I came in with pretty unclear instructions and reference photos and both the stylist and the owner were able to figure out what fit my needs. This seems to be a huge strength here. 2. They were able to fit me in last minute. What was bad 1. The total time listed online was 1.45 hours, the service ended up taking 2.45 hours. I have been to many salons and never had my hair take that long, especially when I was getting all over color and a blowout (no haircut). Perhaps this was due to me booking last minute. However, the website booking made it look wide open and I think it is the responsibility of the salon to accurately represent their booking capability. I would not have booked with them had I known what experience was to follow. 2. The salon overall seemed overbooked and people were bouncing around. Three different people worked on my hair. Personally, I really didn't like this set up. I like to build a relationship with my stylist and this hectic atmosphere was not synonymous with that 3. The blowout I had was so uncomfortable. The rollers were tangled up in my hair and I could feel it ripping out as the stylist took them out. I have never have a blowout be so painful. My hair had so many split ends after I looked in the mirror at home. 4. My hair fell the moment I stepped outside. Granted it was a windy day, but my hair doesn't typically fall that fast. I think this may have been due to the stylist rushing at the end. On one hand I'm glad she did because I had been sitting alone for quite some time, but on the other hand I paid for essentially nothing. My old stylist back home (moved cross country) had no problem giving me a blowout that lasted at least a few hours. Even on windy days. 5. At one point the owner took my stylist in the back and seemed to be scolding her. This is never something a new client wants to see. I immediately felt anxious that something had gone wrong with my hair color. It ended up great but tbh experience was awkward and handled strangely in my opinion. 6. Finally. The price came out to $260 for all over color and a blowout. I wouldn't mind this price if it wasn't for the lackluster experience. Hair salons are charging luxury prices without offering luxury experiences. The pricing structure is also strange. They charge $60 extra for toner but I have never had a color job that didn't need toner to look good. It feels strange to not include it all together. The toner charge was added after which was a surprise because toner has always been included in the price. To be clear, the website did ask if I wanted to add toner for $60. I thought that was for someone coming in looking just to tone and not add more color. Perhaps this was my mistake but I found the whole pricing structure strange. A few other things to note: water was offered but never given and they only accept cash/zelle/venmo tips. Overall this salon was not a fit for me. A lot of this is subjective preference but I think it's important that people understand what environment they are paying for when they sign up to spend hundreds. That being said, the color was beautiful and I am grateful for that.

I was made to feel that the problem was somehow related to my language barrier and cultural differences in communication. At one point, the conversation even became about money and what I had paid for -- essentially, "You didn't pay for the whole highlight, right?" -- which felt completely inappropriate and shaming. I have never experienced this level of disrespect or lack of accountability in a beauty salon. I left feeling sad, embarrassed, and unwelcome, when I had simply come in expecting professional service and to be heard as a client. I want to be clear that I don't believe this experience represents the values of the entire salon or its owners. My issue is specifically with this individual stylist and the way he handled a situation when the result did not meet my expectations. I am sharing this so other women, especially those who may have a language or cultural communication difference, know to make sure their concerns are genuinely listened to and treated respectfully. A client should never be made to feel guilty or ashamed for expressing disappointment with a service.

I have been going to Epoch for years and continued to be thrilled with the results. I have naturally curly brown hair that I keep straight and blond. Earlier this week, I got a Brazilian Blowout/Kertatin straightening and a partial highlight. (Decided to grow it a bit so not cut, but got an amazing stylish bob earlier this year.) Straightening - my hair is smooth and silky and straight, but will still hold a curl if I want it to. Even better - it was ready to go the minute I left the salon - no more waiting for days to be able to get it wet or put a pony tail holder in it. Color - I've primarily gone to Beth but seen several other stylists over the years too. I appreciate the feedback and advice to keep my hair both current and in-season. We recently switched from balyage back to foils with a root smudge. No nineties highlight line - good growth. I easily made it 12 weeks before wanting a touch up. I love my color. Also, the team at Epoch is working so hard to make sure safety protocols are in place - incredibly clean and safe atmosphere, wonderful communication. read more

I am so thrilled with how my hair turned out after recently seeing Annie. I initially went for just a haircut. I loved how she listened to my concerns and also gave me some practical tips on how to style my hair using different techniques that would help prevent it from more damage. I loved the cut so much that I decided to go back for a full balayage. My hair already had a poorly done balayage in it from a previous salon. It lacked blend and needed some serious toning. Annie was able to work with my hair as it was and transformed it in to a beautiful, more sombre look - perfect as fall is just around the corner. I'm so happy with my experience here today. It was extra snowy and I was in the mood for a change so I decided I wanted to get my haircut, bangs and all. They were able to fit me in within the hour and I explained how I was a poor college student and wanted to treat myself to a nice cut, and save money by box-dying. Saying 'box dye' in a hair salon is similar to saying 'Voldemort', aka he who should not be named. My stylist, Beth, was understanding of my situation and helped workout the best move for me. I left with a whole new look that gave me hope in salons again. After many failed attempts at getting my hair cut and colored from salons I researched myself, this experience restored my faith. Leslie Hoffman at Epoch Studio Salon provided bridal hair services for my mom, mother-in-law, and me for my wedding. While Epoch was a little difficult to coordinate with to confirm the booking, I couldn't have been happier with Leslie. She worked with me to give me exactly what I was looking for, which was a soft, side-swept look that looked soft and natural but held up all night despite the 95 degree heat. Annie has been my stylist for 5+ years, and I love what she does with my hair. My hair is very thick, and many of the stylists I've worked with over the years didn't know how to properly cut my hair to make it more manageable. The whole interaction left such a bad taste in my mouth that I didn't even want to reschedule afterward. It felt really misleading and just poor customer service. I was also told that Tara's specific cancellation policy would be added to the website, but it still hasn't been. Posting this so others are aware, because there's no reasonable way to know cancellation policies vary by stylist if that information isn't clearly disclosed upfront.

My only quibble, and this has nothing to do with Ashley, is that the salon was so busy I was pretty much left to my own devices before Ashley came in for the day. While I don't expect champagne and flowers (though, hey, wouldn't knock 'em!), it would have been nice to have been at least offered a glass of water!

With Elizabeth, I have always left so happy with what she's done and am grateful to have someone I can trust completely to do an amazing time every time. To top it off, she's the loveliest woman to be around while she works. Elizabeth hadn't seen my hair in person or in pictures and refused to work with me because they stated that it wouldn't be "a good fit" very confusing messages and was not even able to even get an in person consultation! To add, it took over a week for a response and after my last attempt to schedule a simple haircut/trim, I was declined for the reason of "not a good fit" I would like to talk to the owner/manager about this issue as I appald by this response. Also "color correction" was assumed and stated in the text response - stylist never saw my hair in person or viewed photos. How can that assumption be made ? Also, I (as many women are) willing to invest the time to try out different stylists /engage in consultations until the right fit is found- the statement of "wasting my time with a consultation" is absurd. In addition, and I quote from Elizabeth's first text " Yes, I ABSOLUTELY work with clients who have resistant gray, and I'd be happy to help you with your root touch-up. " How would then their comfort/expertise level with resistant gray CHANGE after a follow up text message? I question the reasons for why my request for a consult/trim was denied. I found this stylist and salon very unprofessional.

But I had a great experience with Jamie. It was a consultation and haircut as my hair is incredibly damaged from chemical straightening at a different salon and I needed to find someone who could help. She gave me good advice and a haircut that removed more of the damage and it still looks good. My hair is going to be difficult and I'm happy that I found Jamie because I'm feeling hopeful. Plus everyone is really nice which helped me feel better.
