If you are considering moving here, don't. There are so many internal issues to mention. The most…read moreegregious is the food. There has been a problem with "chef" after "chef" and the food right now is not edible. My mom throws hers out 6 out of 7 days. She resorts to peanut butter sandwich and milk regularly. They will not take anything off the rent for food, so now we have to have food catered and the grocery bill is 4 times as high. This is nothing more than a nursing home so for the ones that are independent this is not the place. Moving her out as soon as possible. You've been warned.

People who think living in a retirement center equals heading down to the end of the dusty road…read moreneed to visit The Heritage at Gaines Ranch. This place looks and operates like an upscale hotel. Just walking into the spacious, beautifully appointed lobby will clue you in that this is no ordinary retirement facility. High ceilings, marble floors, upscale furniture, a fully stocked hard volume library to the left, an extended double living room to the right (complete with a giant tropical fish tank, a posh seating area, and a billiards table), and a great room with a grand piano straight ahead that regularly transforms to host a live music party, or happy hour. Around the corner to the right is the restaurant, which offers chef-prepared meals selected from a menu throughout the day. Down the hall past the elevators is the indoor pool, hot tub, and exercise room, and farther down the hall is the deli, beauty salon, and crafts room. A close relative of mine lived here for four years, and I kept telling him it seemed like he was on permanent vacation at Club Med. I ended up spending a lot of time with him there, it was such a pleasant experience. We always had plenty to do together. The Heritage offers a packed calendar of classes, day trips, club meetings, parties, and other special events. Most activities are included in the monthly rent, but some cost extra. Four of the five floors consist of independent living apartments, with the other floor being dedicated to residents who require more assistance and want a smaller, quieter environment. That floor has its own dining room and additional activities as well, though residents may choose to eat or attend activities downstairs. They do offer assistance on an a la carte fee basis for residents in the independent living apartments as well. The staff is overwhelmingly pleasant and treats all residents with extreme care and dignity. At the time my relative was there, they offered residences for independent and assisted living, but not for nursing or dementia care. It was expensive, but not out of line with costs for similar services in the Austin area. And I think it stood head and shoulders above those other places as far as quality and value.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Experience at Brookdale Westlake Hills…read more My family chose Brookdale Westlake Hills because they took excellent care of my grandfather six years ago. Sadly, the quality of care has gone downhill DRAMATICALLY. The staff now are unprofessional, inattentive, and clearly unhappy in their roles. Every time I've visited -- and after hours of being there, observing staff behavior firsthand -- I've consistently seen them sitting on their phones instead of caring for residents. This is not just a one-time occurrence; it is a pattern that reflects neglect and lack of interest in their responsibilities. When they do interact with residents, it's often with a bad attitude, as though the residents are inconveniencing them. Family members and I have repeatedly asked for updates on our loved one, particularly from NURSE EVAN, and each time we were treated as if we were a nuisance. EVAN often responded with a dismissive tone, gave vague or minimal information, and acted visibly annoyed that we were even asking. At times, it felt like pulling teeth to get even the most basic updates about our loved one's condition -- which is unacceptable when someone's health and dignity are at stake. This is heartbreaking to witness, especially when entrusting them with the care of someone you love. It is shocking and disappointing to see this level of neglect and indifference in a place that is supposed to provide care and compassion. If you value your loved one's dignity and well-being, DO NOT send them here. They are NOT in good hands.

I cannot praise Elmcroft Assisted Living on Menchaca enough…read more Grandpa lived in the Assisted Living side till he passed away. Grandma lives in the memory care unit. They are HEROS! I would go so far as to say they have treated our family like family. Cora in admissions worked with us to explain the finances and answer all questions. She's stepped back in when finances became tighter. Amber, the Executive Director has always shown us kindness and compassion and gone to bat for our family. The maintenance staff got Grandpa's TV working a few times so he could continue to watch his baseball. They then moved Grandpa's hospital bed over to Grandma's room and set it up for us when he passed. Sandra, the director of the Memory Care Unit is such a loving leader to the residents and her staff. The Christmas party for residents, staff and family was so generous and fun. It's so hard to not be able to see Grandma in person because of COVID-19 and it makes it even more important to know that the staff in the memory care unit treats Grandma as if she were their own Grandma. I thank the Lord that we found them.

Plenty of cabinet space and drawers. The kitchen also has a large double stainless steel sink and faucet. The wall across from the kitchen has a large closet for storage and also a full size GE washing machine and dryer. The living room has plenty of room for a large recliner, a grandfather clock, a 65 inch Samsung TV and a large double door cabinet where I have my 27 inch iMac computer. Between the recliner and outside wall I also have a 36"x36" pedestal table, where I have a large hammered copper lamp with shade. The two walls forming the corner behind the recliner and grandfather clock, have two large glass windows covered by Venetian blinds. Moving through the lockable door into the bedroom there is room enough for a queen sized bed, and a three drawer cabinet with lamp. The outside wall has a large window covered with Venetian blinds. Sliding double doors lead into a closet with plenty of room for hanging shirts, and with shelves that hold baskets for socks, and underwear. Under the shelf on the right there is room for a large four drawer cabinet where I can store pajamas and a large collection of various shoes. A single sliding door leads into a spacious bathroom, complete with a shower, toilet, and lavatory. There are two spacious cabinets and drawers next to the shower. Another reason I picked this third floor apartment is that it is located next to the fire escape stairs. I never use the elevators because I like the exercise I get walking up and down the stairs. My apartment is also located at the very end of this wing of The Reserve apartment complex. Consequently I don't hear or see any of my neighbors. Thanks for your time and attention.
