I have been here twice from out of town and enjoyed my meal both times. The first time I came with my friends and ate outside with drinks. The second time I came with my girlfriends family and sat inside with kids. Everyone loved the food both times and I would definitely stop again. I have been a few times for drinks and once for food. Good drink specials and tasty food. Usually busy, but never had trouble finding a seat and getting service. I got the burrito and it was huge and for an extra few dollars I got it covered with cheese and salsa. Interesting and high quality food that seems to be missing so often in Richmond. read more

GREAT PLACE! We had such a great experience here and only wish we had known about it earlier. The habanero salsa is fantastic! Tinga chicken tacos, carne asada, and grilled chicken were all a hit! I don't come here often, but this particular visit was disappointing to say the least. I came in around 12:25, peak of the lunch hour. My friend was already there, so we were both ready within 10 minutes. Around 1, we started getting curious on where the food was. When the waiter came by, he apologized and said the food will be right out and comped the chips and salsa. 1:15 comes, still no food. Finally at 1:20, food comes, her food is wrong, and both are lukewarm to say the least. When asked for management, nobody showed up, just waiter saying there will be no charge. I understand it's busy, but the waiter clearly forgot the food. All we wanted was an honest answer. I hope to be back, but not anytime soon. read more

Went out in search for a great place to eat on a Saturday night at 7pm. (Bad time to try and get a table, right?) My wife and I walked in and it was pretty crowded but we were able to get 2 seats at the bar with no wait. We were immediately greeted by one of the best bar tenders I have come across in 20 years as an adult. Even though he was very busy he took the time to explain the menu as well as answer questions on drinks. (Also, introduced us to Mezcal.. which I highly recommend) We started with the chips and 3 types of salsa, all very good! Couldn't stop eating them. Our meals were great and so were the drinks... pretty sure they had some magic in them! It was pretty crowded but what can you expect from a place that good. Food and drinks were great!! I've visited here once and don't foresee myself going back. My friends and I ordered a round of shots, our waiter ended up spilling a few. He brought back additional shots but they were different. We've been to En Su Boca twice now, the first time they were closed but were staff ware still super friendly and gave us some ideas of places that would still be open around that time. We decided to go back today during normal meal times and were pleased to try their quesadillas and veggie chorizo burrito salad. Food had a lot of flavor and service was excellent! One of many very good places to eat in Richmond. Started with the complementary chips with guac and salsa. Chips were not the standard super thin ones that you get at most Mexican restaurants. They were thick, which made for great scooping of the delicious guac. For the meal, I had the Southern Fried fish tacos. They were quite good. Four of them cost $11, which I found to be very reasonable. Their taste was terrific. I would definitely eat them again, but only after trying some of the 7 other options they have for tacos. For me, the only negative was the slightly slow service, but with the good complementary appetizers, even this was not a big deal. Definitely worth checking out if you are in Richmond. read more

Yummy food but expect a crowd. I have been here twice for dinner, once on a Saturday and once on a holiday Monday, and both times this place was packed!!! Expect at least a 45 min wait. The interior is pretty small with small tables. If you are at a table near the bar, expect there to be lots of bar patrons inches away from you. It's loud inside. They have a patio you can chill on while you wait for your table. Their margaritas are pretty good. You have to buy chips and salsa for the table, it's $3. Their entrees are super delicious though!! I've turned the tacos into a salad and the shredded chicken is delicious! Taco salad doesn't come with dressing just FYI. The last time I went we ordered a fondue queso dip and it came with tortillas rather than chips which was unexpected but they let us swap for chips. Food came out quickly. If crowds and noise give you anxiety, don't come, but they do have good food. read more

First, the great part. Somebody had put on an absolutely killer collection of 70s soul music, including Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street". I really enjoyed the music. My wife wanted me to experience En Su Boca's San Francisco-style Mexican food. I was looking forward to that, since you can only hit Su Casa and La Casita so many times without getting a bit bored. We got the bottomless chips and I got a Carne Asada Burrito. From there it got a bit disappointing. The flavors in the salsas I tasted as well as the burrito were *different* but I wouldn't call them very good. Not bad, just different and not all that compelling. To be honest, we ate in a hole in the wall place over off of Staples Mill that included a sandwich with cooked hot dogs cut in half (!) that was much, much better flavor-wise. That dinner cost me about $7.00 and we begged that restaurant for more salsa to take home. Su Boca' flavors may be more sophisticated, but they aren't all that good. Not bad, just nothing to go crazy over. Is their burrito better than Chipotle? I would rather have Chipotle. Value is the biggest issue. We got the bottomless chips, which I think were just some rolled dough that was placed in a fryer. They came out greasy and tasted bland. The burrito was $11.00 and for that you get a burrito. That's it. No rice, no nothin'. Compare this with the sides you get at most Mexican restaurants along with free chips and salsa, and it is not a very good value for not so great food. The service we received could not be called bad. But it was a bit sullen and lethargic. Each person we dealt with was polite and professional , but they seemed like they were trying to say as few words as they could and then leave. It was like being waited on by robots. All and all not a terrible experience. But the food is more different than tasty. The biggest problem is the value aspect -- for what you pay you really don't get great value. We are recently relocated from AZ so we were looking for good mexican food, a coworker suggested this place. Overall the food is very good. I am kicking myself for not having the fish tacos since that seems to be the item to have. We had the chips with three salsa's that were good. The carna burrito was outstanding. My girlfriend had the veggie burrito,she said the rajas (peppers) added amazing flavor. So overall the food / atmosphere was well worth 5 stars, the only thing that kept me from giving that last star was the service. We went in between lunch and dinner, we were one of three people in the whole place but our waitress was very hit and miss on checking on us. We were sitting for 10 mins before our drink order was even taken. We were enjoying adult beverages and our glasses would sit empty for awhile before we were asked if we would like another. If the place had been busy we wouldn't had given it a second thought, but since it was just us it was very noticeable. The food will bring us back for sure, but the service needs a little work. read more

The food was okay. The service was awful. It took about 15 minutes to get our drink order in and it wasn't busy. When I asked the server what flavor the agua fresca was since the menu indicated that it changed regularly, she said it was a "purply color...I don't know" and didn't bother to ask. I recently went here for a quick bite to eat while waiting for my oil to be changed. I went with my boyfriend and sat outside. We ordered the guacamole which I do not recommend. There is nothing special about it and it was too creamy. I prefer my guacamole to be a little more chunky. I got the nachos with carnitas which were delicious and huge! I want to like this place, I really do... but every time I go I hate it. I have been 5 or 6 times. The food is decent. A little over priced but decent. Drinks are overpriced and not good. the "special" sangria I had was pre-mixed, poured in old Chinese takeout soup countainer. There was one gray colored raspberry in the mix... not a well spent $9. The service it what really drives this review... my check is always wrong, it gets to the point that it is so frustrating we just pay and leave. My card was brought to a different table, luckily they returned it. The servers are rude and slow. This place has potential, but without a new staff and reprice of drinks, it's a no go. read more

I've been here 4 times and I definitely want to come back for more. Chips and salsas are both excellent, though it's a little unusual to pay for chips at a Mexican restaurant. I do wish the spiciest salsa came in a larger portion serving, though. Drinks are great. House made cocktails are wonderful, and their margaritas are STRONG. I'm a vegetarian, so I appreciated that there were 3 entree options for me to choose from. I would like to see more added in the future, though. I recently moved back to Richmond after living in Chicago for six years. Before moving back my friends were telling me what a foodie city Richmond is turning into. He got pissed that we asked them to turn the music down a bit (It was brunch, so not like it needed a Friday night party vibe). Ugh. I really want to like you. Your tacos are delicious. Margs on point, especially frozen ones. Atmosphere and decor are great. However, service is really lacking. The bartender who served us didn't smile once and she was visibly agitated the whole time to the point that it started to rub off on us and really put a damper on our positive mood. I get that people have a bad day, but it really sucks when we pay for service and leave disappointed (and *still* tip over 20% because we both have been bartenders for 5+ years so we get it). Additionally, we were ready to order for several minutes and made eye contact with her to signal that we were ready, and she instead continued other tasks that, based on my bartending experience, should've been lower priority. I really hate to sound like such a dick, and I'm sorry that I do, but there's really no way to put this nicely. I'm writing this not because I'm angry and need an outlet; rather I think it's necessary for positive change. I don't understand what the hype is all about .. maybe I went on a really bad day? So we got sat super fast.. which is a plus.. but then it took over 15 mins. For anyone to come say hi or get a drink order. It wasn't that busy when we first got there so I was a little confused why we kept getting ignored. Finally someone came over, we got the frozen margs and the chips and guac. This came out pretty fast, so I pushed the whole being ignored to the side. The margarita was by the best thing I had from there. That was a damn good frozen marg. The salsa and guac was ahhh okay. Not the best, but not the worst. I got the carne asada tacos. Fiancé got the pork burrito, smothered. So im all for tacos on a corn tortilla because im a Mexican feen and that's how it is in mexico. But the flavor just want there. Instead of taking a cruise in flavor town I ended up dull central with tumbleweeds on the breeze. That burrito though.. hell yes. So good. So much flavor. I don't know what happened to the tacos because the burrito was delicious.
