Ian, George, Walter, and the whole staff are amazing. We got dinged by Budget rental at the airport. We got to New York with 8 girls and they tell us we can't rent a 12 seater van because our credit was not good. Our coach started calling around until she found this rental place. They were so understanding and sympathetic. They matched budget rentals price and picked us up with in 30 min. They young man who picked us up was very nice and gave us a few tips on how to get around in New York. When we got to the rental place Ian and George were great. They took care of us super quick. The coach needed a second car by the middle of the week and they had it ready to go and it only took 10 minutes to pick it up and be out. When we brought the van back walter drove us to the airport. He was really sweet and nice. I recommend Empire rental 100 times over. They are super efficient, understanding, and professional. I picked up a 24' Budget Truck from this location, plus a car dolly. I had shipped 8 garment boxes to this location as well. Although the truck was not already at this location when I arrived, these guys hustled to get the truck delivered quickly. They had the garment boxes set aside for me and were extremely helpful to me, as I had never rented such a large truck before. in fact, when I returned the truck in Warrenton, VA to New Baltimore Garage, I had lots of problems because they were trying to charge me for all sorts of damages and cleaning fees which were ridiculous. Empire came to my rescue and spoke to New Baltimore Garage, explaining that it is an old truck and had dents and dirt on it prior to my renting it. Empire Rent A Car is highly recommended! Pros: - Cost per mile Cons: - extremely rude staff and owner - old dated cars that don't feel safe and lack every basic feature (they have an old ac and that's pretty much it) - extremely small lot, makes getting in/out and park very difficult - hidden fees - worst customer service I've ever encountered - paperwork takes forever to be processed The front staff and apparent owner, Ian kusinitz, were by far the rudest staff I've ever encountered in my entire life. The front staff yelled at us numerous times, delayed the process (and yelled when we asked if we were finished), called us annoying, ignored me (the renter) to speak to my father, and eventually kicked us out. The owner barged in as we were discussing the recovery fee (they claimed it's forced on them by law to charge the customers when really it's a fee on them and not all companies charge it) when he slammed the door open, grabbed the paper out of my dad's hand and yelled at us that we owe him $4 and to pay now; he then stated we were "getting on his nerves since yesterday" and told us to get the hell out before he yells at us further. When asked how we got on his nerves he stated because we parked inside the lot on direction of one of his employees and didn't move it (the lady was processing our paperwork and we couldn't move it). He continued to yell at us until yelling to leave. Not only is he abusive to his customers (he yelled at several the day before) he's abusive to his staff members who are then rude and abusive to the customers. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. Will NEVER return or recommend. Avoid this unorganized disaster of a store unless you want to encounter loud, rude, and mean staff members. Even though their prices might be cheaper their cars are from the 90's with very limited features (the windows have to be manually rolled down!) didn't feel safe the entire time using the truck, would rather pay more for better quality service than this garbage. **Response to Ian's below message: Hi Ian, No, you aren't sorry, as you made clear in the store after yelling at and kicking out my father and I; please don't attempt to save face online for your extremely unprofessional behavior. The car was anything but new, it was evident that it was extremely old by the features; after we viewed the rental it was extremely disappointing to know it was such a dated car but at that point we had already signed the documents and had been stuck in traffic for several hours, time was limited. When we entered the lot we were directed to park to the side by the employees working the lot, it was not blocking anything but one vehicle behind it, but not access to the exit of the lot; it was not moved around the lot as you described, remaining there for several minutes. The reason it was not moved immediately is because the woman in front had my fathers license & insurance and was asking him to sign documents, which is why he asked for a moment. Again, your approach was extremely rude - running around and yelling at someone does not constitute good customer service or management. As for the delay, I called to notify the staff we were stuck in traffic and thus delayed. The delay in paperwork was not due to our delay, rather it was the office staffs inefficiency by attempt to handle multiple people in small chunks causing multiple delays and others also complaining of the lack of prompt service. I still don't understand how you feel the right or need to call us nasty when we were attempting to ask for clarification on our bill - the numbers she stated didn't add up and you even corrected her on her count for the mileage. We've had issues with the billing since yesterday because the person conducting the bill in front was charging us for things we didn't ask for. This is our first experience renting a truck and the recovery fee did not make sense as we've never been charged that for car rentals; upon hearing it is "legally mandatory for customers" I immediately researched and found it is for businesses and they sometimes pass that charge along making your statement inaccurate and misleading. Regardless of that your attitude toward us was inexcusable; I completely understand the notion of being a family and commend that, however, there is a level of customer service that must be maintained and instead of attempting to have a dialog and resolve the issue as adults your condescending yelling was inappropriate and uncalled for - snatching a document out of his hands and yelling at us both in the middle of the office, telling us were annoying you, kicking us out is bad management any way you try to cut it. - Hia read more

I rented a car from the "Empire Car rental" in the Bronx, Fordham Rd. last friday. The receptionist was rude and continued to speak in Spanish to the on sight mechanic. The price for the car was outrageous even though I left the state for one day. The car was filthy inside and yet they had the nerve to tell me to have the car back clean. While on the express way, the car started to jerk and the "maintenance" sign came on and stayed on for the 3 days that I had the car. The only thing that was good about "Empire" was the fact that I was able to rent a car without having a credit card. read more

never, never, never go to this place. if i could give it 0 stars i would. i booked my van online a month ahead of when we needed it for a work event. i tried to confirm the day before and they told me i couldn't pick up my van in woodside at 7 am like it said on my reservation but instead if i wanted it for 7 am it would be in bayside. i fought with them half of the morning of the day that i rente the van so that i could return it to woodside where i was supposed to pick it up and the finally allowed me to do it. when i got the rental place in bayside they said it will be a few minutes before we can get you a van when one was outside after they processed the paperwork guess which van they gave me the one that i had been looking at. i had to take the van to a car wash in long island city because it was filthy, i took so many pictures and i posted on yelp so folks can steer clear. the reason this review is in all caps is because this business is a bunch of scum bags. read more

My car got hit by a sanitation truck during snow removal on a Friday night. I called every car rental place that Saturday morning and was promised a call back once a car became available. Empire Rent-a-Car is the only company that called me. I was pleased to hear from them within 2 hours from calling them. I didn't receive an e-mail from the office confirming the rental booked but a quick e-mail to Ian solved that problem. I was really dreading my move from Bay Ridge to Harlem, especially on July 4th weekend. All of the staff took such great care of me, especially Beverly and Marco in Brooklyn. Ian even answered the phone after hours when I was confused about the drop-off location. Someone who rented an Empire Van hit the side of my car, tearing off the sideview mirror. When I contacted Empire to get their insurance information, they told me to bring my car in and they would fix it free of charge. So my baby died on me a week before Christmas;my honda civic gave me 11 loyal years.Now I have a problem;no credit card to rent a car but I do have debit.Decided to call all the popular companies.Budget,Enterprise,Hertz,Dollar which by the way was very expensive..All these companies gave me the same story;credit check is required with debit card.So here was my dilemma;got the cash but bad credit.NO credit card..bad credit with a debit card.What does a single mother of 2 to do;I gotta get to work.I googled rental car companies and came across EMPIRE..I was instructed by a pleasant lady all the documents required to rent a car with Empire.I was reluctant to go to Flushing fearing the same bs as with all the other companies about credit check.I was happy I made the visit.I rented the car on a weekly basis due to my buget and was able to do a few extensions.The service was amazing.The Flushing site knew my struggle with my kids and not having a car and really worked with me.I will honestly confess that there were times I returned the car later than what was agreed upon but they sympathized knowing that I was coming from work and having to pick up my babies.If you need a rental without the hassle of credit card and credit checks being thrown at you then check out EMPIRE.I can only speak of the Flushing site though because I was treated there like family.I am happy I found this place because I was getting tired of having to ask someone to put a rental on their card whenever I went on my road trips.The ladies are amazing and I was always treated with respect.Everytime I returned the car for an extension the Service agent offered to clean the car.Writing reviews are not my thing but I have to let people know about this company.DId I mention they also accept cash?
