Delicious! I normally love my drinks all sugared up but this is the first place that has satisfied my sweet tooth without being bad for me. Let me set the scene: it's the jackalope fair in Pasadena on a Sunday. The sun is high and blazing at almost 90 degrees. My friend finds their tent and buys a whole bottle ($15). I turn up my nose at the price and don't want to have any. After dying of thirst for an hour, I finally cave and drink some of her strawberry lime tea. My goodness - it was like having a sip of heaven. Needless to say, I went back and filled up the bottle for a $5 refill and drank most of the bottle myself. Can't recommend this place enough. One of their unique tea blends is the Rooibos guava that was really soothing and comforting to the soul and with actual guava pulp and a splash of lemon juice it's no wonder I keep on thinking about it. To warm me up I also had to explore their hot cocoa mate and this drink was a definite winter treat with a super charged house blend that kept me humming like a bird on a hunt for nectar! And definitely leave a little room for a couple of shortbread cookies that are homemade Peruvian circular delights dusted with powdered sugar and filled with Dulce de Leche! I stopped by here and got the cinnamon tea. It was really good and the vibes were immaculate. The worker was really nice. They had a little bar seating area for their teas, and samples out for their cookies. I'm not really a cookie gal but I tried it and it was pretty good. This shop is next to my favorite Pasadena ramen shop, but I never knew what Yerba Mate is. I actually thought this was a kombucha shop (are those a thing?). I finally came in and was recommended the Agave Latte, hot with oat milk. It's soooooo delicious, was better than a Starbucks Frappuccino, I kid you not. It was like drinking a warm big hug that smelled like cinnamon. The empanadas are awesome, too, and my friends really enjoyed them. The barista said spinach was the most popular, but all 5 flavors are spectacular. The chimichurri sauce was dynamite, too. I wish I could eat that with everything. Found this place but chance! The barista and cashier were super friendly and welcoming. I really enjoyed the colorful, fun vibe the actual bar had-it reminds me of the bars in Guadalajara city. They have indoor seating with hanging plants as well as an outdoor seating area with umbrellas. If you want something light and energizing, stop by and grab yourself a mate drink. I chose the tulsi-passion shaken drink which is perfect if you like something tart yet sweet. I have been enjoying Erva's delicious mate at festivals and famers markets for years, and their storefront couldn't have come at a better time. Whether you have been missing your mate and need a fix, or just looking for something to drink that doesn't come out of your own Brita...look no further. The space is brand spanking new, aka sparkly clean, and on both of my visits the owners made sure everyone was wearing a mask (and the mate-tenders wearing gloves too). I don't live in Pasadena, but they sell 64 oz growlers which will last me all week, and have tons of parking. And food! I finally tried the Empanada today (seasonal fruit, which was peach and masala) and it was the perfect pair to my Tulsi Passion. A few days ago I was craving a sweet iced mocha coffee. Found this spot on Uber Eats and ordered to pickup their iced cocoa mate and a couple pomodoro empanadas. Quick easy handoff in front of the store from a very nice and professional gentleman. After taking a sip, I realized that I really wasn't paying much attention to the fact that what I ordered wasn't actually coffee. Putting that aside, it was delicious! I've found my substitute for coffee. The empanadas were delicious although I felt they were a little pricey and I'll probably pass on them the next time around. Very nice service! I had the beyond meat and eggplant empanadas, entirely vegan, and they were amazing. You could hardly tell at all that there were no animal products because of how savory and delicious they both were. The wait was literally what only like 5 seconds but the staff was kind enough to give me a taste of their plantain chips and roasted corn nuts. Overall, the food was light but filling, and the environment was very inviting, especially for newcomers who might not have had food from South America. I hadn't tried Yerba mate before. They were so nice and explained about what Yerba mate was. the drinks are made to order. They have distinct flavors for their drinks. The empanadas are delicious. I had the spinach one. They warm up the empanadas or you can take them cold to warm them up at home. They have a couple of tables and chairs outside the store to eat there. They are dog friendly. Erva brew however, had the brilliance to set up their kiosk at the 30 minute line mark for Howlin Ray's. A large number of people waiting to order that awesome chicken, decide to try this place for a refreshing drink. I've never had any sort of Yerba Mate tea before. The lady running this place, Sophia, is just adorable. She is personality plus and really takes her time with each customer. She gave us samples of everything we wanted to try, and made some custom blends until we figured out what each of us wanted - I ended up loving a 50/50 blend of the Strawberry Lime and the Tamarind Lime. Absolutely delicious, I went back for two refills! Sophia is awesome, her customer service is a huge part of people wanting to give her their business. I'm so excited that there's finally a Yerba Mate spot!!! I'm tired of drinking these in cans! It's such a nice alternative to drinking something super refreshing and healthy for you, and something other than coffee!
