Room was of medium difficulty and not scary, with immersive details like hot stone surfaces, atmospheric sounds, maps, ropes, and a dry, adventurous environment that feels like exploring a real archaeological dig site or ancient temple. We had Jamar as our moderater. Nice fella. Very chill, and personable. The tech inside the rooms were impressive and we had a lot of fun. I recommend everyone to go. I give it 3 stars for a few reasons without giving anything away: 1. Rooms are too linear. Puzzles were done one at a time. Thats really fun for a smaller group, not a larger group. 2. Puzzles. Have you ever played an escape game on your phone and when you ask for a hint or clue, a circle highlights an item for you to help out with the next step? It felt the same way in one of the rooms where the next item was lit up. Made it too easy. 3. Jamar also helped us too often. He was very eager to help. Happened on 5-6 occasions where he spoke to us via the radio without us asking. He didn't even give us 5 min to ponder and think. We beat the rooms with so much time to spare too. Please give us some time to suffer bc thats part of the fun. I think there should be a policy that the moderator only helps if all participants agree and raise their hand... or they can warn the group that they are severely behind and ask if they want a hint. Other than that, just let it be. Another minor complaint we all had was in the Avalanche Room, the second room seemed to belong to Area 51. The theme shifted drastically so it felt very odd. However, it was impressive. Despite all that, we had a LOT of fun and would go again. This was a fun way to spend an afternoon in LA. Super easy to find parking. I called in advance and they let me know I could park in the neighborhood adjacent to the building and there were plenty of spots when I arrived. The staff were friendly and helpful too, especially when someone in our party wasn't feeling super comfortable with the doors being closed. I appreciated that they were flexible so we could all enjoy the day. We did the secret treasure themed room and it was challenging without being so hard we stopped enjoying ourselves. We told them we wanted to figure things out ourselves but the clues given were so direct- "place it on x" instead of something like "find where that would fit", "look for xxx and place xxx here". We had a terrible experience at Maze Rooms on Robertson tonight.I really do not recommend. We saw online that the temple escape room was available at 10:00 PM, so we booked it and headed over. Once we got there, the guy told us that he already cleaned that escape room and that it's closed and there's only one available, the avalanche (which was the one we wanted to do the least). Obviously he just was annoyed that someone booked the last spot and he wanted to go home. So we ended up choosing the avalanche maze room. Once we got in, and got to the second room, we were told to close the small trap door behind us. We then heard the guy's voice from the other side of the trap door and he asked if we brought the walkie talkie with us. We realized we forgot it in the last room so I asked him to open the door so we can get it to which he responded "I can't". And then he just fully disappeared. We kept yelling out to him to help us and give us any hint because I started stressing out that he said he couldn't open the door. If he really couldn't open the door, not only is that a fire hazard but that also made me feel extremely unsafe, especially as a woman. He stopped responding and we just had to figure out the rest. Once we got to the next room (I was already pretty stressed and my brain was working so slow) he just started finishing the escape room for us and left the walkie talkie in the new room. He did pretty much the rest of the work for us and didn't give my boyfriend the time to figure it out and then finally we got out. He rushed us out and said he'd give us a discount if we came back. He ran out like 2 minutes after we left and got in his car and drove off. I understand that it was late but the place was still open and the booking was available online. They shouldn't stay open that late if they aren't going to actually take care of the customers. Worst $100 ever spent. It was such a waste of time and overall unsettling experience. Escape rooms should be fun but you should always feel safe and looked after by the staff, which I was not. Will not be coming back here ever and will not recommend to anyone. read more

We booked 2 of their rooms and was able to squeeze in a 3rd thanks to our remarkable host, Andrew. I believe he was a lone wolf that night and he was a rockstar at multitasking. The place was easy to find but it may be a bit tricky with the windows boarded up with posters. Street parking could be a bit tricky too. Sunday evening parking was easy. We did Avalanche first, then Area 51, then ended the night with Sherlock & the Beautiful Mind. They were all amazing and each had their own standout moments. There are some pretty neat things they had us doing. Some I've never done before. You won't find any locks and keys since these rooms are Gen3. All puzzles were straight forward and worked well in the story. They weren't just puzzles in a room. The set design was top notch! You won't see office ceilings here! So much fun! My husband, my younger brother and I completed the Area 51 room. It was very immersive and fun! We had a hard time as there weren't written hints or puzzles to solve, more a matter of just figuring out what goes with what code. This location used to be decent, but we visited recently and they were having a lot of issues. The room we booked was "broken" and the staff couldn't fix it, so they had to put us in a different room. They were frequently unavailable when we tried to communicate via the walkie-talkie; often took multiple attempts to get a reply, and communication was poor when we did get one. The staff just seemed really out of it in general. Weird vibes all around. I do not recommend. read more

I did Sherlock Holmes room here! I have been to another Maze Room location prior to this where I did "What Happened to the Garretts". I really enjoyed that room, so that gave me a great outlook for Maze Rooms as a company in its entirety. This is what drew me to choosing another Maze Room escape room to do. It was honestly a last minute buy around 8PM, and the room was at 10PM so we were lucky to get a last minute booking! Upon arriving, the lobby was really big and welcoming. The staff who was working was so energetic, passionate, and super nice to us. I am a believer that the Game Host truly curates your escape room experience. When he told the story beforehand to give context for the room, it really got us engaged and excited for what was to come. Now for the room itself: This location is new, so Sherlock is the only room that they have currently. The technical aspects of the room and puzzles were definitely ones that I havent seen before. I dont want to spoil too much, because it will give away the puzzles, but just know that its not your typical lock and key. I have done about 50+ escape rooms and I would say that this room and the concept is really new and fresh. However, there definitely were some technical difficulties with a certain puzzle, as well as some random puzzles that I felt were kind of inconsistent with the story. The ending was a bit anticlimactic for me, but I guess thats just a personal opinion. I recommend this room for those who are newer to escape rooms because it really is a bit of a challenge! You get unlimited hints and time checks as well. Again, I really love the energy of our Game Host and will continue to check out more of Maze Rooms escape rooms! read more

We did the Ghost Hunters room and it was unlike any other room before. Instead of relying on simple locks and codes like most escape rooms, this one had technology that opened secret passages and rooms in a very exciting way. 5/5 stars. We had so much fun with Game Master Kudzai that we're going back to try his favorite room "Avalanche". We did the Avalanche room today and had a great time. We really appreciated the production value as well as the puzzles and the through line of the clues. My partner and I have done a decent amount of escape rooms and we really liked this one and were still surprised at different aspects, which is always a great feeling. Our game master Jack was really great. After having done several escape rooms, I am really starting to appreciate a good game master - someone who can sense the level of the players and can guide accordingly. We have done a few rooms at Maze Rooms' other locations, and I have found their game masters to be friendly, inviting and just generally fun. While it had a very neat room gimmick, the room was very hands on and required some extra-dimensional thinking that had us scratching our deer heads For families: We-- two parents and two kids-- were able to escape in an hour (with just a few hints). There were parts that were a little intense (dark rooms, voices talking to you from "outside"), so their 8+ age recommendation is good, and use your own judgement and knowledge of your kids. read more

We have done most of their Rooms and always get excited to try anything new that they open... This time we did GHOST HUNTERS at their newer location on Robertson (this was the 2nd room we did at this location); We weren't sure what to expect from this theme and let me just tell you, this room definitely exceeded any of our expectations. -The room was so high tech, full of fun gadgets and surprises. - It was very linear and even though some of the puzzles were brain-tingling it was very fun solving them (not like one of those rooms where you get stuck and lose any hope of solving the puzzle) - and a big extra point from us is for how well decorated the room is, everything was so on theme!!! Overall we had and amazing experience! The stuff was very friendly and helpful with the clues. This review is solely based on the Sherlock Holmes themed room and not for the patient service our game master Jack afforded our party of 6 *** Having completed many escape rooms in the past (several whodunnnits and 1 prior Sherlock Holmes themed room) our original party of 4 were excited to share the experience with two of our first time escape-room friends. As pretty as the room was, the clues as many other reviewers have shared lacked continuity; it was far from your typical lock and key room. Moreover, without spoiling anything, the story didn't quite seem to make sense and had quite a lot of gore / gorey themes to it (definitely not something I'd recommend to any party with someone younger than 16 years of age). From our experiences in the past, most of the time you get a sense of when you're nearing the end. Unfortunately that was not the case with this room as our party came to an anticlimactic end. Again, given the aesthetics of the room, I would definitely be open to trying out the Area 51 room which other reviewers spoke highly of. read more

My wife and I went to "The Temple of Lost Gold Escape Room". It was our first maze room experience and it was really fun. My wife and I like casual puzzles and this was like 10-15 of them. I liked the five different rooms. I scraped my arm wiggling through one passageway but only because I didn't step up carefully - oddly, it made the experience more satisfying. I've done about 20 escape rooms in LA, many at other maze rooms locations, and the temple of the lost god was the worst experience so far. Some things that went poorly: Our game master, Carson, did not turn on the AC in the room, so we came out drenched. Within 60 seconds, we opened something that wasn't supposed to open. It took our game master so long to realize we were out of order he actually let us start over. We were doing the room competitively against another group, which we told our game master. We told him we didn't want hints unless we asked because those count against us. The only hint we used was given to us without asking. We found out after the room that there was another door that should've been closed, but was open, so we skipped an entire puzzle. Every room has a two finger rule, and this one supposedly does too, but if you follow that rule, you won't escape because you need to push/pull hard on things. This happened once for our group and twice for the other group. The room design, puzzles, etc. were all great, and it could've been a top notch room if our game master paid attention and if there weren't so many accidental openings.
