Empire Today installed laminate flooring in two bedrooms on August 25, 2023. Extensive damage began to appear under the bed in the master bedroom. I reported the damage, indicating the area was totally under the bed, was never exposed to anything as it was never walked upon nor cleaned with any water or solvent. I was required to send photos for assessment. A few days later a flooring specialist was sent for the inspection. A few days later I received a Certificate of Completion which I never signed. The inspector indicated the cause of the damage was water and Empire indicated that this was not covered by warranty and that I was responsible for the repair. This is impossible as the damaged area is under the bed and has never been exposed to anything. The inspector indicated in a text that damage by water was his "BEST GUESS" and had entered "N/A" on the Certificate of Completion instead of my signature indicating that I was satisfied with the inspection. Horrible experience!!!!! I will not recommend this company to anyone. If you see the commercials please DO NOT believe the hype whatsoever. I scheduled an appointment for a FREE estimate since I was required by insurance company to get 3 estimates, I seen the commercials so I figured hey they must be pretty good! Most certainly the opposite. Long story short. Met with Ralphy the estimator, he measured the apartment, arrived with no samples whatsoever, all while I was having a conversation with him explaining I needed to present 3 quotes to my insurance to get things taken care of and he asked if I had other quotes why am I wasting everyone's time. If the insurance is paying for it then I might as well go with the others. Hmmmm! I was trying to give him business because although it was only one apartment I showed him I actually needed it for all 4 units. He gave me a quote verbally but when I asked for a formal quote he told me just take a picture and wouldn't give me the measurements or the breakdown! Unbelievable never ever again! I have hardwood laminate installed in my home in October 2024. I noticed about a week ago a section that was slightly bubbled and looked like the groove that connected to the next plank was starting to lift. The salesperson of course promised the moon, don't worry if anything happens to the floor with out 5 year warranty it is covered. So here I am almost 6 months into this flooring and have a problem. I contacted the number on the warranty. They asked a series of questions, like was I aware of an accident something spilled, pets, etc. I told them no because I was truthful and not aware, I told them I the light hit it just right and that is why I saw it. They are trying to say it was the cleaning product I used so not covered by the original warranty which is for installation, materials, etc. The product I used is well known and says right on the container, safe for wood laminate. They are also informed me that since I cannot explain and accident that the extended warranty does not cover it either. I ended up not using this company after receiving an unrealistic estimate from a sales rep. who was not at all knowledgable about flooring. He never provided a detailed estimate and did not respond when I replied that the estimate he gave me was not detailed. He told me my LVP installation could be done in one day (highly unlikely), did not know the difference between SP & WP LVP, and pushed very hard for a sale. As you will see by reading the Yelp reviews (which I should have done before reaching out for an estimate from Empire), this company has an absolutely terrible reputation. I also read reviews at a flooring site in Facebook where they also received terrible reviews. Had new carpet installed and after a few days we started to notice seams started showing real bad, we made a call to the warranty department and I was told I would be contacted within 24-48 hours. I have now made this same call 10 time starting around Xmas. I have been told, promised and even guaranteed someone will call, apparently I am the only one that calls, if they think I am going to forget about getting my carpet repaired they are out of their minds. If there was a zero to show how awful this experience was, I would enter that. The sales person encouraged my wife to sign a document to get an additional 25% discount. At that point we had not received any kind of estimate or even a ball park number. That document became part of the contract. Bottom line is they charged $1800 for 20yds of carpet and $1600 for 120sf of laminate flooring. Most of the furniture was moved for them. I did not have them remove and replace baseboard that was "included" in the laminate scope of work. No credit. I went back and forth for three days until I gave up.(Wife is Happy so I'm happy). These guys are a joke. The sales person first quoted a floor that wasn't suitable for the site. The contractor met me at the site to do the install early Saturday morning and then told me the sales people don't know what they are doing and told me what floor to have them quote. I gave the feedback to the sales rep who then quoted glue down carpet per the contractor's recommendation. I met the contractor the following Saturday, and he noticed that the quote only included one hallway of baseboard work, not the whole job as the sales rep said. We tried getting a hold of the sales rep to no avail. Tried to get a hold of Empire, and no one that could help or answer any questions was unavailable the day of the install. After going back and forth about the base boards, the contractor said he didn't want to do the job and was walking away. He said the floor was too uneven, despite it having carpet in that same place for decades. When the installation department got back to me three days later, they suggested I do a bunch of concrete work for them to put down the carpet. This space has carpet in it currently, so clearly carpet works here no problem. I told them I was not interested in doing any concrete work and just wanted to replace the existing carpet. They said they probably couldn't do it, but wouldn't say that definitively. After reaching out to more people at Empire, I was never able to get a hold of anyone who could give me a clear answer. The rescheduled me for the next day, then pushed it out three weeks without contacting me or telling me. The sales person was pretty worthless according to my experience, the contractor (who does not work for Empire) was less than helpful, the hotline gives the run around, the installment department had no answers and was impossible to get a hold of when the contractor was scheduled. I only had a small project of removing the carpet on my stairs and small hallway. My girlfriend used them and her floors looked great so I decided to try. The sales associate that came out I don't think fully understood what the project takes but found the flooring that matched what I had down stairs and got me my drop dead pricing I was able to spend. The reason I think they matched what I could do pricing wise was based on me scheduling it immediately which was fine by me. The contractor that came out was very very polite, knowledgeable and skilled. It took him 2.5 days to complete, my only complaint would be they send out two people so this project was completed quicker like the sales associate and I discussed originally, but honestly he did a great job so I can't complain. He made sure the stairs and flooring was cleaned of any of the glue or Daap at the end of the project. Also the skirt board on my stairs was janky and had huge gaps contractor was able to come up with a solution that didn't cost me more with 1/4 rounds to cover the gaps. Original installation date of 8/26, No show and no call. Job postponed until 8/28. 2nd time, no one shows up and no one calls. Job delayed until 8/1. 3rd time, again no one shows up and no one calls. Job again delayed for the 4th time. Must now wait until 8/8 without any resolution. Wish I did not go with Empire Today and should have gone with another company. On 8/2, a installation team arrived at my door unannounced and began work. Job halted due to a lack of supplies. I've heard it all. Called Empire to schedule a free consultation. They booked me for a Saturday. A sales rep showed up at my house the Friday before. I let her know that my appointment was for the following day and she asked if there was any way to make myself available. I let her know that I was actually at work and could not. I called the company and they admitted they booked me for two days in error but would not be able to make it out the following day as originally promised. I said to cancel the whole thing. The rep on the phone was very nice and asked if he could reschedule for 9-11 the following Saturday and give me $50 off if I chose Empire for the inconvenience. I agreed. The following Saturday I received a voicemail 30 min into my window stating the double booked the rep and they would not be able to make it between 9 and 11 but would instead be coming from 11 to 11:30. At 11:15 I receive another voicemail from the call center stating the rep had tried to reach me several times and if I could call back. I called at 11:17 and was told to please hold while they called the rep. After 6 minutes the call center employee gets back on the line and reiterated that the rep called me several times and had already left. I asked how could that be when 1. I received the voicemail to call back 2 min prior 2. I had no missed calls 3. I live in a condo and the rep didn't use the call box... Sounds to me like he didn't show. Won't be using this company. I hired Empire Today last year, short overview: the crew cause $3k+ in damages to my home, installed the floors wrong, got into an argument with my neighbor and called him the N-word. This company installed carpet in 8 areas of my house. Within 18 months, carpet in 7 of the areas started to come up and there are big air pockets under the carpet all over my house, which is both hazardous and unattractive. The carpet they replaced had been there for 13 years and never came up in a single place. I contacted Empire Today, who said that they only guarantee their work for a year and that they would give me a quote to come fix it--they want me to pay to fix their own incompetent installation! I asked to speak to a supervisor and they said no one was available and I would get a call back in a few days--that was months ago and no one has called. I payed them before they started working and while they were working they never checked or mention that my door won't open. the customer service is so bad it took 6 calls to customer service to try and reach a manager. the sales person whose name is sarkis totally misrepresented the entire job. John was our salesperson and he was so great! Everything he told us turned out to be true. We had carpet installed one day which was great- crew was on time, fast, clean and product was awesome. John is very responsive via texts. Then we bit the bullet and had them install hardwood on our bottom floor. Took a full week as projected. Crew was amazing! When I told them they made a mistake on the baseboard (brought 2" but we needed 5") it was no problem and they switched it out. They had to level a part of our concrete slab and gave us the estimate and did a great job. Again, crew was so amazing moving our stuff around which included a home gym with really heavy stuff! Empire is very nice from salesman to the installation team, they showed up on the day we set and were done with 3 bedrooms within 2-3 hours, ripped up the old floor, put down the new ones and helped us move some of the heavy funiture out of the bedrooms. Very nice and respectful, I am including pictures of the finished rooms which they vacuumed after they were done but that only got up all the dirt, I had to sweep all the random carpet pieces that were left since I have a 1 year old that will grab and eat it but that took all of 5 minutes to sweep. In my experience with them, they sold me the wrong floors for my home and didn't want to fix the problem until after about 10 calls to their corporate office. I purchased what I thought was Mohawk Main Gate Ebony Oak laminate (RevWood) flooring from Empire today on 8/21/21. (Although a thorough online search only shows it on Empires site!) I was preparing to sell my home and getting new mid grade flooring was one of the last items on my list. I had requested vinyl plank in my appointment scheduling request and something waterproof and dog scratch proof/resistant but that my dogs would not slip and slide on either...all of this was conveyed to the salesman in person as well. 1st the salesman showed up without samples of what I had requested. Instead he showed up with ONLY laminate products. He also arrived with one book of samples. When I asked about the 50% off sale advertisement on the site he did everything he could to NOT show me those products or give me a quote. We discussed laminate and the fact I was not using it in the entryways, kitchen, or bathrooms. I was assured that laminate shared most if not all of the characteristics of vinyl plank flooring and would suit my needs as I described them. Well I went and purchased a laminate product based on this (mis)information. I assumed that based on the conversation this would be comparable to the vinyl plank. I paid the $11,000 and change upfront and then scheduled an install appointment. The install team showed up a day early! They were late, and stayed late. I have since learned (from experience) that this product is NOT water Resistant let alone waterproof as the package of planks clearly states. I had a normal water spill which resulted in the seams buckling and swelling. This was on the day after completing the installation. Also my poor dogs skid and skittered all over the place and I found myself putting down rugs and putting up gates to keep this to a minimum. Bottom line is I would really like this product replaced, with what I originally asked for. The buyer of the house has asked that the floors be repaired or replaced. I don't feel it is comparable to Vinyl plank flooring and am upset that I was shown this instead of the vinyl plank to begin with and pressured into purchasing. I did not finance this purchase but paid for it upfront. I wasn't provided with any information such as the specifications, warranty etc. I did contact Mohawk about their warranty AFTER I went online and found a copy on my own. I was told that because Empire had actually purchased the product from Mohawk that they were considered the "buyer" for warranty purposes!!! I was further told I would have to contact them and they would file a claim on my behalf. I did do my due diligence (I'm including this because Erin Tuohy the representative of Empire stated during a conversation that it wasn't the salesman's job to know about the products he's selling?) and inquire about the products with the salesman, who really should be knowledgeable about the features and differences... I also asked if there was very much difference between the cheaper product and the next grade up and was informed there wasn't really. My husband was on FaceTime with me during this conversation. I chose this product, the basic RevWood over the RevWood Plus, not because of the cheaper cost but because of the color it was available in. It just looked better with my home. As I stated, I have attempted to file a claim to have this repaired or replaced with Mohawk and have been directed to Empire to file the claim on my behalf. I don't understand this as I am the actual owner of the product. It is in my home and paid for in full. When I attempted to first contact empire it was 8/23. I was on hold for 30:09 minutes then the system hung up on me. I called back and the same thing occurred except I only made it to 14:85. I then tried the "live chat" which took me to email stating agents were offline and gave me a choice to email or hang up the chat session (which never started). I emailed and received the standard automatic response saying I'd be contacted and my message was received. I waited 8 days in which I did have contact but it was a representative asking how the install went. I finally had significant contact on 8/31 from Erin Tuohy...only when Empire received a claim and complaint from my credit card company; not in regard to my email. They offered to replace the damaged area but said I had to drop the claim. I said nope. She offered to still repair the damage and stated it was separate from the claim. I clarified this in two emails and then scheduled the repair for that Friday. No one called or showed up. But a follow up call came on Monday! They wanted to reschedule. I had a consultant come to my home on March 15 for a consultation for blinds. I was told to pay a deposit to keep the price locked in and if I decided to change my mind I had three days to do so.
