Converted my garage into a bedroom and hired EMCO Tech to install a Carrier Infinity minisplit. They did an excellent job. They came three separate times. First visit they ran all the wiring, lines and drain before drywall -- and didn't even take a deposit. Second time they installed both units and protected the indoor unit with plastic and cardboard so the painters wouldn't damage it. They took half the payment then. Final visit, after painting was done, they finished everything, started the system up, and I paid the rest. The same two guys -- Leo and Alex -- did all three visits. They were super professional and respectful. They always parked on the street instead of my driveway, wore shoe covers, and were very careful with my dog. Our boiler broke down in March 2016. We contacted several companies for quotes. EMCO Tech came in with the lowest price--nearly half the quote from another, well-reviewed local company. I was skeptical. Also, I was wary of the one-star reviews below. When I spoke to the company's owner, Serge, he offered an honest assessment of the negative reviews, admitting growing pains and lessons learned. I trusted him. He also offered all the relevant details about the boiler installation, including the specific make and model of the boiler. After researching the specific boiler, I felt confident choosing EMCO for the installation. The team installed the boiler within a week over two days. They returned several times to make sure the installation was a success. As most experts will tell you: A new boiler will inevitably have an issue or two. Our boiler had no real issues, and we've been happy since installation. Everything works great. We were literally assigned this company as a second opinion for a cracked heat heat exchanger based on defining from a very reputable company, Morvents who Provided borescope images showing an inch crack, that I guarantee you any other HVAC company would insist was incredibly dangerous. However, EMCO not only refused to examine the heat exchanger, they quite incorrectly claimed there was no way our heat exchanger had a crack, could not even be photographed, they insisted our furnace was safe to use. Not only do I have a video documentation of this but I also recorded them ignoring the risks we were told could result in death, them telling us to call 911 and refusing to wear a mask face mask, even after I Recorded them refusing to do so! If you care at all about the safety of your family do not depend on this company at all to service or inspect your furnace, or I can assure you, you are putting your family at risk. Came back home to Philly to visit my sister and her new baby (my first Nephew) and something was smelling like plastic was burning. It was invading the house. We finally figured out it was coming from the heat vents. We shut the furnace off immediately and called for help. Another company that we called came out and said it was just the filter that needed to be changed. My sister paid him $87 to change the filter and within the hour of him leaving the house was smelling like burnt plastic again. We didnt even bother to call them back to redo the work. This was too serious to play around with. This time we found EMC online and they came right out, no wait time. The tech said it was the furnace motor burning. It was damaged from years of lack of proper maintenance. He replaced the motor that day and no more burnt odor or fire scare. Came out same day to fix our furnace. It was coming on for about a minute and going right back off. I am not the guy who knows this type of stuff nor do I want to know. I am more into fixing me than ac repair or furnace repair but what I do know is these guys were really good. They set an appointment time for 4 pm on the same day that I called and they kept that time. They called when they were in route and they told me that they were able to fix the problem that day. I did not have to wait (and freeze while I waited) for parts to be ordered or to come in. They had what ever it was they needed on that big van they were in and the best part is that I did not get a speck of dirt on me cause I went know where near that big mean furnace. This company was HORRIBLE! Do not let them in your house! I got stuck with these clowns thanks to my home warranty company. My furnace stopped working in the dead of winter so I called the warranty company and they sent out these guys. They showed up to my house 2 hours late, claimed to have fixed the problem but within a few hours my heat would stop working again. This happened twice in a row. The 3rd time they came out - around noon-ish which seemed to be their standard time to start the work day - they determined I needed a new boiler. Then they told me it would take 2-3 days to get a new boiler. At this point we had been without heat, in the middle of January, for 5 days but what choice did we have. So they order the boiler and said they'd be back in a few days to install it. A couple days later they show up - at around 11:30am - to remove the old boiler. Around the same time the new boiler gets delivered and they just leave it sitting in a snow bank out in front of my house all day. At around 5pm they inform us that the new boiler is "damaged" and they have to get a new one. The truth is the new boiler is too big to fit down my basement steps because they never bothered to take any measurements before they ordered it. The next day some foreman comes out (around noon, of course) to take a bunch of measurements, because NOW they've decided it's a good idea to determine what size boiler to order. Of course by the time they gather the info they need it's too late in the day to actually get the boiler because HVAC supply companies close at 4pm because most maintenance companies start work at 7am not 12pm. We are now going on 2 weeks without heat and the folks at Emergency Maintenance seem to be in no rush to get it working. The next day they come out and install the boiler. Hurray! We finally have heat! Well until the next morning anyway when I wake up to a freezing cold house. At this point I am DONE with Emergency Maintenance Company. I get the number of a good HVAC company (Sila Heating and Air Conditioning, BTW) from a friend. I call them and they have a guy at my house within the hour. He determines that the thermostat was wired incorrectly and shorted out. He fixes it and we have heat again, hurray! But before the guy from Sila leaves he informs of the following things: 1. The new boiler is drastically under-sized for my house by about 100k BTUs 2. The pipes on the boiler are hooked up incorrectly and would basically void the warranty on the new boiler. I immediately call my credit card company and tell them not to pay Emergency Maintenance. I then call EM and tell them to come uninstall the boiler. I call Sila and schedule them to install the correct boiler. Again, do not let these idiots into your house. read more

I have sears home warranty, and they offer a free annual heating and cooling preventative maintenance check. I called sears, they gave me a confirmation number to call EMCO with. EMCO promptly made an appointment for me on a Saturday. While they did offer the 3 hours window, he showed up right on time at 9 am. The serviceman was non judgemental, as I had no clue about maintenance of my oil heater. He immediate gave me a long lesson, and showed me everything I needed to know and all the time frames of when things needed to be checked. I had a yellow leak, that turned out to be the chimney not having sealant among other items. He told me the price, which was fair considering I had only had the furnace looked at once since I moved in 5 yrs ago. I made appt a few weeks later for another Saturday to have the work completed. Window as 9 to 11. They called at 945 letting me know they had to reschedule due to illness. I was unhappy but ok with that. I scheduled for the following Tuesday from 3 to 5. The setter called me at 345 Tuesday to reschedule again...Not happy. I voiced my dismay as I took off again from work to meet this window. She said she'd check and call back. Well, I thought the worst, but they surprised me. They showed up at 5 without the call back, and he had a few guys with him. Each were finishing their different jobs from all cross the city, chose to work late to help me with my house. They came, they saw, they completed the work and my heat was on and I felt secure and safe. And even before the last guy left, who was the initial gentleman from the maintenance check, he went over EVERYTHING with me on the maintenance They also were very clean, there was no dirt or oil anywhere, and they still vacuumed the heater room prior to leaving. This is a reputable company, I am am soooo happy with the service! read more

Unfortunately, I was stuck with Emergency Maintenance by a home warranty company. The technician confirmed that all of their work is scheduled through the home warranty company. Of course, this creates a huge disincentive for honest work and assessment, and is quite telling. Upon arrival, Serge found no problems at all with an air conditioner that was making a noise that could be heard for blocks. He refused to to any work or inspect the unit. The noise was obviously indicative of a mechanical problem (indeed, it is why they were called). However, immediately upon arrival, Emergency Maintenance refused to even investigate the very issue that led to the call. If a "noise" is not covered - then say so up front, rather than coming on a pointless call in an effort to collect a deductible payment. I would never use Emergency Maintenance for anything, and I would rate them less than 1 star if possible read more

Buyer Beware: My home warranty company sent out this company to assess water on my basement floor. Being a novice I believed it was coming from the hot water heater. The tech Leo came out and was unable to determine where the water came from however recommended installing water pressure regulator and expansion tank. Additionally replacing the drain valve. Requested the $100 deductable and told me he would order the parts. I asked if it was covered and he said I'm just the tech call the office. So 2 weeks go by water all over my floor again and I called. I was told that my home warranty company said it wasn't covered call them. I was upset and asked why they didn't call me they were the company who came out. Again she said that they were suppose to call. So here I am water all over the floor, no call to offer to do the job with it being out of the pocket payment, no call saying it isn't covered, and water again. I called my home warranty co and IRONICALLY he was able to indentify the issue, it wasn't the water heater at all, it was the utility pump next to the water heater. The plummer turned on the water to see where the leak in the heater was coming from by getting it hot and low an behold issue identified. I am left wondering 3 questions 1) did emergancy maintence just RIP me off for the deductable 2) was he just that incompetent. 3 Why order items for a hot water heater that is working fine. Bizarre is the best way to explain it. Let me digress. We have been an indirect customer of Emergency Maintenance Corporation (EMC) through our Home Warranty (Total Protect) for over seven years. My impression is most of EMC's business comes from the Home Warranty contracts. In 2016 we had a major leak in the upstairs air conditioner (Unit #2). A claim was filed with Total Protect and It was replaced by EMC. We had a considerable bill for items not covered by Total Protect, but that's a different topic. This year we had a local company do a pre-season inspection of the a/c units. They found a leak in the cooling coils inside the air handler in the basement unit. (Unit #1). That's not surprising as it is over 16 years old. We filed a claim with Total Protect and EMC came out June 21st and EMC Tech A added 1.5 lbs. of R22 refrigerant and EZ sealant to unit #1. No problem since. Then in early July we noticed the upstairs unit (unit #2) would not hold 76 degrees. In mid to late afternoon it would drift up to 78 or 79 degrees. Again, a claim was filed with TP and on July 6 EMC sent Tech B to trouble shoot the problem with unit #2. Tech B diagnosed the problem as low on refrigerant (remember the unit is only 3 years old). I asked where is it leaking and he said, "no leak". A few weeks later we noticed the same problem. The upstairs unit would not hold 76 degrees. This time EMC sent Tech A out on July 22 and he said it was slightly low on 410A refrigerant. He added a little refrigerant but said he didn't have any sealant on the truck. He said he would be back when he was in the area. A couple of days later I got a call from EMC to schedule in their words "... the completion of job". It was scheduled for between 11:00 Am and 2:00 PM on July 29. This is where it gets bizarre. This time EMC sent Tech B who worked on it originally on July 6. He arrived at 5:00 PM (3 hours beyond specified limit). I said it just needed sealant. He said I must look at the unit. I thought OK, what can it hurt. He made temperature measures and check some of the vents. Then he took the cover off the Aprilaire Zone controller and was inspecting the airflow dampers. I said I didn't call for service that I didn't have adequate airflow, matter of fact I didn't schedule the service call at all. It was done by EMC to complete the job. I insisted that the only thing I was interested in was getting the sealant. He did that and then he drove away. Then about 5 minutes later he is back at the door and says he must look at the dampers. Foolishly I let him back in. Again, he zeroed in on the zone controller and starts to disconnect the damper motors and takes voltage and continuity measurements. I again told him I didn't schedule this as I didn't have any problems with the air circulation. At one point he disconnected a wire from the controller and the a/c shut down. All the while he is on the phone to a co-worker. I said I want to talk to him. He said it won't do any good. I thought to myself, great I'm going to be without air conditioning for something I didn't complain about. I said stop, button it back up and leave. He ignored me. I repeated it to make sure he heard me, but he continued to disconnect wires. I then called EMC and they him button it back up and leave. I should have called the police when he ignored me and wouldn't leave. The only thing I can imagine was after he left, his boss told him we have to have something to bill Total Protect so go back and work on the dampers. This was a complete sham. read more

I called this company for a tune-up in December. The technician came in with a carbon monoxide detector, and stated I have carbon monoxide fumes coming from my heater. I explained to him PGW was recently at my home, and the heater was fine. I told the technician I'll call PGW asap. He quoted me a price for a new heater, and immediately left my home. PGW arrived, inspected my heater, and there was no carbon monoxide detected. PGW told me the heater was fine. Do not use this company, I was told they're scamming people to sell new heaters. Emergency Maintenance is now harassing me because I cancelled my payment, because they provided fraudulent service. Imagine that! read more

We used Emergency Maintenance Company in the August of 2014. It was truly an emergency as it was above 100 degrees outside when our cooling system stopped working. We had the hell of a night. Luckily Emergency Maintenance technician arrived promptly in the morning. They fixed our system and made a few very helpful recommendations with regards to maintenance and prevention. Overall we had an excellent experience with them. They were able to come out fast, the receptionist called in advance of the technician's arrival to make sure we were at home, the technician was clearly very knowledgeable, and the price was as expected and comparable to what other companies charge.
