I been doing business with them for several months renting vehicles to drive for Uber and it has gotten horribly worse. I reserved a compact car like I had previously. I went to pick up the vehicle and they informed me they didn't have a car for me. I was paying $260 base previously but now the only option for me was a Tesla which would cost approx. $350/weekly plus the time and cost to charge make it impossible to cover the cost and make money. Anyway, my other choice given was a 2019 Ford Flex with 108k miles at $310 per week. The agent told me that it would be almost as economical as my previous vehicle, a 2021 Toyota Corolla which I was getting an average of 34MPG. It turned out that the vehicle was averaging 21MPG based on the dashboard mpg display. Also, the agent said they do not clean cars before they are rented. This vehicle was dirty inside, but the outside was filthy including the windshield and didn't have cleaning solution in the dispenser. I finally had enough and decided to return the vehicle today. I have spent numerous hours since yesterday calling Uber and Hertz to honor the reservation. I want to work! Uber agents have said it was a Hertz problem and Hertz agents have told me it's Ubers problem. Anyway, total frustration and anger. To make it worst, the manager from Hertz at the Coors location told me that I couldn't rent a car from Hertz/ Uber program anymore because I expressed my frustration. Why was I not contacted if they couldn't honor the reservation.? They told me that I should have called to see if they had cars available. Totally ridiculous and unprofessional. I've become a Platinum with Uber in about 4 months. I pride providing good customer service, which can be confirmed by my customer reviews. Anyway, I remember when Hertz were number one because they had an excellent product. Their cars were new, super clean and their staff was very professional. I immediately told them I'd prefer to fill the tank myself, as I was being told the charge only after already arriving. But they refused to allow it. They claimed the car had already been "checked in" and wouldn't give me the keys back, even though I had just walked inside. To make matters worse, the tank was almost half full when I returned it (it's a RAV4 with a 14.5 gallon tank), but they charged me $107 to top it off. That math doesn't even come close to adding up, and it felt completely predatory. It felt like a total scam. There was zero transparency, no customer service, and absolutely no flexibility. I got overcharged for gas in a way that felt dishonest and predatory. I will never rent from Payless again--and I recommend others don't either. There are plenty of rental companies that won't treat you like this.
