I, too, am surprised En Su Boca only gets 3 reviews. When it comes to mexican food, I'm a picky person and have high expectations, but I've got to admit-- I was pleasantly surprised! When we arrived, the sun was out, the day was beautiful, so we chose to sit outside on the patio. Our server, whose name I cannot remember, was super friendly, down-to-earth and on her game. We ordered margaritas, draft beer, guacamole with chips and chicken tacos-- amazing! The draft beer was served in a crisp, cool glass, the guacamole was fabulous and the chicken tacos were super tasty. We will definitely be back, no question. read more

Went to Richmond for a couple of days and wanted to find some local fare. We googled a few places and just happened upon En Su Boca. It turned out to be surrounded by a St. Patrick's day festival and we didn't think we would get a seat. They had us a table in 20 minutes! We got fried fish tacos, the chorizo queso, and the wings. En Su Boca is delicious and affordable. They also have plenty of good vegetarian options. They have some fun margaritas that are pretty big (and tasty). My partner loves the different salsa options - the chips and salsa order gives you three varieties. We usually come here before the movies and it works out well because the service is pretty quick. I don't love the tortillas for the tacos, but otherwise it's the best option for Mexican food in Richmond! read more

I really wanted to love En Su Boca. The ambiance, drinks, and chips and salsa were all great! I'm a vegetarian and ordered one each of the vegetarian tacos. I made it clear when I ordered that I'm a vegetarian and didn't want meat. When I got my tacos, I ate one and didn't realize until I finished it that it was definitely chorizo, not soyrizo. Our server was very apologetic and took them off our bill. Unfortunately, someone else who said "I'm not a manager, but basically can take care of this" came over to our table and says "so I guess we like have a problem here?!" She was fairly rude and insinuated I didn't know the difference between soyrizo and chorizo. I understand mistakes happen, but she wasn't sympathetic and was so rude it really ruined the night. read more

We walked in and were promptly seated, although the patio was full so we had to sit inside. Our server didn't approach us immediately, but it was busy so we weren't really concerned. We should have been. We sat there for 20 minutes with servers and other staff constantly passing, but no one ever came. Finally, we gave up and I attempted to alert the hostess. The hostess would not even look in my direction. She was focused on the long line of people coming in the door attempting to get a table, and was actively ignoring me trying to talk to her. Awesome happy hour deals and food is pretty good. Their margarita is 5$ and is pretty damn strong for a $5 drink. They have a good beer selection with several "mexican" type beers on draft. All their tortillas are corn and their fish taco is awesome! Chicken taco is okay...... Environment is great with garage doors that open in a very chill atmosphere! Staff is very friendly. read more

This became apparent as soon as the first appetizer came out, which was chips with three different salsas, including a habanero salsa. But it became even more apparent when the 2nd appetizer - a "cheese dip" - came out. It was really good, don't get me wrong. But in actuality, the Queso Fundido Cheese Dip ($8) is really ground up housemade chorizo and grilled peppers with a thin layer of "Chihuahua cheese" on top. But if you're not a fan of spicy, the guacamole wasn't spicy and was REALLY good, and two other salsa weren't spicy at all. And my chicken tacos weren't spicy. Don't believe the fish tacos that my friend ordered were spicy either, until she poured the habenero salsa on them. They have a whole menu of interesting, awesome cocktails with ingredients so various (common and rare) that I can't remember most of them right lol Except tequila. :) En Su Boca also has a really cool patio almost adjacent to Boulevard, with a nice little wall separating patrons from traffic. I was also a fan of the colorful, festive paint job all along the outside of the building. It's very welcoming for a building that used to house pornography and trashy "romance" novels. The inside has the new typical style of concrete floors and bare walls, which equals loudness, making it difficult to talk sometimes. But it's not a big place so it's not as bad some other restaurants. Their food leaves something to be desired and the servers have had trouble checking on my table the 3 times I've been there, but the drinks are good and the atmosphere is pretty cool. There are 1 1/12 parking lots (one of the lots is so small only 4 or 5 cars can fit) and if you're in a small group of around 4 people it's a good destination, but larger parties wouldn't have much luck in the small space. Me and my boyfriend were looking for a place to grab some lunch on this Labor Day Monday and we came across this restaurant. Upon entry we were greeted by a hostess which didn't appear friendly this was evident by her facial expression and body language. I'm assuming because it was a packed house she didn't have time to greet guest as she would like. It was like where do you want to sit outside or inside and that's it no hello, no nothing .Upon seating us outside she grabbed our utensils and two cups. Our cups were placed on the table faced down, now I'm not sure about you but if I'm drinking from a cup I would prefer that my cup is faced right side up ( sanitary reasons). While taking our order, the waitress was inpatient to say the least. I know it was busy but for goodness sake we were new to the restaurant and had a few questions about the menu . Once the waitress was informed of this, she answered our questions to the best of her ability I would have preferred for her to be a bit more educated about the menu (I.E. Popular dishes, dishes she would recommend , the fact that chips are not given for free as they are other restaurants ). After taking our order, our waitress came back dropped of our cups which was again unclean. Feeling very frustrated, I asked another waitress who was very sweet for two plastic cups she provided us with the cups and went above and beyond to see if we needed anything ( kudos to her , I wished I grabbed her name ). The food was okay, I had the chicken burrito and my boyfriend had the fried fish burrito. If I do visit this restaurant again I will try something different. But overall I felt rushed !!! read more

Chips are really thick, and either cooked too much or chewy and not cooked enough. Guacamole was good but chips were so bad we couldn't enjoy them. Salsa was decent, very liquidy in my opinion. Got a chicken, carne Asada, & carnitas tacos. Carne asada was ok, had spicy salsa on top which i wasn't aware of. Chicken taco was very liquidy because it had the salsa on it. Went here on a Sunday evening and I had an okay time here. The food was the best part about this place, but had nothing else going for it. The person I was with and myself were seated outside, and we were immediately hit with cigarette smoke. No one was allowed to smoke in the area before 11:00 pm in the area we were sitting (at least that's what the sign said) but apparently in another area this is allowed but it didn't make a difference because we smelled cigarette smoke for our entire meal. Then the table we were seated at was extremely wobbly. As soon as our waitress placed water on our table it almost fell off from how much the table shifted the other way and she acted like it was nothing and just walked away without trying to fix it or move us. It would have been miserable to eat this way so I took it upon myself to shove some trash I found on the ground under one of the legs and it wasn't as bad. And the bushes we were seated near were so overgrown that they were hitting my friends head the entire time, they are 5 foot 3 inches tall so their height wasn't the issue, it was the unkempt plants. If it wasn't for the food this would have been a 2 star rating at best. The devil eggs were very delicious and the tacos we had were very tasteful as well. I wouldn't come back here other than for a quick taco and beer at the bar. As for a sit done meal, I'll pass. read more

This is the best place to get queso fondito. The queso is baked in a mini pot with peppers and onions and served with soft corn tortillas. It is amazing. The tacos are a great deal, can get four tacos for $11, etc. the tacos are simple, very close to a traditional street taco. I love the chorizo, sloppy Jose and both chicken tacos. The margaritas are very strong which is why they're at a higher price point than some other places in the area. The happy hour prices are great though. My husband and I come a lot and the service is fast and we never wait long for the food either. Staff is friendly and efficient. The venue is situated on boulevard at an angle. Get the guacamole and it automatically comes with all of the salsas and unlimited chips! Our waitress even brought us more salsa - definitely a great deal. Their chips are so good! Not your typical boring old tortilla chips. They are super filling though. The have lots of vegetarian/vegan options which is great for me, and it's a little bit of a different take on traditional Mexican, which I like. Stopped in for a drink while waiting for a movie to start and decided we needed to come back for food in the near future. Fast forward 6 days and my brother and I came down for dinner. The patio is awesome! Plenty of room and surrounded by plants. You don't feel like there is a busy street right there. The waitress answered all of our questions and gave great recommendations (try the queso). We both went with the 4 tacos for $11 and there was just too much food for me to finish. My favorite was the fish taco, nice large piece of fried fish & a creamy sauce. The carnitas were great also but be prepared for some heat with the carnitas or the chorizo. Nothing says yummy to my tummy like a tray full of delicious tacos! The fish tacos are my go to over here because they are light and crispy. The tortillas are doubled and they put a lot of filling to split the tacos and stuffing adequately. I like their deep fried chips and their sauces. The habenero sauce is pretty spicy. I am updating my review for en su boca from 3 stars to 4. My boyfriend and I didn't have the best experience with service and food when we first tried this place and it caused us to stay away for a while. We finally decided to give them a second chance and I'm sooo glad we did. This is our new favorite Mexican spot. About the food: -The tacos are always so flavorful and packed full of ingredients- best taco there is the yucatan pork its a MUST TRY. The only thing they leave me wanting on their menu is a fried shrimp taco. Im such a shrimp taco gal and I have confidence that this place would make a damn good one. -The chips are homemade and crunchy and I love the variation of salsas that come with, especially the habanero (be careful though). -The chorizo queso is one of my favorite appetizers. But its nothing like the runny queso that you are used to. Its basically a pot full of gooey hot cheese, peppers, and chorizo all melted together that comes with tortillas. SO GOOD. The prices are a tad expensive. You're paying about $8 for one marg, and the apps arent cheap either, tacos are fairly priced. However the downside to this place is still the service. The past few waiters i've had I havent been impressed with at all. It seems like they are a little careless about how they present themselves and the restaurant. One guy we had brought the wrong beers a couple times and charged us wrongly and just seemed uneducated. Another time we sat outside and got the slowest service ever. First time visit. Had drinks and a few bites with a friend. This place is small, but open and inviting. The bar offers more seating than a lot of places twice the size as this restaurant. We sat at a table this time, and had no wait on a busy Friday night. Score! I went with the Russian Agua Fresca to drink, which is vodka mixed with strawberries, agave, and lime. I thought the drink was going to be pink because of the strawberries, so I was a little confused when I saw that it was pale green, but it tasted amazing. In fact, these taste so good, they could be dangerous. I would have had more if they weren't $9 a pop. The bottomless chips and salsa cost $3, and come with 3 salsas. One of them is a mango habanero which is so spicy its inedible for probably 70% of the people who order it, so I'm sure they'll eventually need to change that up. Wasted food is no bueno. The other 2 salsas are the standard tomato, and a tomatillo-avocado creation and they were good, but both lacked any heat at all. The chips though, are the real deal. If you've been to Latin America and had chips there, that's what you're gonna find here. Those are worth $3 alone 'cause you can't find those anywhere else in Richmond. We tried carne asada tacos and fish tacos. While I typically love steak tacos, I was not crazy about their carne asada tacos. Typically carne asada is made with skirt steak, and what was on my taco was definitely not skirt steak. I just didn't care for it too much. Now, the southern fried fish taco on the other hand was amazing. The waitress recommended it, but I was going to order it anyway. It's one thick piece of battered fish topped with a cabbage slaw and a mayo kind of sauce. Soooo good. Definitely going to be craving that later this week. Eh, it was ok. I went for lunch because I saw the Yelp reviews and thought that going here for lunch would be worth the trip. I had the slow roasted carnitas and it was satisfying, like sex with an old ex, nothing new or special, just the same old stuff. The pork was a bit citrusy (if that is a word) and a bit too much, but it was tender. The arbol salsa that was on it needed a bit more fire to set the overbearing citrus flavor off a bit. En Su Boca! I had an immense craving for Carne Asada tacos (cilantro was calling my taste buds) and that brought me here. I sat at the bar, ordered a frozen margarita, and while I waited, I had a lovely conversation with my server and she recommended the fish tacos (which I ordered to try with my meal.) Bonus points because my food came quickly, and my mouth was in heaven. My frozen margarita was strong, flavorful, and hit the spot on a warm summer evening. I ordered one chicken, one fish Taco, and two Carne asads steak tacos. Out of all four tacos, the new contender to my taste buds (Fried Cod tacos) was a knockout due to its zesty flavor and balance of textures with the corn tortillas, lime, special sauce, and cilantro. Unfortunately, the other tacos were not bad but they fell short flavor wise in comparison to the fish Taco. I really like the food here at En Su Boca - I'd likely give the food 4 stars. They serve your typical fresh Mexican tacos, burritos, etc. The problem with this place is in the service. Upon my recent visit was likely the worst. To start, we were seated at a filthy table, I mean there was rice and beans all over it. Once the hostess came and cleaned all was fine, but I mean, don't you clean before you seat us? Drinks to forever to come out. Come on, a house margarita shouldn't take longer than our apps. The place was downright freezing. I know they've got those huge garage doors, but man, the place was cold! Our waitress had a serious attitude problem. She was rude the entire night. I know we all have off nights, but this was bad. All comments were made in a rude manner, to the point where when I left I really never wanted to go back. I'll likely go back because I like the food, but man, she was rude. When it was time to pay, we split it two ways. After we asked for our checks, our waitress came back and confirmed who ordered what. When the checks came, they were wrong. When they came back, they were wrong again. When I inquired as to why we weren't given happy hour pricing, my waitresses response was "sorry, I don't have a clock." A simple response such as, "I'm sorry, our happy hour ended before the order was put" in would have been acceptable. When the checks finally came, the corrections were circled - and I mean circled. Not a polite underline, but a circle that was grooved so hard it made an indent in the paper - I mean, did that pen even have any ink left. Last night's visit - 1.0 Stars. Everything came out great and promptly even though it was clearly busy. The service is not the greatest though. We were told to sit at the bar to be served quicker so we had no problem with that, but we were not greeted for at least 10 minutes and two people were behind the bar. When it comes to tacos Don't Look Back has been my go to thus far; but tonight was Halloween and En Su Boca was crested with a giant inflatable grim reaper looking thing. The tacos were about on par with Don't look back (Add some portobello mushroom tacos to the menu and I'm sold). Where En Su Boca really shines is the salsas; the grilled habanero salsa is near perfection if you dig spicy. Stellar atmosphere; it was a little chilly out on the patio but staff had some cool blankets on hand and ambient lighting FTW. Being Halloween; with two kiddos on deck I was expecting a a waitress/waiter who wanted nothing to do with us/ waiting to clock out for the night; but it was def the opposite.
