On my most recent visit, my mom and I were killing time before a craft workshop and stumbled across Golden Leaf Cafe which is far off the main drag and located directly next to Culver's. As we had already eaten lunch and had coffee we didn't have any more room to try the food out. Pros: nice parking lot, small gift shop with home goods, friendly staff who were able to sell the products and give history into the shop along with confirm that more items will be going GF very soon, wide variety of cafe products such as espresso drinks, breakfast, sandwiches, soup and more. In addition:clean interior, cute seasonal decorating and beautiful windows exposing natural light inside. I am a Halloween fan and it was fun to see some of the fall items still on display mid- November including spooky drinks, mummy cake pops and more. As mentioned above, I got some PB protein balls which were excellent and a cake pop to which I have yet to try. I definitely want to return soon and try out the breakfast items.

My sandwich was my first time for a BLT that had two added ingredients: an over-easy fried egg and a slice of cheddar cheese. It was delicious. The best pulled pork sandwich in downtown Menomonie?! The sauce sounds like it would be weird because there is mustard in it but I can confirm that it is delicious and really makes the sandwich. Props to The Abbey for having a limited menu and having a few really good dishes instead of a bunch of average bar food. Apart from the atmosphere, food and staff there are really good drink specials at The Abbey as well! Every day there is a near unbearable special. When school is in session these deals are definitely taken advantage of by the Stout students. If I had to credit this place for just one thing it would be that the building itself is such a relaxing place. No flashing lights, no overly loud music and no amateur DJ screaming at the top of their lungs like other bars in Menomonie. The building is classic Wisconsin wood finished but with a modern feel to it. The interior space is clean and very inviting. The wood work is intricate. They have several dining areas, plus an upstairs space for private parties and a nice bar area to begin and end your visit. I loved all the food on both visits. On Friday they offer surf & turf. It includes a 6 ounce wagyu steak and three large grilled shrimp. The wagyu beef is sourced locally. It was all delicious. The cocktails and wine are at a higher level than other Super Clubs. The service was top notch. The owners, Jim and Kim are super friendly. Everything about Wilson Creek is exemplary. Try it some night for dinner!
