They have many famous burger type including the one with crawfish tail. I did not go for their strongholds. I got their entree item with Sriracha Salmon. This dish well presented. They have good pieces of salmon steak with skin. The salmon is seared. Top with bacon and onion rings. The bed is broccoli slaw with Thai chili sauce. It is very good. The presentation of the food is top the chart. The service is excellent and attentive. The price for the food is reasonable. The atmosphere is bar type. Because this is one of the best burger spots in Tampa Bay. --- --- --- I can't believe how long it had been since my last visit to Engine No. 9 and also can't believe that my original review was penned more than 5 years ago. I've been here several times since that original review was written and have tried multiple burgers - they always tend to range from good to great. When I recently stopped in, I ordered a medium rare Demi God and it was one of the better burgers I've had in Tampa Bay. I don't think I'd ever tried it before, but it always caught my eye on the menu because I love anything with horse radish. It did not disappoint. Virtually the entire menu is just a bunch of different burger options, so if you like meat betwixt buns, it's impossible to not find something you'll enjoy here. Engine No. 9 is a decent burger joint that easily comes off like a regular local bar where you can grab a beer, have the obvious (a burger), and watch whatever baseball, football, basketball game is on any of the TVs. While the inside decor could easily fit with any other community/sports bar, the burgers are tops. Nestled on MLK between Baum Ave North and First Ave North (specifically, on the corner of MLK and First Ave North), Engine No. 9 has a hip black-painted exterior that makes you think it's going to have an ultra-stylish interior. And then you walk inside and it looks more like a typical Tampa/FSU sports bar without being overly obnoxious about it. While street parking is available, it is metered. Most people I was with either walked or Ubered to the area, so that was the main method of transportation. But if you're coming from outside of the area, you may need to look for parking a couple of blocks away depending on what's happening. The bar/restaurant vibes were good, and there were plenty of places around the U-shaped bar where my friends and I could grab some stools and order some food. Their menu consists of bar grub, salads, hot dogs, and, of course... wait for it... burgers. I decided to go for the Van Helsing burger that was quite tasty and supreme -- roasted garlic, roasted jalapenos, bacon, and some kind of cheese (I forget at this precise moment because I'm still oogling in my mind about the roasted garlic and bacon). The burger was magical. Very magical. I applaud Engine No. 9 for their burger making. The service was solid and smooth. The vibes were not pretentious. I've been coming here every Friday for the past 6-7 weeks as I'm working really close, so far I've had a different burger each time. Let me tell you, this is the best burger I've had in my short stay in Florida. The menu has something for everyone. I'm so tempted to get something other than a burger cause all the food looks so good, but the burgers are hard to beat. The service is out of this world, fast and efficient, they make you feel welcome and make sure you're satisfied! I've sat at the bar and at tables, either one is a great experience. I recommend this place to everyone I know who's going to St Pete for any reason. We ordered our burgers medium, they came out well done. We didn't have time to send them back so we ate them. I ordered the Blackhawk. Its basically a burger with chicken on it. The chicken covered half the burger. It was more like a Tyson chicken strip than a panko breaded patty that's advertised. I took it off and ate it by itself. Nothing about the burger was worth $15. The other burger was the XXX, with white cheddar instead of yellow. It came with yellow. Again, we ate it since we had somewhere to be. It's #FridayNightFoodie time again, and though restaurants are open again in our area, we're still playing it safe and ordering in. This month we went with our favorite burger joint in the Bay area, Engine No.9! Admittedly, this decision came from a desire to support a local favorite who we know might be struggling to find a way to operate at 25% capacity for dine-in customers AND learning that they're offering delivery now! And before anyone asks, apparently the ordering/delivery service they're using, ChowNow, is built right into their website -- when you order through the website, 100% of what you pay goes to the restaurant! We've tried to be better about ordering directly from local businesses rather than utilizing the corporate delivery services charging third-party fees, so we were very happy to learn that wasn't going to be the case tonight! If you've never had Engine No.9, just be aware of a few things: 1. The burgers are why you go. Yes, they have amazing gumbo and jambalaya (their head chef is New Orleans-inspired and trained), but the creativity with ingredients, the quality of the beef, and the presentation all make their burgers supreme. 2. Don't feel bad if you can't finish your burger. They're generously sized, and when served with their perfectly fried tater tots, you'll fill up FAST. Just plan on getting two meals out of it! We actually did something tonight we normally don't do at No.9 and ordered an appetizer. Honestly, this was just to pad the order and give a little more to them -- we didn't need the extra food! BUT if you just want that extra something to start off your meal, you can't go wrong with their fried dill pickle spears. Fried golden brown, served with house made ranch, they are delish - just don't eat too many of them! Remember what I said about the burgers! Our burger selections tonight were a little conservative - Mel went with the Goat Head, which features roasted red peppers, sour pickles, and tons of goat cheese on top of a burger patty cooked to medium rare perfection. I went with a new one for me- the Wine-O! Red wine BBQ sauce, aged white cheddar, bacon, and onion rings! As you can see from the pictures, presentation doesn't suffer that much due to transit. Everything still looked great and tasted as delicious as ever. Look, right now places like No.9, who are limited on dining room space and thus will struggle while having to operate at limited capacity, need our support now more than ever. However, I got the wine-o BBQ sauce on the side-- BEST decision. As other reviews stated, I agree: this sauce is so good. I got a side of sweet potato fries. An extensive list of burgers and beer in a quaint downtown St. Petersburg setting was a perfect lunch getaway today. The dining room is 70% bar and 30% Family area with tables in the rear where I sat with four. Everything was clean including my restroom visit. My order the Wine-O / red wine bbq sauce, bacon aged white cheddar & fried onions. Side of tasty tots. Fabulous! Paired w/ an Orange Blossom Pilsner by Orange Blossom Brewing. The rest of the party got other burgers. All agreed quality beef and downright tasty. All the cooking temperatures were correct as well. Table service was friendly and attentive. My bill was accurate and quickly processed. The staff in general from my observation did a fantastic job serving their respective customers. My son and I had a second visit prior to leaving town which was a take-out order. The staff was asked to recommend one for me and Windy City it was. There was discussion on the peppers, but ultimately I decided it was ok as per staff the heat was not much. I cannot recall my sons order. Within 20 minutes our to go order was done! Bill processed ahead of time to expedite. Our hotel was 5 minutes away and the plan was to enjoy in the lobby with friends. Unfortunately the burger was way too spicy for me and was a disappointment. My son liked his however it was undercooked from a medium to medium-rare. He still ate and devoured it. Shout out to a good friend that was spot on the recommendation. Cool spot we checked out when we landed in Tampa late night. It's about 15-20 min from tampa airport. Seemed like they're known for their burgers, which they were decent and sizes were good! Engine 9 is one of the few places in St. Pete that has been able to hold integrity and location as the city continues to grow and gentrify. It is a small place but the quality of their food and service is through the roof. I came in for lunch the other day and ordered the "Black Flag" burger (Cajun spices, Blackened & topped with Pepperjack Cheese, Jalapeño Bacon, Fire Roasted Red Peppers and Franks Red Hot Sauce). At first glance one would think that perhaps this burger would be too spicy and have more burn than flavor, but you would be wrong. All the ingredients blended together so well to create this sensational burger that totally satisfied my Hanger! With the delicious tater tots, it was almost too much and I took half home with me. Although I did not have a beer this trip, they have an excellent selection of craft beers which they project on the wall (see pic). Although Engine 9 offers other food besides burgers, they are mostly a burger joint. If you have a craving for a QUALITY (their meat is definitely superior) burger, this is the place to hit up. I don't eat a lot of burgers but when I do this is one of the places I go. This place has a fun vibe. They have a variety of burgers some of which can be quite messy and / or spicy. They have a decent beer selection and many of the tables have a TV on the wall that you can control yourself. Some of them are showing their age but it was fun to mess around with while we waited for our food. Last time, it took a bit longer than expected to get our food, but it wasn't bad. read more
