The best thing I can say about the folks at Emission Time is that I feel very sorry for them. They seem incredibly unhappy to be at work and to have to speak with customers. I stopped in after being referred to them as experts in the I/M field and it couldn't have been more clear they had zero interest in helping me. After being barked at by the guy in the shop area to go to the other side of the unmarked building I then was treated to the peak of "why are you bothering me" attitude from the desk guy. Desk guy also was thoughtful enough to throw in the experience of being interrupted mid-sentence while trying to discuss the unusual situation with my car. Guys working today at ET, please take my advice and get jobs that don't involve customer care, it's not your strong suit. read more

I came here to get my registration and my emissions done for DMV. Luckily I found a Groupon deal so it helped with savings in my pockets. Appointments are done online and it's really simple to do. I scheduled an appointment online after I found a Groupon my discount on emissions. I took my car in for inspection emissions. I expect it to stay at least an hour and a half because you know when you go take your car somewhere they always make you wait. I walked in sat down and proceeded to start watching a movie. Not even 10 minutes into my movie the girl behind the counter is saying okay you're ready to go! What?? Wow! That was fast! I'm talking way fast! My second time here was a complete different experience. I made an appointment and showed up early. The mechanic saw that there was a line and complained out loud and said to wait for the other employee. I then continued to wait till my appointment time (which is fine) although other people were late for their appointments and taken in front of me. Other people were having issues as well and the customer service was terrible. One customer came in for an oil change and they gave her an emissions test. They then proceeded to tell her that she can't get her oil changed until Tuesday even though she had an appointment today (on a Friday). The whole team seemed generally upset to have customers. Not sure what has happened in the last year or two, but I won't be back. read more

Very nice and professional front desk employee who explained everything to me in ways I could easily understand. As a 24 year old woman, I HATE going places that have to do with car repair...I have been taken advantage of many many times, but used a Groupon to get brake pads replaced (Jiffy Lube told me mine were extremely worn down, to a dangerous level), and to get safety/emissions done. I was surprised to find out that I, in fact, didn't need new brake pads, and that they were still at 95%. Since I had bought a Groupon, the mechanic told me to come back in 6 months when I would actually need new brake pads and they would replace them for free. I was so happy to finally find a place that didn't take advantage for my lack of knowledge of cars/repairing cars, and was straight up and honest with me. I HIGHLY recommend this place. I could not be happier about the experience I had. The great experience started with their online appointment book. I was happy to know I would be expected when I got there and I even got a reminder about my appointment the day before. When I got there they were ready to go. Fastest and easiest time I've ever had with emissions/safety inspections. I got the groupon, then scheduled my appointment online (they seem to fill up quickly some days, like the end of the month, ha). The Salt Lake location is right off the State Street exit on I-80. By the time I was inspected and paid, I was in and out in about 10 minutes. Inspections are generally not happy experiences, but I left smiling, a usually obnoxious task was done quickly and efficiently. I brought my car in for an 11:15 appointment for a simple oil change that I scheduled ahead of time online and confirmed with their receptionist the day before. The employees acted super confused and flustered and took a full ten minutes to get around to checking me in. They said it'd take a few minutes longer than usual, so I asked if they could call me to let me know when it was done. Two hours later I came back because I was now close to missing my next appointment and my car was sitting in the lot. After waiting another 15 minutes for them to return from lunch I asked if I could pick it up. They told me they hadn't even touched my car yet. So this 30 minute scheduled appointment took over two hours out of my day and I still didn't even get my oil changed. No one tried to warn me they were close to that delayed or tried to make up for it after the fact. The guy just told me, "yeah, that's not my job." The sticker comes with an extra fee for convenience compared with buying it directly from the state. They also unplugged a bunch of stuff in the car, moved the seats and didn't return them to normal. Had the worst experience here. Front desk lady helped to see if the car was ready for emission because I just gotten the car back from my mechanic shop. Finally, got the car on the machine reader and didn't think twice about. Done this many times, then NIGHTMARE started. First it was I felt uneasy that the front desk clerk doing the testing. That was a RED FLAG. Then she starts looking around, under the hood and car. Next, she says to me that my CATY (catalytic converter) is not there. She looked everywhere and she doesn't see it. Then she tells me to look under my car said that I straight piped and she could see the weld marks. I said, "there's no way", looked and didn't see anything like that. All you can see was the plastic undercover. I tried to explain to her that she's mistaken. I even called my mechanic in case I missed something, he said it's there and she didn't know what she's talking about. He advised me to take it somewhere else. I pleaded with her that if she was so sure of herself to lift up the car and get her the shop tech to get a second opinion. At this point she wouldn't have it. She made up her mind like she instantly became an certified BMW expert. She even told me she's been doing this for over 10 years. Then she lied and said my certificate said that I failed the CATY. Later on, I looked at her cert. and it said CATY was READY. She made me pay her for the full service $35 and told me I had 30 days to fix the problem. So in case you didn't know. Whom ever is doing the emission is suppose to make a visual check to look for the CATY. This is where the whole thing becomes the OPINION of person in charge. And if you get an inexperienced power tripping person, GOOD LUCK... After I left, I went straight to another shop. We're talking within 20 minutes. He popped the hood and showed me exactly where the 2 CATY are. It was right there, in your face. Hooked up to the machine and first thing he got was a message to call the Utah environmental health dept. Even the tech guy said he never seen this before. He told me that he couldn't do anything at this point because someone called in my VIN and flagged my car to be CONDEMNED. I was beside myself! I couldn't believe a routine emission got my here, that she would go out of her way to call the authority and wanted me to suffer all because I questioned her opinion. I've never dealt with the HEALTH Dept. before, I didn't know what was going to happen. Right after I called and got an appointment right away. Drove to the Dept. and got my emission done without a hiccup. They were really nice, and the service technician was a real professional. She knew exactly what she was doing and she pointed exactly where the CATY was in case anyone else tried to tell me otherwise. They didn't even charge me, gave me and cert, and even apologized for the trouble I had. read more

I said the only reason I did the test was because you said I had to for the sticker. So I spent $30 on a completely useless service and wasted my time. Emission Time is running a scam with their U-Haul dealership! I returned a truck after driving a little over 30 miles, put in $15.55 of gas, and they claim that the truck came back with a 1/8 tank (instead of the 1/4 tank when I returned it ). The person at the register when I turned the truck in said she was backed up, that there were 4 people ahead of me, and that she would email me a receipt instead - I guess she thought I wouldn't actually read the receipt! If they are running a scam with their U-Haul rentals, you can be damn sure they're running a scam with the rest of their services as well. Run away from this business as fast as you can - don't get scammed like I did!!! read more

I received the worst service I have ever received in my life at the emission time on state street. I will NEVER come back to emission time ever again. To make it simple, I came in to renew my tags as they are a location that will accept DMV registration payments. There was no one inside the office, just one man working on a car. I popped my hard out after waiting a few minutes and let him know I was in the office. He says: it'll be a few minutes. That's fine, so I wait fifteen minutes for him to come inside when he finishes. I give him my registration and my card to pay. He says he has to key it in. Okay, there's a card reader right in front of me but whatever. He keys it in and says: your card is declined. Ummm... okay? The card has plenty of money, and I checked it right there to make sure it was available. Then I ask him where the ATM is located and he says: there's a 7-11 down the street. Okay, fine. I get in my car, drive to 7-11, withdraw the money from the account and come back. I offer the cash and he says: we don't take cash. What?! I just asked you for an ATM, why would I need that unless I am getting the money to pay you?! So I ask him as much. He just looks at me like I'm dumb as a box of rocks. I called this place before I came and even offered to make an appointment, which was refused and I was told to just walk in. They could have told me at anytime that it was card only. There was no sign posted to that effect either. So after he refuses my cash, I offer him the card, as I have enough to cover on the card anyway. He takes the card and then when I ask him why he would send me on a wild goose chase, he said: you asked for an ATM, I'm just trying to help you. Really?! So I told him that he was less than helpful. At that point he refused to help me and handed me my card back with my original registration. I have never seen the likes of it in my life. I went to emission time even when it was out of the way for me. I will never go back again, even if this were the last shop in town. It was a ridiculously frustrating experience, I was told it would take me five minutes, and after all was said and done, my registration still isn't done and I wasted over an hour of my time. read more
