Garlic Chicken in Garlic Sauce / 鱼香鸡
    Jim S.

Great experience. Great decor. Had Chicken in garlic sauce. Good size portion. Oddly charge for rice, but only $1. No biggie. Also had Kung Poa Chicken. Veggies cut in cubes and still crunchy. Hot/sour Soup also very good.. Only hold back was garlic. Chicken could have used more vegetables. Waitress advised we could have ordered to add broccoli or other vegetables. Good to know for their next trip. Otherwise the sauces were really excellent. Not overly sweet or overly hot. Well seasoned and executed. Definitely coming back.

First time. Service was responsive. Came to try the "Szechuan Boiled Fish," which is my fav. But actually, I tried the "Sliced Fish in Spicy Oil." Both are similar $26 fish soups. Should've done a side-by-side, but it was only me. Lol. The fish was exquisite. The heat was also good. This dish pairs really well with rice; I also enjoy taking the leftovers home, letting them sit overnight in the fridge, and enjoying with more rice. Mmm! But I am from out of town and was alone, so I ate it all there. They don't have WiFi, but there was some "guest Frontier" WiFi that was good for an hour. (And you can refresh it each hour.) Next time, I would try the "Szechuan Boiled Fish." Or if that's too much, the Mapo Tofu. The radio was playing like Christian soul; new to me, but as a Christian, I didn't mind. =) Oh, and in the pic I have my Kefir from Trader Joe's. I wanted something dairy to counter the heat, if needed. Mmm.

    Vegetable fried rice

Pleasant atmosphere, pleasant waitstaff, and the food was delicious. I had a vegetable fried rice, which was delicious and flavorful. Huge portions. I had to drop them down one star because once he gave him my food, I never saw them again, they didn't stop to see how the food was or if I needed anything. That's sad.

The "Orange Chicken" without the orange sauce for some reason.
    Lexi W.

Had a decent size online order. Got orange chicken without the orange sauce, so it was just dry fried chicken with a weird texture. The fried rice I got tasted like it had too much soy or something so it was off. But the chicken egg rolls and the beef pot stickers were flavorful and delicious. Would recommend dining in over online ordering.

Braised Beef Noodle Soup / 红烧

Not too busy on a Saturday but food took a while. The braised beef noodle soup was very flavorful with lots of beef chunks. Service was friendly.

A pretty standard affair for chinese takeout. Ordered a sesame chicken with side of beef roll. The chicken was pretty good, generous portion with lots of broccoli (def a plus). The beef roll was underwhelming, could use more filling. Overall, it's probably a better deal to come for lunch price. If you're in the area, it's a fine choice.

    Tiny beef!

The portions are ridiculous for the price!! I paid over 55.00 for 3 a-la-cart dishes!!!! I paid 17.00 for a tiny little dish of meat with cilantro sprinkled on top!

    Sizzling Beef

Overpriced and revolting food! Ordered to go food for our first trip and decided on the chef's special sizzling beef. It was horrible and ridiculously overpriced. Although the beef was tender it was ruined by the cooks dumping loads of black pepper flakes into the sauce. I've eaten food from Chinese restaurants from New York City to San Francisco and am an excellent judge of a good dish (or a bad one) and this was not a good dish. Look at this photo compared to the picture online - online no pepper and beef in a golden hued brown sauce. In real life, a middling soy sauce base that cannot even be tasted because the cook threw about two tablespoons of black pepper in it. To be clear, I can handle spicy food and this black pepper doesn't even register as spicy. Just as peppery and a very boring flavor. To make matters worse, Noodle Works was stingy with adding vegetables and they charge extra for rice. I know Southlake is pricey, but this is just ridiculous. I walked in to pick up our food and it just looks like a mediocre Chinese restaurant so it's not like the ambience is anything special. It's also annoying that they advertise softened water as if that justifies the high prices they're charging for horrendous food. We had to throw this out after sampling it because who in their right mind would be happy to eat this garbage covered in black pepper? The Panda Express across the street looks practically gourmet by comparison!

Greeted with a poster/banner promoting a menu item called BLAZING DRAGON IN THE SKY....so, hey, what's not to love? We were shown a corner booth that was just perfect for our party. Our server was attentive to our needs and answered our inquiries thoughtfully and with enthusiasm. The atmosphere was the ideal setting for our gathering and the mood in the establishment was pleasant and friendly and bordered on festive. Gosh, when examining the menu was struck by how extant the variety of the appetizers were .......so we ordered four different types and were very pleased with the dumplings and the miso soup and the others that arrived. We all shared the main dish which was a crispy noodles with a large selection of vegetables and meats. The best ever! Topped off the meal earl grey ice cream and yuzu yogurt. Perfect conclusion.

Rather than focus on that, I wanted to see how the food held up on this visit. We started with the Wagyu Beef Dumplings, and they were one of the best dishes of the night. The filling was juicy and flavorful with a nice balance of Wagyu beef, ginger, onions, cabbage, and scallions. The wrapper wasn't too thick, allowing the filling to be the star. The Stir-Fried Hand-Pulled Noodles were easily my favorite dish. The fresh noodles had the perfect chewy texture and were tossed with vegetables in a savory soy sauce that coated every noodle perfectly. It's a simple dish executed extremely well. We also ordered the House Chicken Fried Rice. The fried rice itself was excellent--well-seasoned, fluffy, and flavorful. My only criticism is that the chicken lacked seasoning and didn't stand out the way the rice did. If I ordered it again, I'd probably choose beef instead. Based on this visit, I'd absolutely recommend ordering the hand-pulled noodles and Wagyu dumplings. Those two dishes alone made the trip worthwhile, and I'll be back to continue exploring the menu.

We ordered the shrimp shumai, hot oil wontons, and crispy shrimp balls for our appetizers as well which were all very good. For entrees we ordered General Tso's chicken and Mongolian beef but the Mongolian beef came out tasting unusually sweet so we informed the waitress and she replaced it with a different entree the longhorn beef and peppers which was really good, a few minutes later the manager came to the table and asked about the Mongolian beef and let us know that she had them remake it, she brought it back out to the table and this time it was done perfectly with a good amount of spice and no sweetness we were also able to keep all three entrees which was cool and she took the Mongolian beef off of our check which we very much appreciated. No biggie, the employee I spoke with was super friendly and walked me through some options after I explained my diet preferences. I ordered the veggie dumplings (steamed) and veggie Szechuan fried rice. The dumplings were out of this world - best I've had. It's hard to find good vegan dumplings, so I'm so excited to have discovered these! Definitely not your average veg dumpling, these are packed with flavor! The rice was also pretty solid, a bit oily for my liking but flavorful nonetheless.

We arrived on a Wednesday evening around 7 p.m., and surprisingly, we were the only customers there, considering it was peak dinner time. We also discovered that we needed to pre-order the duck in advance. Luckily, the lady informed us that there was one available for us, but it would take about 30 minutes. We ordered the crispy cucumber salad, xiao long bao, and the dry-fried string beans. The dry-fried string beans were my favorite. The string beans had a delightful crisp texture and a flavorful taste. The cucumber salad was also good, but some parts were a bit soggy. The XLB skin was too thick and chewy, and it didn't taste like the usual soup dumplings, which was disappointing. I was excited for the duck, but I was honestly disappointed when it arrived. The portions were quite small, considering it was a whole duck. It wasn't carved tableside, which was a letdown. Some parts of the duck were dry, and the skin wasn't crispy enough. To add to the disappointment, they charge extra for almost everything. If you want more pancakes or their homemade duck sauce (which tasted like black bean sauce), you'll have to pay an additional $5. Another thing to note is that they are BYOB, so you can bring your own alcohol. However, the menu pictures on Yelp are outdated, and they only offer whole Peking duck, not half orders. Overall, the food was just okay, and I'll probably try a different spot when I'm in the mood for duck again.
