When I was a student at Chabot, I spent most of my days here with my partner in crime "studying". When I moved away to SoCal, I didn't realize how much I would miss it. Upon my return, I had a Green Energy smoothie. I didn't see Yoshi behind the counter and began to panic a bit. My smoothie took longer than usual, but I was content just being there. I would have grabbed a bite to eat, but my favorite Omega-3 Tuna Greenoodle Salad was nowhere to be seen. I guess I could have had a Turkey Pesto on foccacia, which is also very tasty. I really like this place. The took a symbol of white patriarchy in the Elks Lodge and transformed it onto a community gathering place. A community gathering place with snacks! The coffee: tasty. A lot of attention to detail. Fresh. Overall Yummyness. The staff: super friendly. The owners help out too which is nice! They are always suggesting and trying to help you figure out what you want. Pretty sure I saw one of them on BART, too. The ambiance: lots of places to study, nice outdoor space. The music: REALLY bad. all the time. But in an awesome Barry White, Air Supply, Celine Dion kind of way. They also have live music and if you are lucky like me, can hear the same band murder the Pixies, Radiohead, and Dashboard Confessionals and break about 3 strings. The food: mostly made on the premises. Try the miso soup its delicious. I read someones, I think Sherly A's comment on the owner being Japanese with a question mark, and that confused me. Who gives a fuck. Especially if it means I have access to good sushi when I get coffee. The WIFI: slightly unreliable. I would take one star off for music but the coffee makes up for it. read more

I have been coming here for years. I like star bucks, but I have to show my support to the mom and pops shops. I always go here. Great service, People smile. Enjoy working their. Love the tid bit of information on the walls. This place was were i met my love of my life for our first date. The owners are great, they work behind the counter all the time. Pros: Great coffee, friendly staff, and delicious ramen!! Although it's a small cafe, there's a variety of tables to choose to sit at. There are solo bar seats and larger group tables as well as, options for sitting inside or outside. There's also plenty of parking! Large open windows inside also make it a nice place to study. The ramen is only available on Sat and Sun from 1130am-130pm and it's definitely worth stopping by to try! I stop by at least every couple weeks to have a bowl. Cons: They have a really gross bathroom. While a nice bathrooms is definitely +points, I'm not usually very picky about bathrooms because they're public restrooms so they're already gross to begin with. However, I can almost compare their bathroom to a park public restroom that smells like it's never aired out, is wet in strange places, and is very dimly lit... SO the only real con of this place is the restroom. That's the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. If you come here and avoid the restroom, you'll have a wonderful experience! :] read more

I love finding a gem in the middle of nowhere, and this place definitely qualifies. I've been here for a couple of hours now, and in that short time I've napped on a comfy leather couch, surfed the Internet (free wifi), done some power reading, watched some belly dancing in the parking lot (odd, yes, but very cool), and chilled out while listening to a memory-triggering mix of 80's easy listening (replete with Air Supply, REO Speedwagon and Chicago), and had a very tasty bagel sandwich and a strong (four shots of espresso in a 20oz Americano?! I guess I'm not going to be sleeping any time soon...) coffee. I don't pass by Hayward too often, but it's nice to know where to stop to spend some quality time with myself the next time I do. read more

this place used to be an elks lodge, now it's an cafe/eatery. the house blended coffee , 80% organic, (1.95/.20 oz) isn't the greatest but definitely better than peet's or starbucks hands down. they also offer expressos, smoothies wraps, paninis, teas, pastries, and sushi. yes, sushi mondays thru sat. mr. yoshi nozawa (co-owner) has opened a very informal, friendly, cozy wifi sitdown cafe. pros: -chiopotle chicken on thick sliced italian (panini/6.99) was pretty tasty but not very spicy. -coffee ok -artistic environment, cofy. cons: -prices may seem pricey. I loved this cafe. I will admit that I was already taking off one star in my mind as I waited what seemed like forever for my drink. But when I took a sip from my huge ceramic cup of mocha, I put the star back on. It was delicious, one of the best I've had. The food smelled great too although I didn't eat there. The service was very friendly; it is a nice feeling when you leave a place and they yell "thank you" even though you stayed for 2 hours and only had one mocha for $3. Good for studying: Yes. I would definitely go back here to study. I went on a Saturday and there were still lots of people reading or on laptops and, despite a lot of people there, it was quiet. I can definitely see why people like this place. I'm always looking for places to study and this place would be a staple if only I were on the right side of the Bay. Yay for: available seating on a Sat afternoon, outlets available if you can get a seat near a wall, a good number of good-sized tables, free Wi-Fi, ample space in the parking lot, lots of natural sunlight from outside. Seemed like a lot of students go there for group study sessions so its not quiet, but if you like a little background noise, check out Eon. The first time I went into the coffee house was in 2007. I was turned off by this place because it was so darn small and crowded. It was a nice summer-like day in May. But the air conditioner was barely on. I was going to write a review back then, but I just forgot. I didn't go back until the second week of school this semester, (Spring 2009). I usually go to Starbucks or the new Peet's on Ast. But I was running late and needed coffee. Eon Cafe came to mind. So I stopped there. I ordered a cafe bianco, extra hot nonfat no whip. it was great! tasted like real coffee. There chai tea is great too. They sell these green cookies they call mulberry cookies. I am addicted! The staff is really friendly. When I come in, it's usually in and out. I would come here to study, it's just I think it's a hit and miss to find a place to sit. I would of gave this place 5 stars if... the cafe had more seats and tables and if they were open late night at least till 11pm or 12. read more

It is pretty spacious but they could use a little bit of air conditioning! I had the iced toffee love latte? I dont remember it was love something and the "love" just means that the latte has a thicker cream and is less sweeter than the original latte. I liked it a lot although I forgot that me and milk dont mix well so my stomach wasnt very happy after drinking it. Cute space. Not digging the music they play here very much though. read more

The ramen here is really good! I got the spicy miso ramen with mild spiciness and the broth was perfect - not too spicy, oily or salty, but it was definitely hearty. The noodles they use are different. I think they use their exclusive Greenoodles but the texture is very much in line with the typical ramen noodle. The price is very reasonable and they even included a whole soft boiled egg in the soup. My total for the ramen noodle was $9.77 after tax. I am definitely a fan and will be returning soon to get more ramen and try their coffee or shakes. :) read more

This place is awesome even though for some reason I pass it up twice when I was looking nice for it. I come here and get their cappuccino and it's tasty. Their omega-3 cookie was ok. I think it was a couple of days old, but they do give you a little side cookie with your coffee which I really like. It's a nice place to sit, relax, do some reading or talk to friends over coffee. Yes, it's expensive as heck, but to get a decent espresso drink it is worth it sometimes. Love coming here on the weekends for ramen!!! Hubby and I live within walking distance and we always bring our doggie to enjoy their healthy ramen... The patio is nice with umbrellas to block out the sun rays just enough... Hubby loves the coffee they serve and even took him up on his suggestion of brewing dark roast every now and again... Surprisingly delicious... In a desperate attempt to finish college in 3 years I took a summer class over at chabot and happened upon this coffee shop. The service was friendly, the coffee was great, and the best part... free wireless. It soon became a ritual stop for me before class and a haven to study. For a cozy neighborhood cafe, this is just about as good as it gets. Wanted a coffee pick me up and decided to stop by Eon Coffee. It's a quaint little shop that has quite the cold coffee set up. I got the black forrest mocha as it sounded interesting. It wasn't all that great, i couldn't really taste the cherry, it was just like a mocha. My husband got the famous dutch ice brew. It was a very strong brewed coffee. Not bad if you want a jolt of energy. It wasn't mind blowingly good, but I'll stop by if it's on the way. read more

I rounding my 3.5 stars to 4 because this is cafe closes at 10P on weekdays. This is perfect cafe for students to come to study and work in student groups. Their food is mediocre ( I tried their tuna melt, the bread was a bit burnt and the pickles were soggy) but their selection of drinks is great. I tried their speciality tea drinks. I had the ice Jasmine Green tea-- very authentic and refreshing. There are outside seating for folks who would like some Vitamin D and indoor for kids like me who are there to study. There is only 1 unisex bathroom, which can be a little inconvenient since a lot of folks come here to study, chat, relax. I wouldn't prefer this cafe as a place to study because there isn't much natural lighting and it gets little stuffy if you were sit in booths by the bathroom. The sun shines/sets directly through the windows in a way that burns my head. (for the booth seating). Also it does get a little rowdy, study groups come here so there might be loud chatter. However, the staff are extremely sweet. They brought my food to me, and adjusted my tea preferences. Great hours and great drinks! read more

This place is a solid 3 stars. The interior has a light color scheme and the chairs are moderately comfortable. The drinks and pastries are OK. I had a Crème De Caramel drink which I was told is close in taste to a caramel macchiato. I would have to disagree. The drink had a strong vanilla/butterscotch taste to it and was mediocre at best. I've been here more times than I can count and am always saddened by the fact that their pastries are almost always close to being out. The options are always extremely limited. Finally decided to come to this place after passing it NUMEROUS times. I was in need of a new study spot... and this ALMOST fit the bill. Cons: 1. Coffee was okay... and overpriced for being just okay - but b/c it's an independent spot I'm willing to pay and keep trying different things til I find one that fits. 2. The food selection was NOT to my liking. I'll bring my own snacks next time. 3. There was loud banging in the back room for most of the time I was there... not very pleasant. Pros: 1. Plenty of seats.... I did see it start to get busy in the later evening time. So I'm glad I was there relatively early (3pm) to score a prime spot. 2. PLENTY of electrical outlets... yes, that is a MUST for students with laptops and will probably be a deciding factor in study locations. 3. Free Wi-fi.. hey. we're in a recession, right?! 4. Friendly staff... I was a newbie and the Batista was VERY patient with me while I was making my order. The Product: Mulberry Tea using their special "Pi Water," which is used in all of their drinks and is supposed to be healthier than regular ol' tap water (the science behind this is on their website under the "Health" tab). I come here just for the Mulberry Tea - I don't know where else you can get this. They serve it both hot and cold. I'm not sure how to describe the taste. I guess it's like an earthy/fruity green tea? Describing it may be futile - definitely go try it out if you're big on trying different teas. The Venue: For a study cafe there isn't a whole lot of seating here, though I have not had a problem finding a space for myself. Indoors, there is enough room to comfortably sit maybe 14-18 people, though there is plenty of outdoor patio seating available. For the space they do have, they certainly do make the most of it, but a cafe situated across the street from the community college should definitely try to accommodate for more. Overall: Friendly service, great Mulberry Tea, and an obvious effort to do the best they can with what they have makes for a good cafe. read more

I like this place, and it's close to where I live, so double bonus. I've had the latte frap and the mocha one, and have been happy w/it. Very flavorful. I think a ton of kids from neighboring Chabot College come here to study, since every seat is usually occupied with someone on headphones with a laptop. Outdoor seating also available. Parking is tight, and for some reason you can't make a left into the place, you must U-Turn on Hesperian to get inside. Definitely making return visits. read more

This place the start and on going meeting spot for the start up my partner I have been building up. It definitely has a lot of sentimental value in my life. It has a very relaxing atmosphere and lots of sun light that enters the building if you choose to. What I like the most are the green noodle salad that they have pre-packaged in the cooler on the left. It's a very unique type of noodle that I believe they manufacture them as well. The coffee is decent, but if you're looking for something more crafty and "pour over" type of coffee, this place is not really where you'd want to come to. If you want to come to handle business, study or just meet a friend, it satisfies just that. So-so for dates. read more

Surprisingly, a cute place to study with free wi-fi and friendly service. You have to get there early to get a table. If you come with a laptop, be prepared to fight for an outlet. Other than that, it's such an inviting place. I love the fact that they have brochures informing what types of ingredients they put in their food and drinks. I've lived in Hayward all my life and I've never seen a place quiet like this...to say the least, I'm impressed! The sesame bagel lightly toasted with sun-dried tomato spread is so good, I wish I could buy it to take home (if they don't do it already!). The Masala Chai is my favorite tea. I remember when they first open, they went around local businesses carrying around a thermos of coffee for people to sample. Now to me, that's customer service! So I'm giving it three stars... Why? Well, when it opened about ~5 years ago, it certainly *was* the best place to study, have coffee, and grab a bite to eat. However, sad to say, I have witnessed the declivity of the quality in the overall decorum of this place. Example: five years ago, they used to offer smoked salmon (lox) with a lemon cream cheese but then about two years ago, they downgraded to only offering lox and cream cheese spread, and now they only offer lox-flavored cream cheese. They used to offer real crab sandwiches on rosemary ciabatta and a dill aioli, but I have yet to understand why they took that off the menu. Whatever they do still serve is just a tad over-priced. *shrugs* Their coffee is still pretty bomb and off course the free wifi is a sheer necessity but since college is over, I no longer have a real compelling reason to go there; a Peet's, or Tully's will do just as well. read more

4 stars - mostly for atmosphere, I only had one drink and it was good, not great but good (it was a "health drink" - take that how you want it). This place definitely stands out in the area. I like the set up, and atmosphere they are trying to create inside the coffee house. I tried one drink, The Mulberry Iced Tea - apparently its healthy for me... well that is what the little booklet says at the counter. They have premade sandwiches and cakes available as well as hot/cold beverages, juices, and smoothies. The place is small so it has one unisex bathroom (that's pretty clean) and the staff is really friendly. The good thing about this place are the prices (granted I didn't order much, but they seemed VERY reasonable). You can sit at a table by the window or on the couches (They looked really comfy). Lastly, they have outdoor seating available, but what are you going to look at really??! Valiant attempt guys. Anywayz, I went here for a first date/first acquaintance, still unsure of what to call it, but it definitely is a good spot to order a beverage, sit, and get to know someone. There aren't too many outside stimulants and the other patrons are either buried deep inside a book or have their eyes glued to their laptop - so don't concern yourself with feeling awkward. there was a flat screen TV in the joint and it was tuned into Larry King Live ( it was a late meeting). I've been coming here for a sold year now several times a month and I've never been disappointed. The coffees are exquisite. I've been ordering their ice coffee, which they call a dutch ice coffee, and even though its in ice you can still taste its come from quality grounds. The black iced tea has some sort of herbal/mint/lavender-like finish that gives it a nice floral refreshing quality. The service is fine. They smile, take orders, and make good coffee. The internet is free and unlimited. There are also outlets near several tables. I've only been in here once and not seen a table to study at. The drawbacks are; 1. Its not the best area so every so often there are some questionable patrons making questionable business. 2. Its not quite fivebucks but its close meaning its not the cheapest coffee in town. read more

I love this place. I've been coming here from time to time, and I received great service every experience I had with this cafe. It's located near Chabot College, so it's a great place for Chabot students to lounge at, quickly pick up some food or a drink, or study at. I've never eaten any food from Eon Coffee, but I'm sure the quality and taste of it would be up to par with the delicious drinks! It is more than a coffee shop. Eon's menu also offers natural, fruit smoothies with additional nutrition boosts, so if you don't feel like having coffee and would rather have yourself a fruity drink, there you go! One of my favorites here has got to be the iced chai tea latte, as it's not too sweet and also not too plain. The staff is friendly and cheerful, and that's what I love most about this place. I love supporting mom-and-pop businesses, especially when their employees provide great service and a happy, positive attitude.
