I ordered a small cup with toasted marshmallow and chocolate gelato. It was heavenly! I can't believe I haven't been here before. There was quite a wait, but that is expected because their food is scrumptious and many families frequent here. A family of 4/5 ahead of us ordered sundaes, so production took a while. I also enjoyed their hot chocolate. If you go on the weekend, please be patient as there may be a line. Keep up the great work and I hope EscoGelato gets a bigger commercial space. Pros: -the prices for their food and gelato is amazing and keeps my wallet happy -the gelato is delicious, as well as their pastries and avocado toast -there is non-dairy/vegan options -there is an outside patio where you can sit and eat -a vast majority of the staff are very kind and sweet Cons: -this isn't their fault, but it does get really busy and crowded with long waits -a few of the staff are pretty rude. The rudeness is mainly giving off a "mean girls" vibe of "you are too ugly to be talking to me." Which isn't the best feeling when you kinda have to talk to the staff to order? I always still tip, but having staff roll their eyes, ignore you and refuse to even look at you. Really does ruin the overall experience. read more

I cannot even begin to tell you how fantastic this place is. Their gelato is the best I have ever tasted. The texture, the taste... heavenly. The prices are not just reasonable, they are down-right cheap. You get a lot of gelato for a really low price. I could not even finish mine. The service is fantastic; the line moved quickly, and the server was so pleasant, helpful, patient (I asked for "tasters" of different flavors before I ordered) and nice. We love this place, especially in the summertime. During Crusin Grand Fridays it gets pretty busy. It's worth the wait. I love all the seasonal flavors they come up with. There is something that will satisfy everyone's craving. The sorbets are delicious. It's a family favorite in our neighborhood of Escondido. So glad we have this place all the way out here. I love how they accept apple pay. Phew, as a millennial this is very important in my book. The staff is always great. It took using a Gift Card to finally get me to EG. What a great little place for a bite to eat. The Grand panini I had was delicious. We sat outside on a sunny afternoon. Even though almost every table was occupied, it didn't feel crowded or noisy. The best entertainment was watching a entitled driver in a big, raised Ford F-150 with big tires make a 5-point U-Turn right in front of us on a 2 lane road with parking on each side. Traffic stopped going both ways until he finished. Simply Amazing. Didn't have a gelato. I'll save that for next time, but the display looked delicious and was impressive. Due to the proximity of this business I've only been to this business a handful of times over the past 6 years since I've returned to San Diego. However out of the few times I have been here I've always had good gelato. As a gelateria it meets all the requirements for what is considered high-quality gelato: - takes into consideration the seasonality of the ingredients and adjusts daily offerings accordingly. - gelato not stacked super-high (more cream in the gelato as opposed to air, indicating inferior product). - "natural" colors (the pistachio here isn't green, it's brown - a good sign that no food coloring was used). The most unique thing about this gelateria is that they offer all their gelato flavors as shakes ($6). I get this because 1) I like shakes and 2) it makes the gelato eating experience a bit cleaner, meaning I can sip on my shake as I'm driving. They also have traditional shake condiments such as hot fudge and whipped cream. So far my favorite flavor is their brown sugar pecan and I try to get this flavor if available. If this isn't possible then I settle for more traditional flavors such as pistachio, hazelnut or tiramisu. Although their main focus is gelato they also have a selection of panini, salads and bakery goods. Their salted chocolate chip cookies always hit the spot and I try to snag a cookie (or few) for later consumption along with my usual gelato shake order. read more

I have lived in Italy and t tea rolled throughout the regions tasting gelato. As I came in there was not a sense of Italian hospitality which already shifts the scene. Also, they don't do taste testing currently. Each ice cream is handmade, it's creamy and flavorful. I had the goat cheese apricot - very delicious and mild flavor. Pistachio was lacking flavor of pistachio Green matcha was awesome and flavor authentic. I gave it 3 stars because the gelato was slightly too sweet, service was so so and the portions are a bit small. I am absolutely furious!!! I will never set foot in that place again. I don't know if there's been a change in management, but I am beyond disappointed with what happened today. Escogelato is not a place my family and I frequent, but we always make an effort to support local businesses. However, the experience we had today was incredibly disheartening. I asked the young man who was serving me if they had reduced their portion sizes, and he just gave me an awkward smile without saying a word. When I approached what seemed to be a supervisor, she reacted in the same disrespectful manner!!!! No answers, no apologies, and no recognition of our dissatisfaction--ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. As we sat there enjoying our gelato, we noticed the same young man serving much larger portions to other customers multiple times. When we asked for a lid or a cup to take our cones home, they were extremely reluctant to help us. What abysmal CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Will have bakery items labeled as gluten-free, however, a fairly sharp barista shouted at me from across shop to inform me that staff neither switch gloves nor take any precautions against cross-contamination. I love their gelato. I really liked the Spicy Mayan Chocolate flavor that they had but I'm not sure if they have it all the time. This cute little place on the side street of downtown Escondido is a perfect coffee, pastries, and gelato place. So why does it remain closed until 10am? My regular place, Peet's Coffee, opens at 5:30 on weekdays, and 6am on weekends. That's why it's my usual place. I would love to drop by this place from time to time but they're going to be closed for another four hours. My wife and I went there for an early dinner on a Wednesday night. We split their turkey sandwich on GF bread. The best part of the sandwich was the caramelized onions. I would go back just for that. I've tasted other items on their menu on other occasions like their gelato, muffins, croissants, and espresso. It's all good. Their offering is very similar to the British chain, Pret a Manger. All-in-all, it's a great place for light fare. Great prices too. I just wish they opened earlier. read more

WOW! When we visit, we spend a lot of time in the Escondido/San Marcos area. We will sometimes plan our trip into San Diego to visit Pappalecco or Cafe Vero for gelato. Their selections are unique and very flavorful and creamy! We didnt know (and forgot to ask when we called about their hours) but now that we know my wife can get gluten-free bread for the scrumptious looking sandwiches, we will likely return. Their service is great, tolerating the crazy sample requests (I can understand to taste Ginger Pear or the Fig, but who doesnt know what Chocolate tastes like?) This is my "go to" spot to have lunch (and dessert!) twice/week. Yes, the gelato is amazing, but what I didn't know was how good the food is. It's absolutely delicious (*swoons*). Even on a hot day I'll order the Tomato Bisque. The avocado toast is amazing--I know it's simple ingredients, but the bread is perfection and it's just the right amount of salt and pepper. The shop is darling. There is great outdoor and indoor seating. Food comes fast. Music is great (inside) and everyone who works there is so friendly and seem like they genuinely love working there.
