The food here is very good, and the staff always welcoming. Don't let the low rating keep you away. Before tonight, it had been close to a year since we'd last dined here. In the past my husband and I both agreed that everything was cooked and presented well enough, but completely lacked flavor. However, on a whim, my husband went there for lunch earlier this week and told me it was really good this time, as if maybe it was a different kitchen staff. So he suggested we go again tonight to see what I thought, and I'm happy to report that he was right. It all tasted as good as it looked, and it looked darn good! So good that I even forgot to take pictures because we dug in so fast! Everything had plenty of flavor and the portions were generous. I had the #11, which was General Tso's chicken, almond chicken, pork fried rice, and a spring roll. My husband had the #1, which was pork egg foo yung, chicken chow mein, sweet-and-sour pork, and pork fried rice. Both combos included soup, which tonight was creamy potato and chicken. We'd never had that before, but I hope to have it again! It was perfect on a cold winter evening. Honestly, every dish was delicious. The General Tso's in particular was excellent, but for sure I'd order either combo (or anything else!) again. The hostess deserves a mention as well, because she was friendly and efficient, setting the tone for the rest of the meal. I've ordered from this place a few times since I've lived here and each time I've been pleased with the service and friendliness when taking my order and the quality of the take out. Ordering Chinese food is one of the more challenging cuisines for those of us with a no choice membership to the ihateglutenclub. Ordering for Celiac allergy can always be complicated but at this place, they have been very helpful and do their best to make it straightforward. They are aware about gluten and usually offer me alternative sauces without soy or teriyaki. I've had the cashew chicken and the almond chicken both with a garlic sauce. Obviously it's not that great umami flavor I remember with delicious Chinese food sauces, but it's still a delicious way to eat some chicken n veggies. I didn't receive anything correct or worth even $5. I have no idea what they gave me but none of it was identifiable or even seasoned. It all tasted like it was sitting on a buffet warmer for 5 hours and I got the scrapes of after looking at pictures on Yelp realized was supposed to be Cashew Chicken. I got celery, peas, some ground bits of mystery meat, carrots, it tasted more like a bland chicken pot pie filling next to dry fried rice. The sweet and sour pork was atrocious, dry pucks of fried bits not even tossed in sauce. My husband's orange chicken had orange slices that still had the peel on it. Despite the mixed reviews, we decided to give Emperor's Palace a try and actually really enjoyed it. We placed an order for pickup and it was ready right on time. We got the combo meal with orange chicken, sweet & sour pork, a spring roll, and pork fried rice. The fried rice was nothing special, but the orange chicken was tangy (a nice vinegar taste too) and the pork was very yummy! Spring roll was crispy, but the inside was a little soggier than I'd prefer. The General Tso chicken was also great - flavorful sauce, lots of veggies, and good spice to it (ordered "medium" level). Overall, pretty good food and I am bummed we waited so long to try it! We will be back again. read more

Lunch and dinner specials are incredibly cheap and could easily feed 2 people for each plate. Service can be hit or miss but the cleanliness and food quality always haa me coming back. read more

One of the most disturbing Chinese dishes I've ever received. I'm pregnant and was really craving some good Chinese food. I was so disappointed, and I asked could I have another dish. The lady said I can't get another dish, and I couldn't get a refund. After asking her several of times do they have a no refund policy written, and not by mouth. She stated if I give you a refund that means you can't come back. I told her that's fine with me. I mean what am I losing the food was disgusting. I just don't understand why they're telling me I can't get a refund when I just read a review that someone got a refund. Someone needs to teach that big girl at the front that customer service comes first, and that includes not lying to them. I hate to say this but at first I thought it was because of my skin tone. After looking at the other reviews I see she's just a disrespectful person. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Seriously wish I could go in there and teach them a thing or two my darn self. The food was bland and tasteless. The gravy for the almond chicken was disgusting and basically cornstarch with some flavoring. There pad thai was terrible, fat noodles, the bean sprouts were withered and cooked to almost gone. Nothing else as a vegetable seen in the dish. I have held out for 4 years by not ordering food from here. Two days ago I paid $31 for some egg drop soup and crispy spicy beef. The beef was sickengly sweet and soggy and with the first bite i took, i felt something hard. Thinking it was a bone, i spit it out and it was a STAPLE. I've seen it on my way home all the time but I never stopped. We ordered delivery and it was fast. We ordered teriyaki chicken and Mongolian beef with white rice and one egg roll. First of all the portions are huge you could feed a family of 4 with what we ordered, the teriyaki chicken was tender and flavorful and the Mongolian beef was so delicious with the onions not being overcooked, the egg roll was good but nothing to brag about. I recommend this specially for a lazy day at home when you don't feel like cooking. read more

This Emperor's Palace apparently has nothing to do with the top-notch restaurant of the same name in Bremerton, and therein lies the problem. To be fair, there are probably hundreds of restaurants called Emperor's Palace in America. I'd wager that roughly half of them are better than this one and half of them are worse. 50th percentile. It's OK to be just OK, I guess. Average Chinese food is still Chinese food, and it's better than bad Chinese food. This is your standard issue American Chinese restaurant with the Chinese zodiac placemats and a kid's menu with grilled cheese and fish 'n' chips. Oddly, upon being seated you are handed a small limited menu that notes that a "full menu" is available on request. The full menu notes that vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free menus are also available on request. Why not just hand all the customers a truly "full" menu? I'm OK with Americanized Chinese food, as I am OK with the ways Americans have adapted pizza and espresso, and I understand that sometimes it is necessary to adjust recipes to locally available ingredients and regional preferences, but this is just a touch too heavy a hand of Americanization. Too sweet, too greasy. Overcooked rice. A fortune cookie in a bag. (It is the kind with a rose though.) Good tea. Plates that are very much showing their age. I ordered Kung Pao Tofu, and every restaurant's interpretation of what Kung Pao is is a bit different, with peanuts being pretty much the only constant, and this interpretation, to its credit, involves baby corn and zucchinis along with the usual celery, (not enough) onions, and water chestnuts, as well as awkwardly out of place carrots that just seemed to be crashing the wrong party, and the texture of the tofu was good, but the sauce had more of a "sweet and sour" quality than I'd expect for a spicy umami dish like Kung Pao. The prices are a bit higher than some better restaurants but not outrageous. I wouldn't really recommend this particular place but I wouldn't say "run away" either. read more

I ordered the spicy beef teriyaki rice bowl. I just want to say "Where's the rice"! The beef was tender and juicy. Teriyaki sauce was good too. They served this bowl with slightly warm vegetables and a bowl of egg drop soup. It doesn't even say that it comes with these items, but maybe I missed it somewhere on the menu. It was very good though! My real complaint is that I ordered this to be 5 stars bc I love spicy food. You'd think they would use hot peppers of some sort but they used crushed red pepper flakes, which were old bc I kept getting a hard crunch which I thought damaged my molars. Throw this crap out please!! Buy fresh pepper flakes or use hot peppers! My final comment is I ordered an egg roll but never received it. The waitress was either new or was just busy conversing with the staff, which I obviously observed. Please add more than 2 table spoons of rice to the "rice bowls". Being from out of town with no transportation my food choices were limited. I had pizza last night so I figures Chinese tonight. I should of ordered another pizza. First the price. I'm from Chicago and I can get enough Chinese food from my favorite place to feed 2 for half what this place charged to feed one. The portions are very small, like one scoop of each. The rice had no noticeable chunks of pork like a true pork fried rice should. I'm not even sure that was chicken I was eating. The crispy spring roll was about the size of a finger. So for just under $20 ($13 for meal, another $2 for delivery charge, plus tax, plus a couple bucks for tip) I'm left feeling very disappointed and feeling like I got scammed. Simply the worst Chinese food I have ever experienced. Worse than the kind of place you find in a mall food court. Worse than what you would expect to get if you asked a Scottish chef to prepare you a Chinese meal using only dog meat. I promise you this is not hyperbole, it really is THAT bad. We ordered delivery from Emperor's Palace this afternoon. Our four entrees and sides were delivered in a timely manner, but the product was the most disappointing waste of calories and dollars I've experienced in years. Ranging from insipid and unappetizing to downright disgusting, each and every dish was disappointing. Orange chicken was soaked (SOAKED) in grease, and served in a gloopy, brown mess of a sauce along with a peculiar mix of uncooked veggies and others which had been boiled so long they had lost the will to retain any recognizable structure. General Tso's Chicken was impossible to differentiate from Orange Chicken, and no less disgusting. Broccoli Beef was served in the same ubiquitous brown goo, with stringy meat accompanying gray broccoli. Egg rolls appear to have been poached in oil rather than fried. These were served with a bizarre neon sauce, sickeningly sweet, but otherwise without any distinguishing flavor characteristics. I am exceptionally tolerant of down-market Asian restaurants, and often find that you get a more authentic (and delicious) meal at a better price in establishments that appear a little bit sketchy. And I'll gladly accept less authentic Chinese food if it's well prepared. This is neither authentic nor well executed, and in fact represents the low point in all my years of enjoying Chinese cuisine. Save your time and money (and perhaps several years of your lifespan) by avoiding Emperor's Palace at all costs. read more

I was feeling lazy and didn't want to go out, and this place seems to be the only Chinese take-out that delivers in the area. I decided to ignore the bad reviews and give it a shot. Coming from Seattle, my expectations for Chinese in Olympia were already low, but wow, this place really knows how to lower the bar. My husband ordered fried rice and I got the chow mein: flavorless, soppy, insanely greasy (not in a good Chinese-greasy way), and beyond sparse in terms of the good stuff, i.e. shrimp in my case. Decided I really needed some almond chicken, so ordered from their website. Waited outside for curbside pickup. Took the food home and was seriously disappointed. Most of the Almost chicken was like leather inside the breading, some of the breading was so hard (overcooked) that I couldn't even stick my fork in it. I called the manager and was told that there was nothing she would do and that they would not allow me to get a refund or replacement and I could not speak to the GM or owner.
