We had dinner at Encina, and the food was absolutely mind blowingly phenomenal! We dine at different restaurants throughout DFW every week, so we definitely have had our fair share of experiences throughout the metroplex. The biggest disappointment of this place was the service. We spent almost $300 on food and drinks as a party of two, and were not treated that way. We wanted a side of fries, and while not explicitly on the menu as a side, it was offered as a side for many of the entrees so we figured it would be no big deal. We basically were told the kitchen was "too busy" to make a side of fries, but if we ordered a burger, we could then get fries. It was a little silly considering they obviously can make them if we ordered more food. We'd 100% come back here based on the food alone, but the service experience could largely improve and I could see them being a much more popular dinner spot in Dallas. We'd still go back, but hope this feedback is taken constructively instead of negatively. read more

My girlfriends and I came for brunch yesterday. I had the infamous blue corn pancakes and migas. To say the food was delicious would be an understatement. First the migas were so well seasoned and I'm shocked I enjoyed it without meat. It was a super large portion but luckily my friend and I were sharing our meal. The pancakes weren't overly sweet and were so yummy. Valarie was an amazing server which made the experience even better. I recommend adding this place to your brunch list! read more

Beautiful little spot tucked away in Oak Cliff. This little jewel used to be known as Bolsa- one of my fave eateries. Now, Encina. Great setup, great feel. Very sweet hostess. We decided to venture out here because they had a patio. It in enclosed, and not a lot of air flow, which I was a little bit disappointed in because you know- germs, but that was my mistake not to call or look into it. I arrived early- had to order my dirty martini- no stuffed olives here but still..hit the spot after a long week. Our table was closer to the window and most tables were spaced out. Very good, very good! Food was fresh and seasoned very well. We started with the corn bread- a blue hue and extra savory but sweet with the butter and ricotta spread on top- beautiful and delicious. The salad we shared was incredibly fresh and point, goat cheese, beets, crunch and hearty! I ordered the pork chop, large portion, delicious accompaniments- crisp exterior, moist interior. Boom! Amazing. Great night overall. I haven't ventured out much through all of this- this was nice. Still a little fearful- I will say that I was a bit uncomfortable when my water was refilled throughout the night, as they did not have their masks on properly over their nose. My husband and I recently came here for brunch and I hate we hadn't checked this place out sooner. Encino is a quaint yet welcoming spot for brunch, lunch, and dinner. The parking is a little tricky due to the small size of the parking lot, but we lucked up and snagged a spot right in front upon arrival. Even though we did not have a reservation, we were quickly seated and our waiter quickly greeted us with waters while we looked over the menu. My husband and I decided to get the mimosa carafe with the seasonal juices to accompany it (pomegranate and spiced apple). Even though I'm a huge pomegranate fan, the spiced apple was a pleasant surprise and my favorite of the two. It wasnt overly sweet and had the perfect amount of spice and apple. I also ordered an espresso martini and it's honestly one of the best I've had here in Dallas. We started with the Mexican shrimp cocktail with nice sized chunks of fresh shrimp and pickled vegetables. For our entrées, I ordered the spiced honey glazed pork belly which was perfectly crisp on the outside, and extremely tender on the inside. It paired very well with the cheddar grits and the sunny side up eggs. My husband ordered the blue corn pancake meal, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that these are the best pancakes I've had in quite a while. Encino allows customers to purchase the pancake mix but unfortunately it was sold out by the time we left. I definitely plan on going back to purchase it though. Of the four entrees we ordered, the veal cheeks was the only dish that was really delicious. The scallops themselves were great but it was served on an unpleasant base of black eyed peas with cornbread crumbs. This dish is not worth the $48 price tag . The short rib bolognese was watery and did not adhere to the pasta and the beet and burrata salad had very little buratta. Avoid the goat cheese cheesecake. read more

This rating is for the food and nothing else. Food is true farm to table. You can tell the ingredients are great quality and the chefs care. Food alone gets five stars. We had the pork chop which was so tender and flavorful as well as the braised shorts ribs. Short ribs are on the heavy side so if you need something that will stick to your ribs on a cold and rainy day, it'll do the trick. Appetizers were the mushroom croquettes and the pork jowl. Encina is one of the few restaurants in Bishop that consistently serves great food. Quality is never sacrificed here! The chef updates the menu frequently. So if you come often, you never get tired. The cocktail program is also very good. The cocktail menu changes with the seasons and the mixologist are able to fix drinks for the most discerning palate. My menu favorites are the tomatoe salad, I get this one a lot! I really liked it when they use cherry tomatoes and you feel so good afterwards. It's like a liquid IV of vitamins rushing through your body, it's a veggie high, that feels so good. Let's not forget the Crispy Chicken Thighs, That yummy Sausage Pizza and the Berkshire Pork Chop!! Probably one of my favorite restaurants in the city - they have a very cool menu with lots of flavors. Their brunch is top notch and super unique: I got the glazed pork belly and grits AND the blue corn pancakes. I recommend both. My friend got the duck dish and she loved it. There are certain elements on the plate that aren't the best (the grits on their own are subpar and the hash browns on the duck plate are nothing special) but the complete bite is worth it. For dinner I've gotten the chicken thighs and elote inspire corn - the corn was phenomenal but the chicken thigh was nothing special. I've also tried the brisket fritters and they were just okay but not bad. Encina is definitely worth a try for brunch and dinner. read more

The blue corn pancakes were delicious and sweet without adding syrup and the bacon was well cooked too. I added a side of egg bc the dish felt incomplete without a little something extra. The pork belly dish was nicely cooked. We tried the verde Bloody Mary's and the flavor was nice but the consistency was a little thick. Those usually aren't my go to so I switched to a mimosa after (well priced at $5-$7 each and carafe options are available). Service was solid, not extremely memorable one way or the other. I was in town for the weekend and came here for dinner. Worth the visit! Food/drinks: Excellent! Given dietary restrictions, my options were limited, but honestly, I couldn't have ordered a better dish. Blackened fish was expertly cooked and deliciously flavored (gave my Seattle seafood a run for its money). My cocktail (the Lenora?) was refreshing and not medicinal, despite the green chartreuse; I had to order 2! The short rib and flatbread others ordered were large portions and plates were licked clean. Service: Great! We weren't rushed to order and were constantly checked on. When we told our server we had a time crunch, he made sure to stick to it. Ambiance: It's alright. We sat in the covered patio. It felt more relaxed than the price point. I wish they checked vaccination status or wore masks, but maybe that doesn't happen in Dallas? Our table location by the door was perfect. The food was good. The service was good. My son had the duck confit which was excellent. It's a duck leg that is very moist and tender and served with blue corn pancakes, scrambled eggs and hasbrowns. My husband ordered the chorizo migas. I had the pork belly with cheddar grits and 2 sunny side eggs cooked to perfection on top. There were also 4 shrimp wrapped in bacon. It was really good and very rich. We all had plenty for the take home boxes. The place is very loud and it's hard to even hear conversation at your own table. Parking now in that area is almost impossible. They have a small area we were lucky enough to get a space. The food is expensive and the drinks even more so but that's a given if u want to go for fine dining in Dallas. We were visiting our daughter who recently moved to the neighborhood so we weren't familiar with the later dinner hour. I absolutely love this place. My favorite brunch spot in Dallas, incredible menu and unbelievably tasteful food. A weekly recurring customer who has brought many friends to try out their breakfast. I've had several poor experiences consecutively with the same server. Valerie was very rude twice now. She doesn't check on our table for additional orders, nor does she refill our waters or coffee. Very noticeable and frustrating. I've seen several friends and other tables order hashbrowns as a standalone side(not because they ordered the Montreal long haul or burger). Valerie "forgot" to put our order in, resulting in a 45 minute additional wait. We then spoke to the manager Andrea, however she completely sided with Valerie and was standoffish to our table. We even noticed the table next to us was frustrated with their service, which ironically was from Valerie. I just want consistency amongst orders for sides such as hashbrowns since it seems like it only acceptable by certain servers... not placing our order is unacceptable as this was clearly Valerie lashing out against our requests.
