This place was not much to look at from the outside, but walking in was a different story. Simple but beautiful, with soft ambient music lightly playing. The sound of the sizzling wok in the kitchen can be heard in the dining room as each dish is meticulously prepared to order. My service was fantastic! While I was awaiting my order, my server saw me taking photos from my seat and asked if I wanted her to grab me some closer shots, I was impressed! I went to lunch here the other day with my daughter. I was sooooo frustrated with this place, thats why they only get two stars. First of all their portions have got a lot smaller. But that wasnt the l kicker. I wanted to have a nice lunch and talk to my daughter. The waitress rushed us so that it bordered obscene! She interrupted us sooo many times and I'm not complaining that she was too efficient, she was annoying to the point of rude. I couldnt get in any good conversation as we couldnt even complete a thought! She was obviously wanting to turn the table quickly BUT A- they were not busy B-they had plenty of tables available C-they were not on a waiting list D- customers were only trickling in so she did NOT need our table, if she did I wouldve understood. People not only pick a restaurant for its food but also for the ambiance and comfortableness of it. I kept telling her we were fine, hoping she'd get the hint, she didnt. And unless you had experienced it, you probably are thinking it sounds like she was a good efficient waitress, but NO, it was so rude, and I'm sure she was trained to get customers in and rush them out as the manager lady kept coming over too as if we needed more interruptions! So by you rudely rushing us out may have got you a table quicker that you didnt even need but now youve lost a customer, so please make note of this, you were not on a waiting list, you did not need that table, so let your customer have an enjoyable experience and quit being interruptive and rude. Sure refill the tea, tale a plate, ask us if we are alright but then thats it, we were not there long, we ended up leaving and went to talk in the car. Thanks for a very bad experience, you only got two stars because I enjoyed my soup even though it was small, by the way egg drop soup costs pennies to make, you didnt need to make that smaller! read more

I've been eyeing this place for years but always forget it's there. Today we finally ventured in and tried a few dishes. Overall it wasn't the best Chinese American food but it wasn't the worst. Somewhat in the middle perhaps mediocre flavors. Egg drop soup was rather salty and hunan beef had a sauce flavor I wasn't accustom too that we all didn't really enjoy but ate it cuz we were hungry. Service was great and atmosphere is clean. I bet their bathrooms are clean. Anywho, I'd like to try it again one day. Lots of tables for larger gatherings. Date loved his lo mein. Enjoy read more

The food is....food. It's really hit or miss. Almost as though you get better care depending on who's manning the stove, though I can't prove that. Egg rolls, filling is bland. Wonton soup and hot and sour soup? Pretty good, especially on chilly nights. I like the moo shu, but sometimes the protein is lacking. Went for early dinner today. We had the lettuce wraps and one of the Specials - Spicy Crispy with Beef. It was absolutely fabulous!! I had gone to the Irving location for years in the 1900's. I've been to this location several times as well but it had been a while. What a wonderful surprise that the food and service was just as I remember!! Highly recommend!! I ordered take out, and it wasn't good. I ordered the orange peel chicken with fried rice. The chicken was tough and chewy. There was also liquid pooling at the bottom of the container, like maybe the sauce wasn't sticking to the chicken. The rice was also bad, worse than the kind you can buy in the freezer aisle at the grocery. Some of it was crunchy/undercooked. I've also never seen fried rice that's still white. Disappointed is an understatement. I couldn't finish it, so I'm $16 poorer and still hungry. read more

We've been coming to Empress of China (EOC) for many years and have always had a good experience. We also used to of to their "sister" restaurant in Southlake (Howard Wang's), which closed shortly after COVID. EOC is pretty standard Chinese American fare, but it is done very well and is reasonably priced. Portions are on the large size - large enough that we can take home the rest and have another couple of meals from the one serving. I've gotten several items, including the Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Stir Fry, Mandarin Pecan Chicken, Lemon Chicken, and others. All were excellent. The egg roll appetizers are a great way to start, especially with the hot mustard sauce. Staff is always friendly and attentive. The music tends to be on the "Chinese hotel muzak" channel, but it's not a distraction. Interior design is sort of basic 1980's style (wavy track lights, glass block) and could do with a refresh, but again, it is not a big deal. Dinner for two (with ice teas) is reasonably priced at around $40. I highly recommend EOC. read more

Everything I ordered was served cold. I had to send my wonton soup back to be heated. The Canton egg roll was cold as was the Four Seasons. I didn't bother sending either back. I simply asked for the check, paid, and left. The service was less than friendly. I'll never understand how places like this stay in business. I was ignored by the two people at the front when I entered. After seeing me stand there for about five minutes, they finally addressed me. Two minutes later, I was finally seated. The food seem OK however spareribs was overcooked and I felt that the portion size was not up to par. The ambience was not pleasant and it was pretty dark and the drinks tasted like it came out of the toilet plus the food had too much MSG and it was not prepared correctly. Therefore I'm glad that I only visit this place once and I was out of town at the time when I visit this place when I go back there again absolutely not and this is a place. Caution: Nothing like Irving location and I been going to Irving location for 30 yrs. It is like everything is different the way they prepare the food. Recommendation: Bring the chef from Irving location to this one and your reviews will go up. Use the same ingredients and the same recipe as the Irving location. Food: Very Salty, pepper steak not fried, meat very soft, Egg roll not done. They stated Irving egg roll was pork but I don't believe that, I thought they were chicken but even still this location needs help making egg rolls, no flavor. Empress of China has always maintained it's greatness over the years! I have been coming to this location for about ten years now and the service and food still remain top notch. They have all that you could ask for in a local chinese restaurant. Be it from Beef and broccoli, delicious scallops, the exquisite egg drop soup and hot and sour soup to their amazing General Tso's chicken. Any order that you have here will come out great! I really like the fact that no matter how busy you are greeted warmly at the door and depending on the day free to choose your table. This never changes even if you are by yourself or with a group. The servers are pretty fast with the drinks, as in never really letting you have an empty glass. The service is great and the waitresses always seem to have a smile. I can't so for the waiters but hey that is OK when you have a ton of people in your restaurant. I will say the food can take a while to appear but that is because they are just so busy at times. If you have an hour to spare this is the place to be. Not only does it have great food, but the ambiance is very nice too. Very open windows great lighting and tasteful decor make up for a great meal and enjoyable conversation. Since I have been coming here so long, this totally one of my go to places if I want quality, service and a great meal, and I will contiue to keep on coming back in the future. read more

I loved this place! So far I've had Hunan Chicken (white meat), Wonton soup, Crab Rangoons, and Jalapeno Chicken (white meat)...all delicious! I'm used to most Chinese restaurants food having low quality taste and ingredients, but this place, the flavors are complex and the ingredients you can tell are fresh. The only criticism I have to offer is the Crab rangoons honestly are not made in the familiar fashion and were not sufficiently stuffed and the fried rice is more like white rice with some veggies.. But that aside I think I can add this to one of my favorite Chinese places in the DFW area! read more

Jumbo Noodle Soup has been a favorite of mine for over 20yrs. Spicy, truly jumbo in size, and immediately addictive! Be expected to sweat, sniff, and slurp your way through this one of a kind meal that'll easily feed two. They're hot mustard is beyond POTENT. I love it so much though, and I so often dip one of the complimentary crispies a little too generously. Hurts so good everytime! I've only dined-in at this particular restaurant, and the food is always made to order & unbelievably (in temperature) hot! Recommendations: Egg Drop Soup Hot and Sour Soup Wonton Soup Spring Roll (fried) Pecan Chicken or Shrimp Snow White Seafood Soup Even though I'm not a tofu person, I REALLY want to try their Mapo Tofu because I think they'd get the spice level right.
