Really a nice place. It was a bit pricier than other options but their food is excellent. Their fish fry blows away Bulldog, they bring out a soup (the Shrimp Bisque was excellent), and a salad (for $2.00). They also have unlimited fish on Fridays so getting the fish fry makes great sense. Gideon, our server, was awesome and we thoroughly loved our meal. I can't believe I haven't put in a review for Emmets yet. I'm not one to go back - I always like checking out places I've never been to before. However - hubby and I do seem to end up back at Emmet's every couple of months and a beer, and depending on hunger, appetizers and/or dinner. So - ended up there this weekend. There's something comforting to me about the historic building and the worn patina of the beatifully done interior. I like the photos on the wall, the layout, the people watching - And the beer is really really good. I had Lobster fetuccini (sp?). It was delicious. So was the beer. Hubby had chicken-caesar salad - not bad, but not great - it's touted as "traditional" caesar salad, but there was not an anchovy to be tasted - so, if you like anchovy style dressing, skip ordering here. If you like creamy caesar dressing, then maybe give it a try. (For the record - we both like the anchovies - hard to find.... if anyone knows where to find that, send me a message!) We do occasionally get less-good service. This weekend was great, though the kitchen was a bit slow. However, I see that as an opportunity to enjoy the beer. Get ready for a wild ride. My husband and I visited for a wedding. There isn't much going on in West Dundee, as one can imagine. So we went to the Bird Conservatory and took some edibles (as you do in the great state of Illinois). By the time we got to the brewery, the munchies had started to set in and a few sips of my beer, I suddenly felt like hypnotoad and forgot how words worked. Thank god, my husband had ordered the pretzel sticks and gyoza. The horseradish mustard is so delicious that it offended my nostrils in the best way. My husband couldn't stop thinking about the Cheddar Ale Soup so we got some. The bartender came in clutch by informing us that the pretzel was in the oven too long and became a hero by bringing an additional breadstick. The soup was so good that my husband whispered to it to inform said soup that it was very rude for being so delicious. I accidentally got mustard in my hair. We went back to our hotel to watch Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. I hope you understand how high (heh) of an endorsement the food and beer is here. read more

I visited Emmett's with a large group of people this past weekend. I was pleased that we got what only could be called superior service; anything and everything that we asked for was taken care of smoothly and efficiently. This made our meal so much more pleasant and enjoyable! I tried the turkey burger which was a treat being topped with just the right amount of pesto sauce. I chose sweet potato fries for my side and would order them again. Both items were fresh and tasty. I have to say that I was slightly under-whelmed by Emmett's beers, but they were a solid 8-9 on a 10 point scale. I will have to visit again when I am not having a meal so that I can just focus on the taste of the beer. One person in our group ordered carrot cake and was brought a slice that looked like a quarter of a cake. Beware if you are not a hearty dessert eater or don't have at least 3 friends to help you polish off this mountain of a confection. The only negative is that parking is somewhat sparse around Emmett's. There is a fair sized parking lot behind their building but it was absolutely full at 2 PM on a Sunday. I am not sure where all the people that belonged to those cars went? Overall I felt that Emmett's is a notch or two above your average brewpub and at least one of those notches is the very good and friendly service. Went here with a large group for dinner and was very impressed by the food! Great sized portions and a decently extensive menu with something for everyone. The beer cheese soup deserves a special acknowledgement because it was phenomenal! Service was definitely slow, but I am assuming they (like everyone right now) are understaffed, because there were only two people running the dining room on a Saturday night. You would think that after Covid, restaurants will do their best to impress their guest, this restaurant did the exact opposite. The service was terrible, the food was subpar at best. unfortunately I have the occasion of eating at the emmets pub in Palatine Illinois and this location in West Dundee back to back. Each experience was worse than the other. I can't believe that a restaurant of this caliber would serve ketchup and ketchup packets as well as use napkins from the bar in the dining area. This place is clean, pretty decent service- fast and friendly. I like the ambiance of the front dining room over looking downtown West Dundee. I have had really good food here before, like stuff you would go write a 5 star review about but recently over the last few years I'm always disappointed by the menu selection. The food quality is still there but it's nothing special. The menu is pretty small and the items on there are kind of basic. I feel like they use to have a better menu. My husband and I stopped in around 2:30pm and we thought we would treat ourselves with a specialty ale and an appetizer. Our venture was very dissapointing. There was one table off the bar that had a couple eating..... there was no one at the bar, including a bartender. First time here a couple of days ago, service was perfect, out waitress was great! The place is very nice, sober and cozy feeling. We ordered drinks and appetizers. I loved everything as well as the rest of the group did. We had the calamari, delicious! You cant go wrong with this one, also had the portobello fries, which were kind of salty for me (and I adore salty food!) and the artichoke spinach dip, which was accompanied with pita like triangles, which was delicious! We have been here before, but last night the food really impressed. We sat at the bar so we could watch the basketball games. The service was friendly, efficient and helpful. I had a seasonal brew, an amber ale and my husband had their IPA. I think the price point is good for craft beer. We were told they recently had changed their menu and we were both torn about what to have because all the dishes sounded great. I had the roasted beet entree salad and it was terrific. Arugula, almonds, blue cheese, grilled chicken and the beets. Served with a vinaigrette. It was a great combination. My husband had the spicy pork sandwich. Pulled pork in a spicy sauce, with jalapeños and Swiss cheese served on an onion roll. I had a bite and it was really a great combination. We will be keeping this place in mind more often! read more

We waited so long to get cream for the coffee that the coffee got cold, butter did not follow the baked potato being served so I had to ask for that and wait......... Instant huge fan. The layout of their restaurant reminds me of Ted's Montana Grill, another favorite of mine. The interior has an old school restaurant-brewery feel with it's mahogany woodwork, black & white photo's and random decor. Like the other Emmett's, this one too is in a historical building which add's a lot of character. I chose Emmett's for the beer but I'll be honest, I was just as hungry after bowling and bocce down the street. Our waiter was quick to offer us samples of any beer and went over each in detail. I tried both porter's (Irish and Imperial) and the Hefeweizen. Porter's are generally a safe bet but neither struck a chord. The Hefe was excellent though, and saved the day. Dinner...I had the turkey club with sweet potato fries, a staple in my dinner diet. Both were top notch. If you care to do a where's waldo moment, be sure to spy the bear with a bowler. Had a good time at Emmett's this weekend. Tried a bunch of apps and had their craft beers. I totally recommend getting an app and the sampler paddle. They do the paddle for $3.50 w/an app purchase, and the paddle is five 5oz pours. As for the apps, I loved the CA flatbread, it was a hit with our group. The poutine was a little heavy on the gravy, but very good. The potato skins were standard fare. I didn't care as much for the grilled shrimp and the pretzels, I mean the pretzels are good, but nothing more than anywhere else. I would try both flatbreads next time. As for their beers, I really liked the Auto Pilot, a Session IPA, and the Peace Keeper, a wheat beer. In our group, all of our palates were fulfilled. Why four starts you ask, well the atmosphere was lame. We had fun ourselves, but for a Saturday night, I was worried that Emmets could be on its way out. I hope not, but they should up their social media game, special events advertising, and keeping their website up to date to being in a new, larger crowd. read more

It's like I have a brewery radar because whenever one is nearby I automatically want to eat at it. Trying new microbrews just makes me happy. I've been to the Emmett's in Palatine before and tried the red ale so this time I went with one of the seasonal brews--Honey Rye Ale. It was light and refreshing. My second beer was the regular Oatmeal Stout. This one was much darker and heavier but had great flavor. My friend graciously allowed me to try her smoked beer (hallis, I believe) and it was very....interesting. The smoked flavor was quite overpowering. I was having the hardest time deciding what to order for my meal. I took the advice of another reviewer and ordered the cheddar ale soup with the pretzel roll and loved it. It helped warm me back up too! I also ordered the small plate size of the pork belly taco with sweet potato fries. The fries were perfectly battered and nice and salty. The pork belly taco was just okay and the flavor just wasn't quite right to me. I love the small plate concept and was excited that it was on the menu as I get to try more things. I felt like I had the perfect amount of food. Service was good. Our server did seem to disappear for a bit after serving our food when I wanted to order another beer, but I think she was also serving patrons at the bar. I took my parents out to Emmetts on Father's Day and we all had a great time. Our waitress was very nice and polite, plus she had a great sense of humor. She really served us well. Our food was great. Portion size was very generous. My parents had pork, which was very lean and very well prepared. I ordered a black pepper crusted halibut, which was excellent. Beerwise, Emmetts is as good as, if not better than the now overly commercial Goose Island. We stopped by on our way home from Chicago, & were so glad we did! The service was great, the beer was refreshing & the beer was tasty. I had the Brut IPA, & my husband had the World's End IPA. We split the Smokehouse burger, which was good, & both got soup. The baked French onion could have used more cheese on top, but was still good. Our son got the Kraft Mac & Cheese, which he said was watery. Other than that, we were very pleased with our meal. They took great care with the COVID precautions. I usually go here on Tuesdays for their Burger specials so I'm not sure how the other nights are. The burgers here are big and juicy. I usually get mine done medium rare and it turns out about right. I wouldn't recommend medium if you want a little pink in the middle. Sometimes they overcook it. THE TUESDAY DEAL: $2.00 8oz. (1/2 lb) Angus burgers after 8pm with purchase of a drink. It's also a micro-brewery so u can sample their stuff. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes I've had spectacular service and other times iIve left only a dollar. The place gets pretty busy around 8pm so if you plan on checking it out I would call ahead to make a reservation -- just in case. ;-) Overall review for me is good burgers for the price. And if the service is good that night I usually hang out and spend more on drinks. read more

Emmett's is my "go to" spot. Great location and a great ambiance for a reasonable price. I love the smokehouse burger, and the cheddar ale soup (which come with a soft pretzel stick) is out of this world. The black bean burger is good if you don't eat meat. I've tried most of their beers, and as a rule they are all pretty solid (my favorite being the Anvil Stout). They also have seasonal beers. The dining room is quiet and the bar is lively. There are a couple of TVs in the bar, so you might be able to catch the game, but I wouldn't go there with the intention of watching the game. It is a great place for professionals to meet with friends after work on a Friday night. It's also a good date night place. The place is generally pretty busy at night on the weekend, so service can be slow, especially if you sit at the bar. read more

I asked for a Stella almost immediately. Duh...it's a brewery so they don't have beers besides their own. So the waitress quickly said they had one but they were temporarily out and she recommended some other options. I got the Melee? Entree choice was a no brainer bc they had a pretzle encrusted pork tenderloin with spaetzle. I, being a good German girl, immediately went for anything with spaetzle. My friend who was treating me to dinner for helping her with her move is a vegetarian, so she selected the whitefish entree that had capers and a white wine sauce, because um...yum. Placed our orders, I had a yummy beer cheese soup with one of the best pretzels I have ever had. Like I wish it had more. I didn't even get a picture that's how yummy it was. LOL. Let me preface the next bit with the fact that when we went, it was 7pm on a Sunday. Shortly after ordering the waitress came out and apologized to my friend but the whitefish was now sold out and could she get her something else. Which bummed her out bc how I felt about the spaetzle, she felt about the caper sauce. She selected fish and chips which I agree seemed like such a let down compared to this fancy pants dish she thought she would be getting 2 minutes prior. Manager came and apologized and offered dessert on the house to make up for the inconvience. Got our food. It was pretty good. My pork was a smidge on the salty side. But I def cleared the plate after not having any food the entire day and helping my friend pack. The sauce was tasty and the spaetzle lived up to my expectations. Just like Momma and Nana make! We selected the coconut cake to share. I wish it had been a little more on the moist side. I'm not sure if it was because we were there around 7pm on a Sunday or if the desserts are in generally like this. The whipped cream was amazing though. But can whipped cream ever be wrong? I would love to go back to try it again, maybe on a weeknight or earlier in the weekend to see if they were better stocked with food/beer. I love the ambiance of the wood and a modern old timey feeling of the decor. This is a nice place in West Dundee. Nice atmosphere and the service we received at the bar was good. We were only there for a few beers and the ones we had were OK. Nothing wrong with my experiences but just not my taste. I had the Octoberfest and my wife had the IPA. Both were good but I would try something different next time. We didn't have food but the meals we saw looked and smelled quite good. I would go again given the atmosphere and to try another few of their beers. I had a great time here with my husband, everything was phenomenal. Our waitress was great she not only was behind the bar but was serving us and happily sat us outside! The food came out very quickly and you could tell it was fresh. I got the chicken pasta dish while my husband got the fish. I am very picky and I ate almost all of it and he cleared his plate. My husband and I had been debating trying this place for awhile now and we're so glad we did! They just got their October fest beer in and another but I can't remember the name. We tried a taste of both and chose the Octoberfest. I ordered the cheddar ale soup and had the smokehouse burger for dinner. Our server suggested the truffle fries; definitely go with the truffle fries people! My husband had the whitefish for his entree and he loved that as well. We enjoy eating at Emmett's for lunch and we have held family dinners there too in the upstairs room. My favorite item on the menu is the cheddar ale soup, served with a warm soft pretzel. It is soooo good! I like to have the soup and half sandwich when I'm there for lunch. The Reuben sandwich is full of meat and served on your choice of bread. I have had their salads and they have also been excellent. One of my companions had the French onion soup and he was disappointed in it, but he may have just not liked the cheese they used. The drinks are good and the pours of wine are generous. Good Bloody Marys too. The service is slow, although the servers are pleasant and it appears the managers pitch in themselves when it gets busy. We will be back to enjoy that wonderful cheddar ale soup! read more
