This was my first time coming here. I had bad catalytic converters on my 4 runner and they quoted me right then and there. They treated me well at the desk as well as the mechanics in the shop. They got it done that day. My only problem, They did not replace my 21 year old head stud bolts which is gonna give me issue's down the road and thought was common practice especially for a muffler shop. After my disastrous experience with Master Auto Tech, I stopped by Ray's Muffler. this place is very clean and organized. the people at Ray's muffler are professionla and courtous. Gregory helped me and answered my questions, he is very friendly and knowledgeable. They installed a Magna stainless steel straight-through muffler with a lifetime warranty as opposed to the other guy's junk stock muffler for twice the price. My car has come alive because there are no baffles to restrict the exhaust flow and the increase in noise is barely noticeable, I feel lucky I found Ray's Muffler read more

I've never been treated that poorly by a front desk crew EVER. When I walked in to get an oil change, 2 guys were standing behind the counter and didn't look up or say hi for at least 30 seconds. Then when the guy finally looked at me, he barked, "What year is your car. Address. Do you have keys." There was no "hi" and no smile.. just angry men who glared at me the whole time. Every ounce of me wanted to leave, but I drove all the way there and my oil needed to be changed so badly, so I stayed. I'm not sure if they're just horribly rude, if they had a hard day, or if they're racists, but I've never felt more unwelcome.. I will never go back. read more

They told me it would take a few days to get the parts and fix an oil leak, but they were able to get the parts and fix the leak on the same day I brought it in! My wheel was also about to fall off, but they fixed that and they had me come back so they can check on it and make sure that I'm all good. I'm very satisfied with the service I received and I will be going back for future needs. read more

***FRAUD ALERT*** I went into this shop yesterday to inquire about upgrading my exhaust. I spoke with a salesperson named Dustin Bishop and asked specifically if they stocked Flowmaster (I have used this brand on past vehicles and have heard from others that it would be a good match for my vehicle). He informed me that do carry Flowmaster, but wasn't sure if they had any in stock for my vehicle. He said they also carried some Magnaflow products as well as some foreign equivalents to Flowmaster that might suit me. We then moved to the shop where his team cut out my old muffler and let me hear the difference between 3 different products, assuring me that any one of the options would increase air flow and ultimately increase efficiency and performance, albeit a probable unnoticeable bump. The 3rd unit produced a good sound while my vehicle was on the rack, and the price was reasonable too. When I asked him what brand that specific one was, he replied "FLOWMASTER". I agreed to purchase that muffler and have it installed for $150. Here are the problems that followed: When Dustin rang me up, he included over $19 worth of shop supplies that were never mentioned when I was quoted $150. I didn't argue this at the time, not knowing whether or not this was standard (I'm not savvy in this industry, and I didn't want to sound whiny over $20). When I left the shop, the sound produced while driving was not anything like the sound in the shop. Although disappointed, I accepted this, knowing that varying factors would produce different results than experienced at the shop. Next, I did a "test drive" to see if there would be a noticeable difference in power. Not only was there no noticeable increase, there was a VERY significant DECREASE in power in the low end RPM's in second gear. Next, I got under my vehicle to take a look at the unit that they installed. I expected to see "Flowmaster" embossed somewhere on the muffler, but all I could find was a numeric part number "77443". I did a google search for that number, which returned results indicating that THEY INSTALLED A LOW-END, KNOCK-OFF BRAND called "Lawson". I quickly grabbed the Ray's Muffler receipt to see what they rang me up for, and it was invoiced as "Chinese Flowmaster Muffle". Obviously upset about being misled and lied to, I returned to the shop the next day. On my way to the shop, I refueled and was also surprised to find that my MPG had DECREASED by more than 3 points. When I returned to the shop, I was greeted by Dustin Bishop again, who acted defensive and rude before I even started explaining why I had returned. Although I was polite and calm in explaining my concerns, he was unwilling to do anything to make restitution, citing that he'd be losing money all the time if he swapped out mufflers when people weren't happy. We went back and forth for a few minutes, reiterating my position that he had told me he was installing a name brand, but instead installed a knock-off. He tried appeasing me, assuring that the knock-off brand was every bit as good as the authentic part. While still insisting that my claims were invalid, he offered to swap it out for $95, which he claims is the difference in cost between the two units (although the authentic unit can be purchased for $75 privately). When I brought this up, he said they needed to make up on the labor side too. Frustrated and short on time, I told him I would like to speak with his manager Steve at the Bountiful location. When I contacted Steve just 5 minutes after leaving the shop, he was already apprised of the situation and had immediately begun to defend his employee and the company before I even begun to explain my side of the story. He acted rushed and impatient, and told me he would call me back when his shop was slower. When I received his return call, he said he didn't want to discuss the details any further, but offered to install the authentic part for $65 more. I told him that I already paid to have an authentic part installed, and that I would like to receive what I paid for. He then became belligerent and started accusing me of being the type of person who isn't ever satisfied, called me a liar, then told me he didn't have time to deal with people like me. This was my first experience, an my last, with Ray's Muffler. I have since called several shops, all who say that the price I paid was what they charge for an authentic Flowmaster, complete with installation. Most shops I spoke with indicated that they have heard similar complaints about Ray's Muffler. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Ray's Muffler for future services. It's unfortunate that there are companies who represent themselves in this manner. Take your business elsewhere. Midas is just around the corner if you need exhaust work done. read more

Twice Ray's has handled problems that a dishonest shop could have charged hundreds/thousands to "fix." They were honest and both problems were fixed with ease and quickly. It's refreshining to know that such a dependable and honest company still exists. If you need repairs, you owe it to yourself to give them the first shot. These guys are the best!! They could have screwed me over but they saved me about 1000$ I was told my car was missing two catalytic converters. So I called Steve to find out when I could have this done. We talked and he did some research and found out what I was missing was resonators not cats. Thank you so much for your honesty. read more

I'm torn giving Ray's a great rating -- because I want to be selfish and have them all to myself. But I also want them to be wildly successful because they work so hard at being so incredible all the time. I used them once seven years ago on a recommendation from a trusted coworker. As long as they are around, Ray's is the last shop I will ever need. As others have written, they are honest to a fault. They work to make sure the real problem is found and fixed correctly. They find the best parts for the money -- they know they are, in the end, spending someone else's money. Go there. You'll be so happy. read more

Unhelpful and horrible costumer service. I went in because I could hear that something was lodged in my blower motor. I told the guy working that the blower motor needed to be looked at. He wrote down blower motor. Three hours later I get a phone call from the same guy telling me that they don't fix blower motors! He didn't even look at the motor, he could just hear that something was wrong with it. The worse part? He was so rude and condescending the entire time! I've had one another negative experience here, but this one pushed me to writing a review. read more

I believe Ray's Muffler Service in Bountiful does good, quality work. Unfortunately I also know that you will pay absolute top dollar for that work, and then some. They get their parts from NAPA, which means good parts. But they mark them up 30% to 50% or even more. One part they replaced for me includes a core refund. They charged me full price AND retained the core. On top of the huge mark up for parts, they charge shop labor. I know my brake pads cost no more than $50, and a well appointed shop should be able to replace them in no more than half an hour. So a final tally of $190 plus tax seems excessive. I was too busy/lazy to replace my own brakes, and I paid dearly for it. On the bright side, they do good work, are fast, and will smile at you while they overcharge you. read more

Another California fraud alert. My husband took my car out of town for business this past November.Unfortunately he had to have the catalytic converter replaced. My husband was assured by the texhnician that it would pass smog in California. Not only was the catalytic converter not compatable with the California Star Certified Smog station but my car is a 2002 and after calling the manufacturer the converter was for 96-98. The response from Rays Muffler was that we are just out of luck. I believe they knew by the time we realized we were ripped off we would be long gone and we would not find out until smog check time. We have to pay to have another converter after paying 429.49 to Rays Muffler just ten months. Unfortunately my registration is due so this issue cannot wait and we really just don't have the money but we will just have to pray on it.. Their lack of any wrong doing and unwillingness to help is disgusting. People that live there seem to be okay, but if you don't live nearby consider yourself warned.just like the other post from California. read more

I'm very disappointed in Ray's! I grew up here in Bountiful area and used to go with my Dad to get his cars fixed at Rays probably since they opened in 1970. In turn, I myself have always visited Ray's with out any seconds thoughts for any exhaust repairs for me and my family's 5 cars. Even my nephew who is a local mechanic would suggest to me and his customers to go to Ray's for exhaust work. Apparently the thought of local, helpful, friendly service has ended with the desk person I dealt with today (British accent gives it away. Can't be too many of those). My son's car has a broken tail pipe in-front of the muffler because he backed into a curb. I took the car in last Tues at 5 (knowing they close at 6). I just wanted someone to look at it real quick to confirm my assessment. Nope. I was told to leave it over night or come back. Not having a ride I decided to come back on the weekend. Saturday morning I arrive and leave it to be inspected. Their assessment was way more $$$ than expected and included replacing everything up to a couple feet behind the cat. I took the car home and crawled underneath it. Looked and tap sounded solid enough to me (admitting here, I am no mechanic). I decided to give them another chance to just fix what I asked for. I drove back an hour later and talked to the same English accented desk person. I told him I wanted to give them another chance for discussion with my new hands on personal assessment. I was told to go to another shop. So I went to another shop. Best advice I got. $45 and I got exactly the repair I was looking for. In fact the new shop person walked out with me and actually crawled under my car to do the quick look. I know this will be a temporary fix but I saved over $200 and I now have a new shop that will listen to me and my needs. David O read more

I am not sure why the other reviewer had problems since I have been going to Rays since the mid-1970s and have never had a problem. Rays is always my first choice when it comes to car repairs. They have always worked with me on the cost of repairs and never tried to upsell me. In fact, when I have had to take my car to another shop because Rays didn't provide the service I needed (example tires, transmission repair), the shops have tried to tell me I needed work done immediately on a different problem they "discovered". When I took the car back to Rays, they've examined the supposed problem and found nothing wrong. Now they could have sold me a repair and made the extra income and I never would have known the difference. But because Rays is an HONEST shop they didn't. Rays is the ONLY repair service that actually gives me the exact cost of the repair - not a estimate. I have never been surprised when the time came to pay the repair bill. There have been times when it was even lower than quoted because they were able to find the part at a lower price. I would highly recommend Rays to anyone. read more

When I went there I had to wait for a couple that was in front of me to finish which was fine but the guy seem to take longer than was need to talk to them like 10 or 15 minutes. Then before the couple left the phone rang and before he would acknowledge me he answered the phone so i had to wait about 5 minutes for him to talk to that person, which would have been fine if he would have said something to me before he picked up the phone. After he finished talking to the person on the phone I told him that the guy I bought my truck from had an exhaust put on it through them and that now the bracket has broken making the exhaust sage, so the metal has cracked making a huge leak in the exhaust. He told me he couldn't even look at it for 3 to 4 hours like how long does it take you to walk outside and look under someone's truck is that a huge problem for him. His answers were short and it felt like he would give me the time of day. I will just take my truck to someone else to get this problem fixed right. read more
