked the atmosphere. read more

We stayed at the Park Hyatt and took a shuttle down for lunch with a golf course view. The service was disjointed between the initial helper who poured us water, and took quite awhile for our server to come and get our drink order. We already knew what we wanted on the menu so we made sure to put those in as well as we didn't know when Noah would return. The order screen is behind our booth, and there were definitely mumblings and grumblings among the servers and bartenders over communication issues that I did not want to overhear, so I tried to tune it out. After 15 minutes, I finally had to verbalize politely (with Noah's ears in earshot) to my tablemate why my Prosecco (not a cocktail that has to be made) was not here yet. Voila, 2 min later, the poured Prosecco appeared. We ordered 2 "Ceasar salad of sorts" with salmon add on for $64. I know how much romaine costs and you're definitely paying for the view and their overhead. I read about garlic croissants but I guess they don't offer them for lunch... but I probably wouldn't want to bite into cold buttered ones! I doubt I'll return here but wanted to alert local diners of the deficiencies and lack of genuine attentiveness. Three tiny meatballs for $18 is hard to justify, especially when the portion was barely more than a bite each. The $24 cocktail only added to the disappointment. High-end pricing should come with substance, balance, and value. What I got instead were cat-food-sized portions at luxury prices. What makes it truly baffling is that the restaurant wasn't even busy--there was practically no one there. Yet, after placing our order, we sat at an empty table waiting for a full hour. No updates, no apologies, and absolutely no sign of our food. When we finally flagged down the staff to see what was going on, we found out that they haven't even started our order yet. At this point, we completely lost our patience, so we got up and left. If a restaurant can't manage its kitchen when it's empty on a major holiday, they have serious operational issues. But didn't really think of it much of this. .Not busy so the Svc of checking in was disjointed ! The ambiance of the place is ok but dated. Ok here is the problem. New orders the first appetizer! Well took a bite of the meat balls it was just simple " bad bad gamy chewy off " then the eggplant was so greasy and tough. Like it was prepared yesterday. Not fresh. We didn't order and decided if the basic were this bad then wha t will the rest will be like. Manager came over and we decided to leave. We are all over 60 years old and never ever walked out on a meal. Terrible. So I left a generous tip and went on a better reviewed yelp establishment. Then we heard about the fire and it being closed. We really felt bad w the wait staff. Seems like they attended to us but repeated stuff ,,, it had two servers. Something was off. We celebrated our anniversary here and had a great time. We split the banh mi meatballs, the Denver steak with chimichuri, and the potato puree. The meatballs were definitely the highlight of the evening and very flavorful. The Denver steak was very tender but perhaps a bit too heavy for my tastes but my husband thoroughly enjoyed it. The garlic croissant was delightful and the potatoes were so silky. Because it was our anniversary they treated us to both a prosecco toast and a small sweet at the end which was so kind. We brought a bottle of wine, and the corkage fee was $40. For the appetizer, we ordered the shrimp cocktail, which was delicious and came with three jumbo shrimp. For the main course, I had the Denver steak paired with potato purée and Brussels sprouts--both absolutely amazing. For dessert, I tried the vanilla bean cheesecake. It was very good, though it came with a raspberry-like sauce on top, which I would have preferred to skip. The ambience is delightful, and the service is outstanding. It was a classic case of excitement from online menus that ended up falling way short. We were visiting from out of state. Super excited to try this place given the idealist behind the restaurant. Parking was easy, hostess was awesome, service was great. Sadly food fell way short. It was kind of one of those trying to do too much when simple would do. We opted for the epic tower. Figured that would be quite a bit of food, and it was. From top down, oysters first. The ice topping they had on it was just way too much. Basically the entire shell was filled with a shaved ice of sort with a tiny oyster at the bottom. Could not even taste any oyster if we're being honest. 1 out of 10 for sure on this. Squash blossom lettuce wrap. Cool idea, dry throughout, not a bit of seasoning in it. 5/10. Wagyu beef skewer, tender, but very bland. 5/10 but purely because the meat was tender and not dry. Shrimp cocktail, I would say 10/10. Huge shrimp, weird though, one of them almost seemed frozen? Ahi Toscana, probably the highlight of the meal. Fresh, tasty, cool gastronomy. 10/10 Child meal was salmon and potatoes. Not gonna lie it kind of frustrates me when they just give the kids the scraps. It was definitely the tail trim from the loin. But frankly it was cooked decent. 7/10 Pear and beet salad. 9/10. Fresh and nice dressing. Wife enjoyed it. Beef cheeks. This is where it gets weird. There was just way too much going on. Beef cheek was nice. Carrots were still raw in the center, mushrooms were gross like they were just soaked in water with zero and I mean zero seasoning. There was some sort of cooked green under that was just not good. 5/10 Grilled cabbage, all kinds of flavors going on there.
