I had such an AMAZING time at this escape room location. I am honestly surprised that there are any negative reviews for this place. The experience that I had was perfect. From the moment you step into the Escape Hotel, you are immersed in its story. All the staff were dressed and acted in character. One of the staff was really good at acting, improvising, and at jump scaring me while we waited in the lobby for our game to start (I tend to get easily startled), which made our wait very fun and memorable. I wish I knew his name. All the decor was beautiful; the "spooky hallway" to the bathroom was indeed very spooky. My boyfriend and I did the Daycare room, which is rated as easy and linear. I've only done five escape rooms to date, so I'm not that experienced. I found the difficulty level of the Daycare room to be perfect for our group of 2. We were able to complete it with 20 minutes to spare. We both love horror and scary stuff, although I get scared very easily. The Daycare room was very creepy and immersive, with lots of jump scares. I was scared throughout the whole experience (which is what we were looking for). If you hate being in the dark, this is not the room for you. I would love to come back here to check out the escape rooms!! They also have a restaurant/bar upstairs, which opens at 5pm. I wrote a separate review for the restaurant (called Room Number 13). The staff is so friendly and hilarious. Loved all of them. They really give it their all and definitely know how to scare you. I would say they are really what make the experience. As soon as you walk in, you see a band playing at the top, a couple of the actors, and this giant room. Very unique! I've tried different horror escape rooms and would put this as highly rated a great choice. You're put right in the middle of the theme as soon as you walk in! The escape room itself was great!! I wish there was a live actor in it, but even without the live actor it was such a nice experience. We did the scariest room; the attic. I loved the puzzles that they gave. I think what differentiates this escape room from others is the puzzles make so much sense and are so creatively done. Other ones I've been to have you questioning how anyone was supposed to solve that. But not this place. I love the way they presented their clues and they definitely give you jump scares throughout the room. What a great experience. I would comeback and recommend it to others! I'd separate the escape room itself from their upstairs dining service. I was very curious what it would be like since I've never had an escape company do also a restaurant. We were sat in the very back and they only offered to move us right when we finished our meal and were about to leave, which had us confused. It took very long for our orders to arrive. On top of that our server never delivered one of our orders. So we asked for it again and they brought it, but double charged us by forgetting about the first time we asked. So we had to get that fixed. The food itself is also just mediocre with the portions being smaller than it looks in the pictures. I would not eat there again. The service and the food were both disappointing. But as an escape room itself which is the main attraction, it's such a lovely place that has so many options to try and definitely worth coming back to. From the decor to the employees being in character to our experience doing the daycare escape room that actually did scare even the bravest of us in the room with the lights, music, sound effects and even jump scares from the room dropping clues or closet opening with more clues. Residing on the fabulous and iconic Hollywood Blvd, lies the Escape Hotel. Right as you walk in, you'll be immersed within the haunting atmosphere. Penny was super sweet and accommodating, especially given the fact that I am not (as of writing this) 21 yet. She had served us a delicious mock-tail of a traditional Shirley Temple. It was soooooo good! It was then our time for the game to start, and we were led through by our game master, Cameron! He was super thorough and clear, while remaining undeniably hilarious! Without him, our experience would not have been as funny as it was. He gave us helpful tips and provided great insight (without spoiling anything) for the horrors waiting for us inside. As I have mentioned, I am a returning customer. Our first time here, we played The Attic. It is their hardest room, but we successfully escaped with only minutes to spare (Cameron was also our game master for that as well!). It was so good and scary, that we HAD to come back for more! We decided this time to play Resurrection, their second hardest room. If you can't tell - I love a challenge. To no surprise, we escaped and only yearn to play the other rooms next. Lastly to round out my experience here, we had met Stone, who took our pictures below. He was such a delight to talk to. We ended up talking to him, Cameron, and Deanna for like almost a whole hour. My partner and I came here for the magic show and dinner event. It was not quite what I was expecting - for some reason I thought it would be a separate area where the magic was happening vs. where EVERYTHING else was. The magic was on the second floor of the "hotel" and the lobby and entrance for all the events was on the first floor. Every time a new Escape Room started or guests were welcomed, we would hear it upstairs. Also, the magic was pretty OK - maybe I had higher expectations, but it was pretty standard. The food, I will say, was the best part of the night. Their green tea salad was OK but I must commend the cacio e pepe. Overall, do I think it was a cute date night or a group event idea? Sure. But there are a lot of other events in LA that might be a lot more appealing and worth the value. read more

Loved the Magic Show! Everyone was in character and the Magic was awesome! In Room 13 upstairs which is a circular balcony around the stage. The details of the venue from walking in the door, the decorations and ambiance added to the evening! I would come back just to have a drink in the lobby and soak up the atmosphere. What needs improvement: service was excellent the rest of dinner was poor at best. The drinks were good, a spicy margarita was great! Caesar Salad was the best thing we ordered. The crab cake was the worst I'd ever had. Was it frozen, defrosted and topped with fishy caviar. It was cold and non eatable. Chicken salad was a bed of greens and major digging to find the chicken. The salmon was raw inside and we had to eat around the outside of it. The server stated "these things happen". An indication that he's aware the food is pretty awful. My friends and I had a blast at this unique and creepy Escape Hotel! Walking in, I really felt like we were in a haunted hotel, and the workers there were fully dressed and acting to match the eerie theme! There was a bar upstairs and live music, which we enjoyed before we started our escape room. The rooms each have a different theme and story. I don't want to give too much away, but there are some great effects that will seriously scare you but in a fun way! We ended up doing two different rooms because we had so much fun and didn't want to leave. Each room gives you the standard one hour to get out and the ability to get clues along the way if you want. If you're looking for a fun group activity in Hollywood, this is it. I celebrated my birthday here with a party of five. We completed Attic which is a 15% escape rate and Daycare 65% escape rate (no hints to boot). Both rooms were seriously super eerie but so much fun! I've also completed Cursed Crypt before, which isn't really a scary attraction more like action and adventure if you want to steer away from the horror. I do 100% recommend Attic if you want a good scare. If you're a first timer, I would start off with Daycare since it provides a good amount of scare and it's easy lol. We were lucky to be paired with Cameron, he helped us check in and gave us a memorable experience. The atmosphere overall is eerie but mesmerizing. It's so cool because you get a little passport with your photo on it and they stamp every room you've escaped. There's also a bar and entertainment so while you're waiting for your game to begin, there's something you can do. We did play on a Sunday, so it was $49 per person. FYI: They are closed Mondays. All in all, this is the best Escape Room in Los Angeles. I always have a great time bonding with family and friends here. I'm not at all a brainiac, i'm more of the comedic relief in the group but it helps to have someone who's really good at puzzles lol. read more

What a great and fun night of mystery and puzzle solving! The moment I walked in the hotel the actors, employees and characters were all dressed to make the vibe real as we gathered to check in and have our passports made and stamped for a night of adventure. I highly recommend this for something different and creepy. Lots of laughter, screams and you will come out alive I promise lol! I really enjoyed my experience here. Being an la native the easy route to go for a birthday celebration is a club, day party, rooftop, etc so this was a little different but perfect for a Sunday evening. I believe it's a $20 cover that was paid at the time of the reservation. We walked into the lobby and the place has a lot of workers in character to make it creepy ish but we walked past them and up the stairs to the lounge where you can see a gorgeous singer who takes requests and sings all the classics. Drinks were stiff but good and there's even a magician walking around while the singer takes a break. We had a reservation for 6 for the cursed crypt over the weekend. Make sure to book RSVP online especially if you have a large group or during peak times. Parking is meter on the street, paid lot across the street or paid structures nearby. The checkin process is at the front desk where everyone has to fill out waivers. There is a random worker dressed up scaring waiting customers so be aware! There is also a restaurant and full bar upstairs if you want to grab food/drinks before your game time or after. The cursed crypt story line is you're trapped inside a Eqyptian tomb and trying to escape. This room has a 40% escape rate with a level 5 hardness. Total you will go through 3 different rooms to escape. This definitely requires alot of teamwork but the flow of the puzzles are pretty fun. You do have the option for unlimited clues on the TV if you're really lost. The best parts are the awesome animatronics in the final room on the boat. It's like you're in an Indiana Jones movies with the timer clicking by and special effects and sounds. We got out with 7:53mins to spare. Overall a great fun experience for beginners and intermediate level escape room players. This room is probably too easy for advanced players though since most are straight forward linear clues in the storyline. This is also the least "scary" room of all available rooms for younger kids or people that are scared. Note yes this place does have higher fee then most places but you are in Hollywood where they are catering to tourist mostly. read more

I surprised my boyfriend to a reservation at the Escape Hotel restaurant for his birthday, with the hopes of also joining an escape room. The check in process was simple and we got seated right away. We had such a great time during dinner with the unique experience of the haunted hotel theme, every few minutes the lights would flicker and guests would hear spooky noises. The dining area is upstairs and we were seated right next to the stage where we got to see a live performance of a woman with a cool, old-timey voice. The dining area has low lighting which definitely sets the mood for an intimate dining experience. The drinks from the bar were all themed, kind of old hollywood if I remember correctly, and they were so good. The menu is a bit limited and I wouldn't show up here starving. Great for tapas and shareables. After finishing dinner, we went downstairs to try and join an escape room. At this point, the lobby is full of groups (it was a Saturday night). We were told all the rooms were full. So I believe they do take walk ins, but as people normally come in groups the rooms will fill up quickly especially on the weekend nights. You can make a reservation for the rooms on their website! This was a huge bummer but again something that could have been avoided with some better planning. There is much to explore and love about this place. What drew me in is the window displays: Vintage horror mystery. The "hotel" looks like a 1920s-1940s blast to the past with a hint of spooky hauntings. As you enter the lobby, an authentic reception area will create your Escape Hotel passport. The lobby lounge is a beautiful place to relax in if you are watching the live performers up on the second level stage or just waiting your turn for an escape room. Upstairs, is the hidden restaurant/bar speakeasy. The seating is circular with all seats on a balcony style and views of the stage. All the workers are "dead" ghosts of the past in vintage attire. They seem to enjoy working there and get into character as they serve you! Entertainment: Thursdays are Frank Sinatra nights which brings in a lively crowd. Fridays are currently magic show nights. $20 per person for a seat upstairs. You may order any dinner or drinks upstairs from your ghost host. The magic show was created by Alex Kazam and the co-owner, Ivan Leon. They created all the magic contraptions and machines that rotate on and off the stage. The magician's assistants are incredibly talented! They perform a lot of the magic! Igor, a character in the show, does a great job in his role! Saturdays are either the Satin Dolls dinner show or vintage song nights by talented singers. Sundays are Blues & Jazz band. Special effects are everywhere! Be prepared for hourly hauntings, thunder & lightening storms, portraits moving on the walls, chandeliers swaying. That's just in the dining, lounge, reception, and hall areas. Special effects are even more spectacular in the 6 escape rooms! Once you try one, you will want to try them all! They are such creative and great experiences! Hence, the passport to receive your stamp once you escape each room! They are pricey: $50 per person with up to 6 people per room. It is totally worth it! I've done 4 over the year. My favorite is the Crypt- built by the designers from the Laura Croft Tomb Raider movies! This is a huge multi-room escape where you will be transported to Laura's family crypt to look for clues, to an old Admiral's office, and then overseas to a ... I'll stop. Don't want to give it away! Awesome special effects! My other favorites are: Daycare, The Attic, The Zombie Lab. Food and drinks: Try the shrimp, the cheese balls, the lamb, the duck salad, the tacos. Review for CURSED CRYPT: Having been to multiple escape rooms, this one has always intrigued me. One day while we were strolling along Hollywood Blvd, I finally decided to poke my head in and look around. The lobby was wonderfully decorated, the staff was in character, the bar was well stocked and the creepy hallway leading to the escape room gave me chills. Fast forward and a group of my friends and I decide to visit The Crypt. The room was kind of small, and the immersive experience was a tad bit lacking. I enjoyed one of the rooms, but would not recommend maxing out the room capacity. For the price you pay, and the experience in the lobby, I just expected a bit more from the Escape Hotel. This is definitely one of the more pricier rooms I have been to, and felt that it should have at least included a game master or even a live actor to elevate the escape room. Overall, it was just ok. Maybe I'll try out one of the horror rooms in the future, since that is what they are famous for. read more

Was very excited for the experience and was greeted by wonderful folks upon entry. The holiday decor was beautiful as well. Although the initial time here was enjoyable, I would not come back given our experience towards the end of our time in the escape room. We thought we progressed to another room towards the very last minute & tried opening a door that we heard a click from... however, someone named King arrived and quickly ruined it. He was very hostile in his interaction with us, scolding us for trying to "push" open the door (which was not the case). He continued with his sly remarks and just made our experience feel like a waste of time and money. We agreed that we would not come back because of this. We got tickets specifically for Latin night and had a good time. It was a little confusing at first when we walked in because there's people there for the escape room and there's characters running around screaming, scaring people. The dinner and show was held upstairs, but it started a little late and some of the staff seemed over it, tired. Our server was nice and the food was OK. The show itself was entertaining, but not the best, singing and dancing I've ever seen. they were, however, always smiling and enthusiastic and had great energy and I really liked when they encouraged people to get up and dance. You really feel like you are walking into a hotel when you walk in. They give you a passport once you registered, you get a stamp once you get out and you can keep track of all the rooms for when you come back! They have live music and a bar on the 2nd floor. There are 6 different Escape rooms with different difficulty/ themes. The lighting was a little dimmed but it makes it more interesting. You can have 6 people max in a room. This review comes with a warning. We arrived to this place and our guest got incredibly sick that he was escorted out with his wife. No one came to check on our friend when we said he was sick, offer him water. This all occurred while waiting in the lobby. Not even a 50% refund. a) we were punctual b) we were patiently waiting for our game to begin. I've been to an escape rooms before and have even been provided discount codes to come back. After spending 215.60, for 4. Without a refund, I would strongly warn anyone else coming to ask before you pay, if someone gets sick what would happen if they had a seizure during a game or throw up? We had to rush our friend to urgent care. Not sure how he got sick, but he didn't enter being sick. We were looking for an escape room themed for St. Patrick's Day, but since The Cursed Child was playing at The Pantages, we decided to do our March room to match that theme: the Cursed Crypt - Escape Hotel Hollywood! There is absolutely no connection whatsoever between the play and the escape room, but, wow, Escape Hotel Hollywood is truly an experience that defines the best of the good old days of noir, romance and the hey-days of the silver screen. Although new compared to the established attractions of Walk of Stars or the Wax Museum, we highly recommend this attraction as a must-do to get the full Los Angeles experience. Since we have reserved seats for The Pantages, we made our booking for the escape room online for before the play. The minimum booking was for three people, so for our empty-nesting duo, it was about the same for us as holiday pricing, with a 10% service charge added to every ticket at checkout. There is a slim chance for cheaper pricing if you walk in bookings, but we highly recommend getting there as soon as they open for that. The window dressing as we walked by on Hollywood Boulevard was what drew us to check out the Escape Hotel initially; once we entered the lobby, we were immediately transported to a colonial world where bellhops and comfy divans shared space with axe-welding murderers and baby doll spirits. There were snacks and coffee, and even Dr. Pepper available for purchase in the lobby, and the space was decorated with the best FX fit for the location. They require you to be there 30 minutes earlier or you are no-show, but we were on board the minute we arrived at the unbelievable lobby. There were people ahead of us, so we had time to admire the "gratuity graves" dedicated to each employee before our turn. Upon completing the check-in process, we were given our souvenir passports (with on-site photos taken), which served to keep track of our games with them (they currently have six rooms) - totally in theme, and the reason for the earlier than usual check-in. There were plenty of restrooms, both downstairs past the adventures, and upstairs past the bar, restaurant and live stage. It was a little dark, but there was a nice shadow box display of toilet paper in the stalls, and hand lotion was provided. We had to leave all our things in a canvas bag with a lock on it before our game (we kept the key), which we thought was a little unnecessary, and the video introduction was not terribly inspiring or motivating, maybe because we were so excited to start the game. Our game guide at the start of the game was not the same person who took our pictures, but he did a great job excellent getting us in the mood and getting our head in the game. To begin with, our team are archeologists, trying to retrieve the Pyramid of Ancient Wisdom, which had been stolen for the cursed crypt tomb of five Egyptian pharaohs. We started off in the tomb, but, wow, the journey we took to find the "lost relique" was totally unexpected and unpredictable. The story line is linear, but the conclusion circles back to the start of game, so there were a couple of puzzles we solved out of turn that did nothing until we solved the puzzles before. That led to some confusion, because the game trip, slated as "medium difficulty" was, for the most part, both dark and loud. The room showcased a good mix of high tech, low tech, jump scares even with no live actor inside with us, and red herrings, but we were not a huge fan of the hints system. It had potential but we were not always given a clue when we asked for it, and even the game guide was hard to hear when he overrode the computerized delivery. For the first time ever, we had to be told the game was not over when we thought it was, it got so crazy (in a good way!) ... Once our game was really done, we had our passports stamped and victory photos taken. It is not a wheelchair-friendly game - and we had to take a few minutes to recover from our adventure when it was done - so the photo booth in the lobby with the couch and teddy bear was quite welcome! We have five other pages left in our passport and we can't wait till the next trip. There is no doubt our next stay at the Escape Hotel in Hollywood will include dinner and live music; as packed as the lobby was already when we made our exit, making reservations way ahead of time only makes sense! read more

What a fantastic find! I've done plenty of escape rooms in the past but Escape Hotel is truly a one of a kind experience!! We went for my brother's birthday and I'm in love with this hotel. It's got Tower of Terror vibes. But this was the first time having a place that is dining and an escape game. Of course you don't need to do both, but if you're here WHY NOT! Drink: 5/5 Every drink we got was on-point. Bar tender was on fire! Atmosphere: 5/5 Very detailed in the decor, staff members did not break character. The burlesque show was AMAZING and was just so much fun. They sang, they dance, it was a good time. Please make sure to make a reservation so you can enjoy the dinner and show. Fun, exciting and challenging experience. I've been to three of the escape rooms and I have 3 left to try.

We played DayCare today at Escape Hotel and it was fun! The room has a lot of fun creepy moments. It's rather dark to see at times. The puzzles were not too difficult so this is a good room for beginners. They have a lot of different games at this location. The lobby is beautiful. The staff is awesome!!! Hands down our favorite experience when we were in Hollywood! We had a 7pm reservation at Room 13, we decided to try to book a spot for an escape room when we arrived and they had a 7:30pm spot, so we headed to the restaurant to have a couple drinks and watch their entertainment til it was time to head to our escape room. We asked if we needed another reservation to come back and eat, they told us they would hold our table! The escape room was so fun and challenging! When we got back to the restaurant they really did hold our table for us. The singer Emily was wonderful and they had a magician going table to table that was so good!!! We went to the restaurant (and not the escape rooms) and it was a complete mixed bag. But the ultimate bottom line is that the staff was so out of control that they ruined the atmosphere that the website promised and we will never go back, primarily because of the staff. So here is the good and the bad... First the good. Strictly, as a restaurant, the food was very good and well prepared. The drinks were tasty and the waiter was attentive and professional. Lily was the singer and she had a beautiful voice, good stage presence and interacted well with the audience. Now the bad. The website sold us on this place. But the atmosphere and style promised online was not fulfilled in person. The staff downstairs was awful in that they ruined the experience and are the primary reason we won't return. When they had customers they were fine. But, it was a slow night and they acted like high schoolers whose parents were gone for the night. So my first thought was "where was management." We arrived at 7:00 and were the first people to be seated. the staff was yelling back and forth from upstairs to downstairs. Certainly not keeping the theme of an high end supper club. While Lily was singing, the downstairs staff was OK, but when she took her break, they were loud, yelling to each other, throwing items from the bottom level to friends on the balcony above. They were sometimes cursing and just acting like unsupervised children. I don't think they realize that they are part of the atmosphere of the "high end supper club" and all the tables look down on their antics. I don't think they totally got the concept that they are not just staff, they are part of the supper club experience as they are always visible and can be heard upstairs. While Lily was good, she seemed so unprepared and spent time after each song looking for the next song on her phone. Her playlist wasn't prepared in advance so it seemed like she was hired an hour ago and someone told her to get up and sing so she was figuring out what to do as she went along. She was so good that it was disappointing that she came off as unprepared. Not only that, the website promises a 1920's supper club. But she was singing music as late as Stevie Nix. Many of her songs didn't keep with the theme promised on the website. She should have been singing songs up to the 1940's at the latest. It isn't enough to be a great singer and performer, which she is, we are there for a specific experience, promised on the website and she didn't provide that. All-in-all, this place is close to being great. But it fell way short of the mark. I think a good manager, who properly supervises the staff and makes sure that performer keeps with the theme could get this place from the three stars (which was just for the food/alcohol) and turn it into 5 stars. read more
