I had a tough time giving this the rating that I did, because there were a few things that were just spectacular about this place, but, unfortunately I felt there were also some major flaws that I could not overlook. I'll start with the great - we did the Captains Cove room, and from the moment you walk in, it is easy to see that this place did not cut any corners when it came to the design and layout of the room. They truly made it an immersive experience, where every small detail from the floor, to the walls, to the music and sound effects was accounted for. This was hands down the most immersive escape room experience I've seen (for whatever it's worth, I've probably done close to 15 at this point, in about 10 different cities across the country). As for the areas for improvement: 1) I felt the lights were way too dim. I completely appreciate the immersive experience as detailed above, but I think the first priority of an escape room should of course be the game itself. Here, the lights were so dim that we had a very hard time seeing some of the puzzles that were right in front of us. This, for us, took away from the experience, as the lack of ability to see does not make you "use your brain more," instead it's just kind of a hindrance to actually playing the game. 2) We were unable to tell when we actually solved a puzzle. This seems odd, but, without giving away any of the puzzles, the main issue here I felt was how the electronics were used (i.e., when you do x, y happens across the room). This concept is great, but, to us, it was very unapparent when we actually solved a puzzle (i.e., when "y" occurred). We attempted various things, then later on we noticed that a new box (for example) had opened. This for us took away the cause/effect experience of solving. So, my suggestion here would be to make the effects a little more obvious after a puzzle is solved (FYI, I don't think the beeps always went off for us, and it seemed slightly subtle anyway). 3) Probably my biggest criticism of the room (and of any escape room in general), is that the puzzles here seemed a little too illogical to solve on your own. I wont get into too much detail as to not give away the puzzles, but in general, my thought is that you shouldn't NEED any hints to solve a room. The experience should be you and your team, trying to figure out and escape the room as a group, and, if you get completely stuck, THEN you should request a hint. With this room, I truly feel it would have been almost impossible to solve the room without any hints whatsoever, mainly because the solutions to the puzzles were not logical or intuitive. I would just say to the designers of the room: of course it makes sense after you know the solution, or even while you're designing the room, but the design should be made from the perspective of a brand new person walking into the room, with no outside or prior knowledge of any aspect of the room. With that in mind, I feel maybe there should be more logical or intuitive steps to go from puzzle to puzzle to be able to solve the room on your own. read more

I've been to other escape rooms, but this experience was much different. The entry was interesting, but that is the one of the only positives for this place. We were in the "eat or be eaten" room. The puzzles were WAY too obscure and difficult. In contrast to other escape rooms, puzzles and clues were not intuitive whatsoever. Two of the puzzles involved finding a TINY screw in the big room to solve. It felt like the room was incomplete and could use a lot of work. We had to ask for clue after clue, which was frustrating. My team did find the final "code" needed to "escape" with a few minutes to spare, but we continued searching for other clues because nothing designated it as the final code. How frustrating! Perhaps other rooms in Escape in Time are more fun or have better/more intuitive clues, but this room was a HUGE disappointment. Overall, I would recommend going to a different escape room. read more

Had a blast! We took my father here for his 75th birthday and did the Gold Rush room. There were 7 of us from age 17-75 and all of us had a great time. The puzzles were complex and fun, and we were all blown away by detail of the room. Only 2 in our group had ever done an escape room before and they both said this one was much better than the other places they had visited. The staff was also great and very helpful. We will absolutely come back here to try the other rooms. Highly recommend! read more

We did the water landing one for my son's 11th birthday. It was not good for the 10, 11, & 12 year olds. The 15 & 16 liked it, but with just me and them actually working on the puzzle, it was a bit stressful. Ultimately, I would not take kids under 13 for sure, they just were too distracted with the surroundings to focus on helping. We did book again and plan to use that for a birthday party. It would definitely be a better time with more adult members! read more

Long weekend nannying for three boys (aged 15, 13, and 8). Little strange walking in, the boys were noticing that the location and general "deserted office vibe" was odd; that all changed when we walked into the candy-store entrance. They have never been so entertained or worked together so well. We had signed up online for Alien Autopsy, and were paired with another group of four, two of whom had been there before for a different room. Super helpful to have their guidance with the boys, who were (especially the little one) a little nervous going into it. Loved it so much we tried to go back the next day... with no availability, we resorted to a different company so we could go. Not nearly as good. Of the two I have tried in the Madison area, Escape In Time wins my vote for sure. We will be back! read more

The entrance to the place was so much fun, the staff was awesome and helpful when you needed it. And we needed it!! Would definitely go back, we were successful with 40 seconds left to get out!! We absolutely loved our experience. Six of us, ranging from ages 8-72 had a blast in the Water Landing room. We were all equally engaged, challenged, amazed, and truly felt like we were on an amazing little adventure. The staff was wonderful, quirky and creative and helped our experience feel exciting from start to finish. Keep up the great work in hiring and involving theatrical people in your business! I wish there were more rooms that were appropriate for age 8 & 11, as they're not quite ready to be subjected to Eat or Be Eaten or Alien Autopsy, unless there was a way to make those rooms a little less. read more

Having experienced 45 escape rooms, this place left us feeling severely disappointed. We found the interactive nature of the room to be completely nonsensical. It was far too abstract and there was no sense of flow. You obtain a lot of random objects that don't seem have a purpose. There needs to be better communication on what to do with these random props. Overall, we feel as though we wasted money and time. read more

This was a blast, our group really enjoyed the whole experience. The staff is really nice and the place is set up really creatively. We did the Eat or be Eaten room and it was exactly what I expected so our group was very pleased. It's not cheesy but it's not horribly scary. It makes you think and work together. We managed to get out with 14 minutes to spare. Our group was comprised of 8 people and it was crowded but doable. However I don't think I could see 12 people in there like they suggest. read more

This was our first experience and I would strongly recommend you either have enough people in your group or buy a private room. We were stuck with a family of four who completely took over the clues. They acted as if the 3 of us were invisible. We literally sat and watched as they took over talking between themselves and not inviting us to join in the search. Very disappointed. Too much of a risk to be stuck with people who are there to "win" rather than interact with anyone else in the room. We even made a couple of suggestions that actually lead to the next clue without any acknowledgement. Clearly, they could have cared less that we also had paid for our share and would have like to have been more involved. read more

I went with my wife and 2 kids (7 and 12). The staff were very friendly and gave us more clues than they strictly should have, which was fine, because we were struggling pretty bad. Floundering might be a better word. The puzzles weren't impossible, but we just got stuck from time to time. They said that they usually give more clues to people with kids and just the regular three clues for people who are all adults. read more

This was a super fun adventure! Even the entrance to the place is an adventure. We book this for a teen age girl Party. They surely would have given up if it wasn't for the adults that came too. But we made it out. This was a great something new to do. Everyone wants to come back to a different room. A medium sized group works well- having many brains to help figure it out was great. Can't say that Escape In Time is the most inventive escape the room establishment in the world. My friends and I escaped in a little under 35 minutes (out of an hour-long time limit) in the most challenging room. So of course, the difficulty level could be improver. Other than that, this place is legit. The theatrics of the staff are on-point. The rooms are set-up skillfully and realistically. Even the walk into the lobby is a journey. Well done, and I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a good introduction to the fun of Escape The Room. read more

I recently visited Escape in time with a small group of 4, which was plenty for the size of the room! (We did Water Landing) Upon arriving home I looked up reviews on social media and was flabbergasted that no other person had mentioned the "SMELL" when entering this establishment. Now it doesn't hit you until you're inside the reception area (which looks really cool if you can get past sitting there in the scent that assaults you until you're finally escorted into your time travel room). Whew! I was SO glad that it didn't travel back in time with us! Once you get into your room, that is impressive. Well thought out visually and it was plenty challenging and fun!! The gal who did our story line was really dramatic and I thought that was really a neat touch! I just can't get over the terrible smell as we waited... not sure if I'd go back at full price to experience that again. I'm torn. read more

Amazing experience from the moment we entered the building. Nothing in this is what seems. The staff were in character from start to finish. The rooms contained movie quality props followed an engaging story line. The game masters kept a vigilant eye on us and provided just enough of a nudge to keep us going but never giving away the whole puzzle. Fun for our entire group from age 10 to 50. read more

My husband and I are rapidly becoming escape room aficionados and he's a bit hard to please, so when we walked in and even he was impressed, I knew we were in for a treat. It's hard to say much about specific escape rooms since part of their appeal is predicated on the idea of knowing as little as possible, but I can say this. The amount of attention to detail and care taken in the construction of the room we did ("Eat or Be Eaten") was refreshing to see. There are a fair number of escape rooms out there that are just phoning it in, but these folks have got the goods. The room design, clues, and puzzles are impressive, but the staff's commitment to making the whole thing a real *experience* (even before you ever get to the room) is really noteworthy as well. A+ job, guys! (Special shout out to gamemaster Liz too: I somehow screwed up our reservation time when booking and didn't realize it until we had driven 90 minutes to their facility. Great puzzles, but needs some work or more to make it longer. We originally had 6 people for the Alien Autopsy Room. 2 people couldn't make it and there was just 4 of us. Our party thought us 4 could only do this room. The staff didn't ask us but decided to add 4 other people for our room instead of splitting them up. The other party had 2 kids and 2 adults. I didn't see on the website that extra people signed up. The max for 1 room is 8 people. I was wondering why they didn't ask if that was okay to add more people. It felt very claustrophobic because of too many people in the room. Also, wondering what would happen if our other party of 2 shown up for the escape room. Would they add the extra 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids) or would they have them wait for an hour or do they have extra Alien Autopsy Room? The adventure begins right as you walk in the door! We went with a group of five 6th Grade Girl Scouts and 2 adults and did the Captains Cove room. Perfect room that age group...as well as adults. They loved it! I loved it! We actually were successful in getting accomplishing the task (granted they may have been a bit more helpful since they were so young). There were some things that needed hints to figure out which was a little bummer, but all in all it was an Amazing Facility, Great Staff and a Fabulous Adventure! Well this was my first time at an escape room so I might be overly excited about everything here. But either way, the people here were so kind, and it looks futuristic, and the whole place was so dedicated to the concept. When you get into your room, that is when it gets real. I had the water landing room with some friends and it looked like it a plane, it sounded like a plane, and it was so just so fun. I've now participated in three rooms at this location: eat or be eaten, captain's cove, and alien autopsy. Each time I've left disappointed. Compared to other escape room establishments, each one of these rooms has had a distinct lack of flow. The objectives are far from intuitive and because of this the rooms cannot be completed without a heavy dose of hints. In two of the three rooms, a malfunction has caused a lot of wasted time and confusion (not wanting to give anything away but in one room magnetic locks were accidentally reset by flipping a switch and in another a malfunctioning lock prevented us from finding a clue). I really wanted to like this location (which is why I've come three times) but after three identical underwhelming experiences I think the pattern is clear. The staff is friendly and professional and the room themes have promise but the execution is lacking. I would not recommend this location. read more
