I live in Arizona and was in Murrieta for an event a couple weekends ago. I brought our three pups along for the ride when my 11 yr old lab/terrier mix threw up twice on the way out there and 3-4 more times at my parents, with the last one having blood in it. We went to a vet in Murrieta who was only taking criticals, so they gave us a list of places to call for him to be seen. We started with EPIC vet and I'm so glad we did. They were able to get us in right away. The staff was so nice, compassionate and understanding throughout the whole weekend (we were there Friday night through Tuesday afternoon) . We didn't know what was going on at first but all the doctors did a great job at explaining the different parts of the intestine, what they saw, and what it could be. Turns out old man ate a cat toy! 3 years with us and he had no interest previously. Thomas, Dr. Graves, Dr. Bryden, Dr. Saaiman, Kaylee and Katie (and whoever else helped that I didn't meet), thank you. Thank you for taking such great care of my boy Jake and explaining everything to me so that I could understand it. I never hope to visit an emergency vet, but if I to and I'm in SoCal, this would be the office. The staff was great, the office was clean and for everything that happened, they were pretty reasonably priced (I always expect things to be twice as much in Ca compared to Az, but that wasn't the case this time, thank goodness); it was about the same as what I would've paid at home. My dog is sick and I took her to this business since it's supposed to be 24/7. They had one vet and he was doing surgery and they sent us away. The only other 24/7 vet was full. Why does it say 24/7 when they cannot serve the sick animals when it's necessary? What a joke! read more

I got there with my mini dog vomiting blood and blood diarrhea, I waited for about 1.1/2 to be called in a room to hear from the attendant/ technician/nurse ... ( she didn't even touch my dog to check her vitals) and all she said was that the wait time would be between 4-12 hours for the Vet check. Friday night my dog Franklin started vomiting and acting very uncomfortable. We called ahead to EPIC to ask a few questions and bring him in to be looked at. Covid has ALL veterinary offices doing curbside so when we got there we called and someone came out right away to see him. They took him back and we waited in the truck. That's a very uncomfortable feeling when your fury baby isn't feeling well. After about an hour I called for an update. That would be my only complaint about this experience.....it would have been nice to have some kind of update sooner. Even if it's just that he's being observed and he's doing ok for now....BUT having said that, while we were sitting in our truck out front we watched 3 very critical dogs being carried in so I understand that the priority would be on those dogs. We watched through the front window as the staff ran...literally RAN around helping people and answering phones. I read the Yelp reviews as we waited in the truck and I've gotta say they had me a little nervous. Some claim that they were over charged, waited hours and had unnecessary work done to their pet. So I was a little apprehensive. My experience is nothing like the other reviews. The staff was kind even while they were busy, seemed to care about Franklin, didn't recommend unnecessary testing and was responsibly priced. They did an exam, gave him anti-nausea medication and fluids. It cost me about $300. Which isn't much more expensive that the regular vet. We were in & out in about 2 hours. That's great considering emergency care whether it's for humans or animals in NOT fast or cheap. That's just how it goes. I hope I never have to visit emergency care for my animals ever again. If I do, I feel very comfortable taking any of them back to EPIC. Franklin is feeling better but not 100% so we will be following up with his regular vet tomorrow. I brought my dog in to be seen and when I told them I didn't approve their $1500 plan of possible care, and that I would like to run one test at a time so they can't overcharge me, they told me that I needed to come and pick up my dog. Who they said is severely dehydrated and needed to be on IV fluids and had a fever of 104. But because we didn't want them to charge us for X-rays on a dog that doesn't need X-rays. read more

Will never return here. Please do not take your pet here. MONEY is their only interest. I felt no compassion or concern for my dog whatsoever. Took my 15 year old Chihuahua here. He was experiencing head jerking and shaking a lot. After paying over $650.00 in blood work and X-rays, I left with no diagnosis on what was wrong with him. The Vet (Dr. Striker) had no idea how to treat him. She said maybe neurological? But didn't know. This was a Friday night. My baby suffered until I could get him into his regular Vet on Monday. After spending the $650 there, I couldn't afford to go to another emergency vet over the weekend. Took him to our normal Vet the following Monday. He was diagnosed with a tooth abscess right away! The head jerking was due to the tooth pain he was experiencing and him trying to deal with the tremendous pain he was in. He was given antibiotics and pain meds. I'm grateful to say he is doing great now!!! I called to complain. Dr. Striker called me back to explain that they don't do dental! Of course they don't treat teeth. But, as a Vet, she should have been able to see that it was a tooth issue. Especially, since he was given oxygen (@ $100) for what she said were blue gums. Since she examined his mouth she should have been able to see that there was something going on there. At the very least he should have been given something for pain and not left to suffer the weekend. read more

Where do I even begin? We took our dog here due to diarrhea and vomiting before getting seen they wanted to do a parvo test before he could even get seen by the vet. It turns out negative. Vet calls and diagnosis him and he mentioned he would like to give the dog anti nausea and fluids. He informed me someone will contact me with a quote for the service. 10 min later a lady contacts me and quotes us for about $600 because she wanted to add a few more hundred just in case our dog needs to be sent home with medications. Then she added "are you okay with the price?" From there on I informed her kindly that I don't appreciate the service. I spoke with the vet about one thing and now this other lady is charging me add ons. Informed the lady that all they care about is $$$ and not a damn thing about your pet. Watching a tik tok reminded me I forgot to thank the clinic for the amazing care they gave my husky we had to put down last year in 2021 after a long life. He was suffering and couldn't breath in the middle of the night. We had to rush him to the nearest clinic. Mind you this was during the height of Covid and mask mandates were strictly in place. The clinic staff allowed us to go inside the building with him and be with him when they put him down so he wasn't alone with strangers. This gesture of good will did not go unnoticed. We were so grateful that they bent the rules a little for us and showed us grace and hospitality when we needed it the most. I can't thank them enough. read more

Having a sick pet is extremely stressful and this place does NOT make it any easier. I was left on hold multiple times and hung up on and given no updates about my pet. Even to pick him up I had to wait over an hour in the car. I can see the nurses lounging around in the waiting area instead of doing their jobs. The girl we spoke to about his discharge called him a "she" didn't know what dog it was and knew nothing about his chart when asked. Do you people not communicate? The girls are rude and have rude voice tone on the phone. Save your money (this place over charges) and find somewhere to actually care for your pets. read more

I have a bad feeling about this. We went in with our dog because she was yelping in pain when climbing the stairs. The doctor did an extremely brief body check and sent us home with pain meds. It was odd, we explained the situation to 3 separate people who all took what looked like extensive notes, but one after the other the notes which had been taken were very wrong or not even read or relayed. I spent more time re-explaining the problem than was spent on physically checking our dog. We were sort of talked out of x-rays (which was weird in and of itself), the doctor even was speaking as if he assumed we'd go somewhere else for follow up treatment. It was like "we can't find any immediate and super obvious problems, so go somewhere else and let them handle it." It felt half assed and now, after giving her the meds, she's still crying out in pain. Something's not right, but I'll be damned if I take her back to that place. I don't want a band aid for my dear sweet girl, I want an answer, I want her to be better. I KNOW if I took her back, there would be no guarantee on her treatment. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! That's what I'm telling you and that's what they'll tell you too. I'm not sure how an emergency vet can manage to deny care but they have multiple times. Most recently my dog ingested a poisonous mushroom. I know this because I called Emergency Pet Clinic, who referred me to the ASPCA poison control and said they would not see us unless they confirmed it was a poisoning and gave us a case number. Well an hour later (and a charge from the ASPCA for their services) we call EPC back saying that they confirmed it was a poisonous mushroom and our dog needs to be seen immediately. EPC then tells us they won't see him. Ridiculous! They're not in the business of helping animals. We had to drive to Orange County to be seen where thankfully we were treated and they saved my dogs liver from failure. Thanks for nothing EPC. read more

I am very thankful for Dr. Fang, the clinic staff, and other vets who assisted in the emergency care of my 6-year-old cat a week ago. After being seen by my regular vet for sudden symptoms without a clear diagnosis, I was referred to EPC since my vet was closing for the weekend and Rylan's need for care was critical. Although Rylan was ultimately unable to be saved from what we now believe was an aortic embolism, the care and compassion shown by all levels of staff at EPC for the two days they cared for him was nothing short of amazing. I felt Rylan was in great hands when I left him overnight, he was cared for well enough that he was in good spirits and I was able to take him home for a half-day to love on him (and he sure showed us his biggest love and gave us so many big kitty-kisses during those hours!), and when I had to return and make the inevitable choice to euthanize, the staff and Dr. Fang were very compassionate, gentle, and understanding. They worked quickly but constantly checked with me to make sure I was good with whatever action they were taking next. Even though euthanasia was the right choice, they still offered to try more to help Rylan if that was what I wanted, and they also shaved a lock of Rylan's fur for me to keep afterwards which I greatly appreciated. In addition to my Rylan's care, I also observed several other pet-parents as they came and went from the clinic. Some left happy with their pets, others left with empty carriers like I did. But I noticed that everyone was treated equally with care and compassion regardless of the situation they were facing. Thank you so much for the great work you all do! read more

Unfortunately I had to take both my large breed old babies to be put down ..just weeks apart. As you can imagine, it's been a terrible few weeks. The staff and doctors at this clinic are absolutely amazing and were extremely loving and sweet not only to my fur babies in their last moments...but were very compassionate and sweet to me and my husband. I'm really frustrated that I can't leave zero stars for such a horrendous business!! I took my dog to my regular vet because I believed she was in a state of DKA from the onset of Diabetes. Being a type 1 diabetic for the last 37 years, I've learned a lot and knew she needed help. My vet did a simple blood test and found that her blood sugar was over 500. She recommended that we take her to an emergency vet clinic. We brought her here. HUGE MISTAKE!! The "doctors" had absolutely no idea what diabetes was and it showed. How can a doctor/veterinarian seriously have no idea how to treat diabetes?!? I'm embarrassed for them and their complete lack of knowledge. I will take pictures of the documents they gave me when I picked her up, so you could see how ridiculous their treatments were AND which doctors were at fault!! Over a course of 3 days, they gave her 1-2 units of insulin and kept her over 400 every moment she was there!! What a bunch of morons!! I called and yelled and complained until they told me I wasn't allowed to call anymore because I was being "volatile", but the truth is, they were just embarrassed because they're completely uneducated and dumb. So...$8,000 later they released her to me. Still in DKA. What a bunch of morons!! Don't take your animals here, they don't care about them and they seriously try to kill them!! To take a blood sugar, it's done on a glucometer that costs about $20 for the whole glucometer. They charged $126 along with an injection of 1-2 units of insulin which only costs $56 for the whole bottle...but they charged $79-$210 for each injection. They also charged a$50 exam fee for every day she was there!! THEN...these idiots gave her at least one shot of dextrose for $71 (which raises blood sugar - why would she need to raise blood sugars when she's already in a state of keto acidosis?!?? Go to California Veterinary Specialists before you even consider this place. We took our fur baby to this location in hopes of having after hours care provided for our doggy who needed assistance throughout the night. The receptionist that we checked in with wasn't overly friendly or warm especially considering that our dog was in critical condition and we were worried for her. The female doctor (Dr Cane or something like that?) who was on for the evening, was extremely cold and condescending to me. We had MULTIPLE instances of rudeness from her and I finally had to tell her (as she was talking 60 mph) that I couldn't understand a word she was saying as she was talking in all medical terminology and faster than the speed of light. After we had received our estimate of what to expect (2500-3500), we had questions of what would be done to be included in that amount or if our puppy would even be able to make it through based on the severity. I asked the vet to come speak with us and when she finally came in, she told us that she had to make it quick because she had other clients and didn't have time for us. When we questioned the amount, she said she was the vet, not the biller. When we questioned if they would be able to perform any additional tests or work to find out what was going on, she said she wasn't an x ray tech to be able to do that and hey couldn't figure anything out except just trying to keep her stable. And when we had questions about the x rays that our doggies doctor had sent over, she said she couldn't read it because it was someone else's work. My husband met up with us in the hospital as we were then I'm to the realization that it may be the last time he had to see our doggy. When the vet spoke with us, he had the same exact thoughts that she was completely rude and cold and had lacks empathy from the start. All we were to her was a number and not a case that she wanted to help. We ended up taking our dog to cvs and immediately from the start we had a wayyyy better experience. They were attentive, caring, filled with empathy and concern, and truly did EVERYTHING in their power to heal and help our puppy. They didn't rush us or pressure us into anything. All of The things that they laughed at emergency pet clinic, we found at CVS. Not to mention the stuff at CVS was so much better equipped to handle any type of emergency situation. I will NEVER step foot in EPC again and I advise anyone who loves their animals to stray from it as fast as possible. read more

We brought a dog in who was diabetic and needed hydration and a second opinion. The vet said the treatment for the dog would run between $4700 to $15,000 for three days hospitalization. We did not have that kind of money or a way to get it. They just kept him for a day and sent him home. I know times are difficult but have they had no plans to trade the dog they should've just let him go home with his family. We trusted them. Never again. The only positive thing I can say is that they didn't charge a whole lot for doing nothing. Update: the dog passed. Fluids would at least have made him a little bit more comfortable in his last hours. I guess with these guys it's only about $$$. read more

This place is terrible, I brought my little puppy she was coughing, the clinic run two very expensive tests one blood test and X-rays on her lungs they charged me $750.00 dollars just to give me a bad diagnostic they said she had pneumonia when she had distemper virus. They prescribed her amoxicillin for infection wich didn't help her at all, I brought her back a week later because she was getting worse, they wanted to run more tests and charge $2500.00 I didn't have that money so they give her back to me and charge me $50.00 for the second visit and didn't even give her medicine for her pain they are so disconsiderate. She ended up dying because of the bad diagnostic and no appropriate treatment for the virus. I brought her in a very early stage for them to give her treatment but they didn't. I just want to say "Thank You" to the staff here for being very sensitive and caring in our decision to put down our pet. It was such a discouraging moment and something we did not take lightly. Everyone knows that you'll more than likely outlive your dog, but it's just depressing when it actually gets to that point. After the doctor evaluated his condition, they put everything on the table as to what our options would be. They were courteous enough to let my wife and I deliberate for hours in the examination room. In the end we made our choice to let him go, as disheartening as it was. We appreciate the employees for giving us all the time we needed to be with our friend and family member. Plus, we are grateful for all the concern and understanding they showed us. If I could choose less then 1 star I would. To continue with Samantha Sotos review. The initial visit was estimated at Low $1500 to a High $2000. The bill wound up being $1700 which I paid due to the fact that this is an EMERGENCY office, I didn't squabble once about the price. My wife returns later with our dog and a cone collar. Her injuries are on her neck, she can't use the thing because it rests right into her wounds but they made my wife buy one anyhow for an additional $21. The amount of dried blood left behind by this place was horrible. The absolute minimum was done to help our fur baby. We couldn't help her because she cried when we tried to help her. This should have been cleaned during her sedation. My wife was told to "just bring her back if there is any complications." (giving you the sense that they are honorable) My wife took our dog back due to a couple of torn out stiches and some discharge from her main wound. It was then estimated at Low $1500 to a High $2000 AGAIN! WTF. Keep in mind, this is a wound that they stitched and had failed to remain in place. Infection was present so they wanted to sedate her again to clean it and re-stitch the wound and wanted to charge me more then the initial visit for far less service! This estimate was NOT justified in ANY way considering this was the results of THEIR work. EPC took NO responsibility for their work and are not willing to stand behind their work. I told her that "I'm not authorizing anything at all." I refused to pay that amount because it was an obvious rip off so we said we will just come in a pick her up. Then she has the nerve to tell us that our bill comes to $170 for evaluation and prescription! (Keep in mind, the staple and stitches removal date is just 2 days away which was all included in the $1700 I already paid) I hung up fuming then drove 30 min to pick up my girl. I called the main desk to let them know I was there and they still tried to get me to pay for an evaluation and prescription. Again I refused to pay 1 red cent. It was obvious I was livid as I stood outside staring into the office. They knew who I was and they knew I was pissed. We refused the prescription so she reduced the price to $95 for the evaluation. ("Does she think I'm stupid" ran through my mind) Her revised request just further insulted me. I exclaimed "NOTHING!" Reluctantly they "generously" agreed to give me back my dog and "waive" the charges. (I have no doubt because they just wanted to get rid of the pissed off guy at that point) Money isn't my problem, being ripped off is. Knowing this establishment preys on the emotions of the love pet owners have for their fur babies is sickening, unethical & unprofessional. Thank God I'm an Essential worker and am still earing a living but they don't know that and still wanted to rip me off. The work I initially paid for was never completed and won't be completed by this place. We have since taken my dog to a local vet who assessed, treated, cleaned and re-stitched for about $320. Fortunately there are still honest professionals willing to charge a fair price for services provided. For nothing, I know that you had critical emergency (2) dogs who came an hour after me that need more attention compare to my Lilly, but at least say something! I have never met a kinder and more compassionate staff than I have when I visited this clinic. My pup was in need of some love and care and they were unbelievably attentive. Dr. De La Peza walked me through everything kindly and patiently answered my questions. I received updates throughout my pups stay, which made me feel at ease. This is a busy hospital that takes such great pride in what they do. They have the best veterinarian that is out there, I am forever grateful for Dr. De La Peza and everything that she has done. Tonight we had a crazy event... one of the dogs got his tongue caught in a half-opened can of cat food. Fortunately everything is fine now but it was stressful for a little bit while I waited. My experience was AWFUL. Extremely OVERPRICED. The doctor does NOT know how to deliver information. My cat has crystals and we were already there once on the 20th and they were extremely RUDE! We filled out paperwork and we wrote 3 on the age section and one of the receptionist runs up with attitude "what is he three years? three months? three days?" I understand its a stressful environment but there is NO NEED TO BE RUDE. Especially when my cat is pain the last thing I need is some GROWN MANS attitude. When the doctor talked to us he gave us four options. The first option was to do exactly what we did when we left with him on the 20th which is they would give us the same medicine and to just keep an eye on him but he's already blocked now so if we don't have him release this it can be fatal. 2nd option is to do a catheter which is 4 grand after he said that he keeps saying its a really low percentage of it working and then the 3rd option is sex change which is gonna help him have a bigger hole to pee and again he says that's still a really low chance of working and gives us the 4th option which is to put down our cat and proceeds to say yeah he seems like he's gonna be prone to these problems and right after that he says I have put down many young cats it sucks but it happens. I took my puppy here because he had obvious signs of parvo virus. Upon arrival my puppy was able to walk around just very lethargic due to virus. I have had a dog with parvo before so I knew what I was getting into. When I got there they tested and confirmed my puppy did indeed have the parvo virus and told me I would need to leave my puppy until they had time to look over him. They had 3+ dogs they needed to see first and due to covid the owners are not allowed into the building. So about 11:40 am I dropped my puppy off. Again, able to stand up and walk. I received a phone call about 12:38 from the veterinarian telling me my treatment options. I originally went there in hopes of just getting fluids because I knew that was the most important thing in this situation with this virus. (In previous years, a puppy we fostered survived this virus by giving him fluids daily for about 3 days) They gave me a list of things from anti diarrhea meds, appetite stimulator, 2 types of antibiotics, dewormer, and an anti nausea medication. Approx. $700 worth of what seemed unnecessary. I told them I would just like the fluids and one antibiotic at most. They told me antibiotics didn't work that way and that I needed both kinds. In this situation I felt desperate to see our family puppy feeling better and I trusted their advice so I went with 2 types of antibiotics and a bag of fluids to keep him hydrated. While in their care he was given antibiotics (Convenia injection) and 200mL of fluids. I picked my puppy up about 4:15 pm making that an almost 4 hour time frame with them. When I arrived they brought him out to me wrapped in a puppy pad and told me he would need a lot of rest. I assumed the medication would be tiresome on top of fighting this virus. I live about 10 minutes away. When I arrived home I got out of the car and put him on the grass to try and go potty before going inside but he was barely able to even hold a sitting position so I took him inside and assumed he was just very tired just as they had warned me. By this point he was extremely lethargic, barely making any eye contact and acting very suspicious. So I took him upstairs and laid him in his bed. I checked on him about every hour for the next 3 hours. Every time I checked on him it seemed I was getting less and less of a response. By 10pm the only response I was getting was a blink in his eye when I would blow some air on his face. My husband and I wrapped him up very good and proceeded with going to bed with him in our bed hoping that being near us would help him snap out of this. I checked on him every hour until about 2 am when I couldn't even get a single response out of him other than an eye occasionally opening and closing but he was still breathing. At this point it was all he could do. About 20 minutes later I called the 24hr pet hospital clinic and told them what was going on. They advised me to bring him in immediately if possible so within about another 20 minutes I quickly got dressed and headed to the car. My husband brought him down and just before he could put him in the car our puppy took his last breath of air with a very intense and sad noise. As if he had just suffocated right there in front of us. My poor puppy had a very life threatening virus, I know this , however something went terribly wrong in the time they had him. He was not the same dog I dropped off. My husband is a business owner here in the same city and when he went to work the morning following this incident he told some people what happened and surprisingly got some of the worst stories. I was unaware that so many people had such horrible experiences and that this place is known for "killing dogs". Any other time I would think it's a very extreme opinion but after what happened to my puppy I feel someone needs to stand up and bring attention to how this place is practicing medical care to animals. This is not somewhere people should trust bringing their sweet animals to. One more thing I would like to add is, the antibiotic Convenia, on its website states that it's used to treat skin infections and that the skin should be tested before administering this drug. It also says there isn't any proof that it is safe for animals under 4 months. My puppy was one day shy of 9 WEEKS. Also the 2 main side effects of this drug are vomiting and diarrhea, both symptoms you try to avoid as much as possible with this virus. I don't know what kind of medical care is being practiced here but it seems cruel and the Dr. seems uneducated in what she is administering. Nothing can bring back my sweet puppy but they can give me back every regretted dollar spent here that killed him. read more

They wouldn't even see him until TOMORROW EVENING, didn't even try to clean him up or anything. It's always terrible when something happens to your pet but when it happens at night/midnight when everyone else is closed you feel a little hopeless because you don't have a lot of options. I took my boy in at midnight after not being able to lay down from pain and starting breathing rapidly. I took him here and yes the wait was 4 hours (I got 3 hours of sleep) and the vet called and let me know the plan and the estimate and gave me payment options. Luckily I was fully covered with CareCredit and we are taking X-rays as well as blood work and some pain medication. Hopefully he heals fast but I'm thankful for their customer service skills and kindness at midnight and all throughout this morning! Thank you to all the staff! read more
