On Easter Sunday, my husband and 2 adult children went to this restaurant for dinner. Our reservation was for 1:45 and we were promptly seated at 1:30. Our waitress never introduced herself and was less than pleasant. We got our drinks and our appetizer in a timely fashion, however we cannot say the same about our meals. After waiting for over an hour, we decided to pay our drink/appetizer bill and leave. What was most upsetting, however was the service (or should I say lack thereof). While I do understand it was Easter, when we attempted to inquire as to the status of our meal, the hostess at the front desk rudely said 'you will need to ask your server'. We would have loved to have asked our server if we could have found her! She came by once to take another drink order and was never seen again. She never came back to our table to inform us of the status of our meals or to apologize for the length of the time that we had been waiting. Before we left, I spoke to the manager Robert, who after I explained to him what had happened, presented me with a 20 percent off card for our next visit. There will never be a next visit, therefore, this card is useless. Good customer service on behalf of a manager would have been offering to pay our $66.00 drink/appetizer bill. The rudeness of the front desk hostess and the total lack of concern on behalf of the waitress is inexcusable no matter how busy the restaurant was. We had no Easter dinner due to the Emerald Rose. We will never return. read more

Such a cute place! And I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was, and the service matched! Everything was great! Came for brunch with a couple of friends. We decided to each order something and share. I love sharing! I had a blueberry mimosa. Well, actually I had two. They put fresh blueberries in it, and it was good, but I wonder what they put in it. Anyway, yum! Then we shared the Berry Salad, Corned Beef & Cabbage Egg Rolls, Margherita pizza, and the prime Rib Hash. Everything was so good! This has been my go to for fish and ships in the area. Have been coming here off and on for years. Food was always consistent. Not sure what changed but the fish tasted as if it was old and the batter was completely different, (in a Bad way). Wound up throwing the food away. Sons got burgers that were requested to be medium and they were well done. For me this is a big blow and not sure if we will be back. For the quality of fish like that, I could go to the 99 and save money. Got the food to go, so could not tell the restaurant, but will stop by and let them know as a courtesy. read more

A 25 year customer that (spends a ton of money here) orders the Jumbo Scallops that were as big as a quarter. Called over the manager and he agrees the scallops aren't jumbo but they serve 10. First time to the emerald rose and every lasso detail was perfect. Our waitress Shelby made sure the kitchen got my food request right. I have a sensitivity to garlic and she sent some of my dinner back to ensure I was happy. The burgers are hand pressed, you can tell the meat HHS's never been frozen and everyone at our table was so happy with the food. My hubby got a cob salad with steak and that was great too. Usually we have great service and pretty good food. Today terrible service, we sat for twenty minutes before even being acknowledged. The food was lousy. I got a $27 salad that was terrible, it had 4 shrimp (shrimp was an extra $12), avacado that was covered with black spots, and a pale pink unripe tomato. Will not be going back. I am not sure what has happened to this restaurant but it is awful. I was there the other night and the waitress didn't take her time with us and was not professional in any way. The food was horrible. When the bread basket came it was burnt and black and hard as a rock. The bread on my friends sandwich was also burnt and I mean black. The bread under the hot turkey sandwich was stale and hard. A knife would not even go through the crust. Previous to the Covid this was one of my favorite places to go. Awesome service to start!! We sat at the bar and the bartender is a super star !! We had a few apps . The Irish meatballs are incredible. Maybe one of the best things I've ever eaten. My husband and I went here last night, and it was awesome! The pub chips are fantastic: made to order freshly sliced potato chips, served with French onion dip. (You could probably make the dip at home, but the chips are truly unique.) The brown ale chili was a bit heavy on the chili powder, but overall very flavorful. The bangers and mash were really tasty; you could see the sear marks on the sausages, and the mashed potatoes had just a few lumps, so you could tell they were made in house. My husband had the shepherd's pie, and his only complaint was that he wished the portion was larger. He enjoyed it so much, he wanted more! We opted out of dessert, but after having the Irish Flight (Minis of Guinness, Guinness Blonde, Murphy's Stout, Smithwick's) with dinner, I had a Trinity martini. It's Jameson's, Irish Mist, and Baileys. I'd drink them all day if it were possible. Our server was very attentive, and the staff were all extremely nice. We've tried to go before on Friday or Saturday, and the wait has been an hour or more. Sunday evenings are quieter, and it's easy to get a table or a booth. I would normally give the Emerald Rose 4-5 stars, because the service is always great, and the food is consistently very good to excellent. BUT. Tonight I ordered 2 glasses of Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc. When the bill came, I saw that they charged $18/GLASS. Let me put that in perspective. If I walk in the local package store and buy a bottle of Whitehaven, it costs between $15.99 and $17.99 PER BOTTLE. And we all know that the wholesale cost is far lower. The Emerald Rose app shows that the price for a glass is $11.50. So someone has decided to price gouge, and, Massachusetts law states that they must honor the lowest price. I understand that restaurant margins are razor thin, but trying to make it up by raising the price of a GLASS of mid-priced wine to higher than the cost of a BOTTLE at retail is a way to turn off long-time customers. Now, to be fair to the staff, when I asked, they were embarrassed by this price increase, which the owner implemented over their objections. Have been coming here for 20 years, this has been "our place" for ever! The bat staff is the best in the biz - Danielle, Lori, Tammi and Jenn. However...new management and new kitchen staff and the place is in a downward spiral. Food used to be great now its sub par at best. THE ONLY REASON WE KEEP COMING BACK IS THE BAR STAFF! Management i hope you read these reviews you are losing regulars left and right. Theres so many people who would come 2-3 times a week that have moved on. Been coming here for several years. Staff are great but there is a new Chef, not great food since new Chef redid the menu....... Not good value and not good quality. Okay, so, here's the thing. For dinner, they are a subtle 4 stars. As a bar, they are great. I'd even go as high as 5 stars, maybe even 5+. Lots of room, lots of good atmosphere and patrons, and even some live music sometimes. Good beer selection, great mixed and blended drinks. My wife highly recommends the Snickers drink. I don't know if they do trivia here, but I'd happily do trivia here. But, as a restaurant, a very subtle 4. Other places just wallop you with good food and good service but fall just a tiny bit shy in one department for a clear 4 star experience. This place is more like 3 Stars averaged with 5 Stars to get you to an, "Oh, I guess 4 Stars does seem about right." My family recently went here and ordered drinks, and appetizers, and soups, and salads, and meals, and desserts. In short, we got the better part of the menu. First, they put us on the restaurant side, which was dead, dead, dead. For most of our time, we were the only table there, which is a shame, because the food and the waitstaff do not deserve those low patronage numbers. I think it's just that it's, "The Rose," that place that everyone's parents frequented. Who wants to go there? Well, you do, and let me tell you why. They are that restaurant that services the fussy plain eaters and the fussy fancy eaters in your family, and they generally do it well. Further, the chef is clearly brave and tries things outside her safe zones, which is exciting. And she does a decent job of it, at the least. In short, when you don't want to cook, have some disposable income, want something better than a 3 star chain restaurant that thinks fry batter is a seasoning, and you hope for a little surprise in your options, then the Rose is your Emerald in the rough. The breakdown: We ordered the following non-drink items (as the fact that the drinks are a 5 is noted above): Appetizers: Nachos: Multicolored typical restaurant pub chips. Fresh jalapenos. Sufficiently cheesy. Good guac. Nothing amazing. Solid 3. Mussels: My 6yo loves mussels. Ordered them as his dinner. He had trouble with these as they were a little heavy handed with the salt. 2.5 Buffalo Tenders: Good. Not huge number, but nicely cooked. Good Buffalo sauce. Good blue cheese. The only fault here was that the celery was clearly cut hours earlier and kept in water to keep it turgid, which makes the celery curl as it overswells. The rest was quite tasty. 3.5 Soft Pretzel Twists and Pub Cheese: 5+. These were flat out awesome. I try to stay pretty low carb, but I couldn't help but halve some of this. The soft pretzel twists were amazing, and then they were served with a cup of soft like pudding pub cheese that was just right up there. The gold standard as a kid was the Kraft Old English pub cheese, and this cheese made cheese that look like a pauper out on the street. 5+. A rockstar app. Oysters: My wife loves oysters and said these are some of the best she's had in recent memory. Happy wife, happy life. 5+. Soup: Sweet Potato Bisque: This was the soup of the day, and I like places that have a du jour option. However, if this were Chopped, this would get knocked by the judges for deceptive labeling. This was thick, like you could probably flip a spoonful of the stuff and it would stay on your spoon in a slow plop down. So, let's get serious, this was a delightfully savory sweet potato mash, and they should change the name and get this creamy, gently salty, subtly sweet mash a place on the permanent menu. 5 Salads: Emerald Rose Salad: It comes with a balsamic, but my 13yo diva thought balsamic was overplayed, so she had me order it with the zinfandel dressing. The waitress happily obliged. I had some, it was nice. Fresh greens, good flourishes. Solid 3.75. Greens Salad: I had this with sides and soup for my dinner. It was a fresh salad, a good ranch. Solid 3. Poached Pear and Arugula Salad: This was a miss. The pears were hard, the arugula was very bitter, my wife said. 2. Meals: Burger and Fries: My 14yo ordered this. Egg-brushed bun, sizable patty, fresh lettuce and tomato, a big slab of pickle spear, and some very good steak cut fries. Not going out of the scope of a bland standard and still executing well is kind of a high art. The chef pushed to the edges of the box. 5. Shepherd's Pie: The mashed potato was extruded through a pastry cone and then baked, giving a nice finish. Angus beef, not lamb, so I think that technically makes it a Cottage Pie, but who cares? The gravy was nice. The vegetables good. It's an Irish pub, the Shepherd's Pie better be good, right? 4.5 Sides: Grilled Asparagus: Good, only a few. 3.5 Sauteed Spinach: Needs better plating and more respect. 3 Desserts: Key Lime Cheesecake with Oreo Crust: Cheesecake of the Day too! I have been to this restaurant a couple of times and have never been fully impressed by it but they are one of the few Irish restaurants in the area. This time upon arrival we waited by the hostess station for a few minutes and finally peeked around the corner to see the hostess talking with the servers by the kitchen, she saw me and came over to seat us. The servers were inattentive as it seemed they were more interested in socializing by the kitchen than waiting tables even though the restaurant was mostly empty with only a few tables occupied at 6:30 on a Sunday night. When the food finally arrived it was decent but not great. My daughter ordered nachos which had sat under the heat lamp while the rest of the meals had been prepared so by the time we got it the cheese had dried and started to harden. When we were done eating I had to waive to the waitress to get her attention so we could get our check. I highly doubt we will be going back. read more

I've been going to emerald rose for 20 years. Always been good and consistent. However the last few times it has been just ok. The worse was last night. we ordered apps and dinner. We waited quite awhile for the apps and was surprised because it wasn't crowded. When the apps came out they "looked" delicious and hot. We barely took a bite and our entrees came right out. Not we have all hot food at once. I told the waitress that was not how we wanted it and she said she didn't put in the order for that to happen. So she blames someone. So we were a little ticked off. The manager came over and apologized And said the apps were on the house. I appreciated his gesture and was satisfied at his effort to make it right. However it just got worse. my dinner was cold and lousy. I ordered the special roast pork with apple stuffing. I barely got any stuffing and it was blah anyway. The pork was flavorless and fatty. My friend got steak tips and they were under cooked, fatty and chewy. It was just a huge disappointment. The only good thing on the table was the bread and butter. I hate to complain about a restaurant that has been good for the last many years but I'm hoping the owner will see any bad reviews and work to bring back the great place it was. read more

We arrived and when the hostess finally came to the stand not a word just held up one finger at our group and the group behind us. Before hello, before anything. We did not get the booth. Fine. The waitress came by and then a manager took our drink order. I when one of our party ordered wine he commented "finally a real drink order". I the asked if there would be a bread basket and his response was "yeah, don't worry about it". If the food was incredible it still wouldn't be worth freezing to death as we are snarked at. The hostess was not having a bad night, the last time we were there she had the same attitude. I'm sure working with the public isn't easy. But you know what is easy? Being civil. Don't go. Our bartender was attentive and very kind. We ordered the pretzel bites and beer cheese, which were excellent. My boyfriend ordered the bangers and mash with extra gravy, and those came out exactly how he wanted them to. I ordered a filet drizzled with herb butter, and it came with mashed and asparagus. I was so excited for this meal. The potatoes and asparagus were right on,but the steak had an off flavor. It was cooked to absolute perfection, and I thought it might be the bits where the grill marks were. I cut those off and realized it was the butter because that disgusting and bitter taste seeped even deeper into the middle of the filet. I love steak so much and not being able to eat a filet was so depressing. I even told the bartender that I only wanted to take the mash and veg home, and then explained the issue with the steak. We still had to pay for the steak even though it was inedible. I am genuinely disappointed in the kitchen and with management for not even coming to address this issue. First I would like to say the bartender "Patrick" was excellent. Last time we were here in the fall we did not have a good experience. My brother's fish was raw. My husband and decided to give it another try. My husband ordered tips and I ordered seared haddock with vegetables. My dinner was cold and I sent it back. It came back a second time cold as well. At this point, my husband had finished eating his meal. The third time it was heated up so long in the microwave that the fish was like rubber. Patrick was very accommodating and took my meal off of our tab. Which I appreciated. I was never offered anything else to eat. It was very disappointing. Won't be back anytime soon. read more
