My wife and I were pleasantly surprised with our dining experience at Engrained. When you walk into a nearly empty restaurant that worrisome feeling starts to creep up on you. I think we simply hit a lull in service which played out to our benefit; our waitress who was also the bartender was great! She was super helpful, friendly and handled everything accordingly! My wife loved her meal and my double burger (with gluten free bun) was outstanding. Most gluten free buns are average at best but Engrained has a top shelf bun and my burger was cooked to my version of perfection! We aren't beer drinkers but I am sure their line of taps would double down the experience for beer connoisseurs. All in all a cool place in a bit of a tucked away part of Springfield; unless you are staying at the hotel or heading over to Scheel's (as of right now) there is no real reason to be in this neck of the woods. read more

Engrained Brewing is one of my favorite places to eat in Springfield. I love how they incorporate so many local items in both the food and the beer. The menu changes seasonally so there is always something new to try. The service was outstanding. I didn't try any of the beers during this most recent visit, but in previous visits they have all been really good! A terrific dinner with fabulous food and a server that was exceptional. Hubby said his St. Louis style ribs were wonderful. I asked our server to just "bring me something of her choosing" and she delivered a harvest salad with gilled chicken that was absolutely perfect - filled with blue cheese crumbles, craisins, apple, pecans, and grilled chicken that was hot, most and very flavorful. 100% ! Second time coming here. This time was as good as last time. The onion rings were awesome and the filet was good a pretty good cut of meat. Pretzel sticks are amazing. I really like Engrained. They source much of their vegetables from their own farm and work with area farm-markets as their providers for protein. That appeals to me. They are also on the local Springfield "Bourbon Trail" and have diverse choices in whiskey styles. Of course, as their name implies, they also brew beer. I'm tired of the ongoing trend of IPA's and fruit-beer so their Red Ale is my go-to-choice unless they've brewed their Kölsch (a great Summer beer). Their menu changes time to time. Their flatbreads are enjoyable as are their sandwiches. Their default style for their french fries is to fry them until they brown, so if you prefer the lighter style you have to request them that way. In these cold Winter days I wish they would resurrect their Jambalaya! read more

Very good brewpub and restaurant. Stayed in the hotel next door for a business trip and ate here two nights. The pulled pork is good, cheese curds are amazing, and pepperoni flatbread is solid. For the beers I tried the Red Ale, Oatmeal Stout, and Brazilian Bombshell--all were very solid. All reasonable pricing and if they bottle the beer you like you can get a 6pack to go for about $13. Wow. This place was truly amazing in every sense. We all tried their beers and all were really good. I also tried their guest cider and it was also tasty. We thought that was good the way it was but then the food came out and it got even better. We each got a horseshoes/ponyshoe and every part of it would've tasted delicious on its own. The fries were a great size, flavored well, and just crunchy and enough. The cheese sauce was white with plenty of flavor! The burger and Texas toast were also both good. We are from st louis and came to visit family, Zak was are server and did an awesome job! I got the comfort bowl and the pulled pork on it got could immediately taste the smoke. We stopped here after a long road trip and were so pleased we did! From the craft beer to the dessert, everything was delicious. Engrained is a farm to table restaurant and we could taste the freshness. We recommend the salmon and classic burger--both were simple and tasty. The onion rings starter was also delicious. We hit Engrained for an early Father's Day with the family and had great service. The staff was very accommodating and kind with our son, who has autism and is non-verbal. The cheese curds were amazing, my wife's Ruben was delicious, and I loved the Shandberry! I hate to be negative, but my fried Nashville hot chicken sandwich was very little dry. It definitely could have been dressed out better. Maybe that's on me for not knowing how to order it. Also . . . Uhhh . . . There was a long hair in my fries...and then it was in my mouth. These things happen, and I'm not squeamish, but I know others are. Still, we've already got our meals picked out for our next visit and are looking forward to it. read more

We stayed in Springfield overnight and went here for dinner based on the reviews. It was a good microbrewery and pub. A little on the loud side but that's to be expected in a pub atmosphere. I had a ponyshoe burger sandwich which I had never heard of before! It was pretty good but a little heavy on the cheese sauce for my taste. My husband got the margherita flatbread which he said was pretty good. My tween son got the classic burger and my youngest son got the kids cheeseburger slider. As far as beers, my husband got the Heifeweisen and liked it. I got the lemon shandy which wasn't quite lemony enough for me and then they ran out so I switched to the peach seltzer which was nice. Overall I would recommend especially if you're visiting the area and have never tried a ponyshoe/horseshoe! read more

Great place. I was pleasantly greeted and immediately seated. I loved the atmosphere and the very laid back staff. The background noise level was low making it easy to have a conversation. The service was prompt. Mercedes was pleasant and did I mention laid back. She was also very attentive to filling drink glasses and checking in for further needs. The food was great. I had the Honey Soy Stir Fry. It was a great balance of flavors. The sticky rice was hearty. The vegetables were fresh. The honey soy sauce was just the right balance to bind it all together. I had mine with Chicken. Overall, this was a great dinner. I would come here frequently if I lived nearby. One oddity is the seashell parking arrangement that has you driving all the way around the building before getting into the parking lot. Curious - but apparently results in better food! read more

I think the reviews for this had my hopes of fairly high before I went and maybe it was an off day for the restaurant which caused my disappointment. The waiter was great and super attentive, couldn't ask for a better one! The beer was okay, but honestly I also think that's so subjective to the person, the food was, basic bar food. And I think that's probably why I left so unimpressed, from the reviews I read I really really thought I was going to have this amazing meal and experience but it was all pretty meh. If you're over in the scheels area it's fine to stop in but I honestly wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again unfortunately, it's pretty expensive for the experience you get. read more

Tried their 8th Anniversary bourbon stout and the Oatmeal Stout. 8th Anniversary tooooo much bourbon. Overpowering bourbon flavor. Almost like drinking bourbon with a beer chaser. Better to combine the Oatmeal and 8th Anniversary into one. Smoother. But not as good as a Dragons Milk. read more
