Food is always great no matter what you order. Tacos albañil and de pescado both hit the spot! Margaritas go perfectly with dinner!

We ordered the highlighted ones in the menu, Steak Argentina and the Desperados Tacos. It's probably their specialty so we thought it was going to be good. The tacos was okay. The beef in the tacos was tender and good flavor. The salad that came with it was lack luster. It came with refried beans and it was also okay. I did not try the Steak Argentina since I did not particularly care for the presentation. My hubby finished it but I could tell he also did not care for it. The beef was already cut into cubes and was sauteed with the chimichurri sauce. They gave complimentary chips but the salsa that came with it was so-so. read more

The building is fine, the decor is fine. There was no wait we were seated right away in a section serviced by "Chris". Chris was very pleasant, but certainly not ready for prime time. He didn't know the menu and didn't understand how to answer typical questions posed at Mexican restaurant. He asked, "What kind of d of meat do you want? Beef or chicken?" I replied, "What kinds of beef do you have?" I expected to hear, shredded, ground, maybe fajita or carne asada? Nope he said, "The regular kind." Umm, ok, as opposed to the "irregular" kind?!? C'mon man! I was more precise in my questioning by offering each type that I thought might be a possibility. We agreed on one and I ordered the chimichanga. This thing is covered in something they call sour cream sauce that tastes nothing like sour cream. It was reminiscent of an undercooked béchamel sauce. It was pasty and flavorless. I'd pass on that sauce. The beef, to its credit was nicely seasoned and quite flavorful which is quite a surprise given the substandard quality of the rice and beans, both flavorless as though they'd been boiled in tap water then served. Speaking of beans, we asked Chris for a bowl of refried beans to dip our chips in while waiting for our entrees. God bless his soul, that young man reappeared with a bowl of boiled beans in a flavorless water. One might assume they were meant to be charro beans, but you'd never guess that in a blindfolded taste test. Do yourself a favor and pass on this place. I think that they mean well but their cooks (certainly not chefs) don't "cook" that well and their server doesn't understand the menu anyway. read more

Been a while since I've been in but saw an Instagram Reel on one of there tacos that I wanted to try (but chose something else). Anyway.. started with the Queso Bandido, loaded with beef and pico, very good, but their chips are thicker and not as flavorful. I got an Avacado Margarita which was good (different) was hoping it to be blended but they don't have a blender? I ended up ordering the Brisket Tacos, they were good, meat tender but could have had a little more flavor/seasoning. And my husband got the Crispy Beef Tacos which he said were good. The bartender was pleasant, gave good recommendations and very attentive. Not too busy when we were there, but starting to pick up once we were leaving. Quit somewhat dark dining area, not loud, able to have a conversation without screaming. Will definitely return to try the Tacos I originally went in for:) read more

Yuck the food is terrible. I ordered the enchilada plate rice and beans and the beans tasted so bad. They had no flavour they were runny and so nasty tasting. I could hardly eat them. The rice was ok and the enchiladas could be better they were a little small and didn't really please me. I doubt I will be back because the food is so nasty here. read more

Ordered take out for my birthday. I had the chicken fajitas and my wife had the Enchilada Camaron. The Fajitas: The chicken was a grilled breast sliced, the onions were half raw. Only had one tiny slice of red pepper and an even smaller piece of green pepper. Chicken was fully cooked, but on the dry side with no flavor. The Enchiladas Camaron were covered in a spicy green sauce that kept going. One the inside the shrimp were spicy. And we thought we picked a mild dish for my wife. Disappointed in both meals. Visiting Dallas for the weekend and friend thought let me show them so Dallas Mexican. I was a bit considered at first. However we were nicely greeted upon entering after easily finding parking on a Friday evening. After finding our friend tucked away in the back of the restaurant, the waitress, promptly got us our friend's very quickly which I appreciated. I ordered the flautas which were decent. The meat didn't have overly much flavor. However, I really enjoyed the red salsa that came with the chips so I just used that rather than the salsa sour cream combo provided with my meal. The tortilla soup bowl came as a decent portion and the beef Al carbon were good enough that my husband devoured them before I could get a photo. After finding a chunk of plastic in our ceviche at our last visit, we decided to give this place a last chance. We've loved this place for decades and have never had issues. But when we did, they were brushed aside and not addressed. We came back today and are quickly realizing we won't be back. We ordered the carne asada which as the menu states it has caramelized onions AND peppers on it topped with MELTED cheese. See the pictures? Where are the peppers? And how are RAW onions considered caramelized? And how is that room temp blob supposed to be MELTED cheese? I did a la cart so that I could try different things. I had the desperado beef taco. It was delicious with fajita type meat. I had some refried beans and charro type beans, both were delicious. I had a chicken flauta. It was perfect. So good I ate it all. Also had queso. It hit the spot. Place was very clean. The service was fast and friendly. I will definitely go back for more. We arrived in Dallas a little past the dinner hour and I was very hungry! My husband looked for a place near the hotel we would be checking into and he found Desperados. I'm so glad he did! We were greeted nicely by the hostess. Since it was later than the typical dinner hour, they were not very busy. Someone brought water and chips and salsa over as soon as we were seated. The salsa had a nice little bit of kick to it. We checked out the menu and made our choices. We each ordered a margarita and the Desperados tacos. I got mine with beef and my husband got one with beef and one with chicken. He said they were both good, but the beef was better. They came with refried beans, but I don't like them so I ordered no beans. My husband said they were really good though. The service was great! They didn't hover, but they were on top of service! As we were leaving, we started talking to the hostess and she walked around the restaurant with us and gave us a little history. It's a cool place! I was impressed. This is the original Desperados and I'd only been to the Garland location. We were here for a birthday party. This is obviously an older restaurant that's weathered a lot, but the ambience was nice, there was a definite sense of a place with longevity and history, everyone we spoke to was great and our waiter was amazing! The food was not the best Mexican I've ever had but solid. I didn't regret any of my choices, including the steak fajitas. read more

Been coming to Desperados most of my adult life and almost always get the Desperado tacos. Noticed last couple of visits that they didn't taste the same like the beef in the tacos was tougher and not as flavorful, little or none of the delicious melted cheese since I couldn't se or taste it. Then tonight found that had changed the menu and taken the stuffed jalapeño peppers off as well as other old staples. Service was super slow and we had ask for a waiter just to get water. So I Googled if it had changed hands and yes, the family sold. So I checked if it was sold to an investment group and sure enough, the death knell for good independent businesses. Menu smaller. Service worse. Food declined. Even the chips were worse. Another fave goes down. RIP Desperado's. read more

Met with my cousins to celebrate my Birthday for lunch and we had amazing time. Great food and enjoyed the happy hour margaritas waiter Saul was excellent made my day extra special truly appreciate it. Asked him for food recommendations and he explained and everything he suggested was delicious. Thank you will definitely come back to visit again. read more

My wife and I decided to stop in here to kill sometime and let the traffic die down on 45. This was the first time that we've been here and I will definitely come back. Came here on Monday October 2nd, our party of 3 ordered a range of items from the tex-mex options like enchiladas, shrimp tacos, beef tacos etc. Place was pretty empty for a weekday, service was very prompt and speedy. First impressions walking in is that the outside seems very authentic and homey. The inside is kind of dark - made me feel like I was in an underground bar. I was hoping for something a bit more lively. Food was very good, arrived very fast. Portion wasn't huge but decent and at a great price. Nothing to go too crazy about, but it fit the bill for what we wanted. I would recommend it for a no frills dinner or lunch options. read more

Terrible place living In the past touting award winning This and that from 1995. Gnats swarming our table inside and warm air coming out of the vents on a 92 degree day. Onto the food - just bad overall. Chips stale, Guac uninspired and slopped on a plate. Wife's quinoa bowl outright sucked with precooked chicken and chipotle sauce laden into the dish that was supposed to be lighter choice. The food is the kind of savory well crafted cuisine I remember fondly from Mexico City. Unique flavors and great presentations. Only downside is it's a bit noisy, but that doesn't affect the wonderful food. The Camironies Ouaca were amazing and their ceviche is perfect. read more

We stopped by here for a late lunch on Sunday and had a pleasant experience . We started off with the stuffed jalapeños and I got the crabmeat enchilada while my fiance got the chimichanga with beef . Overall, the food was good and the servers were very attentive. Desperado beef taco and the La margarita are delicious. They don't use a mix for the margarita. The margaritas are so fresh and flavorful. The taco shell on the desperado tacos is RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS. No matter what you order here make sure you order at least one desperado taco you won't regret it. Came here on an awful workday and hey, I felt a whole lot better afterwards! As you walk into this family restaurant, you immediately will feel a sense of warmth. I don't particularly love margaritas BUT I did like their house margaritas! Service was prompt and the food came out quickly. The salsa and chips were on point and you could tell they were made fresh. We had both the chicken and beef desperados tacos, which were great. I also had the Argentina steak, which I thought was cooked well. However, I thought the chimichurri did not match my expectations, but still decent regardless.
