I've lived and worked in Austin for 6 years and I frequent the establishment 3-4 times a month. Aside from the occasional pretentious barista, I like the place a lot. But not after my last visit! I ordered an iced coffee, enjoyed the whole thing and at the very bottom was a pubic hair. I'm disgusted and enraged. The place is a bit dusty but it's usually packed so maybe that's why. Lots of board games and books for public use. Lots of seating, including outside on the back patio. Cool art on the walls. One thing that I thought was cool is that they have free women's sanitary products and wellness information in the restrooms in addition to lots of community services on their bulletin, like volunteering, local gardens, yoga, etc...They don't allow outside food and will kindly ask you to eat it outside. read more

Was looking for a good *strong* yummy cup of chai and totally found it here in this super cute funky lil place full of really nice vintage decor, groovy ambience (if you're down with a thrift store aesthetic and underground noise music- which we totally were (this coming from our middle- aged, old punks/metal heads perspective)). Friendly staff and great drinks! It was my first time here and everything was very COVID safe. I got an iced mocha latte with oat milk, and my friend got an iced matcha latte with oat milk. I went to this place before it was cool, just like pretty much everyone else. I also tried the coffee before it was cool, and burned my mouth. Definitely hipster, this enjoyable little coffee house is more about the house than the coffee. The coffee is still very good, but almost not their main focus. Don't forget to bring your laptop... One of my favorite coffee places of all time. It's open 24 hours. It's got plenty of seating, inside and outside, there are two different outdoor areas, both have lots of outlets for those with laptops. It's never loud in here, people are usually studying inside or reading. The baristas are really friendly and make excellent coffees. I also love that they have Italian soda and Topo Chico. The decorations are adorable. It feels like being inside of someones fancy loft. The only thing that sucks is that it's so busy most of the time that there is no parking. Epoch is my FAVORITE spot to hang out in Austin. It is an artsy, eclectic, WEIRD art gallery, coffee shop, wireless mecca. You can post up all day and get some work done, hang out with a friend, enjoy a date, read a good book, or just chill out on the lovely outdoor deck. The beverage selection is SUPERB. The hubby and I have claimed two well-broken in chairs as our own and are thrilled when they are both available, as it gets quite busy over at Epoch what with all of the students frequent this haunt. The people watching at Epoch is a hobby in its own right! It's a perfect microcosm for the city, attracting people of all ages and creeds. As I'm not a coffee person, I usually enjoy a Caramel Italian Cream Soda or a delicious Mexican Hot Chocolate with whipped cream while my husband sips on a double espresso. My favorite thing about Epoch is the Peewee Herman doll sitting high above all of us minions looking down upon us with benevolence. One really interesting fact about is that Epoch as a Geocache hidden on its premises! If you are new to geocaching, this is a cool one to start with. So the house coffee is great, and they are open 24/7 !!!! I go here all the time because the wifi beyond exceeds expectations. The music can be INTENSE at times- in case you were looking for a relaxing spot- but it can amp you up to get stuff accomplished. They serve pizza and vegan options, all good. Lots of tables and parking. I would have given them five stars if not for the staff, which are all hipsters and can be unfriendly if you get on their bad side. The barista with the dreads is super cool, when he took my credit card he threw it up in the air behind his back and caught it!! -didn't think it was possible. Another time when I asked for a mug for my friend to drink from, the ponytail barista man seem very annoyed and reluctant to let me have one... it was just one mug ??? The cortado was absolutely amazing. Smooth, great mouthfeel with the foam, and a full espresso flavor. I was actually not so pleased with the iced mojo. It tasted like creamer to me...I'm doubt it actually is creamer, but maybe it's some combination of almond milk and sugar-alternative...I don't know what it is, but it wasn't for me. They also had several brewing options, info on the roasts, and Aeropress kits for sale. It was pretty busy, the barristas were very nice, and overall it seemed like a good venue. read more

Yep, I've been here a few more times now and this place is the fucking bean bomb! It's all about the experience for me and Epoch is far and away the best coffee shop experience in Austin. Is there better coffee in Austin? Yeah, there is better coffee to be had elsewhere. But...is there a better place in Austin to just hang out in total comfort, sip some bean juice and surf away? The first time I walked into Epoch Coffee, I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere. I loved the sent of pure coffee and the woody, coffee shop look. There was a diverse amount of people there and my drink was done pretty quickly. It wasn't quite but wasn't too loud there...I was able to talk to my friends at a reasonable level. Pretty clutch 24 hour coffee/pizza place in north Austin, I got the olivia slice one night, and the moon walker slice the other, and a chocolate chip cookie, all were really good, im glad they had the moon walker which was white sauce as you don't see that all the time, I'd have loved to try the coffee but it was 2am each time and might not have been the best idea :p hopefully i can try it next time i'm back! read more

**UPDATE: Read other reviews and it is common for their cashiers to belittle you & coerce you into tipping** My review: First thing you'll notice - it's August 2021 and they're the only business in texas that MANDATES MASKS. Thats kinda annoying, but it's telling of other annoyances. Mask mandaters tend to be the smuggiest of the hipsters. They're more entitled than most. THEY CLICK THE SCREEN FOR TIP. Yup. Screw places that do that. Super awkward. I don't tip unless I'm being served. Had to say "no thank you" for tip. As soon as I declined tipping, the mood changed. The cashier changed his tone & made me feel like I don't belong there, which I probably don't because THEY SHUT DOWN HALF THE INDOOR SEATING. That's probably the worst part. It's texas. Hot as balls. 80% of the seating is outside. Idk about you, but my ability to draft emails declines exponentially when I'm uncomfortably hot. The coffee itself doesn't make up for all the yellow tape. Got the matcha and hot latte with oat milk. Nothing special. Try to avoid going here. They have favorable hours and not much competition walking distance, but TRY TO AVOID. read more

I feel disappointed at the fact I'm writing such a poor review for Epoch, however my recent experience here has caused me to never come back again. I come to this cafe very often, as it's one of the most popular coffee shops near the UT campus and being open 24 hours a day makes it a perfect study spot for a college student. Typically, when I come to Epoch I look for a table, settle down to study, and then order whenever I feel like I'm ready to. This is a normal routine for a lot of other customers, and I have been following that routine for the past two years I have lived in Austin. However, when I came in last night with my friend we found a table and started studying for about an hour. Then, a large, white, bearded man (I have never seen before) suddenly came up to our table and asked: "Are you guys going to order anything soon?" We didn't think much of this, and politely replied "Maybe in a little bit, we are not ready now." And the man replies "well how about ordering NOW? You have been here for a very long time, it's finals season, and this isn't some kind of public library." This completely took me and my friend off guard, as we were publicly humiliated in front of the entire cafe. Being the only Asians in the cafe, all the other tables were white, and we were the only ones being discriminated and forced to buy something on command. His tone was extremely condescending and discriminating- as other tables did not order anything either, who were studying and were left alone. According to other reviews, we are not alone in being treated so poorly by this same man. As students studying for exams, I find it ridiculous to be forced to buy something when we are not ready to- as we wanted to get things done before ordering too soon. In disbelief, we immediately left Epoch and have decided to take our business elsewhere from here on out. read more

I was out driving tonight, coming back from watching the sunset up at Mt. Bonnell, and decided to check out the North Loop scene (I don't get out much). Epoch Coffee's packed parking lot and vintage lighting caught my eye. I loved the atmosphere - the vintage hanging lamps are a great touch, as are the plants growing in soda/Topo Chico bottles. There was a good crowd, but the place wasn't too noisy (or too quiet), just a nice hum. There were plenty of tables, a bar with swivel chairs, and comfy sofas and chairs. The waitstaff were courteous and helpful. I ordered the Chai Tea Ice Blend 16oz (the small). It was delicious and the perfect drink for such a humid night. I would just like to second the advice to NOT use the bathroom on the left (HELL). The bathrooms are unisex with a toilet and a urinal, which sadly means they stink. I'll hold out for the bathroom on the right next time to see if it's any better! read more

This is the best coffee spot in Austin. It's got that hipster, Mac computer, indie music vibe that lets you know the coffee is gonna be on point even before you get to the register. I really enjoyed my mocha with double chocolate. My husband who is more of a French press kind of guy wished he would have gotten an extra shot of espresso in his but we really loved this place. I had visited for the first time yesterday and really thought it was a great place. I spent 4 hours studying and bought the horchata blendie and the apple pie. The horchata blendie was just ok with a strange after taste and the apple pie tasted as if it had been sitting for a while, but the atmosphere was a great place for studying and there was so many coffee options I was ready to come back the next day and try a new coffee and study for upcoming tests I had. I was not expecting to be racially profiled though. I knew I was going to have a long night and planned on buying something after I had got some studying done. A friend and I were studying for about an hour when an employee rudely asked us if we had bought anything. I told him not yet, and he said well we either needed to go buy something right that moment or leave. We were the only black people in the building at this moment and he did not say a word to any other person that was sitting. I was more than a little disgusted knowing that I was there hours before buying coffee, studying, and had planned on being a loyal customer, but not anymore. I don't know in what world it is acceptable to go up to students and just tell them they need to leave when we had plans of purchasing drinks. I am just trying to study for my tests and end up being publically humiliated. That was a terrible experience and I know I will never return. read more

I am from California but come to Austin on lengthy vacations at least twice a year. Out of all the places I have come to love in Austin over the past 5 years, Epoch tops the list! I am a caffeine ADDICT but Starbucks just doesn't excite me the way cozy shops like Epoch does. First of all, their drinks and snacks are delicious! I have not tried anything I didn't like... I'd recommend the Mexican mocha, blended mocha, Dutch hot chocolate, strawberry scone, and peanut butter chocolate cake! I'm embarrassed to admit that I always feel compelled to take pictures of my mochas for Instagram because they make very beautiful latte art! My only critiques are three small inconveniences that don't have anything to do with the actual coffee... 1. A few members of their staff are rude and don't do they standard "Hello, how are you, thank you" banter that is sort of necessary in a transaction. I was very off put once by how blunt and short one guy was with me. But other than that, I have had not just good but GREAT interactions with two very sweet male baristas who make me want to spend more money here!! 2. Because they are open 24 hours, if you go after 1:00 AM, it really fills up. There is lots of seating available both inside and outside but occasionally that generous seating space will be already taken. 3. No stamp cards or rewards system?!?! I feel like this would really be a good business decision for them. I know that I feel less guilt getting my second coffee and second scone in a single visit if I know my transactions are counting toward a freebie. Please get a rewards system! read more

I went to Epoch with a friend this past weekend and loved it. The coffee, atmosphere, and staff were all wonderful. They have ample indoor seating and 2 outdoor areas. Their menu is great too and word on the street is that their mocha beverages are . I went with my usual cafe au lait, and although it was lacking foam art , it was perfect. Will I be back to Epoch? If I lived up North I absolutely would be! Overall, I highly recommend Epoch Coffee for anything from a study session to a first date. read more

Meh. I like the ambiance - especially the stained glass retro windows - and don't mind that the furniture is mismatched and worn. I do mind that I had a mediocre iced chai - very little flavor - and, to echo other reviews, the service was borderline rude. The baristas have the attitudes of pissy teenagers. Did not appreciate. Also, a small grievance: we asked for drinks to go, and got them in glasses anyway. We weren't in a hurry and a table opened up, so I can overlook this, but still, dudes, it's not that hard to listen to a customer and give them the correct cup. There's a sign there that says "We filter coffee, not people." I appreciate the sentiment of inclusivity but it adds an air of pretension when combined with staff's attitude. There's also an old Starbucks sign that's been modified to say "fuck off"... edgy! If you're in the area, I guess... go? But go with low expectations. read more

Came here for the first time to meet up with some classmates last night. What a cute part of town! The drinks are really good for how cheap everything is. And they're little sandwich kolaches are sooo good. I hadn't eaten that entire day & it was exactly what I needed. There were a lot of people there studying, I felt bad for my group being so loud and chatty. If you're looking for a quiet place to do school work that ISN'T the library, this would be the place. There's also a few stores that are adjacent to Epochs that looked interesting. They were closed when I was there last night. I'd like to visit again soon. :) read more

Short review because we're on a time crunch but this is a really cool shop! As others have mentioned, parking was tricky. It's a big lot, but it's shared with a few businesses here. Coffee so far is really great. I just have a cortado for now, but I'll be getting another espresso drink before we hit the road. Our barista was super friendly, patient and knowledgable. The shop interior is fascinating! It looks old without *feeling* old, you know? And there's so much space that it seems like I'd feel comfortable no matter where I sit, and i love that. Plus tons of plugs and extension cords! Easily a great work space. Hopefully I'll get to come again! Glad we looked this place up~ read more
