When I initially met with Empire, they were great. I was offered a decent selection of vinyl plank flooring with an easy financing option. Price-wise, they were the best option for me. However, the day of installation they did not have the right materials. This made the installation processes slower. They also replaced my appliances (washer/dryer, fridge, stove, and dishwasher) before I could inspect the flooring behind/underneath. Now, roughly a year and a half later, I moved my appliances and have noticed they did not put in the quarter round around/behind the appliances which left big gaps in my home that are now, quite unfortunately, the entry point of bugs and mice. They will not come to finish the job they did without an additional cost. I feel like the men who came to do my flooring skipped corners to make the job go faster and purposefully did not allow me to check these areas that are now causing me issues. I will not be using Empire again due to the unfinished job that was purposefully hidden from me. read more

Terrible experience so far. My grandmother and myself decided to get our carpet taken out and replace it with vinyl. We went to Empire thinking the #1 flooring company in the nation cant be bad, right? Well we were horribly wrong. We gave them our payment, and took everything out of all of the rooms we're getting work done in. Day of install comes around and they show up with the wrong color vinyl, they agree to come back the next day and without lifting a single centimeter of carpet they tell us we need a sub/floor and it'll cost $2200 more. Unacceptable. We have been reaching out to customer service for a week now and have not been able to speak with a manager, have been hung up on and not a SINGLE thing has been resolved. They tell us a 24 hour wait is needed to speak with a manager every day since Monday. It is now Thursday and not one has called us. Absolute disgrace of a company. I was in need of carpet installation and contacted a local company. I imagine it is due to COVID-19 why they did not pick up the phone. I tried a number of times. Empire seemed the most logical to turn to now. I was not 100% sure if they were going out or not. I was very pleased to reach Customer Service. They set me up with an appointment in a short period of time. The sales representative, John, came in just a few short days. He came wearing mask and gloves. I very much appreciated all the time John spent explaining products to me. The installer came within a week and did an excellent job laying padding and wall-to-wall in my living room. John returned with samples for flooring that I wanted for my foyer and kitchen. Once again he was very thorough in explaining products. I look forward to having that work done. If there were negative stars, this company would be assigned a negative for their customer service and follow up. Their mantra is "Ignore the customer and hope they will just go away." I have been trying to have someone is customer service assist me with defective carpet for the past month. No one ever picks up their extension including the entire management team. Everything goes directly to voicemail and no one returns your calls. I have sent countless emails with sporadic responses at best which never address my issues. They have scheduled 3 bogus appointments for someone to come to my home and examine the damage. I have taken off from work twice and no one has ever showed up or followed up with me after. I have never in my life experienced a more unprofessional, unreliable company. My husband and I are now 20 days from the original installation quoted to us from Christian the New York sales rep. The installation team missed 3 days of setup with absolutely no communication or explanation despite contacting customer service 3-4 times a day. The third day (Saturday) we were set for installation, the team started the process before then sharing that they did not have the material to do the stairs. After calling back our sales representative he told us he would "swing by" at 9am (Tuesday) to show us our options. Christian showed up at 10am with no communication as to why he was an hour late again. He then proceeded to yell and say it is "not my fault and not a big deal" that we would now have to have a different material on the floor and the stairs. Until I was able to get in touch with his manager we had no answers. The manager ensured us that we were set to have our stairs done Tuesday (4/28). Tuesday came and went and the installer never arrived. After reaching out to the manager and the sales representative the installer finally reached out saying he was stuck at a job and would be at our home at 8am Wednesday (4/29). It is now 8:39am we have heard nothing from anyone at Empire and we still have no flooring done. My husband is a first responder who has missed now 4 days of work due to these inconveniences and the nonchalant attitude from almost all staff members at Empire is unacceptable. read more

Would be 0 stars if I could. This was the worst experience I have had with any company. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! We were having 3 bedrooms redone, carpet removed and luxury vinyl flooring installed. We were told that the installers would move the furniture, not true especially when they only send one installer. The installer did not speak English, we could not communicate with him. He asked his son to come help. Is this legal? Does his son work for Empire? Is he licensed and bonded? His son was there for about an hour. The installer set off our fire alarm multiple times during the day because he was cutting the wood inside instead of outside. The installer broke a picture frame and did not say anything. When the picture fell it also damaged/dented our floor board. The so-called "indestructible" flooring was scratched and gouged by the installer. He damaged a newly painted wall as well as left all three rooms filthy, covered in dust from the cutting. He did not clean up his work area. He put our closet doors on backwards and they are now cockeyed. He came back to install the piece from floor to floor and now my children can no longer use their restroom because he cut into the door frame, wedged the piece under and now the door will not open/close. I have called the office multiple times to file complaints. I have a current reference number and I have still not received a phone call or email back from them. They keep escalating it but that apparently is no good either. I would prefer to have them return all my money and rip out the floors at this point. I would rather start with a more reliable company. I had water damage in my house, due to pipes freezing in the extreme cold temperatures-which resulted in needing new carpet, ASAP- the process of the free estimate was a breeze! Easy fast 1-2-3. That's where it stopped-now my sales rep was fast, and it seemed like he was trying to give me the best price. But when I asked about "sales" or "promotions" they were offering, it seemed like my particular situation didn't apply. (The price was a bit more reasonable then the competition) so I went forward. We set a date. No time frame was given- however I would be given a timeframe -more specific, the day of the installation. The installers would call me the day of installation to give me a more specific time frame on when they would be at the home. I first get an automated call of 1-2hours for the installers to be at the house. (I don't reside at this address, so 1-2 hours was a long time frame) I assumed I would have spoken to an actual installer. I then had called the toll free number to get a better idea of the time frame. Resulting in enough time to head over to the house. Now the next big thing, is the instalation guys could hardly speak English! They would ask me a question, and I had no idea what they were asking or referencing. I also had questions and it was difficult to try to communicate to them. During the first carpet roll out in the first room, I noticed the carpet color to be different then what I chose. I pulled up a picture of "windswept" on my phone- took a picture of what was being installed. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. I immediately emailed my sales rep. I got a failed mail message- I tried again, thinking I wrote it incorrectly- both times came back failed! I then emailed the customer service email as a follow up. The funny thing is I got a call-just as the gentleman were finishing, asking me how the installation went- Oscar, was the person I spoke too- I told him about the wrong color. He said he would put in to have a supervisor contact me. The installation took place on 1/25 and I've yet to hear back from anyone. I've emailed customer service twice, and in the meant time they sent me an online survey of the job completion, At which I also had stressed my concerns. I got a call back from the survey I took- they said they would have someone call me back within the business day. I've yet to hear back from anyone. Buyer Beware! The ad they run pay $50 for the second floor is a SCAM! You will pay top dollar for your carpeting. The salesman avoids telling you the total square footage that they are selling you, he says they price by room? When you call to voice a concern over pricing you get passed off to other people. When I was cancelling the order only then do they try and lower the price. I called the corporate office the so called "Regional" Manager is empowered to do nothing. The installers barely speak English. They make you pay before the work is done, still trying to get my refund. This is a waste of time. I tried to get another sales rep and they force you stay with the bad one you started with. They try to make you feel like you are getting a great deal. Well you are not! I prefer to give this company no stars. Not 1. Today is the 2nd time they have come by and again have not delivered the product or service that we paid for over a month ago. They were supposed to bring an cut up rug/carpet based on the measurements of the room & furniture that were provided to them. The 1st time they came for "delivery" that was promised & scheduled they didn't have a bound-up, cut to dimension carpet at all. So they did the measuring themselves in-person and promised the delivery today. Once again they have failed - a man who speaks no English at all roamed our building completely lost even though we told him multiple times on the phone our apartment number and where we are. He shows up and doesn't understand a word of what we are saying, says nothing except he's going to call his boss. Then he leaves the apartment never to be seen again. Additionally - when the sales people were quick & happy to take our credit card they knew that we were getting new carpets because my father was sick in the hospital and we needed to refurbish the apartment for his health. Sadly, my father passed away, and we were very communicative throughout our entire hospital and death journey explaining why we needed to push back an original delivery date. And we certainly explained to them the day my father died why we needed to push back one more time. Their customer service treated us as problematic & they couldn't be bothered with us. Even today, when we asked how are we supposed to communicate with an delivery employee of theirs who doesn't speak a lick of English, customer service said that's not for them to figure out that's for us to figure out. We have absolutely no idea if we are getting a carpet or our money back, it seems that nobody we have spoken to on the phone will speak with us or give us a straight answer. We are continuously lied to, and cannot take off more days of work for this. We have been beyond appalled by this poor, horrible service that a supposed national chain provides on a daily basis. A sales representative was sent to my apartment that was extremely nice. I contracted with her to install carpet. The appointment was set for two days ahead. I told her, the customer Service Department and when I pre paid the day of install, that I would not be there and the contact was my daughter. I advised everyone on multiple occasions that the contact person was my daughter which I supplied the phone number. All this went unheard and they tried to contact me. She called the CS # before 5 and at 5:15 and they said that the installer should be there shortly. My daughter was sitting outside from 4:30 until 6 and no one showed. The claim that the installer came after 5 rang the bell and no one answered. IMPOSSIBLE MY DAUGHTER WAS OUTSIDE WAITING. For the next two days I have been I contacting and stressing that we needed an early morning appointment because I am scheduled to move the next day and could not be waiting. We have things to do. To cut a long story shorter then this they failed to give us the first appointment even after all this inconvenience. My daughter is 44 years old lives 60 miles away. I have multiple myeloma a terminal cancer. This company uses third party installers that are impossible for them to control or direct their schedule. It was impossible for the CS department to contact them. Operationally this company rates below a one. It is impossible to contact the corporate office. I knew what I wanted and shared that with Ralph during the sales appointment and he respected that and only showed me one different sample that he thought I would be interested in based on what I wanted to see. I ultimately stuck with what I wanted originally, but the fact that Ralph respected that and did not try to bombard me with all sorts of options is salesmanship done right in my book. This company is the most irresponsible company I have ever dealt with. So much so, I never leave reviews until today. I've been calling empire for a carpet repair since June 2nd. I was told to send pictures of the damage (Friday) and would hear back from the company the following Monday. I heard back the 20th. Between those dates I called the company every day, nothing. I called the employees ext. nothing. On the 20th I was told the pictures were never received, so I resent them. I got confirmation of pictures that evening, was told I'd hear back the 21st. Empire Today has the worst customer service I have encountered. My elderly dog had an accident right before his death on June 28th of this year. My carpeting was just shy of 7 months old. I asked for customer service to just replace the padding where the accident occurred and replace the existing carpet, as there was no stain, just an odor. They told me to have the carpet professionally cleaned(at my own expense) then they would come to assess the damage. I stated that my husband had cleaned the carpet with a home machine and the odor was in the padding, not the carpet. They told us that they wouldn't replace just the padding and replace existing carpeting. I finally gave up. I continue to try to get the odor out. Today, 3 weeks later, Empire contacted me again. Stating that they would replace the padding, but at an exorbitant price. Why have a warranty? Terrible service. Please do not use them because of the cheaper pricing. When I refused to pay more then they had quoted for me and more then what it said on our contract, Empire tried denying me the ability to cancel, then when I ploughed through and cancelled, they didn't return my $1000 deposit! It has been 16 Days since my cancellation and I haven't seen a penny yet. Not only that, but when I called for the cancellation confirmation, they said that they can't help me because my case is closed and all information is for "Internal Review Only". Yelp reviewers are right. Do not do business with Empire Carpet. Got multiple quotes for the same job, and Empire was consistently THREE times higher in their estimates. It's insane. And this is a high-pressure sales operation. Get them in your house, and you won't get them out very easily. They want to get you to sign a contract on the spot before you can comparison shop. Don't be fooled by the 10% discount they offer if you sign on the spot. Even with the discount, Empire was more than three times higher than every competitor. And now, to make matters worse, even after I told them I chose another vendor, and after I've warned them not to call back, they still have the nerve to keep calling me. I am so losing my patience at this point. In the end, we went to Lowes, ordered the highest quality Stainmaster carpet with the memory foam pad, and got a professional installation for less than a third of what Empire would have cost me. Thank god I did not get pressured into using Empire. I'm sorry, folks, but if you schedule an appointment with Empire and then get suckered into signing a contract on the spot, you're a fool. Yesterday morning, we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt by scheduling an appointment to get an estimate. I was told a rep would be at our office between 9-11am. NOT SO MUCH... I received a message in broken english that I needed to call to reschedule... Ok, so let me get this straight: 1.) You cancel on me 2.) It is my responsibility to call you and reschedule? I was given no reason in the message, just, "you need call reschedule"-at least I think that's what she said.... I called back to speak to someone and the gentleman had an attitude with me! He then put no effort in trying to save the sale. They didn't want our business and I'd rather not give it to them. First impressions and customer service go a LONG way. We might try Northeast Flooring on 1st and 77th. You should too. They were responsive, attentive, and had amazing customer service. Empire Carpets operates a scandalous service. They have no stores, so depend entirely on their ability to get to the customer, yet this doesn't seem to motivate then one bit. I have scheduled appointments with Empire Carpets that are then canceled on the day of, the excuse being that there is no representative in the area. "Why did you agree to the appointment in the first place?" I asked them. "Because we never know whether there will be reps in the area until the morning of the appointment." "Meantime I have taken half a day off work. Is this really how you do business?" "I'm sorry, but there are no reps in your area, we will have to reschedule." And so on with the broken record technique. No attempt was made to send a representative and they defended their lack of integrity like it was perfectly normal business practice. I certainly did not reschedule, why would I take another day off work for a service that may or may not show up, depending on the mood? On another occasion the representative called to say that his van had been towed. I know that bad things can happen once in a while, but seriously, it's non stop with these people. In the end they lost the chance to both carpet my home and install all the shades. Their loss. Why do I complain, even though I found other businesses with more integrity to complete both of these jobs?. I complain because I am unable to understand how a business that doesn't honor its appointments or respect its customers is able to still be in business. The fact that they are accredited by the Better Business Bureau is even more shocking. Clearly the BBB is not a credible organization after all. I bought window treatments from them. Let me just tell you that the "next day installation" they promote all over the place isn't guaranteed. That's right. They will come to your apartment as soon as you call them, and the guy accepts a 20% deposit--and he will tell you that someone will call shortly to arrange for the installation. Two weeks later, I had no window treatments. Three weeks later, they called to schedule an appointment to install, w/ the first available day being almost a week later. When I called and complained, they said that the next-day installation was not guaranteed and they couldn't compensate me for the delay--and they were right. The contract clearly states so. Damn. If their installation takes a month, then why would they advertise next-day installation! As if that weren't bad enough, when they came to install, the window treatments looked nothing like the sample they had shown me. The salesman showed up an hour late but then told me I will get $50 off for that. Gee, thanks. He brought samples, and I said I just want the cheapest carpet for the basement, so he recommended commercial carpet. Well, Mr. Carpet Salesman, I would appreciate it if you spoke to me, rather than turn your back to me and only speak to my boyfriend. You basically directed every comment and conversation to him and ignored me, the person who lives there and who will be paying you. After my annoyance wore off, we actually got a kick out of his sexist behavior. My quote, for commercial carpet in one room, $1000. Do we look like people who want to be swindled? I mean, come on. Once it was stated to him I wasn't expecting to pay over $800, he said "ok, I can do it for $800". He was greedy, and tried to high ball me. I hate that, and I hate salespeople who are pushy and rude. Here's the rude part: I told him I need to speak with my parents (I wanted to find out how much they paid for the initial carpet that was put in the basement when I first moved in 7 years ago). He told me to call them right now, in front of him. Sorry, not doing that. He kept insisting I call them, right then and there. Also insisting if I book now they can do it tomorrow. Maybe I do not want it installed next day, so that was not a great selling point. I didn't have a problem with appt scheduling at all -- I scheduled online to take advantage of their internet special. The guy came on time. . .and stayed for 2 hours chatting about all kinds of things that had nothing to do with my carpet. I wanted a quote for two different carpets, so he gave me the bottom line numbers, but I didn't realize until afterward that he didn't give me the internet discount. I was more concerned because he kept wandering off with my credit card. Turns out they won't give it to you after the fact, so essentially I over-paid because they don't honor their promises. The quality of the carpet and pad are okay. My husband went WAAY overboard in clearing the rooms, and these guys still managed to make a production out of installation. Don't know what they would have done if we'd left most of the furniture in place, the way normal people do. If you've seen the commercials, you've seen the entire room shake when they install the carpet. . .little did I know this was an actual representation. They banged so hard the whole house shook. They don't vacuum afterward, so apparently, that's up to you. Overall, I'd be happier if they honored their promotional discounts and if they didn't make such a production out of everything. read more

When the Carpenters arrived they called me saying they cannot get he job done because there was a small crack on the floor and they had to call their manager. Empire's employees followed the same exact "broken record" script about not knowing until after appointments are confirmed whether their representatives will actually be available for said confirmed appointments. An added twist for us -- we had a confirmed appointment for carpeting and window treatment consults for 9-11am this morning and got a phone call from Empire at 8:30am saying that there was no rep in our area. They told us they had reps available beginning at 3pm today, so we agreed to see someone between 5 and 7pm. Great. The rep, who was very professional, showed up just before 5pm, but was only able to help with carpets. NO window treatment samples, and had no window treatment expertise. We asked to speak to his manager, and the manager was nasty over the phone, repeating the same things, interrupting, raising his voice, and, as the other reviewers experienced, defended the "way they do it." I really wish yelp will allow you to leave zero stars or actually negative stars. Empire is a horrible company that scams customer. They installed carpet in my home. They get a 3rd party to install it. They did a horrible job installing it (holes and nails everywhere) they had to come back out and fix it. Then not long after having the carpet installed the carpet started buckling. Then they charge a ridiculous amount of $ to come and fix the carpet that they poorly installed. I get a quote for one price and they come to my house and start adding more charges. Everyone in customer service has attitudes. And they sell you on the whole warranty thing but find several ways to tell you basically nothing is covered in the warranty. Please find any other floor installer other than empire. They are the absolute WORST. read more

I've been meaning to update this review: When we secured the services of another installer, we followed up with Empire to make sure that the contract truly was cancelled and that they weren't going to try to put us on the hook for any installation costs (nothing would have surprised us). We spoke to a representative at Empire on the phone, who acknowledged that (a) there was never any asbestos threat, and (b) the installers had apparently been unable to get the flooring that we had ordered on the day of the scheduled installation. We have no choice but to assume that they showed up at our apartment knowing that they couldn't complete the job we had contracted for (they acknowledged at the time that they didn't have the wood flooring with them when they showed up), but with their minds set on selling us SOMETHING, even if they had to fabricate a reason to make it seem like it wasn't their fault that they couldn't fill the order. As per my original review: SKETCHY. Since telling my friends about our problems with Empire, I've heard several other stories about similar problems with the company. Apparently, this is par for the course. On a happier note, the flooring installers that we ultimately went with did a great job. They installed the same flooring at about the same price and reassured us of what we already knew, that there was no asbestos threat at all. read more
