Stopped by Empanada To Go while in the area definitely worth a visit! They offer both baked and fried options with a great variety to choose from. Each bite is packed with flavor, and don't skip the chimichurri sauce (it's extra, but worth it!). Portions are on the lighter side, so be ready to order more than one if you're hungry. Solid spot for a quick, tasty bite. Tell then team Smiley sent you.

"Empanadas to Go" offers a tasty Argentinian treat and we've tried almost all their offerings. On our most recent trip, we ordered dozen plus two, along with some extra Chimichurri sauce. All were made fresh as we waited (ten-fifteen minutes). The waiting area is kind of small and the staff was mostly in the back working. But the wait is worth it. See the photos. Look at those toasted beauties.

My family grew up eating Empanadas To Go, and I'm so happy to say the restaurant is still doing well! The empanadas were so delicious and filling, as always :) We had the beef, spinach&cheese, corn&cheese, spicy beef, and saltena- all baked. The dough/breading was soft yet still had a nice crisp layer. The inside was completely stuffed with ingredients (no air pockets)! The chimichurri sauce was perfect! Service was excellent! The cashier and the cook were both friendly and happy to help us. And our empanadas were ready within 5-10 minutes It's so good to be back :)

3% charge on all card transactions. Wow, can't believe I never tried this place until now. Grab and go spot, no seating. We got all of our empanadas fried and they weren't greasy to the touch at all. Texture of empanada shells are perfect; chewy but soft and not too dense while the outside was crispy. Chimichurri is really good but mostly oil. About 3/4 of the 2oz is oil and only the bottom settled portion is the other stuff. I prefer scooping my chimichurri with a fork to avoid most of the oil, I usually grab 2 for myself for every 3-4 empanadas. Saltena -so flavorful. Loved that the chopped steak added a different texture. Spicy Beef -olives added just the right amount of saltiness. Eggs are hard boiled and added some texture back into the ground beef. Spicy Chicken - less salty than the spicy beef but just as good. Carnitas -soft and tender.

Off the bookmarks. Out and about one day I looked up and the store was right in front of me . Located in a strip mall . It is a grab and go type of place . They have a few seats available for waiting outside . I spoke with another customer who had ordered a box full of empanadas. When I asked what they recommended they said it was their first time also and they bought based on word of mouth. Yes, word gets around about this place . I ordered 3 empanadas . 1 fried (dulce de leche )and 3 baked( spicy chicken and dulce de leche). The wait was not long at all. They were packaged in to go containers and tied up in a bag. I only tried the baked ones. The spicy chicken was good . The empanadas will come hot. There is no dining area so you might be like me and eat it in the car in their lot. No regrets. The empanadas come in at around $3 each. I also tried the chimichurri sauce and it paired nicely with my empanada. The dulce de leche empanada was as sweet as you'd expect it to be with a caramel undertone. The empanadas are small so keep that in mind when ordering .

Love this place. Great service. Chicken and beef empanadas that are baked are delicious. I love both fried or baked but these are better baked actually. Get the chimichurri sauce. Perfect pairing. Last minute orders they can do so fast! Great for parties. I highly recommend this place.

We can't say enough wonderful things about Empanadas To Go! They went above and beyond to prepare our order on a day they were actually closed over a holiday weekend, no less. That level of dedication and customer care is rare and truly appreciated. Not only was the service outstanding, but the food was phenomenal fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with love. We ordered Chicken, Beef, and Vegetarian Empanadas, and they were an absolute hit. You can taste the quality in every bite. And the pastries Arrollado, Pepitas, Canoncitos, and Palmertias were just as amazing. Thank you, Empanadas To Go, for exceeding expectations. You've definitely earned customers for life!

I get giddy when I find little treasures such as this. I had originally bookmarked this little…read moremarket because of their empanadas, but I found so much more. The market is small and cramped and packed to the gills with Latin American and Spanish goods. They have good looking produce, a nice big butchery, multiple freezers and refrigerators filled with specialty items that will make your brain work on overtime. The way the deli works for buying their prepared food is different from some. You must first place your order at the back counter. You will receive an itemized ticket which you must take up front to the cashier. Then, you return to the back to show your proof of purchase receipt and then you get your food, bagged and ready. The total wait for us was about 10 - 15 minutes, not bad. I get it, why they have to do it this way, but it is time consuming and inconvenient at best. We did get some empanadas. They are fried, not baked, so have an extra good crunch with every bite. There are two ground beef fillings, i.e. two different recipes. Three were the wonderful filling that has green olives (my favorite), and one that was described as spicy beef (that really was not all that spicy). Both were delicious, and their dough was flaky. This could easily become one of my favorite destinations for a reliable empanada. Besides the deli empanadas, there was a nice selection of empanada disc's (round pastry wrappers) in the freezer section if you are inclined to make and stuff them yourself, and frozen empanadas made by Goya in yet another freezer. I also convinced myself I needed to buy two tamales. One Guatemalan, the other Peruvian. These are sold frozen and are ordered at the deli counter. Haven't tried them yet, but I am excited because they are not so easy to find. Other products that caught my eye included a fascinating collection of sausages, chorizo, morcilla (blood sausage), Spanish linguiça, Spanish chorizo, smoked meats (Corte's brand), smoked herring, quail eggs, and other imported delicacies. Perhaps I will not need to drive all the way to La Española in Harbor City anymore for Spanish imports? They sell a very comprehensive list of Goya brand products and prepared foods. I grabbed a bag of ready to eat sweet plantains from the freezer as well. All so tempting. By the time I had perused the whole store and was headed to the cashier, my guard was completely down. There it was... freshly baked goods critically placed next to the cashier so you can't miss them. Soft crust baguettes and rolls in baskets, and small, sweet pastries and cookies in their bakery case. There were several pastries that looked very special, some featuring custard or quince filling. We, of course, had to buy some. I have already tested the one filled with the quince and topped with finely grated coconut. It was outstanding, not very sweet. The dough was lightly brushed with egg yolk for a rich, beautiful finish. These were super fresh and very tender. The baked goods are delivered fresh from an Argentinian bakery in Burbank. This is a great find! Not your usual small neighborhood grocery. I am very excited to return.

Who said you can't review a closed restaurant? I checked Yelp's policy, and there's no restriction…read moreon reviewing a closed one. But why am I writing about food from a restaurant that has already closed? Let's begin the story. It was January 2023 when I walked into the restaurant. A Messi poster in WPAP (Wedha's Pop Art Portrait) style was hanging on the wall, and a FIFA World Cup Trophy sat on the counter. It was less than a month after Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with Messi as the team leader. They were also selling thermos flasks and phone cases painted with the Argentina football team. I had known this was an Argentine restaurant for a long time, dating back to 2016. I used to live in Glendora Village, just a ten-minute walk to the restaurant by crossing the railway. I didn't know the word "empanadas" before I came to Rika's, even though I had eaten similar food before. In China, there is Uyghur/Muslim food called "baked dumplings," stuffed with seasoned minced lamb, which are almost the same as empanadas. Compared with deep-fried empanadas, Rika's baked version was less oily, with more wheat flour aroma. Their empanada wrap also had a hint of sweetness, which made it very special. The first time I walked past the restaurant, on a random afternoon in 2016, I ordered four different empanadas to take away. At that time, they were $2.35 each. The restaurant was so kind that they wrote the flavor names on the food box. I still remember the experience-those empanadas were hot, aromatic, cheesy, and well-balanced. I was too full to have dinner that night. Later, I brought my family and friends to dine there. Not only were the empanadas delicious, but the deep-dish pizza, salads, and other dishes were also excellent. Let's talk about the empanadas. They had 16 different fillings, from simple ones like beef, sweet beef, spicy beef, ham & cheese, blue cheese, and onion & cheese, to more unique ones. What was interesting was that each filling had its own shape. Regular beef was half-round, sweet beef had both corners folded up, spicy beef had only the left corner folded up, and so on. FATAY (Arabian empanadas) were triangular, while bacon & prunes were square. I tried almost all the different fillings, and they were all good--never disappointing. Even after I moved to Pasadena, I still went back there. Then COVID-19 came. The restaurant closed for a short while, then reopened for takeout only, no dine-in. By June 2022, the price had risen to $2.85 each. By January 2023, it was $3.10 each. By June 2025, they closed permanently. I miss Rika's empanadas. I hope the chef is still baking them somewhere else. If so, please let me know.

The toppings were generous and very flavorful, and the crust enhanced the toppings. This Four Seasons Pizza was perfect and convenient. Everyone in my family got what they wanted. Finally, I got  nutella Sweet crepe (5/5) for dessert. It had nice texture and the chocolate hazelnut was rich and creamy. We enjoyed our dinner ,verything was delicious and flavorful.. It is a great food to try! I definitely recommend Rika's Empanadas.

I saw their pizzas which got my attention, but when I visited, I opted for one of their Argentinian (sausage or choripan) sandwiches and an empanada. I thought both were very tasty and the bleu cheese empanada I got was interesting. Never had one with bleu cheese before - at least from what I can remember. The bread on the sandwich was great! Not sure if they bake it in house, but it had a nice slight crunch and chew. Just note that this place operates as Furnos and Guido Deli & Pizza. As I understand it, the old name is still up as a homage to the previous owner who served the community for a long time. The space itself is pretty chill. It's pretty tiny, so I believe most of their business is take out. There are a few small tables outside if you want to eat there though. We peruse the menu and at first decided on just 2 empanadas but the cook/owner(?) told us we had to get 3 to get the chimichurri so we got chicken, veggie and beef. As we're looking at the menu for entrees, he reaches into the prep drawer and puts the empanadas in the fryer with bare hands then comes back to register and continues taking our order. We ended up getting chicken shawarma and chicken kabob, both of which I guess come with grilled veggies and were all bare handedly placed on the grill...then the same hands came back and touched the register repeatedly. Honestly this grossed me out a bit but at the same time, I'm pretty sure this happens in most kitchens without me knowing since they're not as open as this place. The seating and decor area was also not that clean, he told us to let him know if a table was dirty when we sat down so he could clean it...shouldn't this be something that's already taken care of? Forks and napkins were put out in the open for anyone to grab, something else that wasn't very sanitary. Regardless, the empanadas were slightly greasy but had flavor, the chimichurri sauce was good. Both entrees were super generous and tasted good, we did end up taking the rest to go bc it was so much food. I would recommend that this restaurant do a bit of cleaning and tidying up as well as practice better food handling process.
