En Su Boca! I had an immense craving for Carne Asada tacos (cilantro was calling my taste buds) and that brought me here. I sat at the bar, ordered a frozen margarita, and while I waited, I had a lovely conversation with my server and she recommended the fish tacos (which I ordered to try with my meal.) Bonus points because my food came quickly, and my mouth was in heaven. My frozen margarita was strong, flavorful, and hit the spot on a warm summer evening. I ordered one chicken, one fish Taco, and two Carne asads steak tacos. Out of all four tacos, the new contender to my taste buds (Fried Cod tacos) was a knockout due to its zesty flavor and balance of textures with the corn tortillas, lime, special sauce, and cilantro. Unfortunately, the other tacos were not bad but they fell short flavor wise in comparison to the fish Taco. I am updating my review for en su boca from 3 stars to 4. My boyfriend and I didn't have the best experience with service and food when we first tried this place and it caused us to stay away for a while. We finally decided to give them a second chance and I'm sooo glad we did. This is our new favorite Mexican spot. About the food: -The tacos are always so flavorful and packed full of ingredients- best taco there is the yucatan pork its a MUST TRY. The only thing they leave me wanting on their menu is a fried shrimp taco. Im such a shrimp taco gal and I have confidence that this place would make a damn good one. -The chips are homemade and crunchy and I love the variation of salsas that come with, especially the habanero (be careful though). -The chorizo queso is one of my favorite appetizers. But its nothing like the runny queso that you are used to. Its basically a pot full of gooey hot cheese, peppers, and chorizo all melted together that comes with tortillas. SO GOOD. The prices are a tad expensive. You're paying about $8 for one marg, and the apps arent cheap either, tacos are fairly priced. However the downside to this place is still the service. The past few waiters i've had I havent been impressed with at all. It seems like they are a little careless about how they present themselves and the restaurant. One guy we had brought the wrong beers a couple times and charged us wrongly and just seemed uneducated. Another time we sat outside and got the slowest service ever. Eh, it was ok. I went for lunch because I saw the Yelp reviews and thought that going here for lunch would be worth the trip. I had the slow roasted carnitas and it was satisfying, like sex with an old ex, nothing new or special, just the same old stuff. The pork was a bit citrusy (if that is a word) and a bit too much, but it was tender. The arbol salsa that was on it needed a bit more fire to set the overbearing citrus flavor off a bit. The service was great, I cannot remember my server's name, but she was outstanding. I had a picture, but my wife made me delete her pic, sorry. First time at En Su Boca and the food was great! Ordered the bottomless chips + salsa, carne asada tacos, and grilled street corn. Everything came out great and promptly even though it was clearly busy. The service is not the greatest though. We were told to sit at the bar to be served quicker so we had no problem with that, but we were not greeted for at least 10 minutes and two people were behind the bar. Came in with a party of 8 and before the waitress began specifically stated which people would be on the same bill and made it very clear. The waitress disregarded us and said okay we will divide it up and you'll tell them when you pay what had. When we received our bill each person was responsible for 20.88 and our waitress said nothing could be done about it. We asked what about splitting our bills? We did not get a straight answer. I really, really want to like En Su Boca. Sadly, every time I eat there, I leave feeling either "meh" or totally frustrated. We took a break for a year and re-tried it this weekend. Perfect weather for patio seating. Sadly, the waitstaff was totally confused, delivering all sorts of wrong things to tables. We got our food before our drinks, and then we made friends with our neighbors as we had to laugh and exchange our mis-delivered drinks with each other. The guacamole is good (but super pricey!), the tacos are decent (although I like Boka Taco better), but the service is just really confused. Train those folks on table numbers and the order of service! A good spot to enjoy the sun, a drink, and some yummy guac., but don't expect too much more. read more

I like coming here every now and again for a burrito and a beer. The burritos are hefty and they have several options for food to stuff into your burrito. They have deals on drinks most days and the atmosphere is casual. It's not authentic Mexican cuisine, but it's large portions of good food for not a lot of money. I could not have been more disappointed by my first and last experience at En Su Boca. The only star is given to the service, as the two people my boyfriend and I encountered when we dropped in for takeout were perfectly pleasant. The food, however, deserves no stars at all. We were just looking for a snack and an excuse to try a new place, so we ordered two carnitas tacos to go. When we opened the takeout box, there were two tiny tacos ($6.68 for both) bathing in grease. I picked up one of them, determined to try it despite the slick exterior, but after one bite, I actually threw the taco in the trash. Now, I'm not one to ever waste money or food, but that was beyond subpar. Ive eaten a lot of carnitas tacos, and I can't say any have been remotely greasy, much less drenched as these were. Having read other reviews for this place, maybe this was a bad night or a bad menu item, but I can't say we will ever return to find out. Randy--I appreciate the comments. When it comes to tacos Don't Look Back has been my go to thus far; but tonight was Halloween and En Su Boca was crested with a giant inflatable grim reaper looking thing. The tacos were about on par with Don't look back (Add some portobello mushroom tacos to the menu and I'm sold). Where En Su Boca really shines is the salsas; the grilled habanero salsa is near perfection if you dig spicy. Stellar atmosphere; it was a little chilly out on the patio but staff had some cool blankets on hand and ambient lighting FTW. Being Halloween; with two kiddos on deck I was expecting a a waitress/waiter who wanted nothing to do with us/ waiting to clock out for the night; but it was def the opposite. Vampire waitress was on point; kind of mad I slept on this spot for so long. read more

This restaurant is cool, trendy, but especially delicious. Those new to the Richmond area might not get that the name is actually a double entendre. The place used to be an "Adult Bookstore" with a sign that said 25¢ movies, so "In Your Mouth" is a pun. Back to the food: It is fresh, delicious, and innovative. Fish, steak, ground meat, and more. Drinks and appetizers are good as well. Because it is trendy, you can expect a wait on Fridays and Saturdays, less during the week. If you go early, say around 5:30, you can get seated and then watch it fill up quickly. I would recommend it highly. read more

Very sad and scary story that happened to us on 09/22/19 at 4:30pm when leaving En su Boca. We've been customers from there since they opened. It has always been a favorite spot for my wife and I, sadly until today. We got there at 3:30 pm and we had our usual frozen margaritas, wings and ceviche. Our 4 week old baby started crying so we decided to ask for the check and go home after our meal. When Leaving the building, getting into our car (parked right by the handicapped spot and kind of tricky to get out of) it was imposible to leave since there was a green Car illegally parked right behind us. I rolled the windows down and asked politely to the driver to pull forward so we could get out. An En Su Boca employee was getting picked up by a friend and they proceeded to say to us" im not moving the car, you can get out". I asked this person to please move forward a little bit because it was easier for him to move forward than us try to maneuver back and forth in such a tight space with multiple blind spots and traffic coming from both directions. The two men, including the En Su Boca employee were smoking weed in the front parking lot and continued to argue with me in regards to moving their vehicle for us to leave, safely. My wife while she was sitting in the backseat taking care of the baby, rolled her window down and ask again then employee with an En Su Boca t shirt, to move forward as well. That was when suddenly the employees friend pulled a gun out of his pocket right at the restaurant parking lot and did some gestures towards me like trying to start a fight. My wife and I panicked and we didn't know what to do, trying to leave that restaurant parking lot as fast as we could to save our lives. We called the restaurant right away to let them know there was a person with a weapon on their property, and that the incident involved one of their employees. An hour later around 5:30pm the manager of the restaurant (which he wasn't at the building at that time)called us. Honestly, I was very impressed with how apologetic Randy was at the beginning and how understanding he was on until we started discussing about how the employees over there started to be more unprofessional than what we are used to seeing there. Their employees always look dirty in the front of the house. Their kitchen staff cooks food with no hair nets or gloves to protect the food. This is when the manager started to get no so apologetic ( i guess trying to not get fired by the company) to us and said he has more than 90 employees and can't control it all. I told him The kitchen employees don't practice any food sanitation standards and they are always smoking on the back street seating down in dirty plastic chairs right behind the dirty dumpsters. I guess like we do every time, all customers can see them when leaving the restaurant. Its been times my wife and I left wishing ourselves luck for that employee outside looking dirty not to have cooked our food that day. I told Randy right away thank you for your call but as a costumer I had to post this review for the safety of others. He said no problem because he was going to take it down right away. As you can see so far, this place has been slowly deteriorating, which is disappointing to say the least. I hope this situation helps this restaurant group to hire better employees, overall. Very mixed experience. First of all, our server was good. She was prompt, and refilled the water constantly. The food is what is mixed. I ordered the guacamole app and it was good- especially the 3 different salsas. They were each, different, flavorful, and good. I then ordered a chicken taco, a carnitas taco, and a chorizo taco. Basically, the tacos were "bland", "meh", "just ok". The chorizo taco in particular wasn't very good. The chorizo was the identical conspiracy of sloppy joe- exact same consistency. Look up pictures of chorizo tacos on Google, and they all have delicious looking chunks of chorizo... not soupy, sloppy joe like consistency. The chicken and carnitas tacos were better, but all they had was the refs also on them, nothing else. No crunch, no green, no nothing. Yeah... I thought Don't Look Back was just ok, but there tacos are a lot better than this. read more

Neat location off boulevard, it has a great vibe indoors. I had the tacos and was not disappointed. My eyes were bigger than my stomach though, 3 tacos should do anyone just fine. The fish taco was on point. The chorizo had the right amount of spice to tickle your tongue. The chicken had a slow cooked smokey flavor and the carnitas tasted juicy enough to eat alone. All served with corn tortillas; it enhanced the tacos to the well-known SoCal mexican taste. All the beer you can try, even Pacifico on draft which is usually left out of most Mexican style restaurants. You can bet I will return to this place to enjoy other areas of the menu. Note: the chips are thick, so don't eat too many because you will fill up faster with these as opposed to the thin corn chips served at other places. Great guac and salsas. read more

Love the feel of this spunky, lively joint with a supremely laid-back vibe! We came here for sone good food, and a good time, and we left with all of the above. The menu is limited to tacos, burritos, quesadillas and appetizers, and the food is quite tasty, not to mention fresh. Now, the other focus is the plethora of alcohol, which is perfect for the college-like establishment. Plenty to choose from, and the consistent traffic of visitors underscores. Now, the service *is* spotty, but again, the college feel is alive and well. Still, though, if the owner steps up her/his game with regards to hiring legit servers, who know how to hustle, the reviews would be glowing. I'm pretty chill, so my server expectations are not as high as some, hence the 4. I've been here for happy hour and dinner, and also for the bar later at night. For happy hour they have delicious $6 margaritas, I got the chips and salsa as an appetizer, it came with 3 different kinds of salsa, they were delicious (one red, one green, one orange). We didn't get the guacamole because it was pricey ($10 on the day I was there, yikes!). They have many options of tacos for a good price. My favorite taco was the carne asada. I did wish the menu had more options, it's pretty much just a taco bar, but the tacos are very good! I have also been here for more of a bar scene, and enjoyed the atmosphere. Both dinner/happy hour & the bar scene get pretty packed! You can definitely sit at the bar with the friendly bar tenders if you don't want to wait for a table for dinner, that's never a bad option. En Su Boca has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Richmond. The food is consistently good, the staff is always on point and the drinks are delicious. This time in particular was no different, but it was worth mentioning. I called and set up a reservation a day before to accommodate 9 people outside on one of the nicest days we've had in a long time. Emily, who took my reservation is a friend of mine and went out of her to make sure we had what we needed. This evening another table of 20 made reservations as well and they called and asked my flexibility on timing. I wasn't able to budge much with my timing so I was a little worried about how it was going to go. We show up at 7:25 and the table is set, menus are there with correct amount of silverware, cups and water pitchers to provide for everyone. Simple things like this go unnoticed too often. Richmond restaurants during nice evenings that have patios are insanely busy. To have it set up and be served in timely fashion on top of the people at the bar and walk ins really proves that this place is run well. Once we were sat, Tori, our waitress, was friendly, personable and knowledgeable of everything we had questions about. She didn't seem rushed to get us in and out even though we were taking up a good portion of the patio. Everyone's order was right, delivered in good time, and tasted amazing. I can't say it enough how impressed I am with this place and it's staff. The little things that make for a nice dinner are only noticed when they aren't right, but En Su Boca didn't miss a beat from all aspects of the evening. My friend Emily who helped us set up the reservation and even hit me up the next to make sure I was happy with my service. It says a lot about an establishment when the employees take ownership and have an investment in where they work. I stopped here on the way home and it was absolutely wonderful. Homemade chips and salsa were unbelievable, the habanero is my favorite even if it is extremely spicy! This place is so good my friends and I worked it into our next trip just so we could stop and enjoy the tacos, margaritas, wings (yes wings at a Mexican place), and chips. I'm shocked by the amount of negative reviews for En Su Boca (meaning I was expecting there to be little to none). I've been here literally countless times with many different people and have absolutely never had a sub-par experience. Service has always been amazingly prompt and friendly, the drinks have always been fantastic, and the food is my absolute ideal drunk food. I was inspired to leave a review after discussing restaurant gift cards, and realized this is the only place I could think of that I'd ever REALLY want a gift card to. Please never close, En Su Boca. Was delicious! I absolutely destroyed my order of taco's. I had the marinated chicken and slow roasted carnitas, both of which were moist, mouthsexingly delicious and came out in less than 10 minutes. I just went again about a year later and it was extremely disappointing. I'm not sure if it was because we went on a Monday night but it's like I went to a completely different spot. We ordered 10 tacos in 5 variations and everything was subpar. The steak tacos were gummy and the topping were the same on all the tacos. Ingredients didn't seem fresh and service was not friendly. I took my partner here and we both felt horrible in the morning and had bad stomach problems all day. With a heavy heart, I can no longer recommend En Su Boca :( read more

I love this place, been going since it opened, but recently I've been kind of disappointed in the quality. Since COVID is a thing I haven't eaten in the restaurant but have ordered take out at least 5 times. Every time I order I get the same thing, carnitas salad. But every time I get home and look at the food it's different. Not enough of one ingredient or missing things entirely, portions are completely different every time so I never know how much food I'm going to get. It's always delicious, but sometimes I end up having to complete the meal myself, like by adding salsa they missed the last time I ordered there. I know the pandemic has been a learning curve but talking with other people I know they too have experienced the "hit or miss" lately. Our original plan last night was to go to another taco place for my birthday but I guess they were too busy to acknowledge anyone walking through the door so we left and decided to try En Su Boca, and I'm so glad we did. We walked in and were greeted and seated immediately. Fantastic tacos, margaritas and service. I don't recall our waitress' name but she was so attentive and great. Their tacos are great! Fair warning, some of their tacos are quite spicy (unless you can tolerate it!). I recommend getting their corn as an appetizer as well. The only downside is that this place can get very crowded and loud in such a tight space. read more

My family and I had an impromptu mini reunion when several members were traveling through Richmond. Due to the central location we chose this restaurant. Since we traveled in multiple vehicles parking was interesting even though it was a Monday afternoon but in an urban location what can you expect? Thankfully two of us were able to park on Blvd. and after finding the miniscule parking lot full my sister snuck into the lot next door. At 1:30 on a Monday afternoon, the restaurant was two thirds full inside and on the patio yet we were told that due to a shortage of servers we would have to wait. Thankfully the front bar patio was empty so we could sit and wait outside. After about fifteen minutes our inside table was ready. I would not recommend groups of over 4 people as there appeared to be no tables to accomodate over 4, our party of 5 had to squeeze into a 4 person table with one of us sitting at the head partially blocking the aisle. By the time we were seated and ordered thankfully the restaurant had emptied out considerably. The chips and salsa were very good and worth paying for and the complimentary bottled water was refreshing on a summer day. Most of us were satisfied with our entrees, though the 13 year old in our group did not like his steak taco. He lives in Costa Rica so was used to the chunks of meat in a soft tortilla though it was smothered in the same moderately spicy green salsa as the chip dip with no other toppings. To be fair I believe one can pay extra for toppings but none of us thought to. The rest of us were satisfied with our mostly vegetarian entrees but if I go back I would probably pay for the extra toppings. If I return it definitely would be with a smaller group and for a quiet leisurely sit down meal I would opt for a late lunch or very early dinner unless one is in the mood for a crowded loud bar scene which I imagine is the vibe during peak hours. read more
