We have been here a few times, food is good authentic(ish). Smaller dining area with decent size bar. Unfortunately service was limited, we sat at the bar and ate, but the bartenders were also servicing the dining, so it was a bit in between interactions with the bartenders. We started out with the Queso w/ground beef, which was good, but could have used a lil more meat... I had the Ground Beef Taco plate and husband had the Chili Relano with ground beef with the red and green sauce. Looked good, he said it was the best he had had, and the tacos were great, meat flavorful and I love that they make the shells homemade, it keeps them crunchy! Where do I start? Popped in on a Sunday afternoon the place was basically empty a bartender behind the bar and a few patrons. The bartender looked at us, but didn't say anything so we waited a few minutes before taking a stool. A few minutes later, we were given menus. We ordered the queso Flameado as an appetizer, it was not flaming, but it was swamped in chorizo. The tortillas were microwaved so we skipped those and ate it with chips. We ordered The combo enchiladas, of which neither of us enjoyed. The atmosphere is dark, but comfortable if you're looking for a quick place to grab a drink while out shopping. It is difficult to see from the road, but is in a large shopping center and the signage at the road is good. read more

Delicious, low key, cool spot. You'd never know it from the outside but the inside is super nice. It's in a random strip mall near a Sam's Club and a Walmart! The only reason I docked a star is due to the service. There were two folks working the front of the house and getting napkins / silverware/ refills was a bit of a challenge. Even getting the bill took a while. The food itself is delicious and the portions are sizable. The salsa is legit and freshly made. We got a kids quesadilla, the queso (trust me and add the beef!), spicy shrimp, chicken fajitas, and a margarita. All was delicious. They do upcharge for things ($2.50 for the beef on queso and $2.50 for chicken on the kids quesadillas) but no complaints on that. Food prices are through the roof and they do have to make a buck! We tried this place for dinner recently and had a great meal. Kind of a hidden gem in this shopping center. The place is spacious and they had a high chair for our daughter. The complimentary chips and salsa were great. The salsa has a kick to it, but I'm weak when it comes to spicy. The queso was delicious. The mole enchiladas and gratinadas enchiladas were fantastic. We came here for the first time today, around the heart of lunch time on a Sunday. The place was empty (there was one other table when we left) and the staff leapt into action upon our arrival. They did not disappoint. The place is in the strip of shops adjacent to the Sam's/Walmart complex on Retail Road, barely noticeable from the outside. In fact, I've been driving past it for the 20 years or so since Walmart here first opened without a second thought. Inside, the space is tastefully decorated in industrial hacienda style, clean with just right natural light, and welcoming. The menu was the same as every other day (no brunch menu) with a wide range of choices, and the service was just the right amount of attentive. The food here blew us away. Everything from the crispy chips and smoky spicy salsa, to my poblano mole chicken, to Jamie's chicken tortilla soup and salsa verde tamales (with an impossibly thin jacket of masa surrounding well seasoned moist porky goodness) was just outstanding, just as good as places with price points 2-3X more in trendy neighborhoods around the city. The sauces were complex and delicious, and generously applied to each of the dishes. We will be back soon, and share our new discovery with friends and family at every opportunity. We've been twice now. I love this place. The food is fantastic. I get tacos wherever I go. While these tacos may be a bit smaller, they are fantastic. The Boracha beans were better last time but when you're making beans, that's just the way it goes. The waitress we had today was obviously new. She hasn't yet learned to fill drinks before being asked. She hasn't yet learned to look at a table and see what is needed or to ask what else we need. It's fun to help train the new kids. I am visiting the area and was craving good Mexican food. I went to another Mexican restaurant that I found on Tripadvisor, but the wait was too long so I ended up here. Sooooo happy I did.The service was on point, the food had excellent taste, the portion was ridiculously large (I have lunch for tomorrow) and the prices were below what they could of charged for the quality. I had chicken fajita, which were so much better than the picture on their cover page. The chicken and onion on the skillet were seasoned well and great texture. My son had the beef enchilada with queso topping. He said it was one of the best he's had, and he too has leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I don't eat beans, but my son sad they were excellent too. Meanwhile, I loved getting to try 3 different sauces enchiladas and thought the food was solid as well. We didn't order anything else except the complimentary chips and salsa - the salsa was SPICY. Have been 4 times at lunch and 1 time for dinner. Top notch homemade salsa. Great chicken enchiladas slathered different ways, you name it: Sour cream sauce, salsa verde, salsa roja. Arguably the best chile relleno in East Dallas. It's big and crammed with fajita meat (or chicken or shrimp) and cheese and floating on a bed of a delicate and delicious tomato-based sauce. The relleno is lightly breaded and avoids the curse of "Too-much-breading-that-gets-spongy." Rice has some real flavor to it (for a welcome change from most Mexican restaurants!) and the black beans are also the best in East Dallas. At night, a good bartender to whup you up a margarita like you want it. We will return, again and again. read more

I will admit that I didn't do that much research bc there weren't many vegetarian friendly options. I ordered a frozen Casamigos margarita and queso while continuing to review the menu. I was also given chips and salsa. I ended up ordering the Enchiladas Mineras with tomatillo salsa along with rice and beans. I wasn't too impressed with the food. The tomatillo salsa was acidic and seasoning on the veggies was light. The rice and beans were cool. Salsa was cool. The queso wasn't the white queso I was expecting, instead it was a yellow queso which gave me cheddar vibes. My frozen margarita was really good! What a precious hidden gem! We were so happy to stumble into Emilio's on a cold, rainy night during the holiday break. Always a win to find a neighborhood Tex Mex spot. Was hoping for an authentic Mexican food experience. Chips were very stale and store bought and the queso wasn't white cheese. Pollo La Mexicana was so disappointing. They used what seemed to be a frozen chicken breast that was diced up--no fresh shredded chicken- like chewing rubber with some tomatoes. The sauce did not have much flavor either. When we first walked in, the place was full of smoke. We were hoping someone had just had fajitas brought to the table, but no, the smoke remained and even the bathroom was full of smoke. Maybe their exhaust system in the kitchen was broken ?, but it made for an uncomfortable dining experience. Really do not understand the 4 1/2 stars. Have had so much better Mexican food in DFW-especially for the price-wasn't cheap for Mexican food. read more

Tried Emilios one Friday night with a friend. We shared the Queso Flameado with chorizo for our appetizer. I ordered the chimichanga with fajita beef and my friend ordered sour cream enchiladas forthe entrees. We both had margaritas. The complimentary salsa was just okay. We added salt and that helped a lot. The margaritas were great and strong! The queso flameado was delicious. The chorizo was a perfect addition. My friend didn't love her enchiladas. I tasted them. The sour cream sauce was interesting and the chicken was pretty dry. However, my chimichanga was really good and flavorful! It was definitely enough to share so I gave her some and she also loved it. We love going to Emilio's! The food is a big step up from typical Tex-Mex. The beef enchiladas are a go to because the chili con carne is excellent. Not a gloopy mess but a light, flavorful sauce with ground beef chunks throughout. I love chicken mole enchiladas and this is a standout dish here! The service has always been friendly and attentive. My only knock is the chips aren't great. Taste like older chips from a bag. You find this at a lot of restaurants so not that big of a deal. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor, and give Emilio's a try! read more
