If I am anywhere near Patterson, I try to stop here. This place is a total hole-in-the-wall, but the food is amazingly tasty. The best endorsement for this taqueria is that when ordering a burrito, there is really no need to get a super (which is not the case at all taquerias, at least for me - a regular burrito can be a bit dry, making me wish I had just sprung for the added cheese, guacamole, and sour cream). Ernie's burritos are a little smaller (and cheaper) than your typical huge taqueria burrito, but they are really flavorful and inexplicably juicy. Hold the added fat and calories of a super burrito, and you won't miss it. Sometimes the service is a bit lacking (the counter woman will forget to give you your chips and soda), but it's not a big deal. The salsa bar is pretty small and could probably use some pico de gallo, but it is a pretty small place. Overall, the food makes up for any of these minor shortcomings. I recently moved to the area and after reading all the good reviews about the place I decided to try it out. I was NOT happy. I ordered the shredded chicken burrito. While the services was quick I do have to say the burrito was just ok. This wouldn't have bothered me if there weren't bones in my burrito! I know that this would not bother some people, but that is a huge no-no for me. I'm not entirely sure how it is even possible for bones to end up in a shredded chicken burrito (and I'm not talking tiny fragments, I'm talking big chunks). I went to this place based on the Yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. I got the cheese enchiladas and a taco, and the wife had a burrito, a taco, and beans & rice. After sampling everything I can safely say that the food tasted fresh, homemade and had that authentic Mexican flare to it. Their chicken was flavorful and was not overdone; which is something that most taquerias tend to do. The jukebox was a little loud, but that's because the dining room was also so quiet. They also have air conditioning, something that a few other places in town don't have and therefore I don't go back *cough* Ranch Burger *cough*. Where does Ernie's lose points? First of all, the floors in both the dining room and kitchen look like they haven't been mopped in about 3 months. A clean restaurant is a necessity! Second, they don't have to-go menus. Seriously?!? I want to give them return business by calling my order in but they don't have any freaking to-go menus? That's just bad business. Bottom line: food was great and I'll definitely go back for it. There are truly some places that deserve a yelp out. Ernies is one of them. Nothing fancy on the outside, nothing fancy on the inside. The food is the bomb. Even a simple super carnitas burrito was filled with well season, full of flavor goodness that wasn't smothered by the usual flood of sour cream and lettuce shavings. Ernie's is by far the best Taqueria in Patterson. With Patterson being a town where Taqueria's out number other dining establishments.Ernie's is my first pick every time driving by at least two other choices to get to Ernie's.This place is best suited as a phone in and take home.It is not one of the larger Taqueria's in town it can get a bit cramped on a busy afternoon. One of the major pluses about this is i can place my order while exiting the freeway and only have to wait a few minutes upon arrival to receive my warm meal. Another major plus is I have never received an incorrect order (nothing worse than getting home to find out there is sour cream in your burrito when you asked for no creme) they get it right every time. read more

We're new P-town residents, so we're still getting used to everything there. We did however hear from a few people that Ernie's is the place to get good Mexican food. So we ventured on in there this past Saturday, and everything was so good! I had the flautas with shredded beef and the husband had a breakfast burrito. Both were delish and fairly inexpensive. I didn't see until after I ordered that there were giant bowls of Menudo too! I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. This is the spot to get a Burrito and Nachos. All the other places I have been to in Patterson either had flies flying around or the Nachos were too salty. I also noticed that the Burrito spots in Patterson don't give you free tortilla chips with a burrito order like the bay area taqueria's. They charge you extra for some reason. I tried this place out last weekend, I'm fairly new to the Area. I ordered some menudo to go. The place was fairly busy but I still got my food rather quickly. They have a good salsa/condiment bar. The Menudo was good, they give you options for some pata and or some hominey in your menudo. I definitely will be back to try out some more food. read more

This is a Patterson favorite...located in older downtown Patterson this Mexican food is the yummiest of all taquerias I've had and very good prices. I've tried their tacos, super burritos, fajitas it is all yummy! I had Ernie cater my wedding and everyone raved about how food the food was. Parking is slim pickins, restaurant is small, not too clean. Ordered a wet super burrito, fiance got a super burrito and baby got a quesadilla. For drinks got horchata and water. Got the food, first thought was that my 'wet sauce' (enchilada sauce) was very, very dark. It's usually a bright red, this one was so dark it was almost black! Anyways, took my first bite with the sauce and boy it was salty. Took another bite and still... Salty. And trust me, I love salt... But boy, this was way too much. Took a few bites from the edge of the burrito that wasnt drenched in sauce and it was mediocre. Not delicious, buy not bad either. Baby's quesadilla was okay. Fiance said his burrito was average. One thing I have to mention is that the HORCHATA was muy delicioso! We will go again to try something else next time, but if that's 'no bueno' - that's it for me! I'll re-review at that time. I came here with my mom and aunts, based off yelp reviews. Great service, food came out quickly, staff was nice, portions were huge--however almost everything they use is canned. Canned cheese (I got the super nachos), canned beans, canned salsa, stale chips, guacamole had WAY too much lemon, the only saving grace was the carne asada, which was pretty good. The absolutely worst experience ever! Really rude staff. Cannot believe what happened. The Egg Rancheros were burned, the salsa was not mexican style, and the carnitas burrito looked dry. The plastic spoons would not cut thru the chilaquiles or the eggs. We asked for metal utensils and they had hair and dried food on them. Their tables and seating area were filthy. Ernies is a great place to get some real good Mexicsn food. If your going to find a place that will fill you up and while doing so you expect to enjoy what it is you are served then go here. Theres lots of things to choose from even kid size meals. On a personal note if you were to ask me Ernie makes the best carnitas I have ever had in my life. There are tables inside for dining in. The food on multiple occasions has given me and my friends food poisoning. If anyone goes in there, feel free to look at the interior.... It is horrible and I'm surprised I haven't seen cockroaches and rats scurrying around more. Ernie's also has the lovely reputation of allowing the local tweakers to work there.
