Approximately 10 years ago I purchased 2 remarkably beautiful and well made rugs from Penny at Paradise Oriental Rugs. I have walked on the rugs daily as have family and friends. They look as good now as they did 10 years ago. Well, yesterday I bought an outrageously exquisite rug from Penny. Amazingly, she not only remembered me but the 2 rugs I bought. She pulled up the photos of them on her computer. OK, so not only does she have an outrageous memory, exceptional rugs at reasonable prices, the patience of a saint, and knows her rugs thoroughly, she will tell you the story about the villages and tribes where each rug comes from. I simply messaged her store randomly, along with several other local rug dealers, attempting to sell a few rugs I inherited. Unfortunately, my items were not a good fit for her inventory but she went above and beyond by giving me a personal call, providing me with expert advice and educating me on my items. In addition, she blew me away by sharing valuable insights on how selling or consigning the rugs should be handled and what to expect trying to sell them. After we spoke on the phone I actually received an email with suggestions to other reputable dealers in the area that she considered a better fit for my rugs. You can tell she is enthusiastic about ensuring anyone interested or curious about rugs gets the information they are seeking. Not for her own gain necessarily, but rather to simply be helpful. She is super easy to talk to and ask questions from. My passion and hobby is antiques and I regularly buy, sell and seek advice from experts and dealers within their respective industries. The best way to shop with Penny is to have her throw down rug after rug, accompanied by a steady stream of banter about rug details, style, construction.......she will navigate on the spot to bring out those rugs that appeal most..........and then Penny will throw out a curve ball........something off formula........to see how you like it. I bought two of those types. I lost around 20 rugs in the CZU Lightning Fire..........and I went to see Penny with the idea of replacing just one or two. Walked in to see rugs, need a large rug for my dining room. My friend was waiting outside with her dog. Before I could take more than two steps in without a greeting, the man working in the store raised his voice at my friend to get the dog away from the doorway. The dog wasn't "in" the doorway. He was rude, and I immediately left. I am sure someone more polite would like to sell me a rug.
