    The ride up the gondola.
    Terri E.

Epic Discovery has a big list of adventures to discover in gorgeous Vail. We were in town for a conference and the scenic gondola ride was a sponsored event for all guests. The nice part of the gondola ride is you can use it all day. The view once you get to the top is breathtaking. Lots of photo opportunity. On this particular day, we couldn't decide on which activity we wanted to try out. Ziplining and the rope course were high on the list. Unfortunately, the $35 Golden Eagle zipline option was not available due to renovations. The only other zipline option was the $199 Game Creek Zipline Tour which would take 3.5 hours. Big difference in cost and time. We asked about doing the rope course and were told you could not purchase this a la carte but rather it was inclusive in the "package" deals. We didn't understand how they could offer majority of the adventures a la carte but this was not an option unless you bought the big package. So both answers killed our excitement to try the adventures we really wanted to do. Since we were limited, we actually considered the $199 zipline package. The salesperson let us know that we could apply our $36 gondola ride ticket towards the purchase of the $199 zipline package. So that was a bit helpful in a discount. This option could also be applied towards the other unlimited package options. This sounded more enticing. So we decided to go for it and do the $199 ziplining. It's not every day you're in beautiful Vail ziplining over the scenic everything. Come to find out, since we had the group gondola ticket, they could not apply that discount. Really?!? After that whole pitch, we decided to just jump ship and pay the $199 full price for ziplining. Guess what? Our salesperson literally just sold the very last ticket for the day, literally 10 minutes prior. So frustrating!!! They were not winning our business on this day or even really trying to accommodate. So we just threw in the towel and didn't do anything. Such a bummer! And a turnoff too. The reason they got 4 stars is their activity options were very cool. We get that things happen or might not go the way we want but damn, it really sucked that we ended up doing none of the activities. Other than the gondola ride which was offered through the conference. We really didn't fell like dishing out money for activities that were just "eh" to us or not as appealing. Anyway, here is some more in depth information and prices for all the activities they offer. FUN at 10,350 feet... and up! We just returned from an awesome family vacation in and around Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. In Vail, CO, family friends met up with us, and we had a great time together over several days. The other family has visited Colorado before and is familiar with skiing and with taking the gondolas up during warmer months, too. So they recommended that we do just that - take the tram to the top and walk / hike around Vail Mountain, which we now know is in the White River National Forest. Work travel had me flying over the Rockies many times, during all seasons. So I knew before this trip that some mountains had snow during most of the year. I just hadn't remembered seeing mountains with snow by time late July and August rolled around... not in the lower 48. But we learned a week earlier, in Wyoming that some of their mountains are snow-capped year round. While most of the snow had melted, there were a few patches that were lingering just long enough for us to enjoy them... and it was almost July. That was neat! After we got away from the village at the top of the tram, we hiked along a couple trails... beautiful scenery through the trees. We took a trail for a mile and a half or so and then had lunch at 10,100 feet. We took another trail back, and that was a bit harder, as it was uphill and climbed above 10,700 feet in elevation. Both trails were really pretty, through open fields and through trees. We even saw a few deer along the way. As we got back to where we started, the kids all rode the Forest Flyer toboggan / roller coaster. They all had a blast! After we got to the bottom, we relaxed, and snacked at a cafe. With our lift tickets allowing rides through the day, our daughter and I rode the gondola up and back down, again a couple times, just for fun. We had the gondola to ourselves, so we each had our own bench and laid down, looking up through the partial-glass ceiling at the clouds and the sky - peaceful! That was really relaxing. Back at the cafe, our son and I had a lot of fun playing frisbee in some grass that was right there. That was fun! We definitely had a great time, at the base, and especially at the top of the Vail tram - we recommend a visit, to experience the beauty of Vail!

Very cool place only issue couldn't figure out where the ticket office was since the sign above said Gondola not Epic Discovery.

$375 for family of five to ride 3 rides. Because of weather things got shut down too. The coaster is fun though.

It's definitely a large operation. Check in for us involved a 100 people or so. But they've got it down. Don't plan to bring much/anything with you honestly. You can choose wet suits, dry jackets etc... It was 75 degrees in July here so our family split between wet suits and dry jackets. The latter was the better choice. You take a 30 minute school bus ride and some quick safety instructions (thanks Erico!) And then get assigned to your boat. Ours included 8 of us and a guide. Honestly that was too much but okay. Our guide was Tristan who was fantastic. Funny and engaging with fun facts along the way. But more importantly you could tell he was taking safety seriously. We did the browns canyon ride and it was a good mix of slightly challenging for the kids and fun for the adults. All in all it was a great way to spend half a day!

The your started with a ride up the mountain in an old army truck (my least favorite part is the tour). From there we took 6 zip lines back down to the bottom of the mountain. The views are stunning, the guides do a great job of keeping things moving, and making sure everyone enjoys the trip. There must be a book or class or something that sets up guides with all the bad jokes you hear during a tour -- we heard more than a few twice between rafting and the zip line, and honestly as bad as the jokes are that was one of my favorite parts of any type of tour like this. One other thing we appreciated - the tour company photographer is along for the first couple of lines. Of course, they do this so you buy a package of photos at the end of the tour, but I have to say the pictures we got were top notch - she got a few scenery pics, and several of the three of us in our group. They weren't just pictures of us hanging on a wire above the ground - some are from the platforms before we took off and she especially got some nice ones of our 11 year old. After being couped up for a year and a half during the pandemic, we wanted a trip that helped make some great memories and the pics we got were well worth what they cost.

This year, I went early season on Clear Creek and loved it so much I came back late season for Gore Canyon- an adrenaline-packed, fun adventure! The day started with a swim test to make sure everyone was prepared before tackling Class V rapids. (Honestly, if you're not a strong swimmer, this trip isn't for you, they do test your swimming in the rapids and throughout the trip over half of the people across our 5 rafts ended up in the water at some point! Additionally this would be quite the dive into the deep end if you've never rafted before!) The trip was an incredible mix of thrills, skill, and crazy beautiful scenery you would not have guessed was there when you drive into Kremmling. Midway through, we stopped for snacks, and when we wrapped up, the crew served a delicious lunch and cold beers (NA options were there too!) such a nice touch after a big day! What sets Liquid Descent apart is the crew. Every guide I've had has been dedicated to making the trip special. I've talked to them and many of them have said they specifically choose to work here because of the company's extra training and the sense of community. I even met the owner yesterday at Gore Canyon, and you can tell the company's passion for customer experience comes directly from the top. Specifically the last 2 guides I've had, Jordan and Malia have been awesome! Yes, most rafting companies use the same put-in/take-out points and similar gear but the experience is what makes the difference. With Liquid Descent, the guides make sure it's the best it can be and their love for their job ensures you're going to have a great time. I've rafted with other companies in locations where liquid descent isnt and know: the right guide changes everything. I was so nervous walking in, but from the moment we arrived, every single staff member made us feel welcomed, safe, and supported. Our guide, Koa, was the perfect balance of fun, kind, and incredibly skilled. He guided us through the rapids with such confidence and ease while also making sure everyone felt safe and included. He checked in on us several times throughout and made sure we were having fun, asked us if we wanted to "spice it up" a bit or keep it mellow and just really let us know this was "our" trip and he's cater to what we wanted. I quickly found myself letting go of fear and enjoying the moment... something I didn't expect would happen. Koa's energy was contagious, and his calm, respectful nature made us feel like we were in the best hands possible. At one point on the river, another rafting company had a mishap and we had to pull over and wait for them to recover and get their riders back into the raft safely. Koa explained what had happened with total grace - no judgment, no gossip - just a calm and respectful explanation. He also spoke so kindly of his own coworkers and even the owner of Liquid Descent. You could tell he genuinely cares about the rafting community and takes pride in his work and LOVES his Liquid Descent family! Every employee we encountered was friendly, encouraging, and helpful - from getting us fitted with helmets and life jackets to cheering us on as we headed out. As someone who started out nervous, that kind of supportive vibe made a huge difference. They encouraged me, and they helped me push past my comfort zone in the best way possible. What a GREAT memory! We will remember this day not only for the thrill of the rapids, but for the kindness and heart of the people who guided us through it! If you are considering rafting in Colorado, go with Liquid Descent. I'm so glad we did!
