Hard to believe! So i just went there for lunch because honestly i qanted to support my local latino business and i was in the area. Im writing this as i sit in round table where ive had a great experience. I came in and after seating the lady that walked in before me with a smile,the waitress saw me, didnt acknowledge and qalked away. I thought well maybe she was spaced out or something. So then i waited by the counter, and she asked me with a curt tone and a serious face, if it was for here or to go and well you never know maybe someone died so i brushed it off and smiled that it was for here. I walked myself to my table and she brought me a menu. I had wanted a supreme wet burrito with steak and al pastor and was going to add avocado. I asked her and she told me that the al pastor wasnt made so i couldnt order it cause it would take time..... swear i was like ok sooooo your food isnt made when the customer orders it? Or its not fresh and she said that it qould take time and id have to wait she then changed her story and claimed thw food would always be fresh but steak taked 2 minutes to make and al pastor takes 6 minutes..... at this point i was entertained just a tad bit, i told her thats not that much time, i can wait 4 extra minutes! She then looks as me and said i kid you not.. that it wouldnt be worth it for them to make me thw alpastor... that i had to make a diffrent choice! Ok. I will not be eating here again. The serving is rather small, and when I asked for more salsa for my fajitas, I was told I would have to pay $2, I said "wow, that's crazy", in which my server said to me, " what's crazy is the $7000 rent we have to pay". Finally the tennis courts are opening and after teaching my student cousin he wanted some Mexican food and we decided to try this local place in town. It is under new ownership and we ordered a fish taco and prawn burrito. Both were inhaled in 10 mins... the prawns were plenty all the way down to the last bite. Dined in at 5pm on a Friday and it was completely empty, should have been my first sign. For starters the chips were stale, salsa was good. The eating utensils were not very clean and were all beat up. We ordered the carnitas and they were more like chicharrones. The rice was mushy. We also ordered the shrimp cocktail and it was so salty that I couldn't eat it. The ceviche was good but the tostada it came in was stale. We ordered flour tortillas and they never made it out. My husband and I ordered a couple things for delivery. The delivery itself was easy and without complications, although the food itself is a whole different story. To be concise, part of the order was a *cheese* enchilada plate (included rice and refried beans). The cheese on top of the enchiladas was not warm or melted, and upon further inspection, the cheese inside the enchilada was also cold. Just shredded cheese straight from the refrigerator. Irritating as it was, I heated it up like I got the "Mexican" food version of Papa Murphy's. When finally sitting down to eat, it became apparent that the rice was so under cooked that it was crunchy. For transparency, I've frequented this establishment many times over the years (despite the poor reviews). I really hate to say it, but those reviews and ratings are spot on. I randomly pop in this restaurant since it's local to me.. a couple of months ago not the best experience but today the granddaughter of the original owner has taken over, food was delicious, the steak fries were great! The food was basic Mexican, nothing too memorable. I had the combination plate with chili relleno and chicken enchilada verde. The relleno was quite tasty with lots of gooey cheese but the enchilada was meh. Mi madre (don't know why I just felt the urge to use my limited Spanish skills) and I took advantage of the 2 for 1 coupon that they send to the local residents. That is a plus if you live in the area. I have had better, but the staff was friendly and the service was speedy. Completely OVERPRICED! Thai restaurant was closed next door so we decided to give this place a try instead... how can you go wrong with Mexican food right? I got there at 8:30 AM, Which is the time if they open. They were a few minutes late opening but, hey, no big deal. I went in and placed my order. They seemed very accommodating as I wanted a few items deleted from my order.... I went back to my car to wait for my order and decided to check them out on yelp. The most recent reviews were horrible, but I figured maybe somebody had an ax to grind....... Boy was I wrong!!!! This is the most bland tasting burrito I've ever eaten in my life. Not a hint of any Mexican/Latin spices anywhere. Never mind the fact that it took them a long time to prepare the overpriced burrito and two fish tacos. We were seated and after waiting what seemed like a long time since we were the only ones there, a basket of STALE TORTILLA CHIPS was brought to us. There were no more than 10-12 chips in this small basket. Mentioned to the waiter that the chips were stale, he replied "I will go heat them up for you", about 5 minutes later he returned with the same basket of chips, YES, now we had Stale Warm Tortilla Chips !!! We were two couples together, ordered two orders of fajitas, as we were there for a lite lunch before heading to a party. The service was SLOW. The fajitas were of poor quality, chicken was not tender, there was mostly onions and large pieces of tomatoes, barely any bell peppers, overall very bland taste. The sides of guacamole and sour cream was minimal, however the rice was a bigger serving, but tasteless. Each order was served with 3 tortillas. We asked for two more tortillas, so that we each had two tortillas, as they were very small. I had to get up and go to the kitchen area after about 5 minutes to ask about the 2 extra tortillas, finally they were brought to our table. Needless to say, not a good experience here. As I looked at my bill, I was charged $1.00 for the extra tortillas...REALLY....we eat at Mexican Restaurants frequently, NEVER been charged for a couple of extra tortillas. Charged .50 for using a credit card, always receive an ample basket of fresh tortilla chips and salsa, but NOT HERE. The salsa dish that was served to four of us was equal to about 1/4 cup of salsa, SERIOUSLY, and no refills. I have never taken the time to write a review of a restaurant before, but I felt that this restaurant needs to be exposed to unsuspecting customers. It says Ensenada but it should just say nada. I was excited to eat here because typically I come across Michoacán style cuisine and a change would have been delicious, this place was not. DON'T EVEN BOTHER!!! Just experienced the worst service ever. From the second we walked in and were seated, my family and I were abandoned with the exception of the extremely small portion of chips and salsa that was brought to us. So after waiting 15 minutes for someone to come to our talbe we had to ask for water, menu's, utensil's, our drinks, napkins, which we are a family of 4 and the girl brought us 3. Come on man...Not to mention that there was only 1 other table at the time and they managed to get our order wrong. The food was overpriced and the quality was terrible. Unless your into dry rice and beans. Tried to ask for compensation for the lousy service and food, but we were told that they couldn't do that. I really wanted to like this place as it is close to home and really convenient. I went there for the second time today and unfortunately it will be my last. First, there is a lot of negativity going on with the building. The salt and pepper shakers were covered in crud, there are signs that say "no checks," "we have the right to refuse service," and extra fee charges posted on the walls. Second, the food is okay at best. Both my husband and my chili rellenos were dripping in oil so much that we could not eat them. When I told the girl, she smiled and handed us the bill for the entire dollar amount - and let's not forget about the extra charge to use my ATM card. I was giving restaurant a try because I heard there were new owners. We ordered two taco salads and had them delivered. We requested because of dietary restrictions to not have rice and beans on one of the salads. They both came with the rice and beans and not a whole lot else. We called and were told that the cook said she had only put a little bit of rice and beans on(we asked for no rice and beans). Then I was on hold(phone on counter)for her to take another order. While in Benicia we drove by and saw this cute little place inside a shopping center. We decided to give it a try but were greatly disappointed. We weren't greeted with a smile and had to ask for a menu. It was like we were bothering the lady at the cash register. My boyfriend ordered taquitos and I ordered a shredded beef burrito. The taquitos weren't edible. Soggy and tasted like a bad egg roll. They were cut in half and looked a lot like little egg rolls . Horrible. My super burrito was awful as well . The meat had a weird barbecue flavor/vinegar flavor and I couldn't eat it . We don't live in town or we would have brought it back . Very disappointed and Covid regulations weren't being followed. Two people dining in and the place didn't looked sanitized. Just a heads up for anyone thinking they might want to try it. Wish we had read reviews before we went in. I LOVE THIS PLACE! My dad and I have been coming here for years. The food is amazingly spot on EVERY SINGLE TIME. Super authentic and perfectly seasoned. Our favorite is the two ground beef enchilada verde. For one, the verde sauce they make is something to speak about. Never tangy or sour but savory and complimenting. The ground beef is something special, I mean we argue about what secret ingredient they've concocted in the back. I think it's nutmeg lol but I'm probably wrong. Their beans are fresh and definitely never canned. You can tell they take pride in their food. Hospitality is always on point. I can't tell you enough. If your looking for the BEST MEXICAN FOOD in the vallejo/Benicia, hell I'd come here from anywhere...COME HERE. They will not disappoint! FYI a little pricey but TOTALLY worth it. read more

First, I would like to say that I've been coming here for about 30 years. My favorites have been the shrimp burritos or shrimp fajitas. Last night I spent $35 not including a tip for for two burritos. One shredded beef, one shrimp. This also included a pint of salsa. Both burritos were a big disappointment. The first several bites of the beef burrito was all rice. Once my boyfriend got to the beef, it was very bland. So was the rice. My shrimp was on the tough and chewy side. I also felt the rice and sauce on top was lacking in flavor. The chips, stale. I decided to personally speak to the owner/manager in person instead of writing a review. As soon as I let him know I wanted to express my concerns about my meal, I could tell this was not going to be a productive conversation. Honestly, the look on his face while I was telling him about my meal was a look of no concern whatsoever. He was defensive and arrogant, informing me that sales have tripled since he has been the new owner. I looked around and said "really?" It was 4:00 pm on a Saturday, and not one customer there. Not to mention a holiday weekend. The negative reviews were because "they just didn't like the restaurant." He also said that if someone doesn't like the food, they won't eat it. He has had complaints, but still seen people eat the food. Trying to explain to him that people are paying for this food and are hungry will still eat if it's edible, but not enjoyable. He just didn't understand. My complaint was trying to make him aware that his recipes needed some work. I like that they are there, Ive always liked going there. My feedback meant zero to him. He thinks he's a great chef. Sorry, but NO! I also tried to explain to him that with his attitude, he will fail. It would have been nice to see him show some concerns of my feedback, thank me for letting him know my opinion, or even apologize for my unhappy experience. He did none of this. He didn't seem to care or agree. Soon, he will be the only one eating his own food if he doesn't make some changes. I've been eating here almost my whole life, and if you like good, authentic Mexican food you should eat here. The restaurant is family-owned, and after a few visits, you'll always be treated like family. In addition to their fixed menu with all the traditional Mexican favorites, they often have carnitas, chili verde, posole, menudo, fresh fish tacos, and other excellent items you won't find on an everyday basis at other restaurants. Since Ensenada is a coastal city, you'll find plenty of seafood and shrimp dishes as well. read more
