Found on Yelp so my husband and I tried it out for brunch this morning. We started with a croissant (chocolate & plain) both were flaky & yummy (no butter or jam needed)! Parking - they have their own lot so super easy compared to the rest of Bishop Arts Reservations - love a place that takes a reservation Sevice - so great waitress was the absolute sweetest and so on it. Thank you Jamie!!! Food- PHENOMENAL and big plus they were able to accommodate modifications. Serving size was great for price point. We got the pork chop and the blackened bass. Not a big fan of corn so asked for the bass over the same accompaniments as the pork chop (yummy cheesy grits and collards) and it was to dye for. Finally got a reason to come back to bishop arts. Everything that we order was great! I'm glad the waiter recommended the Cured Pork Joel for our appetizer. Must try! First entree ordered was the Scallops which came with broccoli puree. Simply amazing. Second we ordered the Berkshire Pork Chop. It was cooked well, the side it came with mixed perfectly together. We came for brunch and I was truly blown away by my dish. I ordered the Brisket Hash. Brussel sprouts, sweet potato chunks, cut up asparagus, carrots, kale, crumbled cornbread, and sunny side up eggs. Also some picked onion!! They nailed it. I devoured that dish. The chunks of brisket were cooked perfectly too. The vibe at the restaurant was pretty good. People were watching the world cup at the bar and everyone was having a good time. Encina is in frequent rotation for our Friday dinner and weekend brunch spots. We usually get a bunch of small plates and a bottle of wine for dinner, their wine selection is nice. I highly recommend the Kurobuta Pork Jowl, Brisket & Smoked Gouda Croquettes, and A Bar N Beef Cheek Pastrami. The flavors are so deep and special. When the dishes arrive you might think, "that's it?" but don't let the proportions fool you. They are incredibly rich and satisfying, almost nostalgic For brunch out the gate I usually go for an Aperol Spritz but they have plenty of great cocktails. The staff behind the bar are exceptional and they have access to all the right ingredients. I'm not big on sweets but the Blue Corn Pancakes are incredible. I loved this cute brunch spot! A couple of my friends and I had brunch here and we were so excited to find out that we could bring our dogs! The patio is dog friendly and covered which was perfect for a winter day. The parking lot in front of the restaurant is tiny, but we were able to find street parking just down the street. We ordered mimosas and they had some special seasonal flavors including pomegranate. The pomegranate mimosa wasn't too impressive, but my spiced apple mimosa was delicious! We came to Encina on a whim for my best friend's birthday and we were so glad we picked this restaurant! The food was delicious, so many unique and wonderful options. We ordered basically one of each item on the menu and tried everything together. I have to say, the duck confit was my favorite! I grew up a pancakes over waffles kinda gal, so you know I am a sucker for a good specialty pancake (I do appreciate a good waffle now too, though). Well, let me tell you about Encina's blue corn pancakes... they were absolutely mind-blowing. THE perfect marriage of sweet and savory. Because they're made of blue corn, it's not overly sweet, and the savory flavor inherent in the corn perfectly balances the cajeta/butterscotch, butter, and syrup on top. I can't speak to the bacon that comes alongside them, but it seemed to be enjoyed by the others in our group! Everything else was tasty as well, but I had to open with the pancakes because those were the true standout dish and the one I'll be coming back for again before I leave Dallas. They are able to customize certain menu items to honor dietary preferences, too, which I always appreciate in a restaurant. The mimosas my friend got looked pretty amazing as well, and they have some delicious seasonal fruit flavors. Parking is a breeze with the dedicated lot, and while it is a bit pricey, they don't skimp on the portions so it feels appropriate! A New American spot in South Dallas, I would describe Encina's concept as rustic Southern food with maybe a mildly Mediterranean twist and a concentration on local ingredients. There's a small parking lot out front, but plenty of street parking nearby The industrial chic venue is cool and intimate, with an open kitchen, wavy tin roof, and central bar. Speaking of the bar, the cocktail program is really unique and innovative. The Mokonuts - a blend of mezcal, falernum (a spicy almond syrup), coconut, and lime - was excellent: floral, and smoky, with just a touch of sweetness. On the appetizer front, we started with the Shishitos. Simply dressed with salt and lime juice, but they were crunchy and tart and fruity with a satisfying crunch. One of the knock-out plates of the evening was the Crispy Beef Tongue. The meat itself was juicy and dense and served aside a rich, creamy sauce and olive oil-soaked tomatoes and potatoes. Rustic and intense in flavor. The Mezze Platter was a nice refreshing showcase of sweet and sour flavors. Pairing subtle sweetness from grapes and goat cheese, salty cheese, and some herbaceous arugula on a crispy thin crust, the curiously named "Twig Flatbread" was pretty good as well. My main dish, the Roasted Duck Leg, was good but not great. It had crispy and crackly skin and a moist confited center, plus sweet red cabbage and a savory sauce, but nothing necessarily made it stand out from similar versions out of less sophisticated kitchens. I like that Encina lets the quality of the seasonal ingredients do the talking and doesn't try to showboat too much. The restaurant feels very sure of itself, which is a positive quality. I encourage you to utilize Open Table to have reservations for your weekend experience. My entrée selection was the Egg sandwich which was amazing and a fresh side salad made it perfect. It was okay! I can't really say anything terrible about them. The location was popular and their look seemed to be on trend. It was not some amazing ambiance, albeit we did have to eat at the bar, since our friends had to cancel our other plans. They do not offer much for those with food allergies, as I can't eat gluten or dairy, and don't eat a ton of meat. I was able to eat the blackened redfish with black eyed peas, without corn bread, etc. The fish and peas were prepared properly, but with zero flavor. They claim chiles, but I couldn't tell any. My bf said his pork chop was very bland, as well. He said it was nothing he couldn't have made himself. The potatoes tasted similar to the pre-made ones at Whole Foods. The service was decent, the place was decent. But, there is nothing to take it above 3 stars. There is a lot of competition, but no wow factor. read more

Great restaurant. We've been here twice and everything has been delicious. The atmosphere is casual. For brunch here, I recently had the pork belly and my husband had the turkey hash. Both were good, but you really can't go wrong here. The pork belly is not that spicy if you're worried about that. I love a runny yolk but if you don't you should probably mention when you order because both our orders came with runny eggs. We saw other dishes being brought out and all looked great. Encina was a miss for me - style over substance. Can't recommend it. I asked for the shrimp cocktail. They were out. Ok, it happens. I asked for the flatbread with egg whites. No can do. It's pre-made. I asked for biscuits with no gravy. Also no can do. They're pre-made. (Seriously? Every biscuit has gravy already on it?) I asked for a single pancake. Nope. Can't do it. I asked for a couple more things that couldn't happen either and ultimately settled on a plain croissant. No jam. They usually have some at the bar (for a very specific drink). Unfortunately, they were out. Lots of pre-made food and an inability to pivot or modify items sounds like there's no real chef in the kitchen. *shrug* on the bright side, my friend's migas looked wonderful. read more

After being so sad that Bolsa closed, I was super excited to try brunch at Encina. I arrived ready to EAT EVERYTHING! Our server Austin was really nice, helpful and enthusiastic. All the staff are nice, cheerful and act like they're happy to be there. Shout out to the snazzy dressed hostess, too. Loved the whole vibe of all the staff. We started with a mimosa and Strawberry Aperol Spritz. Both were fresh and light! And pretty, too! Between the 2 of us, we got enough food for 4! We just couldn't decide! And I have zero regrets. The blue corn pancakes with butterscotch and cajeta... did not even need syrup. Hearty, thick, the right amount of gooey sweetness... man! So good! My friend and I have been overdue for a girls night so we thought we'd check out Encina. We've both been to Bolsa which was the previous restaurant at the location. We were so deep into our conversation, just catching up, sipping on our drinks that our waitress stopped by about 5 times to see if we were ready to order! We ordered the black eyed pea fritters (on accident), smoked salmon rillettes, and devils on horseback to share. We meant to order the hummus and fried bread which was on happy hour but what was brought to our table was the black eyed pea fritters. I'm sorry I didn't take a photo but the fritters were basically falafel, sliced fried pita and hummus. The devils on horseback were amazing! You have that sweet and savory combo with the dates, blue cheese, and bacon. I mean you can put bacon on anything and it'd be awesome. I wasn't sure what to expect when we orders the smoked salmon but it looked different than I imagined but I'm totally fine with that because it was amazing as well. I enjoyed the smokey flavor of the salmon. The last thing that we ordered was the twig flatbread. I'm not a fan of arugula in my salads but I don't know why I love it on my pizza. This flatbread had goat cheese, grapes, and arugula. Another sweet and savory combo! The grapes seemed to have been marinated for a while, I could taste the herbs. Hyped to try this place but a total letdown. Service was attentive. Food was ok but expensive. Blackened redfish ($35) was under-seasoned and the Twig flatbread ($16) was sparse and uninspired. My main issue was seating. Why on earth would you seat a couple, dressed nicely and obviously on a date, next to a loud, drunk party of ten on the patio? This was not the atmosphere of a place that can charge $55 for a NY strip. We also wanted to come back for brunch sometime but I don't see that happening. read more

The ambiance was absolutely the best thing about my two visits to the restaurant. Let me start by saying that I've given this place two chances. The first was about five weeks ago with my wife on a Friday after work for appetizers. We were seated immediately, and greeted quickly by the server which was a good start. Once we let it be known that we wouldn't be indulging in alcoholic beverages, we noticed a huge change in the server's attitude towards us. We ordered the Shishito pepper appetizer and the Mezze platter which both were better than anticipated, with impressive presentation. We felt completely dismissed once our appetizers were delivered. Nonetheless, we tried again last Saturday for a Birthday brunch. Same server, and I was hoping that the first experience was a one off. We felt very dismissed once again when nobody at the table ordered alcohol. Everyone else at my table got migas, but I got the brunch burger which was spot on! The migas portions were HUGE, and the flavors were pretty good based on my few bites. We really, really wanted to like this place for the overall ambiance, and hopefully this is a learning opportunity. The sober community is growing, especially in our own Oak Cliff neighborhoods. Just because we don't drink doesn't mean we wouldn't have loved a tasty beverage sans booze OR even more food off their menu. Encina delivered for us. We had a reservation and they seated us promptly. Our server was great, she didn't ever leave us hanging and she wasn't in our face either. The food was excellent.
