Erin Pub - What a hidden gem this little place is. - Pubs Near Me - Norwood, Pennsylvania

Granted, this establishment is a legend in SE Delco. Just about everyone I know has been there or have parents that still go there. Families would hold special events or celebrations dinners there. In Norwood, it was the establishment. I have to say, I have not had a dinner here I was happy with in years. I go because family love it. The place is so outdated and needs a dusting, vacuuming and cleaning. Sitting under an air conditioner blowing dust and cobwebs over the area we are eating is not relaxing or enjoyable in the least. The food is sub par and I just don't understand the rave reviews. This restaurant would never make it in the city or other parts of the region. People would never pay for poorly prepared, non descript, and tasteless food. This place obviously has a loyal following. I gave it one last try and I am done. Family events will go on without me. I don't think eating in a restaurant for memories and nostalgia is enough. The food has to be enjoyable to charge that kind of money for meals. There is just nothing special about the food here. There are so few landmark restaurants left in SE Delco and this is one of them but it is in need of some serious upgrades in food, services and facilities. I'll go to the bar for the next family gathering and save some cash. I love to enjoy a good meal. I want to enjoy it. I just don't want to spend money on a so-so meal out. I want a restaurant to wow me, make it memorable, and make me want to come back. A dinner here feels more like dining at a run down retirement community dining hall. This restaurant was recommended by the hotel concierge. Food was satisfactory, but not great. Steak was dry. No options for entree salads, and looks of complete confusion when we asked for seafood placed on top of a bed of greens with dressing on the side. Waitstaff was odd, and a bit difficult to communicate with. While the food was being delivered, another waitress was liberally spraying disinfectant on the tables immediately adjacent to ours. The smell of disinfectant was overpowering, and clearly misting on the food. Waitstaff was completely unaware... Overall, unimpressive. Will never return. read more

Why would I NOT want to try out a place which sports the same name as myself? Well, I've been frequenting the Erin Pub for well over 14 years now. Granted, when I first started coming it was with my family because I wasn't even of age to drive, but now that I'm almost cough:thirty:cough, I can come and go as I please. The best place about the Erin Pub is the Chicken Parm, hands, legs and arms down. They pound the chicken out so it's not a big thick piece of chicken boob. The breading is crispy and crunchy and the sauce is amazing. They use steaks fries instead of the skinny little shoe fries. My family always gets the flounder, but I can't try anything else, because nowhere else compares to the level of their chicken parm. Negatives: It's tight, especially at the end of the week/weekend. It gets loud because it is smaller and tight, but it's a nice place to have a party. I've held surprise parties here before, and the staff was excellent. Another downfall that's a big one for me personally: the bathrooms. Small and tight just like the restaurant. The negatives however, have never deterred me from ever going here though. read more

We had reservations for 4pm on Saturday. There were 16 of us in all and they made us wait until everyone was there before sitting us. I guess if that's the "policy" than whatever, but you'd think the table for 16 will be cleared for at least 1/2 an hour before the reservation even starts, so it irked me a little that we had to wait in the relatively small waiting area with my fiance's elderly grandparents. I thought the decor was...interesting. The dark-stained tables and dividers were really beautiful, but the light fixtures looked like they came from IKEA. I love me some IKEA, but it didn't really fit. I expected something a little more rustic, I guess. The decor doesn't take away from the overall experience, I just thought I'd share. Once we sat down, our waitress was friendly and mostly attentive. I had to remind her to bring my second round, but I'll give her a break since it was a large party. The food was exceptional. The onion rings were SOOO good. I got the mussels over linguini with red sauce. It was the first time I'd ever ordered mussels at a restaurant and they were freakin' delicious. Plus, the portion was HUGE. I considered ordering a 1/2 portion, but I was afraid there wouldn't be many mussels to begin with. WRONG. I think we estimated somewhere between 35 and 40 of them on my plate. In hindsight, I wish I would have counted or taken a picture, but I was so excited, as soon as the food came I started shoveling. The red sauce was really tasty, too. Perfectly seasoned with a hint of spice. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. The only thing I didn't really like were the deep fried croutons on the side salads. To find the words to describe what had to have been one of the best meals I've had in the area for sometime. Sure, there were a few negatives - lets get those out of the way. The lighting was great when we walked in, but was dimmed not just to an "ambiance" level, but to a point where it was almost difficult to see other in our party. We were sat at a table that was much to small for our party of seven (7), 3 of them rather big men, and one two of the older ones movement impaired. So, that cost a star. But the food and service - that was spot on. I think at least half of our party had the Prime Rib. And did nothing but RAVE about it. I sampled it, and I admit - it was incredible. Especially considering it was an "early bird" special. I usually don't like PR due to all the reasons other love it. To much "fat" for me. But this, was done well. Still rich, but so tasty. And cuttable with a butter knife. There were a few other dishes, and I had the Filet and Shrimp - there is a "name" that I regret I've forgotten. The Shrimp were a decadance. Stuffed with seafood, and wrapped in Bacon. There were six larges ones, enough for myself, and to share around for samples. My filet was cooked perfectly, from edge to edge. And was a mouth numbing delight to eat. For moments I totally did not hear what was going on around me as I was taken away on a wave of flavor and sensation as I ate. Do not just skip the bread that comes to the table. Another thing stolen from a table inhabited by angels. A taste treat. Our Server, despite placement - was on the ball. keeping things filled up, checking with everyone and even managing to get the non-desert eating table to consume a few, despite the far to full tummies. She was attentive, without being pushy. I'll be returning again - and perhaps, the next time we'll be upgrading to 5 stars. read more

First went here 25 years ago, and I still love this place. It's a landmark and certainly a "special occasion" restaurant, birthdays, anniversaries, or even "I had a bad day at work and need something to cheer me up". The prime rib has to be a mistake. It's huge! Amazing for the price, and it has never disappointed me. Service staff are cool. We're not talking high brow fancy folks, just honest to goodness friendly competent attentive waitresses and bartenders. I've seen them swamped with business, but they've always made me feel like a valued and welcome guest. The building layout is interesting, like the restaurant grew to fill the available space, but the decor is nice and comfortable. Btw, they're Irish. April 01, 2016 This is a follow-up on my review from 09/28/2014. I was right when I wrote that review and I will not apologize for it. HOWEVER, restaurants CAN and DO improve. That's what Erin Pub has done in this case. I went with my friend Margie to an early dinner at Erin Pub and this is what I experienced: (1) We were greeted warmly and our waitress was a delight. She took our initial orders quickly and returned just as quickly with our drinks and some bread. Though I don't like the bread they serve, it was served quickly and I was very hungry. My friend Margie always orders the king-cut of the prime rib ($23.99), served medium rare. She takes home most of it because it feeds her for at least three additional meals! I ordered the early-bird dinner of Marsala Chicken ($13.50). I ordered fries and a side-salad to go with it and I have to say that I was completely STUFFED. My dinner, as well as my friend's, was served PIPING hot and fast. Mine was so hot that I could barely take a bite initially! I LOVED IT. I had asked the waitress if she would ask the kitchen to toss some additional mushrooms onto my order and they did it happily. I did not eat the rice - as the fries were SO hot and crisp that I could not resist them. Nor could I resist using the bread to sop up the sauce from my dinner after all the chicken was gone and that completely put me over the top. You could have rolled me home at that point. With my dinner I ordered a 16-oz. BLUE MOON beer ($4.99) and it was wonderful. It's my standard choice if I can't get a Sam Adams beer. IF you have not had Blue Moon beer, you owe it to yourself (if you're 21 or older, of course) to go taste it. It's great beer. I was glad I went to Erin Pub early. Let's get something straight the Erin pub has been a great establishment for years. My parents rant and rave about times they had here growing up and that's what places like this are made of... But there are some things that need to change for this place to gain a star or two from myself. First if you love red meat or steaks, like myself, you will love there prime rib! The king or even smaller queen cut is a lot of meat and plenty filling. Second ORDER the potato skins they are big and tasty! However the sides offered to your dishes are nursing home / hospital food like. The French fries are cut wedge like and are tasteless, no salt, and sometimes come out cold. Last time we were there we all ordered them and none of us touched them after eating the first one, very disappointing. The veggies are some frozen thawed general veggies with nothing done to them to make them more desirable. The scallops are never prepped right and cooked tough. I wish they would update the inside of this place, it's very dark and dim, and the decor is mostly ancient Celtic or random dark prints. Furthermore change some menu items for the better. Even the actual menus are pretty ancient looking. It needs a lot. read more

Went there Saturday around 6pm; it was busy but only waited 20 minutes for a seat. We ordered potato skins with cheddar cheese and shrimp lejohn, both were really good. My wife ordered the scallops and mashed potatoes. The scallops were good, but the mashed potatoes were lacking any seasoning (she was disappointed). I got the pick two combination (flounder and salmon fillet). Both were good, not drenched in butter, but a little bland. Got the veggies, both seemed to be canned frozen. They were ok. This was our first time coming here. We had reservations and were seated promptly and (fairly) courteously. Wife and I had a pint of Harp (tap) to start off. Pint glasses seemed extra large but the beer wasn't cold enough. A subsequent bottle of Molson Canadian was MUCH colder. **The tap refrigeration needs attention.** For apps the boys got crab fries. Perfect fries topped with lump crab and some kind of sauce mixed in. Very good. Wife and I split Clams Casino. Average preparation at best. Rubbery clams with mediocre topping. For entrees, wife got the Shrimp Lejon with filet. The bacon wrapped shrimp were good and the fillet was as well, albeit a tad rare (ordered medium). Son #2 got the 10 oz fillet mignon (choice of 6 or 10). He enjoyed it but it was surprisingly fatty. Wife joked that the fat was the extra 4 oz. I had broiled scallops and fillet. The scallops were prepared professionally and the steak temp was close enough. **The BIG issue of the night was son #1's twin lobster tails. Way over cooked and a COMPLETE waste of $30! Do not order this.** Our server was courteous and attentive, no issues there. All in all we had a good time and, for its' average price range of entree's, $20-25, The Erin Pub is OK. My family and I have been coming to the Erin Pub for 40 + years. My brothers and other family members were at the pub, today, Sunday, January 9, 2022. My family, a party of 7 arrived at 1:00 pm. We spent a few hours at the bar, then proceeded to the dining area. After spending $400+ dollars (DURING A PANDEMIC) we were told at 4:45 that they had another party coming in and they needed our table. We would not have been offended if the restaurant was crowded. But it was EMPTY. My husband and I spend a lot of money dining out, but we will not be spending it at The Erin Pub again. read more

My family and I have been coming to the Erin Pub for years for various family celebrations, so I wasn't surprised when my parents gave my husband and me a gift card for the EP as an anniversary present. We finally got around to using it last night. Since we live in Havertown just a stone's throw from the Main Line, we could have celebrated our anniversary in at least half a dozen finer establishments than the EP. But the Main Line becomes pretentious and cloying after a while, and that's when we head to the simpler restaurants in Southeast Delco. And again, we had a gift card to use. Both the working-class clientele and the simple food scream Southeast Delco. The menu is centered around meat and seafood, probably because most Southeast Delco diners are accustomed to only those categories of entrees. No complaints about my dinner, but be prepared for canned vegetables and gravy that tastes like the kind that originally comes in powered form. However, the mashed potatoes were homemade and of the yummy skin-on variety, so the EP scored points there. My broiled flounder was perfectly cooked but could have used a little more seasoning. True to Southeast Delco form, the EP doesn't reach out to vegetarians and those with food allergies and takes a what's-good-for-the-goose-is-good-for-the-gander approach to its entree offerings. There are no vegetarian-themed entrees on the menu, such as plain spaghetti, so if you insist on one, you will have to ask to have it specially made for you. The interior is very clean but dark, so watch your step, and the decor features the requisite Celtic framed prints. My server was efficient and polite. Essentially, EP is the Southeast Delco-ite's Le Bec-Fin, and the food, though basically good, screams that. But I won't hate on the EP, as this restaurant is an institution. Overall, I was satisfied with my experience at the EP and will probably come back for another visit in the future. read more

We went for lunch today..evrrything was going well. We always order the shrimp lejon. I asked one of the waitress how many there were on,the appetizer... She said 5 which is what I,thought as well. Told her we only received 4... We didn't even really care about it... Until she came back and said she counted 5. Tails on our cleared plate. I thought I misunderstood her. She said it again.. I had just started eating my entree. I then realized she was basically confronting us calling us liars. I was insensed at that point. We weren't looking for anything . I never swallowed my first bitem and left, I couldn't eat .. I was furious with this goofball. My husband paid the bill,tipped OUR waitress,who,was very nice and we left. Today was our anniversary. This goofball waitress who basically called,my husband and I liars, is supposedly the,owner.!!! I will share this story with family, friends,anyone who will listen... Never have I experienced such behavior... I will never set foot in that place again. This stupid goofy ridiculous women (owner) is what she claimed, ruined my anniversary. I was so upset we didin't finish our plans for the day... You don't insult paying customers who simply questioned how many shrimp come in the appetizer... This is hands down my favorite place to eat period! Steaks and seafood are great. Chicken parm is to die for. I just left and can't wait to go back! So reasonably priced, such quick friendly service. If you are in Norwood, definitely give this hidden gem a try! read more

My family frequently uses the Erin Pub for family events and they are always so accommodating and attentive. This past week I had an especially good time while out with friends. Our waitress Danielle made my dining experiance exactly what you hope to have. She kept me laughing and made us all feel like we have known each other for years. The reviews are right. Staff is very friendly! I give it a three, because border line 2! Becuase if I go to a Irish Pub my expectation is a few Irish food items. It doesn't have to go crazy but just one or two other than fish and chips. Food is very good, or ordered the Prim Rib, the small one was too big! So definitly worth going to if your in the mood for a good american meal. The seafood sounded likt it was good, but stuck with the big old slab of beef! Ive lived in the area for years but having worked at neighboring rival restaurants have not had occasion to visit this Delco landmark for a meal. I was pleasantly surprised. We casually sat at a high top at the bar were given the happy hour menu which was pretty well priced ( big dish of Mussels Red for $5.95-and they were good). We had the early bird versions of the Prime Rib and Salmon each were tasty and reasonably priced. We were told to order the wings from a friend, which seemed like an odd referral, but did off the happy hour menu and were surprised how good they were. This turns out to be a nice bar to have a snack and beer during happy hour. I would go back to do the same. read more

Sat in the bar which was a horrible mistake. Horrible service as many other staff members went by. Deviled clams and stuffed mushrooms was great. Chicken cordon Bleu sandwich was a disaster.
