The man at the deli counter was hitting on me and talking sexually to me in Spanish. I felt REALLY uncomfortable so I respectfully but firmly told him to BACK OFF. He wouldn't stop. Right then the manager/cashier became triggered and irate. A bigshot: 2 men against 1 Asian woman. He kicked me out, called me a f---ing fat bitch and caused a big scene. Rather flamboyant misogyny - he definitely embarrassed himself. I honestly felt like I was in an elementary school fight with a thirsty pervert and a shouting little boy! I was calm, I never yelled or cursed but I did almost ask them to meet me at the playground lol. I digress... What a simple but delicious bodega. Deadass one of the cleanest bodegas in the area. Their sandwiches are great, and I've never even ran into issues with a bum here which is quite rare. A lot of my friends eat from here all the time as well as myself they have thrown up because I think the oil you're supposed to change every few hours and they don't . Then they cross contaminate cooking everything in the same spot when they have a huge grill so I wouldn't recommend eating from a place that likes to poison people . An honest review by someone who lives in the area; Empire is absolute garbage. If you're here for groceries, you'll find everything slightly overpriced relative to literally just walking across the street to any other store. The chefs are drinking an hour into their shift and are usually drunk and messing up every order ever, while the employee's stand around and talk shit about the customers in their language. Bums frequent the store at all hours, orders are constantly messed up if you're ordering anything more complicated than a bagel, and it's just a joke. The cashiers are constantly changing prices and pocketing the overflow, and the frozen goods / anything required to be a certain temperature will be mismanaged and / or freezerburnt. If this store wasn't 24 hours, it would've closed as fast as it opened. Anyone saying otherwise doesn't frequent the area or the store at all. read more

Best deli to order from, if there are any issues with your order, they're quick to call and confirm. I love their omelettes, salads, and finger foods, and honestly the price is amazing compared to any diners around the area. They also have a great variety in candy and chips! There are two types of eateries in this city with which I have the most vicious love-hate relationship. Pizza shops and delis. This place does not sell pizza. New York is home to the best and worst delis in this country. What is so maddeningly frustrating is that outside of the famous ones, you never know which is which. Yelp is somewhat helpful, but let's be honest. Trying to rate and review every deli in this city would be like trying to count the number of men who stick around for brunch after a one night stand. It's pointless, because you know in 3 months, most of them will have disappeared forever. That being said, I will not waste too much time on this one. Ordered from here 2 nights in a row. There aren't many delis that I actually like around here. The guys behind the counter are super friendly (which is a nice change from being barked at like at some of the other places in the area). If you go in to grab food its fresh and decent. Its a deli not a restaurant - learn the difference. Delivery is a crap shoot - I docked the star because delivery has sucked both times I tried it. No complaints here! This is a cheap deli with a standard selection of sandwiches, breakfast foods, and salads. A 5 topping salad is only $5.00, compared to $10+ at those fancy salad bars around here! I didn't know what to expect based on how cheap most things on the menu were priced but I was pleasantly surprised when the actual food arrived. Everything seemed really fresh and tasted really good and I especially appreciated the preparation of my breakfast sandwich. The fruit salad I ordered was especially good in that it had all of the coveted fruit like mango strawberry, pineapple, and blueberry without having any of the fruit would you would normally bypass like cantaloupe in the honeydew. For the prices and the food quality I would say this establishment will definitely be getting more business from me, I am a very happy customer! read more

Always changes prices for $1 money isn't the issue but the principle. The cashier guy is willing to scheme and extra $1 or $2. The food is good, & the cooks are nice . The Cashiers however are DISRESPECTFUL & always changing the prices of things . I have been going to empire since they first opened in the neighborhood my grandmother has lived in since my mom was a teen. I went there all the time and i usually get the same things. Turkey sandwhich, salt and vinegar chips ,& a brisk bottle. i started noticing that the prices varied time to time even tho i was getting the exact same thing. Today i decided to say something because the other day i went & they charged me $8.72 & today $10.50 for the same meal. They told me that "im trying to hustle $2" because i was concerned about the constant price changes. I'm only 16 years old. i wasn't trying to hustle anything, i am tired of the constant price change. He told me that since he charged me $8.72 last time, then i owe him $2 now. Ridiculous and disrespectful . When I told him i wasn't coming back he said "Good , don't come back." this annoys me because me and my family have been loyal customers to Empire since they opened. This is one of my faves for takeout - I love the chopped cheese and the curly fries. My one big issue is this - they have a hard time following directions - they have forgotten things on my sandwiches (EVEN WHEN I PAY EXTRA FOR THOSE). This has happened on several occasions. I just got a sandwich from them tonight which came without cheese and onions -- EVEN THOUGH I PAID AN EXTRA 1.50 FOR CHEESE AND ONIONS!! I just think that it ruins the food to not get what I pay for. I feel at home when I shop there because home is where they're located. The customer serivice is exceptional but only during the day time (those guys get grumpy at night).
