Came here based purely on reviews and I was not disappointed. I was looking for a burger and beer and that is exactly what I found. There is a grill at the end of the bar where you can get fresh, delicious burgers cooker up. Good draft selection. A local spot for sure but I didn't feel unwelcome as an out of towner. Only tip.. Fantastic old dive bar in the heart of very pretentious Manhattan Beach. This place has been around since the late 1920's, and it really is the last of the old small-town beach feel left in Manhattan Beach. The bartop is old and made of wood and beat down, just as it should be. There is a pool table in back, and some cozy booths along the wall. And it's true, the hamburgers are no joke -- just amazing! Many believe these to be the best burgers in all of SoCal, and I'm inclined to agree. And they are huge and sloppy. yum! My only complaint is that they don't always carry the pickled eggs, which complement those burgers just perfectly. It is a full bar, with some good beers on tap. They offer pitchers... nothing like getting a big frothy pitcher of Guinness on a winter night. read more

Hands down one of my favorite bars, simply for the service and drinks. They're that good. I've never tried the food, but I've tried the cocktails and they are perfectly stiff. The bartenders are experienced, friendly, and never disappoint. It is CASH ONLY! It's a pretty small bar, right by the beach with an old school feel. When I've gone it's usually been older crowds but the atmosphere is very laid back. They do have TVs and a pool table (only one though). read more

ercoles is great. small place that devotes 25% to of the available space to a pool table that is in the rear. on the north wall is a bar split into two with about 5-7 stools on each side. the front half is covered by some patio roof and contains a large island, while the middle section is more open and has a large picnic table. lower wooden booths along the south wall. two large ercoles signs above the bar used to hang outside. small menu, but the chicken or burgers are great. friendly crowd that skews younger and male, but really there are all ages in the place. cash only. classic mb. read more

Since I am not local to the area I called to find out the hours of the happy hour and prices for their beers. Instead of fully answering my questions, the guy who answered the phone simply put the phone down and let me wait. Then hang up. I called back;he picked up and hung up again. I'll give it 4 stars because it's unique and the bartenders were nice. I'm not a fan of dive bars. They are just not my style at all. I went here with a friend, so this was not my choice at all. This place is the epitome of a dive bar, so if your into that you will be in heaven. I went there for a taco Tuesday and the tacos are similar to Taco Bell, and the salsa as definitely Tostitos ... I can tell I've had at many Tostitos salsa at many of my little kid birthday parties growing up. It's cheap so if your on a budget this place is for you, for me -- I would rather spend money on a real street taco instead of an enriched flour tortilla taco with Tostitos and Kraft cheese (yuck). I use to be in the food biz back in the day so when food is cheap you know the quality is not up to par. Also I asked for wine and they gave it to me in a small bottle like the ones you get on an airplane ... I was mortified.. Again authentic dive bar.. Not for me, so if you like cash only and pitchers of beer with cheap food then you'll be back in college heaven! read more

Absolutley horrible experience. Went to grab a burger based on other yelp reviews. After waiting over 30 minutes for the food, I watched my burger get set in front of two other people. The first guy looked really confused, picked up the bun, looked at it funny and got up and walked away. A second person sat down, looked at the burger, put the pickle on her plate, and after more confusion, put the pickle back on the plate and handed it back to the bartender. The bartender looked at the plate, looked at me, walked it over and set it down in front of me. No way I'm eating food after two other people have had their hands in it, and the bartender looks at me as if I didn't see what just happened. I walked, and I suggest you do too. read more

Great spot with a ton of character in Manhattan Beach. Service is great (Irene is the best!) the food is great too. I've had taco's, grilled chicken sandwich and the burger and they are all very good quality. This place doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not. People will bitch about cash only - there's an ATM in the bar - so don't sweat the small stuff. Come to enjoy yourself without all the typical MB pretense. read more

divey! we went here on a saturday. wasn't too packed when we got there at about 930. slightly more crowded as the night progressed, but nothing that would scare me off and, believe me, i scare pretty easily. good music, lax atmosphere. pool table is pretty easy to get to. don't go here if you're looking for hip and chic or even people in their 20s. most of the patrons here are late 30s and up. overall, i'm a fan. not too many bars like this in mb. read more

I walked down to this place after eating at The Post, which was amazing. We were not ready to go home so this is where we ended up. We were carded (funny) and got a table right away. I put my name up for a game of pool and quickly chatted with others around the pool table. The game being played was doubles and they sucked! They were so rude and disrespectful to the others waiting. Not only that but after the old ladies lost the game they quickly began another one since the other girls name was on the board. When I went and asked about what happened I just brushed it off and walked away only to then find my name erased from the board. The guys playing the ladies told me that they were going to let them win so they could get lucky which was why the game was taking so long. Meanwhile, others whose names were on the board were getting annoyed. Finally the game was over and they guy said, "Ok, you can have the table." Fine, I racked them only to have him come back and attempt to make me play doubles so he could play (guess he ended up not getting lucky-loser). I simply smiled and began to take my first hit when he then said to another guy, "If she breaks well I don't want to play." Guess he didn't know I was a player (dam close to being a shark!) BAM, even made one in on the break. Will not return. read more

Though I have had many beers through the years and enjoyed myself each visit this is the first time I ordered food. Both mine and a friends hamburger were over cooked, dried out, burnt pieces of meat.
