Third time around. I ordered an anchovy personal sized pizza, and what was brought out was artichoke pizza! When I immediately informed the food runner, she insisted it was anchovy. Err, artichoke and anchovy look nothing alike! A manager came by, apologized, and offered us free garlic knots while I waited for the pizza to be remade, which ended up taking quite awhile too. I told my dining partner to go ahead and eat because I didn't want his pizza to be cold. Too bad, because I was hungry! The pizza itself was pretty good, though there was a little too much sauce and cheese. Call ahead for whole pizzas because they do take awhile. I swear. Yelp didn't bring me here. Google did. Whenever I picked up my Google Maps app, it started to ask me about Empire Pizza. But I never said I was there. It insisted I did. "No, I didn't." I am always on the lookout for great Italian food in a city because it's my favorite and Houston isn't exactly known for it. I feel like I struck gold by discovering Empire Pizza. I ordered some well-known classics: garlic knots, mozzarella sticks, and penne with vodka sauce. All of the dishes were outstanding! The garlic knots especially were a standout to me. They were super soft and pillowy, and I couldn't get enough of the accompanying marinara sauce. Also, I thought they absolutely nailed the vodka sauce. My heart has so much love for this place. Literally! 9:30 pm on a Monday night these guys are still open. Check in my book for them. Customer service was amazing. Another check. Most places would only give me the option of cheese pizza and have a bunch of other pork options. Not this place! I was informed that the meat options where beef instead of pork. I had died and gone to heaven right there. Here's where it became difficult... what to choose? I went with two pies; chicken mango habanero and the meat lovers. The chicken mango habanero had a bunch of chopped onion pieces which I enjoyed and there was a sweet and spicy kick in each bite. The meat lovers was a deep dish and was loaded all the way we meat. There was too much tomato sauce on the slice I got, which I am thinking "hey it happens". Even though the food was amazing I did learn one thing from this experience. I placed an order through DoorDash and asked to pick it up. My order was missing an ingredient. I called the spot and simply wanted to give them the heads up. It was my first time using the DoorDash app. I didn't know if it was my fault or not. It wasn't.....but I just didn't expect them to go above and beyond. I just love how accountable the young man on the phone was. Personally, it wasn't something I was going to fret but he offered to make a new one and have it delivered to me directly. On my exploration for new eats, I happen to stop by one of the most busiest streets in Houston, Westheimer, heading back home from my college. I stopped by Empire Pizza to try out how good of New York slice they make. The location before Empire Pizza took its place was actually my go to Hawaiian food spot, Aloha Grill. I remember it fondly for the solid staples like Spam Musubi and the plate lunches but that was years ago. Now in its place is Empire Pizza and I decided to try probably what I believe is the 3 order rule of any NY Style Pizza business: 1. How is their Pepperoni? 2. How is the Margherita? 3. How is the Cannoli or dessert of choice? So I did just that and from my taste test it turned out good. The pepperoni slice is a good size where the slice is as big as the paper plate. The Margherita was good as well. The crust is airy and flaky. And to top it all off, I had to get a cannoli on the way out which was amazingly good. One thing I felt was odd was the Margherita is a rectangle/square slice. I am probably just used to it being a triangle slice but it doesn't make if it's good. Also I really liked their small section where there is Superman, Spider-Man and all the DC/Marvel. The feel of the place makes it really feel like I am in a New York pizzeria with all the art on the walls. I was told Empire has been open since January and they have 2 original locations in New Jersey. The staff was very nice and picked up my plate for me when I finished my pizza. Came by last night because I saw nice pictures and legit reviews on Yelp! They have a huge menu a part from just pizza, they have sandwiches, wraps, wings, soups, salads, etc. Great pizza selection with lots of interesting combinations! They had a Caesar salad pizza, a fat bastard pizza which consisted of french fries, cheese steak, onion rings, and chicken cutlet pieces on top of the pizza with cheddar cheese slices melted on top and buffalo sauce drizzled, and other classic options. We got a slice of margherita, pepperoni, and the fat bastard. I totally forgot to order wings because I was so fascinated with the pizzas. Since I work around the area of this pizza place, I told myself I might as well give it a try since it's still not too many good New York style pizza here in Houston. As soon as you walk in, you can see the rows of various style of pizzas that you can buy by the slice or simply the whole pie. It could be a little bit overwhelming since many of the pizza that's for sale are not "traditional" and does not look familiar to first timers. Luckily the workers there are patient and tell you which one is which. You let them know how many slices of which pizza and they will put it together, put it in the oven to warm it up a bit, and since I usually get it to go and two slices, they will put the slices together into a small box and these specialty pizzas are about $3.50 a slice, which isn't bad at all! So far I have tried the traditional ones like pepperoni pizza, sausage pizza, and then their specialty ones like Philly cheesesteak, Buffalo chicken, and I gotta say, all of them tasted really great! The pizza itself is nice and soft, well baked, and the crust is delicious enough that you will finish it. The sauce and cheese are good, nothing spectacular but the specialty pizzas I have tried are tasty and does taste like the food it supposed to be, Philly cheesesteak and Buffalo wing experience (as it has celery pieces with ranch drizzles). There's still so much I have yet to try like their sandwiches or the dessert pizza or even their regular desserts. I will still have time to try new ones in the future as again, it's walking distance from my work and sometimes I just want a nice hot slice of pizza for lunch instead of the same food I get at work. If I ever throw a party at my house, I will certainly order for them from now on instead of big pizza chain because their pizza is priced really well and I know all my friends would love it too! read more

We had a bit of a wait but pizza was very fresh and good. We went because of their meatball pizza shown on their IG. They said they don't make it anymore. I wish that was on their IG. It's a popular post of theirs. We ended up ordering the penne pizza with vodka sauce and meatballs pizza and Buffalo chicken pizza. The Buffalo chicken was way better than the penne pizza. Can a stupid person like myself give a bad review? Ya know, because I'm stupid. Stupid is what stupid does. 1) I'm stupid because I thought my pizza would be ready. "Your pepperoni pizza will be ready in 20 minutes..." "...ok, I'll be there in 20 to pick it up" I arrive, pay my check, sit and wait. The place is empty. I watch the cook make a pepperoni pizza. Coincidence? 20 minutes later the cook removes the pizza from the oven. The manager looks at the pizza and says, "next time, put more pepperoni on the pizza". The cook shrugs and walks away. 2) I'm stupid because I don't know what a catering menu looks like. "I ordered 12 buffalo wings, I only see 10?..." "...there's only 10 in an order" "But the menu says 12..." "...where does it say that?" "Right here..." "...oh, that's our catering menu" So apparently you can cater 12 wings. I'm so stupid. The pizza was pre-bake and you choose which one you like to be reheated. There was such a large variety of pizza and other food. I chose the chicken tomato pesto deep dish, delicious as my favorite. We also got the fat bastard pizza, it looked like a heart attack and it felt like one. Would have been good if I had a cold beer with it. Overall a good place for great pizza.
